I get we're all excited about white diamond but not one person has talked about what Garnet said earlier on the beach. Greg asks Garnet if he should be worried and she says "Steven will be fine." The PSYCHIC, BLUNT, FORMER LEADER OF THE CRYSTAL GEMS, ANSWERS GREGS QUESTIONS WITH A SIMPLE STEVEN WILL BE FINE. She could have said "We'll be fine" or anything else but she specifically says "STEVEN will be fine. And she says it with a blunt and somber attitude. I don't know about you but to me this is blatant and Obvious foreshadowing.
I have a theory: All of the Crystal Gems gets poofed (maybe one will be shattered like Bismuth) and then imprisoned/bubbled(?) except for Steven and he has to rescue them with the help of Yellow and Blue diamond

I can't even explain my feelings better than Roundtable already did. White Diamond is *THE* perfect foil for Steven, the emotion expert who has talked things out and reasoned with almost every threat he's ever faced. Lapis, Centepeedal (sorry, Nephrite), Peridot, The Cluster, Bismuth, *Blue and Yellow Diamond* .
The only threats Steven hasn't been able to overcome with words yet are Jasper, Eyeball Ruby, and Aqua Marine, and they will most likely get off of Steven's case once they learn that he's essentially Pink Diamond. So, how do you create the perfect foil for someone with such emotional knowledge and experience? Well, with someone who has completely cast aside all emotion, has zero tolerance for any resistance, and will be virtually impossible to overcome with anything short of overwhelming, godlike, force. White Diamond is, *The Anti Steven*

Here's the thing, gems are basically light made solid. They don't need to breath, eat, blink, cry etc. but we see them do these things and we wonder why the fuck they bother. White is that idea made manifest. She is pure light. She is so utterly alien because she doesn't have any real organic tics like all the other gems do. Even her blinking feels unnatural.
She's the perfect gem not just in type or cut, but because she is everything you would believe a completely inorganic, immortal, nigh invulnerable race to be. She's been alive for so long (eons apparently, which google tells me is maybe a billion years so heck) that to her 6000 years probably does seem short. Pink's rebellion probably sounds like a particularly rowdy spring break.
If you ascribe to the theory that she was the first ever gem, it's like if you lived through all of world history you'd have a pretty skewed view of human wars.

They are perfect (don't @ me saying that perfection is subjective, it's just an adjective, chill) world conquering machines created to expand territory, gather, resources and uphold the Diamond Authority. Nothing else should matter beyond that.
Something is very wrong with White mentally. Many speculate her being a sociopath but I can't because Blue and Yellow Diamond said she had a bad temper and I know a few sociopaths very well and they don't really feel deep anger. She was dismissive of Steven but not happy. There a saying called "serenity before the storm". It means somebody may be very calm right before they flip out. It almost looked like she was being nice to Steven because he had just arrived but when Blue and Yellow Diamond step in all hell will break loose.
Maybe Pink is her favorite, so she wouldn't hurt her, but would take out her anger on Yellow and Blue.
yeah, she seems very messed up in her perception of what's happening around her, not to mention that her parenting is toxic on a truly space level. As omniscient and powerful as she appears, she is also stuck on a broken planet surrounded by puppets, and just wants to keep Pink in a box. I just love the contrast of her polished, luminous presence against the actual state of her homeworld and her pearl, and the retro-ish monochrome visuals.
I can't tell is she realizes what Steven is yet.
I think it’s perhaps that she is void of some emotions. She definitely has some emotions but not the emotions that a human might have. Perhaps almost like an intelligent robot that tries to have feelings and emotions but Can’t guise the void ness of emotions.
Goldenluv series I kind of like that idea. When I first saw her I got the idea that she had emotions and either would suppress all but her anger or only knew how to express anger. My other idea is that she has emotions it's just that most of them are ebbed out and dull except for when she's mad.

I've heard an interesting theory about the diamonds which states that each the diamonds represent a form of grieving:
Pink : Avoidance
Blue : Sadness
Yelllow : Anger
White : Denial
I think that White Diamonds conversation with Steven fits very well into this whole thing. The reason that she acts so distant and delusional is because she is in denial, still predending that nothing has changed and cutting off Steven as soon as he tries to tell her overwhise.

Leannan Well yes, Acceptance is left out, but I think that is because the Diamonds still have to learn to accept Pink's demise, even though I think Blue Diamond and Yellow Diamomd are getting there.
Maybe Steven is supposed to represent Acceptance. That would be an interesting extension of this theory.

That magnificent fanart of Yellow at the end reminded me: can we all just stop for a minute and give some appreciation to Yellow Diamond? Understandably, both Pink and White got a lot of attention lately, Blue got some screentime and beautiful animation (not to even mention that everyone love her emotional reaction over Steven) aaaaand Yellow... keeps being a meme.
Like, c'mon, she is an icon! I love how different Yellow and Blue are; While Blue's emotions almost rules over her (duh), Yellow tries her damn best to be rational and hide what she feels. Which results in her tossing between being angry, cynical and petulant, but truly you can see that of course, she is annoyed and nervous - but also feels guilty, is deeply relieved and she freakin' loves Pink. I love how real her personality is. And I admire her Great Grumpiness, like damn, her face expressions, gruffy tone and sarcastic comments made this episode for me

White Diamond is so terrifying because unlike every other villain in the series so far, Steven can get to their emotions and talk to them. But White diamond is quite literally emotionless and won’t let Steven say a single word. She’s the perfect contrast to everything that’s been established in the story so far.
The T-Pose is White Diamond’s way of asserting her dominance.

what surprised me the most was her outfit. it's very detailed compared to the other three diamonds, she wears sandals, lipstick and eyeshadow and her toenails look like they're varnished! (it was reminding me of 30's style, if anyone has an opinion about that)
i understand that, her face being so white and so glowy, it was necessary to make her eyes and lips more visible. but still. this was unexpected to me. maybe i've been watching too much fanart trying to foresee her look. the other diamonds almost look dull now, compared to White.

I think that was the thing the animators were going for, design-wise. She’s supposed to be the OG, all powerful, mother of all the gems. I mean she’s literally RADIANT and she’s lived long enough to think what Pink was doing was all just some little game. She’s supposed to look like the most beautiful out of all the diamonds. At least, that’s how I see it 😊
Joseph Fillon i see your point. still, those painted toenails bug me. the other diamonds wear shoes, except blue diamond whose feet are covered by the length of her dress. they don't have toenails visible. not even fingernails. actually, NOBODY ELSE IN THE SHOW, GEM OR HUMAN, HAZ ANY VISIBLE NAIL!!! lol !
so i'd say, in addition to what you said, that those details are there "also" for people to really figure the difference in size/scale between White and everyone else.... (yeah sorry, my view isn't very poetic ^^)

Anyone else notice that onion is not only the most mysteriously creepy character in the serious, he never speaks, is never really bothered/surprised by anything that happens, but is also always singled out somehow which is weird on it's own considering how little of an impact he really plays in the show as a general whole!

White's positioned as the opposite and foil of Rose, who's associated with love, sympathy, and a genuine desire to make right what she's done wrong and to try to _learn_ empathy, if nothing else. So the opposite of all of that is....
It's interesting that we appear to have the traditional four temperment assemble with the Diamonds, too. Yellow's aggressive, Blue's melancholic, Pink's cheerful and energetic, so White's likely calm and internally unstable.

I rewatched Tangled after this episode and the two of them are so similar yet such opposites. Both are dominating and intimidating figures of power but Mother Gothel wants to shield Rapunzel from everything harmful while White Diamond thinks nothing of Pink like “ Yeah she ‘ran away’ but she’ll come back when she realizes there’s no internet outside of the house”.

Yea like things are smaller to diamonds because they “live” for basically ever, but the way White diamond is talking is like a calm before the storm, like how parents talk when their child id done having a tantrum like, “are you done now.” Or how a teacher is about to speak to a student talking during class

nate sigh- I respect your opinion and I can see what you mean. However, here is what I get out of Mango Man's comment. I definitely don't want White Diamond addressing both Blue and Yellow by nicknames all the time. And judging by the clip she doesn't do that, because she addresses Steven by both Starlight and Pink. And by her being able to have pet names for Blue and Yellow to me, is like a subtle show of her dominance. `Because by using your example, the Big Boss may not call his underlings nicknames, but if he wanted to he could. And if that boss is *The* *Boss* , his underlings can't/won't dispute it. Plus her giving them nicknames just further shows her condescending and Umbragesque nature. At least that's how I feel. And like I said in order for this to work there needs to be a good balance, which I think the crew could easily do.

What's weird is that no one even bats an eye at the fact that PINK DIAMOND IS NOW STEVEN. Like, seriously! As soon pink's ship lands on homeworld, white Pearl comes towards the crystal gems and says she needs pink diamond. But without even thinking twice, she singles out Steven as pink diamond! What!? 😑
I have a theory, hear me out! What if the nickname "Starlight" is foreshadowing their origins? What if the light inside of them is like a soul and they simply "soul project." What if White diamond's light came from an actual star and she began to give light "life" from her own light! Hence the nickname for Pink "Starlight" because their sentient souls are from the light of a star/stars?!

That might explain the star shape the crystal gems use on their clothes. Pink/rose could've used it as a reference to her nickname by white.

I cant stop thinking about how someone is gonna get shattered. It's coming soon, I can tell. And I have a strong feeling it's gonna be Pearl. Earlier in this episode, Garnet said "steven....will be okay", so he'll survive. Connie isn't a gem (unless she gets curbstomped or something which would be pretty graphic so no). I don't think it'll be Garnet since she has two gems, and their on her hands which are also her weapons, so I imagine it being pretty difficult to shatter her conpletely. I feel like amethyst would be too easy...(sorry) and that leaves Pearl. I feel like she'll do something crazy to try and save steven and get herself killed in the process. Just my thoughts though.

I'm not sure if they are gonna do that... Pearl is Rebbeca's favourite character, getting rid of her would be heartbreaking.
I have a theory.
White knew about Pink being Rose Quartz, she knew she was the cause of the rebellion, but she never took it seriously, as such a long living and powerful being, she never felt threatened by it.
However, when things came to a head with Pink's supposed shattering, (that she also knew was a sham), and with Blue and Yellow obviously furious and vengeful, she took an opportunity to punish Pink, by corrupting the whole rebelion, forcing Pink who she knows has the ability to avoid the attack, to watch all the rebellion be reduced to mindless beasts. And eventually be killed along with her beloved Earth by the cluster. Of course, neither Yellow, Blue, nor the whole of gem kind knew who Rose secretly was, nor did Yellow and blue know they would cause corruption instead of destroying the gems. But White did. She planned to secretly torture and then kill Pink, squashing the rebellion in the process.
Now, of course, it seems she can no longer do that with Pink being confirmed alive all along, but if Yellow and Blue discover this, I have no doubt it will mean widespread gem civil war...

When I first watched this episode, WD saying "Did you get everything out of your system?" sounded like she meant having fun and the Solar system, not "Are you gonna behave now?", and that sounded much more terrifying.

That makes no sense at all white diamond is not that big the planet is atleast 100 times bigger then her and we can clearly see that she is not standing between the two parts of the planet to hold it together most importantly the planet is not holding together because of white but because of the gravity between the two halfs of the planet which hold them selves together. (I am sorry I just cant take anymore of these insainly stupid theories anymore).

White Diamond is terrifying and scares me for two reasons: 1 appearance alone, and 2, she if transparently abusive. White pearl is a topic of her own but her dialog with Steven comes off to me as an abusive parent not allowing their teenage or even adult daughter to say what's on their mind or bothering her because she doesn't think anything she has to say is valid. Like White believes Pink is only a temperamental child that needs to be disciplined. Even if Roses behaviors on earth were by no means all Benevolent, she had an open mind and really tried to help people and take the time and effort to understand where they were coming from. White clearly doesn't Care, she doesn't think Pink's thoughts or emotions are worth anything, just what she should be doing instead. It's horrifyingly abusive in my eye's. I have had conversations where I was never allowed to get more words in than Steven did, It hurts to be so completely undermined, like my thoughts and opinions don't matter nearly as much as the other persons. Quite frankly, after seeing this interaction, I don't blame Pink for running away to live on earth, I would want to do the same if that was her life before earth.
I don't think with the talking to pinks gem theory that it's an expected conversation, more of her refusing to acknowledge Steven's existence and lecturing the gem who cannot even respond to her. Since she has absolutely no humanity from what we know, why would she give an organic life form the time of day aside from him basically being a vessel for pinks gem to her.
Plus remember, yes Steven was the one in that telepathic world but poofed peridot and lapis weren't there either. So she could have been treating it as though pink was just that, poofed and bubbled by Steven's body.
Could Be True! and Blue did made it sound that it was so Bad that is Not Colonized! and a Bunch of Humans are Still Alive! and Considered Pink to be Punished when Is Really Not Really Punished at All! What I found really interesting is Garnet's assertion of ""Steven" will be fine." with the emphasis on Steven. That makes me think that, unlike many previous theories, White Diamond actually does indeed care for her daughters, Pink included.
If we consider White Diamond to be...similar, in some way, to our Pearl, or, maybe, a warped reflection of her, she becomes even MORE terrifying.
Imagine Pearl with infinite power, far more arrogance, greater disregard for others opinions, with all her little insecurities stripped away. Then top it all off with Pearl's possessive nature. White Diamond may indeed love her Pink Diamond, but that may, in the end, make this entire situation even worse.

White Diamond to me is terrifying, but she also makes me want to shatter her, because of what she did to that pearl.
No there is no religion or gods in steven universe the show is clearly implying that the Gems are some sort of AI robots which is why they have to be artificially made and which is why pearl said in a mini episode that gems are just holograms with mass.

TsunPeppermint I know that when gems are hurt they do retreat to their gemstone. So it must be some sort of damage to the construct of light, so yes. She also seems so robotic which is sickening. And don’t forget that this is a major issue, but no compared to THEE THIRTEEN PLANETS SHE POSSIBLY CARRIED OUT GENOCIDE!
TsunPeppermint my theory is that White is an obsessive perfectionist and broke pearl trying to make her perfect and that what happened to homeworld too. I think that's why she never left homeworld for such a long time because she was so focused on image and to make sure everything goes her way, and why she doesn't even move..

exactly! Besides I don't think Pink was an unempathic sociopath like some people seem to think. I mean her healing tears are directly tied to her feeling sorrow for the suffering of others! She made HUGE mistakes, but I think she did it because she felt like she didn't have value as a Diamond and that Blue and Yellow didn't care about her. So she didn't think her "shattering" would affect them that much and once the Diamond's attack happened, she probably thought it was too late to go back and fix things. She probably didn't think the other Diamonds would forgive her and since nothing like the corruption had happened previously, she couldn't have known that the only cure to it would be a joint effort of all the Diamonds and even if she suspected that, she wouldn't have wanted to believe it.
Like I said; what Pink did was irrefutably wrong, but by coming back Pink could start to fix things, and become more confident as herself instead of creating all these alter egos. Just think about how overjoyed Yellow and Blue would be to truly get Pink back as herself, plus Pink's court would be much readier to follow her than Steven, Jasper as a prime example.

So, my theory is that White’s gem is litterally homeworld, and that homeworl ( aka white diamond ) is a carbon star. They are basically dead stars that leave a massive diamond behind with some other elements. Her birth probably ocurred millions of years ago, and she created other gems to make herself purer, extracting other gems so she would be nothing but carbon, a pure diamond. Then, homeworld got broken, and she got broken aswell, gaining her temper. She also despises cross-fusions, as it completely fucks with her perception of purity. Then she ran different colonies because she seed gemkind as the perfect race. Orgsnics are particularly hated because organic material is a union of carbon AND other elements.
While Blue and Yellow are considered Pink's older sisters Yellow being the eldest daughter and Blue the middle child, White is more like their mother (I think?). Which would make Steven Blue and Yellow's nephew and White's grandson.

When White was asking those questions of Steven, we get a few shocking revelations.
When she said that pink “gave them a scare but it’s over now”
White revealed that from day one she suspected or flat out KNEW Pink wasn’t dead, right from the start.
But then White asked if pink “got it all out of her system”. Yeah you could tell she was angry with Pink, but there’s much more than that.
This implies that White never took the rebellion seriously. That right from the start, White saw it as just Pink playing some little childish game or some kind of phase!
White had believed that pink would “play hero”, get bored and come to her senses and then come back home to go back to being the version of a diamond everyone expected pink to be!
White had always viewed Pinks actions with earth as just an immature child playing make believe or only doing it to know the experience and then come back just to have bragging rights that “I got to do that”
And the fact that White wouldn’t even listen or bat an eye when Steven tried to talk shows that White never once cared about Pinks actions or rebellion.
To White it was that situation with a parent and child that goes...
“You’re a child, I’m the grown up, and I’m always right”
White is so set in her beliefs that she won’t listen to anyone but herself.
That also leads me to believe that White never cared about life on any planet that was not the gem home world. Or maybe not even Gem life.
It’s to early in the new season to know for sure because we only recently were introduced to White Diamond outside of gems gossiping, or talking about the past.
The point is, White KNEW Pink was alive, viewed the centuries of Pink rebelling as nothing more than a childish game, and has absolutely zero intention of ever helping or even listening to Steven.
Everyone is considering her to be the final boss, the ideas that she has mind control powers, but did anyone think of the idea that Steven is the final boss? Since we believe that she has mind control, wouldn't she control Steven himself?

I think white talking to pink is still very plausable. But other than u assumed i don't think pink was answering or something like that. I think she was just talking to the gem and completly ignoring Steven and since Pink can't answer in her current state she completly glossed over it.
I just thought about how gems can have powers, and that Sapphires, gems in low aristocracy of Homeworld (correct me if I'm wrong), have future vision powers. Watching your video made me think that, yes, White knew all about that, She is White Diamond, She is linked to Homeworld and IS Homeworld. Wouldn't it make sense for Her to also have future vision but more powerful that Sapphires' ? She remained silent because She saw why it had to happen (for what reason ?). Pink gave everyone a scare, they are all thrilled to see her back. But She saw all of it, She always knew how it would play out.
This might sound crazy but I believe white diamond is going to get shattered by a fusion of blue and yellow, with the help of Steven, Garnet,Pearl and,Amethyst. combined as one. There's going to be another civil war. And maybe white diamonds Pearl is going to set her up to her death.

I have a small speculation / theory that Pink is actually fully aware of EVERYTHING that is going on and has happen while still being part of Steven. There are some things in the show that hint at this to be the case. So White talking directly to Pink while Steven thinks she is talking to him, makes sense and take this to another level.
I loved this video! And I hope you had fun in San Diego and you practically read my mind on the first impressions of White Diamond/Pearl. I adore how you’ve analysed WD’s words and actions.
Also I was so freaked out by her calming and terrifying words, White is truly a beautifully dangerous gem. She essentially doesn’t see anything that’s happened as a huge deal, she is definitely a antagonist for the show purely for her disinterest in what Steven attempts to say. Blue said that White "hasn't left Homeworld in eons". I googled how long an eon is, just read for yourself.

In scientific terms, an eon is a BILLION years. That's 1.000.000.000 years. And Blue said she was on Homeworld for EONS not ONE eon. And who's to say White didn't already exist before she decided to stay on Homeworld forever? Saying she "hasn't left" Homeworld in eons implies that she HAS left Homeworld at some point before that. Maybe White is so goddamn ancient, she was created by the Big Bang. So if "eons" can be taken literally, then yeah, 6000 years is NOTHING to White. To her, it probably felt like just a day or two since she's lived so mindbogglingly long. Which, if you think about it, is terrifying.

what if when rose/pd used her shield in the corruption blast it convinced white that it was really pink instead of rose. Like she didn't know that pink wasnt really shattered until the shield reflected or protected herself from the blast. White was the only one to see this because blue and yellow thought everyone was shattered. (this is also why she wasnt at the trial because she knew that pink wasn't really shattered) And now that the secret is finally out and has yellow and blue convinced white knew that pink would be in her possession again on homeworld explaining her cool toned infered knowledge of pink really being alive this whole time.

I viewed the "latest little game" thing as like, a parent trying to understand her child's weird interests. Thinking the pink diamond shattering is just pinks weird way of having fun. It shows the detachment some parents can have. I think she was scared by the war, but she's trying to be friendly and kind in this scene. But she just... Totally doesn't understand why pink would actually rebel other than for a little fun. And that to me, is terrifying. She also clearly doesn't view pink as anything other than toddler, and so she brushes pink off so she can get back to work without worrying about them again.
