Claire Mercer lapis and Garnet's shapire are one of the highest ranking gems that is on steven universe with Pear and Ruby the lowest
Claire Mercer Yeah Sapphire does the same thing, but that mostly stems from acting above everything because of her future vision. Though I'm pretty sure her high ranking was fuel for the fire (or water for her ice in her case lol)
I don’t think that a gem that’s designed to terraform could be an elite.
Furyflame2 well, think of it lile this, you would only really need a single lapis, maybe two, to terraform a planet, because of this, they are most likely in low demandmaking the ones that do exist, important and rare
Furyflame2 Plus Lapis Lazulis have metaphysical properties of royalty, and the only non-elites we see wearing those are Pearls, but those are accesories in Homeworld's eyes. Aquamarine is extremely high up and she only wears a skirt to signify her status

Lapis is and always has been my fave character and I agree with everything you said!
I feel all her moments have been leading up to this, so I don't get why some people are so angry/surprised. Lapis (and Peridot) have been avoiding all her issues for so long, so it seemed inevitable for a fallout to happen sooner or later. I can only hope this can be sorted out properly and her character is given justice.
Also interesting to note that we've finally solved the mystery: it was never the barn setting itself that caused Peridot's characterisation to deteriorate, but instead her suppression of her emotions and true thoughts around Lapis. I never realised it 'till now.

I might be wrong, but I feel like even though it’s not really touched on in these later episodes, Lapis still isn’t over Malachite. She’s taken this relationship that she had developed with Peridot and is sort of treating it with a similar mindset as the only other relationship that we’ve seen her in- her mutually abusive relationship with Jasper (albeit much much more mellow)((she probably doesn’t even realize she’s doing it)).
The one line I could hear in my head over and over while watching this episode was Malachite’s: “Now you’re my prisoner, and I’m never letting you go!”
While Peridot is not a prisoner physically, I feel like Lapis still has unintentionally manipulated her emotions to the point we’re Peridot feels like she has no choice at first but to go when Lapis tells her to.
Believe me I’ve been in the same situation as her and you, Slice, and it really wasn’t a good situation for either me or the “Lapis” in question. It took several outside sources after a long while for me to realize that I wasn’t obligated to the “Lapis” in any way shape or form, no matter how much it felt I was.
This might be just a rehash or what you’ve said, but I feel like this was just a neat subtle thing the crewniverse might have done. I dunno, I just kept getting background Malachite vibes off of the entire episode.

I can agree with you full heartedly. My favorite episodes of Steven Universe are Mirror Gem and Ocean Gem because of how well they portrayed Lapis. She didn't want to harm anyone directly, especially Steven, she just acted how someone would react if they had a chance to escape from a negative environment, like a cat trying to escape the death hold of a young child.

I honestly found it sad that peridot felt like she had to walk on eggshells with lapis. Peridot needs to see that she doesn't need that in her life and I think that Lapis needs some sort of trauma therapy. Like she needs to own her faults as her own cause right now she isn't really doing that.
This episode hurt my heart so bad, but it was so good! Really excited that Lapis will have this opportunity to grow and heal. Can't wait to see what else the Crewniverse has in store for us.
I think that the Crewniverse separated Lapis and Peridot to start their development again (like a clean slate), since their characters became so inconsistent between no character development and character development to a bad person (Lapis). This is good. They can start over.
I hate to sound like that person but anyone who is a Lapidot shipper but also thinks Jasper/Lapis is abusive just basically ate their words. This shows thst Lapis still isn't ready for a healthy relationship. Especially after what happened with her and Jasper. We could see more moments like this. And trust me it could get ugly.

Rosemedellion if by abusive relationship, I hope you don't mean Jasper is the abusive one because Lapis literally said that she put out all her anger on Jasper as malachite... then Jasper admits that Lapis is a real monster because of how much she's kept Jasper under for months. So if anyone should be scarred, it's Jasper, but apparently Jasper and Lapis both liked the whole domination/abusive thing (kinky) but only Lapis knew it was wrong to like it. And yet she doesn't change her attitude or even apologize for breaking Peridots voice recorder.

I never took that perspective into consideration, that just makes Lapis's current situation all the more depressing while attempting to keep her self safe from another war she locks herself away from the few people she bothered to have a close connection with and is let with only memories. Really do hope they tackle this the next time we see her.

I'm glad someone actually acknowledged the whole picture here in that Lapis' decision was understandable and handled well in this episode but that doesn't make all her behaviour surrounding that decision and her treatment of others ok. So many people are just getting angry at her decision to leave Earth (and take the barn) or are giving her a pass for what she puts Peridot through and are constantly pitying Lapis.

Lapis and Peridot's relationship is just as unhealthy as Lapis and Jasper's was. The only difference is that Lapis is in control, so she feels content with it. The fact that Peridot is afraid of saying something to make Lapis angry is actually very similar to what happens in abusive relationships. Especially when Peridot explains how much she does to make Lapis happy; abuse victims often feel like they have to make the abuser happy and usually don't consider their own feelings.
...I mean, if we're going to get technical, Peridot's pulling away from the Crystal Gems- to the point where she's constantly hanging on Lapis' side- could be compared to when in an abusive relationship the victim pulls away from friends and family. Also, her easy forgiveness or brushing off of Lapis' actions could also be read in the same vein.
I doubt they'd follow up on this since Lapis is basically the Woobie of the group, but it would be an interesting parallel. After all, it's not unheard of for victims to later on become the abuser.
I love lapis with all my heart, and I completely agree with this video. The reason I love lapis is because I can relate to her, lapis has been in an abusive relationship, but while in it she was also abusive. You want them to yell so you can yell, when you’ve been in that situation it’s immensely hard to let go because you want it because it feels familiar, and it’s extremely hard to make new friendships and it takes forever to be in a functioning relationship again. I believe this is the best thing for lapis and peridots character development. In my experience I pushed people away and tried to run from my problems, but on my own I realized “wow this is really sucky and I can’t keep doing this” I was afraid of going to my home town in fear of seeing him again but eventually I realized it was a problem and I’m still fixing it and I want that to happen to lapis. I want her character to develop in a way such as an actual person with depression and PTSD who gets out of a mutually abusive relationship. Because when she comes back she’ll admit how she can’t keep running and needs to deal with her problems, because as someone that was in the exact same situation that’s what I did I realized “oh my god it wasn’t one sided it was mutual I need to get better for these people around me and I need to stop thinking of only myself” and to me that would be the absolute best character arch.
I agree! Although she does indeed have a lot of flaws that drive people to not liking her, I feel there is a lot of misunderstanding with Lapis Lazuli (not that I'm condoning her actions, but I can relate to them). I related with Lapis and Amethyst on an immense level with their depression and fear and I understood Lapis's behavior because of it. And although I've never been in an abusive relationship, it's not too hard to put myself in her shoes (or lack thereof). I can't hate her, even when she's a brat, because I know on a personal level the mindset she possesses, and that I think the way she thinks very often. For an alien, she's very human, on both good and bad levels. But you know what, when she returns (if she returns?), I feel like it will not only be a huge step for Lapis, but something for me myself to look up to. Her standing up against her fears after everything she's been through would move me so much.

The thing about that is, all of them recognized their mistakes and owned up to it. Well, maybe not Peridot but this isn't about her. At least Peridot has somewhat grown as a person, Lapis hasn't. At all. And what everyone else did is nothing compared to the hell Lapis put Jasper through.
And no one can tell me that they were both abusers to each other. Jasper may have brought of fusion, but she technically didn't force it. She gave Lapis, for lack of a better word, a choice. All Jasper did was try to convince her to fuse. Lapis accepted. Lapis made the decision to fuse with Jasper.
Was it because she was being a good person and helping Steven and the Crystal Gems? Hell no. If that were the case, she could have done literally ANYTHING else. They were surrounded by WATER. Lapis isn't an idiot. She knew exactly what she was doing when she agreed to fuse.
Lapis even admits to Jasper, "I liked taking everything out on you. I had to, I hated you." She confesses to being the sole abuser, not Jasper.
She didn't fuse with Jasper to save the Crystal Gems, she did it to take revenge on Jasper for not only her and Peridot as keeping her prisoner, but for the 5000 or so years she was trapped in the mirror. 5000 years of anger and bitterness went into that.
And poor Jasper. Lapis is the abuser and she's the one who keeps coming back to the abuse

Yeah, Lapis leaving was kind of like a divorce with Lapis getting the house and belongings while Peridot got their kid/dog. I love how Lapis was handled in this episode (though some sins of the father episodes did make her somewhat inconsistant), it felt like we were going back to the Lapis who REALLY didnt want to be back near homeworld and get wrapped up. The extreme of taking the barn to space did seem like something she would do in this and I worry that if Steven hadn't shown up then Peridot would have left with Lapis. If that happened would and even worse break up happen out there? If it did they'd be stuck together with that awkwardness with such a bad atmosphere.

Honestly, I feel sorry for this fandom. I find it pathetic that a fandom can put a storyboard artist to trouble because of drawing to characters together and now news from a girl that has been sent to a hospital because of how she draws the characters....sad.
If only Lapis were to come back and help fight if there was a war, but I’m mixed on if she will come back or not. We all know she cares for Steven and Peridot, maybe even the other Crystal Gems, but this also is very good for her character development. If Lapis can somehow learn that she can become a better gem when she is out in space, her character will not only change, but change for the better. Not gonna lie, this episode was heart wrenching to watch considering I LOVE Lapis and hate to see her leave. But like before, this is for the better, even if she is running away from her fears, she will get some time to recollect in space and , hopefully, come back to Earth to help fight off Home World.

I don't see why people get so mad over the shipping stuff. If someone thinks two characters should be together why is that a problem? and on the opposite end why do people get mad when other people don't agree with them about their ships? I mean, it is the creators' decision in the end. I just think it's really unnecessary to fight about. Plus they are fictional characters!

I think I can understand why the trauma Lapis has gone through would cause her to make the decision, and I have friends with PTSD as well as have it myself. I don’t agree with her decision to take the barn though if it was Peri that wanted to keep it. People with PTSD will make rash and sometimes bad choices in order to escape a situation that is triggering their distress and anxiety. It won’t make sense and will seem selfish or stupid to those that may not understand. Her favorability towards Steven, I think, has much to do with how he freed her and treated her like she was a friend and never an enemy like the others. He saved her. Not sure what to say about the incident with Navy, might be she was just so happy about being right it slipped her mind for the time being. I like Lapis and can understand and accept that is not everyone else’s opinion.
My biggest problem with Lapis Lazuli is:
Most of her backstories are forced and make no sense
I can accept the whole mirror thing by saying "that was a war everything was messed up and something like that can happen during a war" but what I find really unacceptable is:
Why was she a prisoner in "The Return" and "Jailbreak"?
when Steven tried to get her out she said: "If we do everything they say they might go easy on us."
A question arises here: If she was doing everything they say then why was she in prison?
after that Steven said:"But they're... mean!"
Well Homeworld gems being mean to Steven and the Crystal Gems is understandable but them being mean to Lapis makes no sense
Let's think about it "an elite overpowered Homeworld gem who was missing after the war for thousands of years is back she also knows where the base of the Crystal Gems is and she is very pleased and ready to serve Homeworld again"
This deserves a good welcome or at least a normal welcome

Another point in "Same Old World" she said: "after what I did to Jasper I can't go back to Homeworld" that may sound to make sense but when you think about it nobody on Homeworld knows about this so Lapis can just go back to Homeworld and fake a story about Jasper

Guys just be normal fucking fans. Enjoy the show, talk about it. Don't get all obsessed with it. I would call myself a fan, but the fandom is toxic. As a huge Lapis fan myself (I think she will turn out to be a hero later but right now she is going through a rough patch) But she did mess up. This show shows the heroes messing up again and again. I hope Lapis will come back.

I am really glad for this episode and for things that came out of that episode. We have Lapis who is flawed, which her character always was because she is not nice, and Peridot is actually kinda toxic once again which is much better than "happy go-lucky Peridot". Whole thing felt real and, in my opinion, it really showed how strong relationship between Lapis and Peridot is. I mean, come on, for Peridot to lie about her feelings and apologise so easily? She likes her a lot, as a best friend at the very least.
It might sound really weird and out of nowhere, but I wouldn't mind if Jasper would actually help getting Lapis back. I think that, when we will bring Jasper back, it would be nice to keep her with Peridot and Lapis. Plus, maybe she can give Lapis a nice back-hand slap to wake her up a bit.

That episode made me cry. I know lapis will be back. This is her true arc and im really sad about this but it needs to happen. I think this will be alot about lapis and peridot togather and their relationship, and lapis learning that she cant just keep running away and she needs to face her problems. I hope everything works out.

Does anyone get the feeling that Lapis and Peridot’s relationship in this episode is similar to the toxic relationship Lapis had with Jasper. Because if you guys remember Lapis stated in her last confrontation with Jasper that she liked taking her anger out on her when they fused. And now she is disregarding Peridot’s feeling for the sake of her own. Another sign of a relationship going down hill.

Honestly, it's characters like Lapis and Pearl, characters that /really really really/ mess up, characters that make actually significant mistakes, characters complex enough to actually show a selfish side.. those always end up being my favorites!

I agree with so much of this. Especially the point about how what Lapis is fleeing into. I think she's going to find it is as isolated and lonely as being in the mirror.

Khan The Brick I highly doubt it. For one thing, there's a pretty huge amount of planets out there. Second, they could still end up pretty far away from Lapis, even if it's magically the same planet. I'm not some amazing mathematician, but I can tell you that the odds of Stevonnie landing on the exact same planet Lapis is on, plus the same spot on the planet that she's on, are pretty low.
(Yeah I know Khan didn't specify them reuniting on said planet, but I can't see them just landing on Lapis' new home and not having that be brought up)

This is almost exactly what I theorized after I saw the episode. I had many of the same ideas that you did after Room for Ruby as well. I like how they are being more cerebral with Lapis Lazuli's story. This is a part of Steven Universe that I think is more geared towards the older audience. Well done on the video.
I am totally on the same page with you. I was so glad this episode happened the way it did. I’ve always found Lapis generally unpleasant, however humorous and valuable a character. It’s important for people to see the entire picture of how trauma works-having a fucked up past doesn’t make you bad or good, generally it just fucks you up inside, whatever you do next. And you can be a critical fan, just like you like people in person who still have their flaws. I think sometimes fans can be irresponsible with feelings arisen from cognitive dissonance and feel like they will be seen as bad or wrong for liking a character, which is totally understandable and important to talk about. However to conclude, thanks for speaking up on your thoughts on Lapis, it’s kinda comforting and I feel this episode was a total win. 👍🏻

Thank you Otaku! I've been waiting for your analysis since I watched the episode last week! I agree that this has been one of the most genuine Lapis episodes since water gem. I hold your other lapis analyses to high regards, and I think this episode could be the beginning of the true lapis redemption arc that she has always needed for the show, for herself, for peridot, and the crystal gems.
I was wishing you would have touched upon the way peridot said "i think YOU could win" in peridot's speech to Lapis. Like, it SHOOK me because it really taps into Lapis's character in regards to her shattered self-confidence following all that is happened to her and that she's done. Much of the fandom thinks Lapis's battle with Japser was a victory for her, but Lapis recognizes that it wasn't, that it was something very bad. Or perhaps she fears of doing something similar to that if she ever did choose to 'fight' again. Lapis has truly never fought for anything, always running at any chance she has available. Maybe being alone by choice will make her realize it's time to stop running, without the support of steven, peridot, and pumpkin. Can't wait for your next video!
Meh, I don't really like Lapis. Yeah she's got issues, but so does every other character. Every move she's made has been a selfish one.

I always hated Lapis ever since she broke Peridot's recorder. I'm sorry, Lapis is a selfish coward with an emotionally abusive personality. Worst part of it all she loves to play the victim. Its a pet peeve of mine because I've dealt with those kinds of people for a long time and I hate seeing it in one of my favorite shows.

Thank you for this. When you gave the trigger warning, I admit, I was kind of worried (I don't kill people over an opinion, but sometimes I don't like hearing characters get talked down on like "That character sucks and shouldn't exist."), but you put this together so well.
Also, I just realized something about recent wrongs I did myself and realized what I did wrong. I hurt my best friend by ending our friendship because I was afraid of hurting him and him hurting me. Anyways, thanks for this video. I love it. :)

When I step back from everything and look at lapis character she is just a terrified gem that suffers from trauma but with no way to recover. And when ever I see lapis and peridot they remind me of a married couple that shares a house and has a child. Anyway I agree with your points. Lapis reminds me of me when my anxiety gets bad because when that happens I go into fight or flight without being able to think correctly, and it is hard to think of others and their emotions when you are in such a state of being terrified. So it dose match up with how she should react in a logical stand point

I love Lapidot so this is sad but necessary. Lapis as much as I lover I look back and see her crippling depression and her sad life, but despite all that she is kinda selfish. She always wants to escape her hellish life and when she gets emotional she can just be a monster. In the end the Crewniverse will sort this out in some way but its hard to watch because I kind of am the Peridot a lot so I know how Peridot feels but I know how Lapis feels too.
This is perfect for Lapis to start really growing as a character and her having the barn will only help mediate that.
I was totally waiting for a video regarding lapis after this episode!! I found it totally messed up that lapis took the barn. I mean peridot lived there too. Without any thought lapis made peridot lose everything she had come to love on earth. And technically wasn't peridot living in the barn before lapis?
Jessica Jeanes Peridot was living there before Lapis, but they agreed to split the barn 50/50. Lapis was only entitled to half of the barn and half of everything inside, but she took the whole thing with her. That was just cold.😾
Tamera Farly that's what I thought! thank you for verifying! it was cold, as you said, though personally I really hope that she gets redeemed in some way. I really look forward to that. I love water personified characters and like sliceofotaku said, there was so much build up in introducing lapis that she just has to be redeemed.

Lapis is a great depiction of recovery I think. We've seen Lapis make small progress and even let some people in. But the reality of recovery is, sometimes it's two steps forward, and one step backwards. This episode was showing that Lapis isn't there yet, she's not okay and not of a sound mind. It was a huge step back, but no doubt she'll be back soon with a step forward.

I sure hope she will return soon. Her leaving Earth would be best for her character. Also I've read an article that said that her sense of urgency wasn't there because "Lapis breaks out into uncontrollable laughter… because the Crystal Gems’ loss is her self-esteem’s gain, a sign that maybe something isn’t busted beyond repair within her, that instead it’s the world that’s messed up."
