This is how the ride was at soft opening, that was a full month from the park's grand opening. Obviously alot has changed over the years, but I wanted everyone to see how it was during the preview. I was on the first bus into the park EVER and this was one of the very first rides we saw.
I remember buying the Disney Adventures issue covering Animal Kingdom in spring of '98. I bet that would have been a great time to visit Disney World. All the stuff at Animal Kingdom would have been brand new, plus some of the classic Epcot attractions would still be intact...Horizons, Wonders of Life, the original Journey Into Imagination before it was destroyed...not to mention Alien Encounter at Magic Kingdom and Disney Animation at MGM. No Rock'n'Roller Coaster would be weird, though.

I wish they kept the Carnotaurus chase sound effects. They sound so terrifying and suspenseful! Also, why don't the Pterodactyl and the small jumping dinosaurs move anymore? This version seems so cool!
The Carno chase scene has returned to the ride. However, it still doesn't sound quite as intense (it could actually be the same I just watched a pov on youtube of the refurb).
MotyShinPhilNatu The chase has always been there, even after the 2000 update. They just have the running noise now.
The small dinosaurs stopped jumping because they broke down a lot along with the pterodactyl
So just what changed between CTX and the current ride? There's the meteor, the dinosaur leaping across the track and a dinosaur jumping, the dialogue, what else?
Well the jumping ones were replaced with a projection
although the audio isnt as good i remember riding this version and being way mnore scared....it was darker and the non-intense voice made it scarier in a way because its like you didnt know what was coming....idk it was just more suprising...
I miss "computer you worry to much"
Asteroid in 90 seconds= don't worry
Asteroid in 60 seconds = don't worry
Asteroid in 3...2...1= NOW YOU CAN WORRY!!!
I never had the chance to ride the original, as I was not old enough to ride it. I went on Dinosaur just a few weeks ago though, and am comparing it to this. Seeker talks way too much in the newer version, but it seems he doesn't talk enough in this one. I would've loved to hear the older soundtrack though.
the only thing changed was the audio of the carnotaurus chasing you. Actually the ending scene is now more climatic with the carnotaurus jumping out at you. The ride is still very very scary.
Where the carnotaurus is now was a meteor. Personally, I prefer the meteor since I like space and all that jazz.
This ride fucked me up as a kid
Back when you could hear the music during the preshow ❤
God damn I miss when the carnotaur would lunge at the Rover. When I was a kid that thing came down and scared the crap out of me. But I loved it because it was so real.
When did it lunge?
Jordie92 the one before the iguanadon used to to lunge at the car. It would basically swing its head towards the CTX rover
Everything has changed so tremendously, though it's still an incredible experience.
Wow the ride was alot faster back then and the carnotaurus scene is totally different!
Originally, Carnotaurus gets right in your face and snaps at you. Then it sounds like he's chasing you.
Now he just lumbers over and you drive away before he notices you.
Also the carnotaurus at the end doesn't light up anymore.
The audio from then was a little more humorous, but less scary.
On the Time rovers, there is still graphics that say "CTX ROVER".
Guys the only thing changed when they changed the attraction to dinosaur was adding aladar to the front replacing the tricertops and changing the name to dinosaur, the entire ride is still the same.
i saw this in july '98, it was pretty exciting back in the day, i hope i can go back again sometime soon, with my kid
I dont get how people are saying this is more scary than it is now. I think its way scarier now!
They just miss the chase scene.
And the meteor.
I think it's probably better now on balance. But I would like a bit more intensity. I always thought you were being chased by the Carnotourus anyway, but I can imagine it was even more intense and exciting in the original version. This is my favourite ride so I can't complain too much, but it is a shame when things are changed so all kids can ride them. Newsflash - not every ride should be for kids!
this video was uploaded on my birthday
I wish they wouldn't have changed it to make the ride "less scary" there are a billion non-scary rides for little kids in Disney World!! They need a couple scary rides for the adults and older kids!
wish they changed it back to the original version...
I kind of wish he caught the meteor on camera. That's the major difference.
Yeah, my friend Martha thought it was cool!
@@unwelldanny7108 I'm dying to see the original ending of this ride. I cant find video of it anywhere outside of a recreation of it with a 2D meteor.
@@pgcroonerva3256 Is this not it on this video? ruclips.net/video/HT0v7zzsN7Y/видео.html It does look a bit 2d but I just assumed it was a crap effect!
💥☄️5:08
that's right. Every theme park designer should know that every theme park needs a scary ride.
Nah. Rock n' roller coaster is scarier. And expedition everest, along with tower of terror. I only went on TOT, though. THOSE are scarier than this!
Alien Encounter. I've been on RnRC, that was scary at first waiting on line, but fun once I got in and we launched!
I like the sound effects in this one better than the new version but other than that it's the same ride
+chexmix222 dude, I was in Magic Kingdom this weekend, and when the lights went iut in the Stitch attraction tehre was a kid screaming "LET ME OUT!" with like 3 other kids screaming after him like a chain reaction. The ride wasn't meant to be for kids, it's just not built for it even though they tried to retrofit it to do so.
That's because they left in everything that made it terrifying for kids. Being trapped in the chair, darkness, etc. but they took out the adult plot and that freaky alien bro. Now it's scary for kids and boring for adults.
krystaldragon17 stitch was once alien encounter
They replaced S.I.R. (my favorite part of the attraction when I saw it on You-Tube, too young to experience it in person) with 90210, first of all why is his name the Beverly Hills area code, we're in Florida, and second of all, it's just dumb! The new pre-show is so dumb! Thank god they gutted Stitch; bring on Wreck-It Ralph!
@@yeemcgee8149 This comment is spot on. They had an absolute mare.
I was born in 2000 so I never heard of that ride before
Heeeeeeeeeeeello there! :D
I love that X3
it's much better as Dinosaur!
seeker:computer you worry too much
computer:fuck it meteor impact in 5 4 3 2 1 boom
I miss the music during the preshow. You can't hear it now a days the sound is soo low
Except you don't feel like you are being chased, there were times when the ride did make footstep sounds like the carnie is right behind you catching up. Seriously, there is too much sound from seeker going on to not really hear much of what is going on in the new one.
@Leonniket The Carnataurus isn't a real dinosaur. There WERE real dinosaurs assigned the name Carnataurus, but the one in this ride isn't an accurate representation of the species, so they gave him a huge fake Latin name.
I wish they could combine the two audios, preferably keeping most of this one
This ride is totally great, and I'm not afraid of them.
wow it used to be so much darker and scarier! Now its like you're in a cartoon =/
LOL it's called bad camera quality; a camera for filming this ride needs night vision.
does anyone remeber ellen degeneres in the ride? or was that another ride
Bamskelly Ellen's Universe of energy
That was Universe of Energy, which sadly no longer exists. Of course, Ellen's animatronic had malfunctioned a lot and was removed from the ride before it was closed for good, soon to be replaced with a Guardians of the Galaxy ride.
PowerRangersFan I was just about to comment this! But yes it’s true and my family loved the ride
yes its changed the time I went on it, it was way to scary for kids (hence the change in Alien encounter to stitch) they had kids crying and they had to lighten it up which sucks for adults I loved the scariness of it
This is the original ride? What exactly is so different about the two versions? They seem pretty much the same to me, except for Dr. Grant Seeker's monologue.
Read reply on cildeish garbanzo
Yeah I know I loved Alien encounter! I mean I like stitch just as much as the next disney fan but still that really dose suck!
i've never been on Dinosaur myself (unintentionally... i was told thar shopping was more important, bleh -.-), but i can certainly see the changes... the Carnotaurus seems to be a bit scarierin this version rather than the original. the soundtrack also can't really be heard because the scientist and computer overlap it, so you don't really get into the music too much, but all else that was changed was the name... it's not all that different... i bet you that kids STILL crap/pee their pants... i definitely would if red eyes were staring at me or something jumped up at me...
a meteorite at the end was replaced by a Carnotaurus head . Because it kept on glicthing up
sonicspeed2001 Meteor, Hatbox Ghost, the MOVING yeti animatronic....sometimes ride features just don't cooperate.
littlevampgirl23 Either way this still scares me and I just went on this ride yesterday. Still pitch black and getting waaaay too personal with a carnotaur.
Carnotaurus head is still there last time I rode it a few weeks ago.
(This is an extremely old comment I know) There was never an on-ride music track besides at the very end.
the alaramus eating champasaurus is now a lizard
No
oh god i remember going on this when i was 6 years old, ha not a smart idea on my end
@leonniket - it's not just the name that was changed. The ride and soundtrack is slightly different now.
I can't believe that ride was different is now called Disney Dinosaur.
Is there any way you can re-digitize this and reupload it so it's not so compressed? I'm sure the footage looked much better before it was squished to 2009 RUclips spec.
Also, do you have any more footage of the AK soft opening? Specifically, the Discovery River Boats with the unicorn and massacred knights?
The ride is now DINOSAUR
@chexmix222 ok and the part where the T-rex opens its mouth and the bright light happends in the jurassic park ride befor you drop!
Besides the title and sound effects, it doesn't seem much different, if different at all.
Was there a version of this ride at Disneyland in the 80's? I remember being terrified as a kid!
There wasn’t, this ride was introduced in Walt Disney World April 22, 1998. In 2000 it was renamed to Dinosaur named after the Disney animated movie
theyre completely the same i think, except for the audio, i think it changed over time because a lot of the audio from this video is different from what is played in the ride today. i dont know if it has anything to do with the name change
@qiselle its supposed to be for the movie dinosaur ya know
@TheChoujinVirus I think so.
Wait...are you talking about a different ride? There was never T-rexes...and the only thing you needed to bring back was the Igaunodon/Aladar. o_o
Was there any significant difference between this ride and Dinosaur? If so, what was it?
ITS MRS HUXTABLE!!
@BusterWebkinz Competley! I like the newer version compared to this, though...
Wow! It definitely seems different. I think the only good change was Seeker's dialogue on the ride since this one just didn't fit, but it seemed like the movements were much more intense. I wish they would change it back to Countdown to Extinction since everyone hates Dinosaur now and it would just work better.
Yeah, because a giant Dinosaur head trying to eat you isn't scary enough. (Sarcasm)
lol so calm hold on im getting you outta there
Looks so new:p lol
@mrmoss1000 well then go on the ride then, if you can that is
should the dinosaurs ben a more brighter color
@Leonniket Yes, Carnotaurus was real. But the Carnotaurus in both the movie Dinosaur and the ride Dinosaur! are an inaccurate representation of the actual species. They even gave that type of Carnotaurus its own fake Latin name, as if it were a real dinosaur; Carnotaurus brutus somthing.
this is NOT the ride I went on...Countdown to Extinction was bad ass with a storyline that you had to steal a T-rex egg and the T-rex chases you and at the end you see a big ass T-rex face opens his mouth, big bright light then you return this verson is crap
On this vid there was no Carnotaurus before the time gate after the iguanadon
Chrissy Green Arrow Collins it used to be an asteroid in stead of the carnotaraus head.
Correct!
but there was never a t rex
That's Jurassic Park at Universal.
i hate how they cahnged the name to just plain dinosaur...
What was it before?? I like "Dinosaur"
Pat Bissonnette Uhh, it says right there in the title of the video. It was called Countdown to Extenction. It's been Dinasour for a long time though, since 2000
This was 100% better than the
"Dinosaur" ride they mutated it into now. RIP "Countdown to Extinction". :'(
B H Shut the fuck up. It’s literally the same it was 20 years ago expect now it’s audio is a little different.
There's no meteor.
@@kevinbacon5492 well at the end when we would drop we would dodge an asteroid, nearly simular like the Indiana Jones adventure when we go underneath the boulder. But now that has been removed and replaced with the dino
@@kevinbacon5492 and fyi alot of stuff on the ride was different so quit being a prick
Do people bitch about everything? This ride is the exact same way it was in 1998, expect with a few audio changes. But let’s be honest, did you really notice the audio that much when you’re in this ride? Is that what ruins the whole experience? Fucking 1st world problems.
There's no meteor anymore.
hijhiysonikku Boo who, who the fuck cares?
I don't care, because EPCOT and Animal Kingdom are the only two WDW parks I haven't been to. However, Wonders of Life at EPCOT is a different story...
Give me an "Evolution" of this ride.I want to know how it changed over the years can anyone tell me?Because right now for me i'm 11 years old and this ride is way freakey.
carnio noises taken away, compies now are projected, meteor (not shown) by carno head ta da!
