I'm a moderator for the Luigi and Samus character discords and I encourage everyone to join your respective character discords as well. There's no reason to be shy or afraid because there's so many people in discords for the same reasons: getting better, learning a matchup, to hang out etc. You can even make friends and get to know high level AND top players if you're lucky. I personally have reached new heights with my characters, made tons of friends, increase my overall knowledge of the game because of the discord servers and it can be no different for you all.
In regards to playing against high level cpus, this improves you're potential in frane trapping, discoverying consistent gimps, and even combos...on approach, with many characters it is neat impossible against lvl 9, but it also forces you to mix up consistently
Mastering fundamentals is the most important part of the game. I had a chance to talk with Triple R (best Melee Kirby in the world) a while ago, and he told me that he often encounters newer players that use all sorts of crazy tech that even he doesn't use, but he still smokes them since they lack core fundamentals. There is always room to improve when it comes to fundamentals.
This was actually really helpful. I always practice against lvl 9 CPUs, because my internet is at the other end of the house and the WiiU doesn't have an Ethernet port. I've never gone online, and I find that when I play against my friends the things I use against the CPU don't work, and things that wouldn't work against the CPU work against humans. yea, like i said in the video, I'm very guilty of it as well. its best that if you can't go online to play the level 1-2 computers just to practice conversions and if you don't want to do that, you can still play the lvl 9 CPUs just for fun and don't take it seriously or try to get better from it. A year later, Ultimate's the new boom, but one habit I find the most in Mario mains is that they always try to kill with F-air of Down B. Try to avoid that.

Trying new characters is one of the things that makes me slightly better in smash 4 Im main Mario, but also main Megaman and Dedede, since I started to just try Megaman, I've learned the use of some mechanics that I would never realized with Mario (for example, the use of jabs when the oponnent is trying to recover on the floor) and the same thing happens with Dedede. Learning more characters let's you understand a bit more the mechanics in general and how it works for some characters, and with that you can get much better with your favorite main
The best way to improve your fundamentals is to play a "braindead character." Think the likes of Mario, Cloud, and Ness who don't have much technical stuff in their kit. Not having to worry about techskill very much just lets you focus on your spacing and mindgames, which are in my opinion 2 of the main parts of fundamentals, along with neutral/punish game.
Best possible way to GIT GUD is spam up air with cloud so you can piss your opponent off than keep running away trying to fill your limit. Many For Glory players do that and I love bc it's a free kill for me.
i dont know if its like this for anyone else but for glory in my area is full of people that want to either span and talk shit or win one match by a hair and leave. its rare for me to find a good player that will stick around long enough to get some good practice. that coupled with lag and the fact that you only get flat omega stages makes links and little macs a pain in the ass. so i usually just leave for glory feeling frustrated and learn nothing. plus i have found improvement from playing lvl 8 cpus. they are the closest you can get to human. not saying they will improve you a whole lot but they help you get a feel for the character with out completely annihilating you with frame perfect defensive options. zero has a better video on how to get better that has helped me come a long ways. i suggest his video.

Training against lvl9 cpu isn't bad, you just have to play them as if they are a real player and not do it all the time. It is a great way to figure out frame-trap setups and practice tech chasing.

Aura honestly, reading your opponent is just going to come with time. but one thing that will really help is to learn your characters punish options, so when you do catch a habit or have to make a read you don't mess up and know exactly what to do. find the best options for someone who rolls too much, always does jump getup, etc. and be able to do those consistently. then even an educated guess will get you the conversion. there really is no way to practice reading your opponent other than to make sure you're always thinking about your moves (but playing real people as often as possible is the best way), but if your best prepared for when you do make a read it will pay dividends. hope that helps a bit xD
Ok so I can play 30/58 characters in smash, but none of them are good at fighting pikachu unless they have one trump card like falcos reflect. I only bettle against lvl 3 CPU so your not trying to really fight them, but more like a warm up to get your input speed up. Now I just need to watch Hyuga more to see how he uses bomb fake outs.

The fundamentals of smash are basically the skills that allow you to play the game well regardless of what character you're using. Things like how to space aerials, how to move, how to read your opponent, and how to play neutral. There are lots of good videos on youtube about how to improve your fundamentals, and I suggest you give them a look if you're looking to improve in this way.
NoFall That's a really good question, and there isn't really an easy answer for it. I understand the term as understanding all the basic mechanics and rules of the game. I recommend Dabuz's or Nick Riddle's videos on the topic.
This really sucks because i'm trying to get better at the game but my training is slowed by the fact that I live in fucking Washington and we have absolutely no competitive scene up here. And the only friend I have that plays smash is a casual. He's one of those people that plays with items off and on somewhat tame stages (not necessarily legal ones) and he always lands with a Corrin D-air or counter. So exploiting his weaknesses aren't really helping me. Anther's ladder is really the only place I think I can go from here. Anyone decent want to play? My NNID is BestParzivial.

Ok I'm sorry energy pants but none of my friends play smash I don't have a locals since I'm from a small town and so the only people I can play are people on for glory or on freaking 3ds version so yeah I can't exactly do that

Cjdubs I go more in train even tho it doesn't have rage in train mode and I have only the 3DS version so the connection is why worse... But even fighting CPUs I have improved some things like bad habits and different ways to approach.
Just use what you deem more comfortable, I preffered the classic controller since Brawl even coming from being used to GC remote mostly thanks to Melee.
Well think about it like this. Maybe theres another person who is also amazing with the gamepad and you end going against them, you both cant use a gamepad so thats why its banned.

I already play and can play every Smash fighters good (not really good with Little Mac's up B move though)and I completely suck with Megaman and the only thing I need to do on these tips are Master the Fundamentals and not battle CPUs.

there's a secret tech in smash called shielding. not many players know about this but you press R and it works! now you can block attacks! wow

You can play with a Pro Controller. The only controller you shouldn't use is the Wii U Gamepad since it isn't allowed.
Just use what you deem more comfortable, I preffered the classic controller since Brawl even coming from being used to GC remote mostly thanks to Melee.

Well think about it like this. Maybe theres another person who is also amazing with the gamepad and you end going against them, you both cant use a gamepad so thats why its banned.

I already play and can play every Smash fighters good (not really good with Little Mac's up B move though)and I completely suck with Megaman and the only thing I need to do on these tips are Master the Fundamentals and not battle CPUs.
