cannot stress enough tip #2. rolling gives you two choices. either point a or point b. that means your opponent has a 50/50 chance of punishing you for rolling once they catch on. now apply knowledge and reads and they can start predicting which way you're going to roll even more accurately. plus even if they guess wrong, then you're both away from each other at the end of the roll and set back to neutral.
This video was very helpful. The thing I mess up on is I don't think too much. I don't try to predict the other person. Thanks to you, now I'll try to focus on the opponent more.
My main is Fox, I won 7 rounds yesterday playing as him against CPU'S and won 3 rounds with an opponent, I love playing as Fox competitively, but my main for non competitive play is Yoshi.
This whole time I thought I was suppose to point the stick away from the direction I was going to DI properly... wow thank you it's going to take a while for me to get use to it

I'm glad I seen this video so I can get myself better. I want to get better with all the characters I've mentioned and master them so I'll be considered as one of the best with my friends. I will never get tired of learning
Thanks for making this video dude. It helped me out when understanding some of the core points of Smash. Plus I main Yoshi because he haves a great rushdown, shield pressure, and heavy edgeguarding game. My secondary is the Puff, because I can easily air combo up to 5-7 times in the air with the start of one pound (Jump to Pound to Jump To Up Air to Jump To Pound, etc).
This was an amazing helpful and informative guide, I recently wanted to be more competitive smash community so thanks! How do you not have more subs/views? Any tips for Lucas?
+Hue Jass Thanks! I know a little bit of Lucas things. Learn how to recover with the tether as well as PK Thunder. Those things you have to learn. PK Fire is good for spacing and even kills off the edge. Down throw can lead to combos but the best one is down throw to double jump up air at high percents for kills. also N-air is really good, it link into itself for nice strings. Also PK Thunder can be used to edge guard, I think Nakat has some videos about Ness. That's pretty much all I know
A good tip that wasn't mentioned in this video is have your own way of fighting. I personally came up with 3 different ways of fighting and use them at different times so other players can't really see how I fight.
+madspace thanks for your help I just need to practice teching and my combos more so when I get a rematch I'll atleast have a chance to win, also need to learn from what his strategies are. So again thanks for the help!!
Only video that said top 10 tips. Nice video. Learned some stuff, but as maining Robin, his slow movement speed can be hard to use more rolls to move around.
Twinsen764 Well with Robin you kinda don't have to chase down your opponent. He/She is too slow as you said lol. Use Arc Fire and Lightning when you have it to space out and punish is really good I don't know when it goes away thought, because I don't use Robin at all so I don't anything about the character. You should watch Nairo use Robin and learn from him!
for those who dont like #10, it is good to have more than one main, because if someone is effective against one main, play with a second one. i have 4 mains: Greninja for zoning, Mario for combos, Cloud for power, and Toon Link because he is short like me.
I've been a casual smash player for a long time. I typically enjoy the game with my young children who don't let me play against anything higher than CPU2 difficulty. I'm trying to get better and this video was really well done. Thanks! Also quick question, I really like Bowser Jr/Koopalings but I never see anybody who mains them. Are there any inherent risks of this character I'm unaware of?
There's not exactly a risk but people generally don't main characters like him since he's like mid to low tier, most focus on high tier characters or around high tier.
TheBoltMaster I hope you didn't call me a for glory player cause I'm not retarded like for glory players I actually go to tournaments and that still doesn't take away from the fact that ssf2 isn't a real smash game
Another useful tip for players, ((I main Little Mac)). This supports the reading/defense tip in this video as well, PATIENCE, I cannot express that enough! I hate For Glory, but you make good points. I'm no competitive player, but I also play Little Mac and put some years into playing with him. Make a silly video on him recently. Wish I had people to play with, because I can't stand online.
Smash 3DS My Main: Kirby My Others: Meta Knight, Luigi, King DeDeDe For Brawl, the only character I played as was Pikachu If you play as Kirby and get thrown up in the air, use his rock ability ( unless you're over the edge ). That way, if you're high up, you have a chance of not getting killed.

i didnt know about this tech-thing although i randomly use it sometimes, nice, now i know how to stop this hell agony of getting kicked into the air right when landing
+Ragna the Bloodedge (Mr. Breadmond) I'll reply to your other comment here since I can't reply to your original comment for some reason. You obviously didn't watch the whole video. Number 10 is defense where I say rolling is a great defensive option. BUT using it as movement across the stage is not good because good players will read your rolls if you roll too much. If you are running and dashing, you can powershield attacks, or actually put a move to prevent your opponent from hitting you. if that's how you are dying. If you played any good player you would understand that. My point is that you will NEVER improve if rolling is your main tool for movement. Use rolls for defense, not movement
SegaDisney I do, but not on FG, because everyone I see there is an approach-with-dash-attack scrub. I save replays during friendlies because most of the time I, or other people can see what I'm doing wrong and help me fix it.
There are really tough players online out there so i try my best to play 1 on 1 but i keep failing my only response is to never give up and always maintain hope. Smash bros is just a game and it's pretty a dope game😎🖒
I chose Pac because I am on the evasive side when battling other players. Especially Marth mains. So I usually use bonus fruit and fire hydrant to keep them on their A game. That's why I main Pacman
You should also have backup characters. If someone gets used to fighting 1 character like Roy then they can find out ways to punish and combo the character.
I actually didn't know about teching for a long time. I knew it was in Kid Icarus Uprising which has similar game mechanics so I tried it and it happened.
I applaud you for going in For Glory, I have enough trouble as it is in For Fun (the matter being a misnomer). Try to do a video exclusively on reading moves (I have intense difficulty of doing that, even after smashing for 10+ years). Thanks.
+Derik S. Well if you play enough you can be much better than the average For Glory player lol. And also to be able to read your opponent you need to understand what options they have in certain situations and also their habits, then make a guess on what they will do
I usually have problems with characters that can do a lot of combos like bayonetta. I know you said attack during the combo or di your way out of it, but I really can't tell the right time, leaving my wide open.
Hi, thanks good video. I have a question about control setups : in a video we can see Ally's setup for Mario and he has c_stick on smash (and jump on L, X, Y) but he seems to be throwing percfect frame upairs from the ground thoug. How is that possible ?
I like fast and/or smaller charcters who can use projectiles but also have a good physical(sorry don't know how to say it correctly) moveset, any good characters? I know mostly use sheik and toon link.
I want a somewhat flashy, cool, adaptable that has a normal speed light main. I like to combo and end with a smash attack or meteor. Also a character that can be played easy. So I mained Kirby
Wow, the first game I played in the smash franchise was Smash Melee, and I just knew about DIing as an instinct. All my brothers knew DIing as an instinct, it just seemed normal to us.
+SeanTheGamer246 2 Good for them lol. If they read your tech option then they deserve to continue their combo. It's better than not teching and getting punished for that. teching gives you a chance to escape, and that's the point
+SeanTG246 2 mix up on when u tech and don't tech. Sometimes i miss my tech on purpose and do a get up attack when least expected. But don't do that too often. You usually do wanna tech though
Hey can you go over DI in more detail? I just wana make sure I'm doing it right? Like which way to di when going straight up? And for avoiding follow ups? And when knocked horizontally put your control stick up or down right?
+_Beano _ If you get sent to horizontally hold you control stick towards the stage. If you are at high percents though hold towards the stage and down. If you get sent vertically, hold the direction where the character you got hit by is facing. So if Fox is hits you with an up smash and he is facing left, hold left. For combo DI it's different for each characters, but it's generally better to DI away to get out of combos.
So when I DI, just hold the joystick? So I don't need to press any hits and stuff? (I know this was made years ago). The way I usually try to DI is I kept panicking and holding my joystick going left and right lol. I also at sometimes make my joystick aim towards the stage but i would let go quickly and aim it again and again.
I main little mac so I don't go off stage Little mac has good combos but most of them go ground-air-ground and my controls are set to tap jump but every time I try the combo I never jump so my opponent can start a combo, and little macs way of attacking is getting behind your opponent which usually means rolling, and with excessive rolling it becomes a habit and when I play different characters I roll and roll and roll until I get hit which is always. When I'm not using little mac I play Marth, captain falcon and ganondorf but even them can't help me in for glory. A couple more things is I have no idea how to practice, I can beat level 9 CPUs with any of the 4 characters I use and the mii brawler (because 3112 up-b in the air next to a ledge is broken) But I still lose 99.99% of matches in for glory, and it doesn't help that I live in Australia which means lag, lag and more lag. All my friends that play ssb4 are literal garbage except 1 person which I still beat, and I can't figure out how to send friend requests because the error sign comes up, but since everything in my life is stupid it never shows any writing. Whenever I try to grab on anything I always miss and most of Marths and captain falcons combos are from throwing I end up losing in the first minute and it doesn't help that I can't ever get a wall jump with anyone, I get them occasionally in person but never in for glory because lag, input lag and edge guarding. So there if you're as bad as me at everything live in Australia in Victoria, please be my friend, I'm lonely af
So I got cloud recently and he is really fun I I heard he is pretty high up there on the tier list. However I'm not so great at competitive but want to get better, the main issues I'm having is edge guarding as I'm really bad at it and when I try something it usually just ends in my death and a loss as pretty much every one in for glory is like 10 times better than me. Are there any possible tips you could give me that would help out?
+Deadpan Snarker You have to have good reads if you want to play ZSS so that you will have the ability to land your grabs. Space with N-air in neutral which can lead to a grab for big damage with F-air or U-air followups in Up-B. Learn to B-reverse you paralyzer for mix ups. up-tilt is a great out of shield option is you are getting pressured. she also had kill confirms like n-air into down b so learn those as well. She also has a great recovery as long as you don't waste your first. Use down b or side b to recover and only jump if you have to Sheik is easy. Always charge up your needles when you have a chance. her only safe option in neutral is f-air so you can use that to keep stage control. she has amazing tilts so use then wisely to lead into a plethora of her combos. her moves also lead nicely into grabs at low percents F-throw is her best throw in my opinion so use that for a bouncing fish or an up air follow up. she doesn't have any kill confirms so you need to rely on reads to kill with her. Punishing landings with Up smash, bouncing fish, punishing air dodges with Vanish (Up-B), and down throw to up air are all ways she can kill, but none are guaranteed. Her recovery is also the best in the game
+Ayy Lmao For Sonic you really need to read and react to your opponent to succeed. Cancel your Side B with shield for constant pressure without having to approach. Once there is an opening use Side B or Down B Spin Dash into N-air for a nice 20%. That's Sonics main form of gaining percent. Sonic has really good aerials. B-air and F-air can be used in neutral to space. U-air to start Up-B into U-air combos, N-air can start combos and also get yourself out of combos and is a decent landing option. You can also use a jump, Up-B then D-air and it will auto cancel, which is a good mix up because opponents might think they can punish, but they need to be perfect. For Grabs. Down throw for tech chases. Up throw for combos, back and forward throw for kills. F-smash is also sonic best kill option. you can also gimp with the up b spring. Just watch my most recent Sonic video. There is game play :)
Thanks for the vid. I needed this. Level 9 cpu has been kicking my butt since I first had got this game months ago. I don't understand. On n64 smash bros, melee & even brawl I was kicking level 9's ass all over the place. On here I can barely hold my own with them even the heavy slow characters like bowser & DK are quick now
+T-800/1000 Model Well playing against level 9s isnt really that good practice. They have these frame perfect reactions than no one in the world has. It's to play against friends, and if you have a good internet connection, you can play on Anthers ladder. Even for glory is better than playing level 9 computers. Good Luck!
+EnderHydra It's ok! Rolling is good sometimes, just not as a form of moving across the stage as it gets predictable really fast. I use to roll a ton too!
I've tried to apply everything in this video when I play, but I just can't improve. I've been playing Smash since the N64, and I feel like I've gotten no better. I don't know what else to try.
I like playing up close and in their face attaching then all the time. I've been playing a lot of marth and Mario but I just can't win with them. I need help learning how to space because my play style is weak. Also, what are other good fighters for my play style? I've been thinking about Roy but I'm not sure
+SenorNutellq In my opinion, Roy isn't that good. But if you want to try him out its up to you. among the top and high tiers, the characters that fit your playstyle are Sheik, Pikachu, Fox, Mario, and Diddy Kong. In the mid tier section, you can play Captain Falcon, Pit or Dark Pit, Toon Link, and Greninja. If you want to improve i would not suggest using Low and Bottom tier characters unless you REALLY like and enjoy playing as that character. When it comes to spacing, not all characters have moves that are safe to space. but among that characters i mentioned Sheik, Pikachu, and Diddy Kong have the easiest times spacing out moves while being aggressive at the same time. Your play style isn't weak, there just might be more you need to learn and understand before reaching the next level. Hope this helps!
I can easily kill level 7 and somewhat kill level 8 CPU’s. But the moment I fight in ‘For Glory’ I either get thrown around like a rag-doll, or get matched up with a Cloud, Ryu, or _Corin._ What also sucks, is that I can’t seem to attack in the air worth a crap. I always accidentally kill myself when I try to edge guard. Another thing that sucks, is that I always suck at using the moves I want to do when I want to do them. For example, I’ll try to do Ike’s three standard attacks, which are known to be good quick moves. But, I’ll instead press the move button at the wrong time, and do his long-arse smash attack, which leaves me wide open to the inevitable grab. And finally, what sucks the most, is that I can’t seem to find my main. I’ll become really good at Kirby for a second, but then in 15 min I’ll seem to be unable to play him at all. Does anyone have any tips for me please? I want to be able to play online and not be absolutely obliterated every single time. ;~;
Tip #1 Don't play For Glory. It's a breeding ground for terrible play. Tip#2 practice makes perfect. Tip#3 spend time learning how to actually hit your opponent with your attacks. I'm not condescending--I actually mean this. Different characters all have different attack properties. It's very easy to land Captain falcon's knee after successful up airs, but landing almost every aerial with Little Mac requires attentive and precise timing, due to them possessing very low knockback/damage, lack of range, priority and he just has generally poor aerial moves to begin with. This was something I did when I first picked him up--I spent forever learning how to do more than just forward smashes. And it payed off...if you want to check out my newest video on using the character.
Can someone PLEASE explain to me how to execute Aerial combs better? I know how to short hop, but it always seems like im overshooting or not jumping high enough. Point is, I always miss in the air when it comes to combos

Same.
Kirby is my main to he has an amazing combo game and he's adorable 😀
Lyrics4U His hammer is hard to land against actually good players that know how to use shield
Master Vmac Most of his combos are mostly multiple hitting moves
Good tips! I know that a few years ago I coulda used the tip about not rolling so much lol. nice video!
Weird Blue Man Thanks man!
I suck at smash

people need to learn how to stop grab spamming
Thefinal itachi But has ZSS as their profile pic....
Does Cap. Falcon do that people just spam down B and grab it's annoying because you can't tech every landing
#Nessmainsmatter
Press and Hold ! dreams become reality sometimes.
I main bowser, and only use grabs 2 or 4 times a match. Grabs aren't that good unless you're opponent spams sheild.

If you played any good player you would understand that. My point is that you will NEVER improve if rolling is your main tool for movement. Use rolls for defense, not movement
Who here ACTUALLY saves replays of their losses?
SegaDisney I do, but not on FG, because everyone I see there is an approach-with-dash-attack scrub. I save replays during friendlies because most of the time I, or other people can see what I'm doing wrong and help me fix it.
Yeah definitely! Ah, okay. I don't save replays of my losses because the only reason I'd lose is due to poor connection. I analyze myself lol.
Only when I did some really cool combo with Kirby that ended at 125% and the combo ended in a K.O
When I get jv'd yes
Nope, but my idiot friend keeps saving replays that aren't even interesting. He saves basically every match
The Best video 10 tips ever thanks
There are really tough players online out there so i try my best to play 1 on 1 but i keep failing my only response is to never give up and always maintain hope. Smash bros is just a game and it's pretty a dope game😎🖒
followed every tip from every video and I still suck
Same just keep at it I guess :\
+Jelleh Donut Practice! and play a lot! also watch tournaments on twitch!
Jelleh Donut just try Cloud
ItsYaBoyQ just try Cloud
*cough* not everyone has money to buy DLC characters
What if someone is staying still in the middle in battlefield waiting for you to do something especially when they outrange you?
I chose Pac because I am on the evasive side when battling other players. Especially Marth mains. So I usually use bonus fruit and fire hydrant to keep them on their A game. That's why I main Pacman
You should also have backup characters.
If someone gets used to fighting 1 character like Roy then they can find out ways to punish and combo the character.
Good information. Very helpful :)
I love your video and it helped me so much thank u
I actually didn't know about teching for a long time. I knew it was in Kid Icarus Uprising which has similar game mechanics so I tried it and it happened.
I applaud you for going in For Glory, I have enough trouble as it is in For Fun (the matter being a misnomer). Try to do a video exclusively on reading moves (I have intense difficulty of doing that, even after smashing for 10+ years). Thanks.
+Derik S. Well if you play enough you can be much better than the average For Glory player lol. And also to be able to read your opponent you need to understand what options they have in certain situations and also their habits, then make a guess on what they will do
"And you'll be smashing anyone in no time."
Kill me.
THIS VIDEO MADE ME BE BETTER AT SSB4!! TYSM!!😃😃😃😃
I usually have problems with characters that can do a lot of combos like bayonetta. I know you said attack during the combo or di your way out of it, but I really can't tell the right time, leaving my wide open.
11: Main Bayonetta or Cloud :p
Bayo
And cloud. He's pretty ridiculous as well.
This video just turned 4 years old
I want a somewhat flashy, cool, adaptable that has a normal speed light main. I like to combo and end with a smash attack or meteor. Also a character that can be played easy. So I mained Kirby
Wow I've been playing the Smash franchise since I was 12 (since the 1st one) and I've never knew about DI, nor Tech.
Wow, the first game I played in the smash franchise was Smash Melee, and I just knew about DIing as an instinct.
All my brothers knew DIing as an instinct, it just seemed normal to us.
The thing is about teching on the ground, the opponent can predict the tech and continue their combos anyway.
+SeanTheGamer246 2 Good for them lol. If they read your tech option then they deserve to continue their combo. It's better than not teching and getting punished for that. teching gives you a chance to escape, and that's the point
***** True.
+SeanTG246 2 mix up on when u tech and don't tech. Sometimes i miss my tech on purpose and do a get up attack when least expected. But don't do that too often. You usually do wanna tech though
I've tried, but I can't stop rolling a little too much. Maybe I'll play some FG now and practice.
I main Ike for the dang 50-70% for each good smash.
I once made a MII with 3 max crit badges, did like 100% on a nuetral
Those are some really awesome tips, thanks. Too bad I don't have a Wii U yet....
Practicing on For Glory on 3DS is just as good, if you have it that is.
***** Yeah..... I pretty much just have a PC.
The first time my friends and I played an 8 player smash for half an hour, we couldn't feel our hands for a day.
ur awsome thx you are the best I'm a pro now i subscribed and told my friends and family to thank you so much :)
5:46 basically knocking out your opponent by keeping them from touching stage!
I main little mac so I don't go off stage
Little mac has good combos but most of them go ground-air-ground and my controls are set to tap jump but every time I try the combo I never jump so my opponent can start a combo, and little macs way of attacking is getting behind your opponent which usually means rolling, and with excessive rolling it becomes a habit and when I play different characters I roll and roll and roll until I get hit which is always. When I'm not using little mac I play Marth, captain falcon and ganondorf but even them can't help me in for glory. A couple more things is I have no idea how to practice, I can beat level 9 CPUs with any of the 4 characters I use and the mii brawler (because 3112 up-b in the air next to a ledge is broken)
But I still lose 99.99% of matches in for glory, and it doesn't help that I live in Australia which means lag, lag and more lag.
That Captain Falcon and Lucina feld 100% familiar
So I got cloud recently and he is really fun I I heard he is pretty high up there on the tier list. However I'm not so great at competitive but want to get better, the main issues I'm having is edge guarding as I'm really bad at it and when I try something it usually just ends in my death and a loss as pretty much every one in for glory is like 10 times better than me. Are there any possible tips you could give me that would help out?
Any tips for ZSS and/or Sheik? Love the vid btw
Use down b or side b to recover and only jump if you have to
Sheik is easy.
Thanks!
Is there any good way to do these with the Wiimote and nunchuck? I do have a GameCube controller, bug I'm better with the other.
Can someone explain how to tech, like is it similar to power shielding? Also what Di method (out of the usual 3) is most effective?
Any tips for Sonic and Zero suit Samus? Great guide btw.
Good Luck!
well I just realized I'm a roller... never knew it was a bad strategy I guess time to learn a new way to play!
+EnderHydra It's ok! Rolling is good sometimes, just not as a form of moving across the stage as it gets predictable really fast. I use to roll a ton too!
I can never escape the attack when I climb up a ledge and they grab me and throw me back. Or when I attack and they shield and then they grab.
+MadSpace thank you
Thanks for the tips.
I'm trying to choose between link or samus as my main.
My main Character is Link... And Kirby... And Charizard... And Yoshi...
I can easily kill level 7 and somewhat kill level 8 CPU’s. But the moment I fight in ‘For Glory’ I either get thrown around like a rag-doll, or get matched up with a Cloud, Ryu, or _Corin._
What also sucks, is that I can’t seem to attack in the air worth a crap. I always accidentally kill myself when I try to edge guard.
Another thing that sucks, is that I always suck at using the moves I want to do when I want to do them. For example, I’ll try to do Ike’s three standard attacks, which are known to be good quick moves. But, I’ll instead press the move button at the wrong time, and do his long-arse smash attack, which leaves me wide open to the inevitable grab.
And finally, what sucks the most, is that I can’t seem to find my main. I’ll become really good at Kirby for a second, but then in 15 min I’ll seem to be unable to play him at all.
Does anyone have any tips for me please? I want to be able to play online and not be absolutely obliterated every single time.
;~;
I think the first thing I need to do is memorize what button does what. I'll try to attack but then I'll just jump instead.
