I just installed an Amazon FireHD 10 on my wall with Home Assistant just 6 months ago. Not sure this is better, but it looks great, and I'm sure it's much simpler.

Other Smart Home Hubs cost around $400. The Samsung smartthings station also works as a matter hub with ZigBee and thread and that is 80 dollars. The Smartthings station supports more ZigBee devices then the Echos with Hubs.

the only thing interesting about this that my echo 8 (that's small enough to sit on my desk) can't do is the multiple camera live stream - so unless its compatible with my NVR its not worth it.

Currently using the Pixel Tablet with Sharp Tools to do exactly this - not as user friendly to configure, but infinite flexibility if you're willing to put in the time. The fact that you can detach the tablet and use full Android is a nice bonus.

I would love a product like this (sucks that we use the Google ecosystem) but the one thing I see right away in the video and the marketing pictures... Why is there so much dead space on the dashboard? It's only an 8" screen to begin with, then you an inch of white space for the clock at the top, you have 2 inches on the left for the list with a lot of empty space, then you have bug buttons at the bottom with big gaps around them. Even the camera tile has a huge top border.
You won't be able to see anything in the video feeds unless your standing right on top of it. Not to mention that one of the points of having a touchscreen hub/controller is convenience. If you have to scroll through pages to find a light because the buttons are so big on 4-5 fit on the screen, it's no longer convenient.

Why not have this replace the echo 15? 8" is way too small. Hopefully echo 15 will have all the same capabilities. Or alot of owners going to be upset thier bigger 15 is obsolete with something with half the screen size.

@@bm3410 the 15 could be a control device too. I have it setup as one however it is limited. Also Its not too big if it’s in the right place. This new device is no different to an echo show 10 but does less in some areas and more in others.

Why do I need more dedicated hardware like this? I want to be able to do this from my tablet or my phone... from an app. I dont want to interface with something on the wall. What am i missing?
Maybe if i had tons of gizmos ... Amazon designed this device for its “best customer,” those with 20 or more connected smart home devices who perhaps find it all a bit too much to manage scrolling through endless device lists in the Alexa app.
Why would the less than right but extremely annoying couple wait until they got home before turning on the heat? Doesnt that defeat the purpose?
