Yeah honestly makes me wonder how cute animals used to manage without people checking up on them periodically for the last billion years. I really just love being forced to pay for guys like this going around making sure fewer cute animals die.
While it snaps at him, its a bird, its got used to having it happen- sort of. Internet mothers going full anthropomorphic is dumb, birds are intelligent and can show affection sure, this is just a bird that's half used to having a person show up and do weird stuff. Stop wearing slip ons with socks to the super market, don't be lazy.
It's not love and not trust. The birds simply become desensitised to humans as a potential predator and see them more as a tolerable / irresistable nuisance. The love and trust is purely on the part of the dedicated Rangers who do such a wonderful job of protecting these endangered birds!

No they're just really dumb. If the baby bird fell out of the nest the mother wouldn't even recognize it. Or try to help it back in the nest. But once it crawls back in mom finally recognizes it again.

I've tried this with the chicks of a duck I've raised. The result was the mother jumping out of the container she was in next to me and sitting on my lap while making a spirited attack on my crotch that thankfully just resulted in her getting a mouthfull of jeans. Certainly wouldn't be as benign an experience with a bird as massive as an albatross.

Yes, it was at the 3rd annual ball of the who's who's international baller. The albatross new his wife from back in their college days, that is how they met.
Beautiful sight to see, humans and animals respecting one another :) More so the sight of a human being kind a gentle enough for the bird to accept his presence and handling of her offspring.

That’s a lovely video ! I had the opportunity to visit the albatross colony in 2011 on a very blustery day. There were about 6 of these magnificent birds up in the air, just gliding without a flap of their wings. Unforgettable ❤️
Try to approach a large nest of bees or wasps, or an Alaskan grizzly, or a saltwater croc, or a Brazilian wandering spider - let me know if their ‘interaction’ with you is a trusting one.

I remember being on Deep Freeze out of Dunedin and having the Albatross follow in the air wake of the ship. They were so curious, they would come right-up within a few feet.

This is truly wonderful work that these guys are doing. It is such a shame that human's mistreatment of nature and the environment for so long, has made this necessary.

Good for the ranger the bird wasn't a tern. In such a case the ranger wouldn't have come so close and this video would never been taken.

It also helps being the largest flighted bird on earth. They probably have very few predators if any. Not really too much to fear if that’s the case.
