How to get good:
Step 1: Pick Cloud
Step 2: Press Down B
Step 3: Profit
+SuGaR THANK YOU.
You my dude are one of the few intelligent people here.
+SuGaR true dat
+SuGaR Its almost as good as roll behind Fsmash/Dsmash :D
I am a cloud main and i approve this message
+Rango Not enough step 2 for them
6:36 "Every player has notes in some ways, but most people don't" ZeRo 2k16
Best Smash 4 player everyone
Everybody makes mistakes TheScrub Gaming, but most people don't.
This statement is actually logically correct as most people are not players.
+KranKDaT Filthy Casual
+KranKDaT all on the floor
You misspelled "git gud"
Misspelled it wrong ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Wouldn't that be spelling it right?
This sentence is false
+Eddie The Internet Pacifist lol false is playing in the video
"git gud"? You mean "Get Cloud"? ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Fuck i was going to make that joke lol
When RUclips recommends this to you....
RUclips exposed me the truth :(
LOOOOOOOOL Same.
Retry Aw sheeeeee
Damn, you can apply this to practically anything in life. I like that.
This and the last video opened my eyes to the way I play Sm4sh and Brawl- and I started applying what you're saying and I feel like I'm already doing better. Thanks
How to get good
Step 1: Pick Cloud
Step 0: Pay 5.99
+Alex Ramírez Hernández don't you mean
Step ZeRo
+Alex Ramírez Hernández more tax
+Alex Ramírez Hernández know both y'all tried,but y'all deserve an L
+Homura Maxwell no
step 1: don't suck
step 2: don't get hit
step 3: hit the other person
now you are the best
wow I legit never thought of that
***** words of wisdom.
In the wise words of Isai, Don't get fucking hit.
stop leaking my pro strats
I failed step 1
"A majority of people that go to tournaments dont win tournaments"
whats wrong with that
Cescorage because obviously there are more losers in a tournament that winners, because only 1 fucking person wins each
I think he means that they literally NEVER win tournaments. And this is OK.
M2K is basicly knows everything about frame data in Melee, and he got good
Mang0 knows like nothing about the game but mind fucks you like no other, and got good
PPMD is a combination of 55%M2K and 45%Mang0, and got good
Hungrybox has the patiance of a monk, and got good
Armada was just born good
Armada is the terminator tbh
Mango knows way more about smash than he leads you to think
Armada practices the shit until he gets it perfectly one hundred times
Armada study the game too
Zimmer Cooper i ment it as a joke, common Armada shows up from nowere at Genesis1 and just destroys everybody
Man, I needed a video like this at this very moment so thank you so much for giving me the inspiration that I needed to finish my last year of college.
Pretty much throw your life away. Repeatedly postpone your appointments, move out, lock your door and swallow the key, break up with your girlfriend, just literally throw your life away, and play Smash 24/7.
nice joke
or y'know, time manage
Thanks for the tip! Although I lost my job, became homeless and only have crumbs for food, I won EVO 20XX, CEO 20XX, SUPER SMASH CON 20XX and GENESIS 9000
Thanks!
+Very opinionated Gamer How did you win these high stakes tournaments and still not have the money to buy at least food?
Deku Scrublord just had a little money left over, but I have none now
But it was worth it
This video really helped me! I had been putting off going to a tournament for months because I wasn't good enough. But now I realize that going to a tournament and seeing other people's play styles is going to benefit me more than hurt me. Thx so much ZeRo!
Thanks for the vid zero! I'm actually going to a local tournament today, wish me luck guys :)
good luck
Best of luck, don't let anything stress you
With Lucas?
Good luck!
Good luck. Who do you main, just out of asking?
great video, someone actually gave the internet a well thought and thorough answer to a question asked by many! Thank you Zero :)
So then the next question is whats the best way to find events?
You can always go to SmashBoards, I believe they have a tourney locater.
search your region on Facebook. if there's not one close to you then make a new Facebook group, join the Facebook group of the nearest big city and make a Facebook event for a tour in your town
smash boards is a great starting point, the rest depends on your region/country. For example, I live in the uk and a lot of smash players like myself would use the Facebook page SmashUK to find out about locals in the country. I found out about the page from other players in my area but most people will find out about it through smash boards.
Wait there are locals in the UK? Whenever I looked on Smashboards I couldn't find any, thanks for pointing it out
+Psyanic try face book
Last two videos have been pure gold. Thank you ZeRo.
I don't think I have any locals around my area...
same
Use the magic of SmashBoards to find some events.
You can always use smash ladder to practice or you could use for glory but that isn't always the best of options.
You probably have some semi nearby. You just have know where to find them.
Thanks for the advice guys. Appreciate it.
Great advice. Thanks for mentioning the importance of frame data. At the same time, great Cloud play that I'm actually learning from.
I know I need to practice a lot and lose a lot to get better at smash, but my biggest problem is that repeated losses are so disheartening to me that they affect my gameplay. Losing badly makes me realize just how bad I am at smash, and ruins my drive to keep trying, and losing to people I know I'm better than makes me so angry at myself that I focus more on winning than actually playing, and it hinders my ability to play.
I'm stuck in that same situation as well tbh. It's a horrible cycle'=(.
Do you want to play a match against me? So one of us could feel better about it? I have a feeling we've the same skill
Losing is part of learning. Analyze your matches, and ask yourself: Why did you lose. Were your actions too easy to read? Were you playing too unsafe? Any reason you find, practice overcoming them, and your win rate will only get better.
Good way to start to change this is to change your perspective on loosing. Loosing has nothing to do with your ability as a person. If you lose, it's OK. You every time you lose you get a little better- And that''s why you should play. Because it's fun and to get better. If you play only to win, then of course you'll feel like you are left with nothing. Just relax. And I also highly recommend going to local smash stuff around your area. It's much easier to get good when you have face to face contact with people that are better than you. And you don't have to deal with rude for glory people any more, AND no lag- So you can really test how you play in a real environment-
Also, be saving your battles and replay them, as it's easier for you to analyze your play style then (unlike in the battle where you need your brain on its toes 95% of the time) and see what to change to improve.
I just can't handle losing, it makes me feel sucky. Not as a person, just at the game. When I lose too much I don't want to practice anymore and I lose all drive to get better for the time being. It's not about analyzing my losses or getting better, it's about the feeling that I don't want to try anymore when I'm losing so bad. It's a game and it's supposed to be fun, losing isn't fun.
Eddie The Internet Pacifist Sure, if you want. My Nintendo ID is WingedCherryPie.
Git gud is unironically good advice. It forces the people who genuinely want to improve to get frustrated and just start playing/practicing, and it filters out those who just want to be fed info and then not listen to any of it.
ZeRos Cloud looks freaking amazing
+ZeRo.... You're getting much better w/ Cloud each time I see you play him in a video like this.... Omg. I'm DEFINITELY striving to become an awesome player like you and Nairo... This video really ignited a "spark" in me, a spark that shows hope for me to keep playing SSB4 to no end like ever before. Thank you, ZeRo, for the best!

How too get good
Step 1: Be Saitama
Become MLG
1000 sit ups 1000 push ups 10KM running EVERY SINGLE DAY
Or "How to get good"
#1:Break your controller like how Saitama would"
Saitama always gets his ass whooped by King, tho...
+Kendall Hawkins 100 push-ups, sit-ups, squats, and 10 km run everyday. Also make sure to eat all 3 meals everyday, though just a banana for breakfast is fine. And the most important thing is to never use AC or heat.
This video isn't just a commentary on Smash, but on life.
If you want to get good at anything, you need to put in the time and the effort.
Talent only goes so far.
That Cloud is looking pretty crisp Zero.😀
As am I, keep it up Zero my man, I'd love to see that cloud more in tournament
ZeRo`s my new favorite player. Sorry M2K.
These two last videos is the most useful content i have ever found on youtube
Can you make a video on how to be hype?
Like, I put in practice and I win games, but my friends say I play lame
lets just say you are asking the wrong person
Take risks, dont play too safe, try to pull off crazy offstage combos even if it results in you losing a stock, and try to act cool as a player to make others perceive you as having a "hype" demeanor
+Don Chindle Play some techs skill play like Ranai, spike, learn a footstool combo, idk.
+Don Chindle there's nothing wrong with playing lame, but you seem like a person that likes to please the fans, so maybe choose a different character? Idk
Was looking for advice at how to get good at solving coding questions. This advice applies surprisingly well
To this day I still don't understand how videos like this get dislikes
I hear what you are saying about putting in the time, but I mean, most of us don't have the luxury of putting in 8 hours of practice in a day. I work as a Network engineer, and so I am on call a lot, and don't often have the time to just sit at home and dedicate my time.
What I have been doing is bringing my 3ds version with me and every little bit I put in 10-20 minutes in training mode practicing my advanced tech, combos, etc. I think that has helped me a lot. Have you ever considered this? Of course unless you use your 3ds as a tournament controller it won't be as effective as the wii u one, but it helps me test out stuff like punishs and ledge options, etc.
Idk, maybe this might help some people like me who have very little time at home. :)
At that point playing casually is probably the best option. I mean players like Bizarro Flame quit his job in order to play competitively and before that quit playing competitively in order to work.
Bobby Ross I
Tfw ZeRo pronounces "measure" as "meesure"
I understand as a non-native English speaker
I too understand it not hard
That actually killed me. XD
He speaks incredibe English for a person from Chile
But that's just my opeeenion
lmao xD
opeeenion
+Eddie The Internet Pacifist Yeah, but now his spanish sucks.
ZeRo, I used to write a lot of notes on every person I played, through analyzing their replays and the replays I had against them. I changed to writing notes on every character because I believed that notes on every person would only help me against that person.
You said in this video that Dabuz writes notes on players (around 6:20). How would you say those notes help, if the notes are not about characters (and their frame data) nor about yourself?
The sad thing is in my country nobody else has a Wii U, or smash on their nintendo 3ds so i cant go to any local tourneys so i cant really get better that way.
IHeartBacon where do you live
Rewatching man's old videos, been subbed since 100k
How to Git Gud
Where's the porn.
+thatseemsfair. Tentacle is best

Hey Zero, your videos have been really great lately, keep it up!
lol Ally was literally the worst person you could have put on the thumbnail. He never plays outside of tournaments lmao
>reads Ally's tweet
>comments slightly altered Ally's tweet
Nicholas Greenwell LOL I actually didnt even see his tweet until just now.
again, thanks for making another video on this kind of topic. it helps a lot
How to "Git Gud"? Don't Lose.
Simplicity itself tbh
hello, you get good by loosing, and rethinking your whole life why did the other player fucked you up, until you find out
ZeRo is being a 100% homie with these videos
you get good by fighting good players. if you fought zero everyday for a year you would improve greatly.
Great video, ZeRo. I was wondering if you knew where I might find information about shield lag frames and hit stun frames?
There are actually different viewpoints on this. Infiltration, just won EVO for SFV doesn't believe practicing is very important after a point. He practices to get timing and combos down, I think he's said he doesn't do much more than 2 hours a day. The rest of the time he thinks about match-ups and studies characters or people he will play against.
I actually have the same mindset. After a certain time you brain just stops. You don't gain anything. It is like preparing for a school-test. After some hours I can't remember anything. Infli got the perfect train session imo.
Infiltration doesn't overload his work place, he more so STUDIES for specific situations in order to combat them. Nairo back in Brawl use to get good just by covering all options of his opponent.
FOW focuses on player habits more than he does match ups last I spoke with him.
Ally just reads his opponent with having general knowledge.
Marss doesn't really play online EVER anymore and just plays with either his brother or go to events.
Like Giovanni123456789101 said, at a certain point you only require match up quirks and player habits.
+ATARi How did you remember the name of the Giovanni player guy? I can only remember that the speed of light is 299 792 458 meters per second, but what the heck are those number???
+ATARi Nvm, the name is pretty simple.
Villager lol The numbers of base 10
Really solid advice zero, I can easily relate with others arts such as music.
we're you playing false in this video?
were*
Yeah
that was my name before
Is it just me or did Zero's cloud got better?
What if we don't have any locals going on in our area? what if someone is in this position, when the closest local is 5 hours away, and they just can't go because they don't have a car?
ZeRo you should play as Kirby for one of your videos so I can study your kirby
Watch his Ironman Challenge Vs Anti
+Edgar le thug I did watch that
+gus stwert Then I got nothing
Zero man I just wanted to say, I've always had trouble with sm4sh. I just wasn't good enough but man thanks to your advice I started to train and woah. Already I notice a difference in my playing style. Thank you Zero you are the boss!!!
Why am I not winning, then? I meet all the requirements:
I play for 30 minutes a month.
My main character is Cloud.
I use the A button once per half second.
My opponents have a lower win rate than mine: 48 vs 10 (10 wins, man).
I have a pocket Cloud and secret Cloud.
I use tap jump.
I can shield! (It's the left button, right?)
I beat my brothers, who are absolute NOOBS, let me tell you, in every game I play.
So why can't I win every game in EVO? I swear this game is rigged.
A better analogy I've heard
Waiting til' you're good enough to go to a tournament is like going to a gym but making sure you're the fittest guy there before you go.
I'm joke, better make an early.
Jk, this joke isn't even funny anymore.
I'd like to go to a local tourney, but my area doesn't really have a competitive Smash (Melee or 4) scene.
Maybe, I'll have to start traveling.
Could you make a video on how to pick the right character(s) to main?
I play a few characters, but I'm not sure which ones to drop, and which ones to keep using.
to get good you need to stop being bad
"So a lot of people have been wondering..."
How to git gud.
Hey ZeRo what do you think is the most efficient way to work on a match-up you struggle with?
I'm liking all these advice videos, keep it up ZeRo.
*Keep up the pokemon music too~*
I entered an online national, so I really needed this today. I'm definitely going to study lots of different matchups and combos I can do, and I'll also study my opponents and play as many friendlies with them as I can. I'll also practice on for glory a lot. I'm going into this tournament with the mindset that no matter what position I come out in, I'll be a better player afterwards. Wish me luck everyone ❤
Take a drink every time he says practice.
Your last point is always my point. Anyone can do it. I really believe that.
"I don't want to go to tournaments till I"m good" can be said as "I don't want to go to the gym until I'm magically buff as hell".
"No one got good by not practicing." Remember that guy that went to Japan and won a tournament by practicing Bayonetta for one week.
“Just play Cloud and spam up air you are fine.”
Saludos!
I live in Atlanta, so the seen here is really good. But I have a personal rule, I won't travel until I get out of pools at a local. Is this reasonable?
what if i live in the cornfields of the midwest and there are no tournaments for miles and miles and even then only rarely?
3:40 'u can meesure' LMAO I LOVE U ZERO
Hey ZeRo. Could you make a video about Tips for proper Edge Guarding? I'm alright enough on the battlefield, but I literally have no idea what to do when the opponent is off stage. Some general and character-specific tips would be very helpful, thanks.
Hey Zero, I love the video. I really want to get into the competitive smash scene, starting with locals of course, so I was wondering where could I go about finding tournaments in my area?
So I practice hours a day, sometimes 8 hours and usually two hours during school time with an hour of match analysis so I can understand why things happen the way they do. I've been on the grind for almost a full year now and have no intention of stopping, but it's a little frustrating to sometimes see no improvement. Is there any reason why this is happening? I'm even beginning to gain frame data knowledge so I know exactly what's safe on shield and what's not. Any advice?
How do you find tournaments in your local area? I've tried looking on the smashboards but there is like 0
Zero, I would love to join a tournament to see where I stand, however I have no time as school takes up all of my time, do you have any advice to help me manage
Wow, just finished watching this and am impressed.
What kind of notes do top players make?
Like as a Bowser main I have notes on all the Koopa-hah percentages and all the Tough Guy percentages, but what are some of the more general notes I should be making?
Now first of all, just go to another video specifically for bowser.comments will most likely not help you.
Probably note the frame data on your most important moves (and like your airdodge and roll) and the moves of characters you struggle against.
Notes on how to play matchups or how to deal with things in certain situation
It's good that you know your character but you should also know what your opponent is trying to do. For example let's say you're fighting against a Mario player, they are more than likely gonna try to D-throw/U-tilt combo you. In this situation you would have to rack up damage while avoiding being grabbed (in other words don't use super laggy moves). If you were fighting an Olimar player then you'd know they are more than likely going to camp.
It's important to know what your opponent is trying to do and what you can do against it.
Only note you need: Dont't get hit.
Amen Zero for shedding some light! Now I am go get good in pokemon.
even if its maybe impossible to explain how but could u do a guide on how to adapt ?
I have a problem with auto pilot. At some random point of the match i just start throwing out moves and they have no meaning behind them, can someone help? Thx.
Practice or get my learners permit? That way I'd be able to go to local tourneys, which? Dedication or privilege so I can actually learn from experience?
Love how ZeRo's been using pokemon music lately. SUN AND MOON HYPE!
"Every player has notes, but most people don't."
20/10 would logic again 👍
Is Cloud a good secondary for Sonic's bad matchups?
I really wanna go to local events but can't find a way to,any help,I tried to just look up look up local smash 4 events in my area but nothing
Your videos are very informative, I know you've been playing for some time to become one of the best that you are but how long did it take you?
i'm younger but want to prepare to go to tournaments when i'm older, is fighting PCs going to hurt me in terms of practice?
half tha comments I've read says stuff like " to get good use cloud". besides Anti at CEO, has any other cloud won a major?
I get what you're saying about going to tournaments to keep practicing, even if you lose. But you also have to remember that tournaments cost money. A player shells out $10-20 every tournament, it doesn't sound like much but that really adds up over time. Some of us can't afford that.
Zero grew up in a poor household in Chile doing whatever he could to support his travel to tournaments, so it's not at all like he isn't sensitive to financial situations. But that is another topic entirely.
If I work a 9-to-5 job, should I bother practicing for tournaments? Or is a hour or two a day not enough to reach a decent level?
Well, I'm just gonna asked this one question. Where can I find the spreadsheets for Lucas and Greninja's matchups?
Not Eventhubs that's for sure
docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1oPi5NCZ5itHncCiNhUFpM3R_gPJNBQUYAA-VXH_U_Kc/edit#gid=0
That was from the last patch, 1.1.5, so it's not going to be entirely accurate now, but as far as I remember the only main thing that changed between patches was Bayonetta. If nothing else, this should serve as a general guideline for what you're looking for.
Your cloud has improved so much tho wow
It's good to see Zero's Cloud gettint better
When are you going to continue the tier list?
So what do you do when you put in the work, but it is not paying off?
Probably a mix between you're working the wrong way. Or you're being really unrealistic with your goals.
For example there is a huge difference between just casually playing with your friends or going on For Glory 2 hours a day, and "practicing". Putting in time doesn't equal "practicing/working"
You have to practice in ways that will help you grow. Look up all the tutorials you can find teaching you about your character. Look up all the tutorials you can find about the characters that are defeating you. Check your characters frame data. Their strengths/weaknesses. Find professional players that use your characters and study their videos. Then apply that knowledge by competing with people also taking the game seriously. When you lose, save those replays, re-watch them and pause the video EACH time you take a hit, and ask yourself why did I get hit there. How can I avoid that next time, and next time what would have been the better thing for me to do. If you do that, then you will most assuredly make progress and become a better player. And the more you do that the more dangerous of a force you become.
My other point is equally important too. For example. If you just pick the game up today and play against anyone who's been playing Smash since the 64. That person has 18 years of experience more than you do at this game. And if they just play casually 1 to 2 hours a day, that are still getting better (even if not as much as you are getting better).
Now if you put in 1 or 2 hours a day casually. You may never ever be on the same level. If you do the "real" practice and studying that I mentioned above, you might be able to catch up with them in ... some months, possibly even a year or 2.
But i's just silly to expect yourself to be able to beat People that have been playing the game forever in a few weeks. Even months really.
And if those people you are losing too are actively trying to get better properly, AND put in 3 to 4 hours a day. You have to put in the same amount of time at least if you hope to take them down- And that really comes down to whether you think winning is that important to you or not- If you really want to win, you'll practice as much as you need to to beat your opponents. If you're not willing to practice as much as they do, then don't expect for your "work to pay off"
What you should do instead is look how good you are getting compared to other people that play the game as often as you do yourself with similar history-
+ShadeTheShark FSS this some sage advice
I always want to go to events but most events take place on weekdays but I have school so I can't really go to them. Any advice?
Skip school, you don't need that shit lol
i cant physically go to tournaments, i dont make enough money to be able to go to them, i can attend one every couple of months but my job barely pays enough for me to live on, is there another viable alternative to tournaments?
Holy fuck ZeRo that cloud was looking clean as hell if you keep it at that your cloud can defenitly be a good character for you i really want to see your cloud in tourney
Hey zero what advice can you give to someone who's parents doesn't let them go to locals and limits the amount of time they can play ? Please responds it will be really helpful , Thanks
Hey Zero. What's the recommended time you should practice in smash. I go to local tournaments and do average to above average on most of them. And I practice 4 times a week and 3 hours or more a day. Should I practice way more? Any suggestions?
I'd say if you want to be as good as ZeRo, 4-5 hours a day.
Ethan Busse Okay, that makes sense. Thanks man.
ZeRo with all this Pokémon music I expect some more Pokémon material coming soon...
But how do I find tournaments near me?
Can you please make a video on how to use frame data?
ZeRo's Cloud has improved substantially.
