It's through our flawed natures that God's grace gives those called to sainthood - all of us! - the impetus to do good...

Only God sees the heart...we all come from different places and are on different paths...none of those paths is perfect...if we dismiss the imperfect person, then there will be no one to do the work of God...dts/usa

It must be remembered that Dorothy Day ruined her family so she could practice her ministry. She allowed her passion to save the poor to overcome her commitment to her family. I guess it was her granddaughter I heard speak about ten years ago and the lady said that she was just recovering from how her mother was raised by Dorothy. All the best intensions can not wipe this away.

To Brandon Routt -- I would say that her cause for beatification took a giant step forward with Pope Francis' three references to her in his address to the US Congress. And veneration and intercession always arise before beatification.

This is Fr. James Martin, the same man who recently said on Twitter:
"Catholics need not be wary of June's #PrideMonth It’s a way for LGBT people to be proud that they are beloved children of God, they have families who love them as they are, and they have a right to be treated with "respect, compassion and sensitivity" after years of persecution." - June 2 2018 (Twitter @JamesMartinSJ)
    He also said:
"Not every #PrideMonth event will be to everyone's taste, but the underlying point-" - June 2 2018
So apparently, half-naked, three-quarters naked and all but naked men dancing on floats made in the shape of genitalia, waving and wearing accoutrements also depicting genitalia, while grinding on one another and more...is somehow a subjective expression of "LGBT people [being] proud that they are beloved children of God," and that "Catholics need not be wary of June's #PrideMonth".
As a Catholic man, in my opinion, I find this statement willfully scandalizing and see no mark of the Church in this "priest's" remarks.
June is merely one month amongst many. It seems every month is Gay Pride Month. No matter. The emphasis for the Faithful should be to pay attention to the infiltration locally and within dioceses writ large within Christendom and to educate one another with the mountain of knowledge and information the Church has accrued in 2000 years. That means understanding the socio-cultural implications as well as the philosophical and theological entailments. There are capable priests who do not endorse this man's opinion or apprehension concerning the objective amoral expression of pride vis a vis the Church Christ founded.
Remember, all we have to do is what the Lord instructs us to do one day at a time.

Why would abortion prevent a woman from leading a “useful” life, Father? Are you implying 1/3 of American women are not useful? American laywomen do more for the sick and the poor every day than you will in your whole life.

Lol. Have you taken a vow of poverty. The one third of American women who have had abortions. Need to go to confession. You seem prideful also. Dorothy Day wasn't a prideful person. You are no Dorothy Day. I will pray for your conversion. But I shall not hold my breath. God Bless and good luck. We are all human and we all sin.

What a selective presentation, which also very "modestly" anticipates the judgment of the Church. Would Fr. Martin please reveal the source for his claim that Day and O'Neill were lovers? Her biographers do not go so far, although they document her interest and time with him. In addition, Robert Coles is a psychiatrist, not a psychologist; For a different view, see the blog "Dorothy Day Another Way" and "The Catholic Worker Movement (1933-1980): A Critical Analysis," by Carol Byrne, PhD.
