  • Here we have a look at the Gigabyte BRIX Mini PC Intel Celeron J1900 Barebone computer which I have to say is a really good little PC surprisingly. I happened to have a spare 4GB of RAM and a hard drive with Windows 10 on and just thought let's see how it is and I was pleasantly surprised with how well it loads up and runs Windows 10 with multiple windows open. I have had it sort of grind to a halt but that was running lots of Flash bases pages so that could be why. You wouldn't really want to chuck out a full PC in order to replace it with one of these but other more powerful models are available so maybe look at those. For a PC connected to a TV as a media centre this version seems to be very good for that job.

I just bought this with 4GB Ram and a 500GB HDD. How has it been holding up?

It is a good little computer considering it's size but I have found mine seems to freeze although I kind of feel this is Windows fault rather than the computer. Other than that it's quick and smooth.

Did you have to buy Windows 10 for it?

It’s pretty much bare bones so had to add ram and a hard drive which thankfully I had both and the hard drive I had already had windows 10 on so yeah you would either need to buy or already had it.

I'm surprised you could transfer Windows 10 from one system to another via the hard-drive like that. I'm under the impression that you'd have to do a clean install of Windows on your new system with its particular processor and supporting hardware etc.

Hi, I just put the hard drive I had with Windows 10 on in to this and it started up fine.

Interesting... This link claims that Windows 10 won't activate when you make significant hardware changes such as changing the mother board, as you've done:

Mine is working so good I used it to replace a tower PC I had been using and it's not let me down really. I do have a problem though and that is nothing to do with the Brix but my hard drive is a bit noisy so probably going to die soon.

I don't really use it for that kind of thing but just general browsing and watching videos.
