  • Are Amazon's Echo Frames a smart buy in 2024? I've put my prescription lenses in these and I've lived with them for a long time now, but my feelings are mixed. So today, we'll be going through what I like and dislike about the Echo Frames and what I'd buy instead. Spoiler alert, the link is below to what I'd suggest most of you buy instead. :)
If you do decide to go down this route and buy the Echo Frames (which are very nice by the way), make sure you try some on and make sure you check the look on your own face with the Amazon shopping app!

I agree with everything you said, except
    1. I don't want to use buds because it's impolite to talk with people with them in and I don't want the hassle of taking them out and putting then back in.
    2. Buds are one more thing I need to think about. One device that can do 2 things is less cognitive load.
    3. I don't need to talk my phone out of my pocket for calls. I could use buds, but see 1 & 2.
    Anyway, great video! Thanks.

That's OK! The Frames are still really great. They're just a big premium over those buds so I wanted folks to be aware :)

Great detailed video with good info on the pros and cons Brian. I have the Echo buds and don't wear glasses, so I'll probably just stick with the buds and skip the glasses. Plus, with the buds, no on can hear what you are hearing (unless they have bat-like hearing). I don't like the idea of others hearing or being disturbed by what I am listening too. Thanks again!

I wonder if the addition of bone conduction speakers at the end of the temple arms would help the speakers in the middle of the temple arms sound better?

@@AutomateYourLifeYou’ll wear this Amazon tech all day long but you draw the line at Meta 😂. Because Meta was under so much scrutiny they actually got better at privacy issues and the rayban really is the better product (at least for now) The AI identification on what you are looking at is good and is getting more updates. I would get the echo frames only if you’re somewhere where even exposed cameras can be uncomfortable or you really need to control devices with amazon voice assistant.

Around 14:40 you mention having text messages read out to you. Is this a special feature of the glasses using the phone, as I don't know how to do that just using Alexa? The VIP feature sounds really good. Do the Echo Buds have these features, especially the second button to bring up Siri?

    • @AutomateYourLife
      @AutomateYourLife  3 месяца назад +1

      Hey Frank!
Yes the messages thing is specific to the glasses, at least as far as I know. I actually didn't try the buds with that...but I bet they can do it since it's the same Bluetooth connection method.

Hello, I loved the detailed video.
I have been wearing the Bose Tenor for the last 2 years with prescription lenses. Similarly, I wish some of these smart glasses had a nose pad as that is my biggest complaint. I have invested in adhesive nose pads that do help a little bit with slipping.
I am thinking about switching to these for my next pair since the Bose have been discontinued. I do like that these do not look quite as big as the Bose and the arms are not as bulky. The Bose are pretty old now though too. I do have a couple questions for you I hope you can help with. The biggest reason I use smart glasses is because I can not have ear buds in while I’m in uniform; the regulation doesn’t mention anything about glasses though lol.
    1. Have you ever used the Bose frames and if so, do they sound similar?
One thing I noticed with the Bose is that when in loud environments, like the mall; you can put the volume high and still be able to hear your music decently but it’s difficult to understand conversations like when listening to a podcast. The sound quality has decent depth on the Bose and doesn’t have that tin music sound that cheap buds sometimes have.
    2. Was the $300 price tag just for the lenses or glasses + lenses?
    3. I am not allowed to have logo showing while in uniform, are there any logos showing on the outfacing arm? I was able to fade the white Bose writing by rubbing it with a strong rubbing alcohol. Not sure if I would have to do that with this pair as well.
Thank you for the help and keep up the great work.

Thanks! Glad you liked the video and I get why you're after them!
      1. I haven't used the Bose Frames, but yeah...you can turn them up in loud environments. The depth isn't crazy in terms of quality, but I never became upset with the quality of sound.
      2. Both!
      3. No logos on the outside :) The two little ones are on the inside of the arms.

@@AutomateYourLife the only issue I find is that the v2 seems to lose connection out of nowhere a lot, and it picks up random sounds and noise as trigger words(which gets annoying). But other then that I have enjoyed them. I thought about switching to the Meta ray bans, but feel some type of way about having a camera without a security shutter on my face.

Hey Gio, I think if you're struggling with battery life the upgrade might be worth it. I can imagine that the older versions have lower battery capacity now just from age.
Otherwise, I don't think that there are that many reasons to upgrade here. They work a bit better than the previous generations, but overall the design isn't hugely different

While they do seem like a pair of Echo Buds imbedded in glasses frames, you probably don't want to have a pair of buds in your ears while driving - it's probably illegal anyway. That's at least one use case I can see the frames being preferred - car connectivity foibles aside.

Brian, thanks for your review and assessment. I can't believe Amazon is bringing this out now. Google had their Google Glass over ten years ago (2013) with more features then the Amazon glasses and could have easily had something really nice now, if there had been a real market for them. If Google morph theirs into a viable consumer product then how is it Amazon thinks they can? The buds make a lot more sense as you pointed out!!!

    • @AutomateYourLife

Yeahhhh, there's big value in the features but I feel like in this day and age just a few people are going to go for it. That's where the Echo Buds do make a lot of sense now. :)
