Great video and great home. I wonder why your doorbell was integrated to homekit via Homebridge instead of via Home Assistant (which I use for my doorbell). I’m curious if it is a bit faster to show live view in the pop up window than via Home Assistant.

Awesome dream home! However, how do you manage with so many batteries that need changing, when and the cost. I only have a few items and I had to modify these to double "A" batteries to extend their time frame.

For the NFC switchplate tags, you could set the screws vertical for switches with a tag, and tighten them to horizontal for switch plates without an NFC tag. Doesn’t help you remember what each NFC tag does, but it’s a very unobtrusive way to identify where they are.

I had the same cold water issue in my home. Game changer was having a recirculation pump installed which keeps warm water flowing through the pipes. I connected the pump to a smart plug and have automated it with Home Assistant to only run when we're home and during times we are likely to use the shower or faucets. Highly recommend for water savings 👌
Love the vids. Keep it up!!! ❤️

    • @MikeHarris1984

I did this too... I then put automations that my motion sensors in areas where I need hot water kick on the pump. and another automation where during times when we are doing dinner and need hot water at the kitchen, or normal shower times and morning times, I have it kick the pump on during those normal times we use hot water. Then all other times its off, and diffrent for mon-fri and sat-sun. I did this in smart things many years ago at my old house and then my new house is 4x the size and has 4 trunks going to set of branches, so I had to get a mix valve for each trunk, so that branch of outlets gets near instant hot water. .
I wish I could just set which trunk to turn on, i.e. pump under the sink. But those systems are PRICEY and needing 4 of them vs the single pump on the water heater. But this automation works and its awesome!!!!
Granted here in AZ, summer time, cold water is a minimun of 98° water anyways, its not too bad. But winter time, its amazing...

      @jmurray0220 9 месяцев назад

@@MikeHarris1984 I have the Bosch Hot Water Heater 9000 series that doesn't allow for adding an external recirculation pump. However, I do use their app to initiate the recirculation prior to demanding hot water. Your method would be so much easier.

Get so many ideas from the tours people record. The Everything Presence One sensor kit seems perfect for multiple projects I have in mind. The foot level lighting in the bathroom and under the bed is perfect for my father when he needs to get up in the middle of the night. He forgets to turn on the light and stumbles into the bathroom. A lot of the things I'm contemplating are focused on making things easier for my dad, who suffers from dementia. So far just using some aqara buttons to let him announce where he needs assistance.

Loved this one - I just bought a house in east Mesa and am excited to try some of the same things you’ve implemented in your house. hey, I just saw that you need to run the shower for long to get hot water. It was the same for me, because the water heater boiler was far away, so I installed a circulating pump for hot water which I trigger just 3 min or so before getting a shower and it is hot right away. Saves a lot of water in a family home:)

Awesome Video! Excited to get a home to try for myself!
I had one idea, you should create an "Owners Manual" lets say for your home and all the tech in it. This way you have great documentation if you ever need to come back to an item that you haven't looked at in awhile. This will also help remind you where you NFC tags are hidden in the light switch panels and their functionality.
This may also help you identify if there are any tech areas which could share resources for a more efficient setup, although it looks like your setup is pretty efficient already.
Love the videos, been subd for awhile now! Keep it up!

So I really liked your you vibration sensor trigger in your theater. I thought I would share a similar trigger I made a year or two ago. I wanted to create a trigger utilizing the classic 90’s clapper. I do not code, so rather than writing a program I bought the actual clapper. I plugged it into my SmartThings plug switch. I then plugged a nightlight into the clapper. The logic for the trigger was the SmartThings plug switch supplies power to the clapper. The clapper is by default in the off position. When I clap the night light will turn on. The SmartThings plug detects the voltage of the night light and runs the automation. The SmartThings plug with then toggle the power to the clapper resetting it to the off position.
The clapper has two plugs that can be controlled independently using either two claps or three. Theoretically you could have a different voltage devices that could trigger separate automation.

I am curious if you have your bill for electricity. Have you saved money? How has your bill changed from last year? If bill reduce what product contributed the most for change?

Hi Reed, I'm trying to automate my lights reacting om my the frame smart TV. I was wondering if you use your living TV for automations. If so what integration do you use and it is possible that home assistant recognizes netflix on the TV?

I just replugged in my old alexa from 2016 just so I can ask what the weather will be in the morning. This opened up a whole can of worms to connecting the roomba, garage, buying two color changing bulbs, and another trip to home depot for more strip lights. I thought about doing more smart home things but after watching this I'm overwhelmed. I don't think I need this much automation and button cell replacing in my life.

The plugin / battery motion sensors just sitting on the counters/shelves would be knocked over and blocked constantly in my house. I mount EVERYTHING to the wall or somewhere so it can't move, and preferably not in sight.

Put your bed motion sensor under the nightstand, on the wall, facing outwards. It works for me.

I recently purchased a ceiling fan that I really like and want to integrate into my smart home setup and make certain things controllable via alexa. I had purchased an RM4 pro, only to discover that the remote doesn't appear to be RF or IR, but instead Bluetooth.
Is there anything on the market that isn't my mobile phone that would allow smart control with these sorts of Bluetooth devices? Would love to get another of these but not if I can't control them somehow other than a bluetooth remote. Is there something like an RM4 pro that would do something like that?

How do you fix the camera delay? Whenever I have to access my cameras, they take a while to load the video stream and also have a delay, is it possible to solve that?

I have 2 different video recommendations for you: 1-Integrating a security alarm system with smart home devices can enhance your home's safety and convenience. Example: Ring sensors on, outside cameras on (other than ring cameras). 2- In case of an emergency, such as a power outage or attempted intrusion, it's crucial to safeguard your home effectively. In certain regions like California, where fuse boxes are outside houses, there is a risk of someone disabling your security system by tampering with the fuses. Are you using backup power? if yes, with Tesla Powerball?, if yes, how:)?

I’m really confused, how do you set up the iPad dashboard to control everything? It looks like you need to be some computer whiz to code all that. Is there a video detailing how to set up the tablet from start to finish? Also how do you setup the unified system when you don’t temporarily have WiFi and need automation like you said?

I have several smart home features. I have the Lutron shades and they are on a schedule. I installed a motion switch in the pantry. I just got the Roborock Q Revo but have to set up schedules. So my home is not as smart as yours but I am working on it. I need to get a hub like yours. Right now everything is on its own app. I’m 71 and I love tech. It’s a work in progress. 😁🤪
