This cinematic is very current ingame story heavy, so there might be a lot of stuff people who doesn't play the game wouldn't understand. Orc is Varok Saurfang, warrior veteran. The flashback with his son was during the Wrath of the Lich King expansion where his son was killed and turned into a death knight, to be killed again by the players (as a raid boss). The flashback showed Varok taking care of his son in the aftermath. Storywise right now, Sylvanas, the Warchief, chose to burn the world tree Teldrassil, also home of the night elves. When she did it, she literally killed thousands of innocent people, for no specific reason. Varok, who's very honorble, as seen in the cinematic, gets very angry, especially since the Alliance (the Horde's enemy/also the other way) will come for them and get vengence. In the past, Varok took part in the slaughtering of dreaneis (a race of people) in their homeworld of Dreanor, so he fully understand genociding. So yeah just the short story of all of this XD
She burned millions alive in that tree. In game- on the alliance side-, you have to rescue as many as you can before you pass out from the smoke and are evacuated yourself.
There is a Warcraft movie and it's pretty good as far as game movies go... But I so wish Blizzard would make their animated movie like this :-D Imagine this cinematic just as a 2 hour movie :-D
the movie is not from blizzard itself they just cooperated but blizzard has no visual things done in the movie. explains why the nightelf and garona were humans in costumes
As others have said, it would take a long time and cost a heck of a lot to make. Likely $175-200m+. Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within cost $137m to make back in 2001 and that movie was a huge failure. I can't imagine Blizzard ever taking such a big risk. It's a nice thought, though.
Industrial Light & Magic (same company that does the CG for marvel movies) did the CG for the Warcraft movie. However they used motion capture. Blizzard however make their cinematics from the ground up like pixar. Which is why it takes soooooo long to make just a 4 minute clip.
No, Blizzard co-produced the movie, but special effects in the movie were handled by industrial light and magic, world of warcraft cinematics are made inhouse at blizzard by a cinematics department they have for all their cinematics. Also, i dont know if you saw them, but there are a couple of Battle for Azeroth cinematics, one for Jaina, other for Sylvannas. What follows this is the cinematic trailer for BfA, what happened just before this is the Sylvannas one.
Basicly the Horde leader (Dark Elf sort of) burnt down the Night Elfs home which was a giant tree (bit like Avatar) and Saurfang is a Horde general who believes that was wrong and does not like where the horde is headed. He was headed out to the enemy of the horde which is the alliance to commit suicide by fighting as many alliance as he could or at least its what we think. The alliance which the Night elfs are a part of have now retailated and are attacking one of the hordes cities and much more . This is the beggining of the next wow expansion which starts on the 14th of August. I have plated this for around 12 years and the cinematics are among the best of any game has to offer today. :)
Dat Part that’s a very long answer. Basically Elves evolved from Trolls, and eventually there was a split and Night Elves and High Elves became separate races. Come an undead invasion that nearly wiped out the High Elves, many of which were raised as undead themselves. Sylvanas (the current Horde leader which the OP refers to) was one of those Elves. Dark Elves aren’t really a race or even a thing (unless you count the newest branch of Elves [Void Elves] which aren’t really related to this), it’s just an easy way to tell you she is undead. The irony is “her people” are mostly undead humans.
All of that is true. If you wanted a detailed history of Elves and trolls we will be here all night. So much lore from all the World of Warcraft Races. :)
Rene Knight beat me to it but I repeat it anyways. Industrial Light and Magic was officially the studio that worked on the Warcraft movie’s effects. Bill Westenhofer (who won oscars for Life of Pi and The Golden Compass) was the Visual Effects Supervisor for the movie.
Here are all the main Cinematics you need to react to! Wrath of the Lich King ruclips.net/video/BCr7y4SLhck/видео.html Cataclysm ruclips.net/video/Wq4Y7ztznKc/видео.html Mists of Pandaria ruclips.net/video/wvYXoyxLv64/видео.html Warlords of Draenor ruclips.net/video/TLzhlsEFcVQ/видео.html Legion ruclips.net/video/eYNCCu0y-Is/видео.html
I think the Warcraft movie is one of the best game adaptions, even though it is technically more of a book adaption. The problem with the movie was that the studio intervened and forced the Director to cut like 40 minutes out of the movie. It is a real shame it did not do well in the states as eventually we would perhaps have an adaption of The Lord of the Clans with Thrall or perhaps even better, the story of Arthas on the big screen. It really saddens me that so many people listen to these "professional" critics, as I remember reading some of the reviews for the movie and I feel like some of them hated it for the sake of hating it. Some of those reviews seemed like they did not even watch the movie.
Edmo China was responsible for like 50% of the gross income. I don't think the studio publishing it knows, that the further in the story we get, the more people will watch it. #Arthasonthebigscreenplease
loved this cinematic, also love that this one is basically a prequel to the battle for azeroth cinematic that you reacted to before and both saurfang and the troll boy are in the other one as well
Legendary pictures still has the movie rights for Warcraft. Not sure if Blizzard is really interested in making their own movies. Activision-Blizzard does has an animation studio. They currently make a Skylanders TV series and possible Call of Duty film series.
Blizzard did not work on the CGI of the movie because they were already working on the WoW stuff and Overwatch. A detail you might be impress/ not surprise, for a 6 minutes cinematic like that it’s a more than a year of work for the blizzard cinematic team. This team is nuts, even pixar or dreamwork do not reach that level of details. It’s like 2 seconds but from a 3d animator stand point to most impressive in that cinematic is when Saurfang grab the ashes, the level of detail is ridiculous.
They are releasing weekly animated series called Warbringers until the new expansion launches. The Sylvanas one explains why Saurfang is being like this.
The movie was Legendary Pictures with ILM doing VFX (same team that does the Hulk for the Marvel stuff), and Weta Workshop doing props and practical SFX. Concept art and some supervision from Blizzard, but they didn't work directly on the CGI. The VFX are excellent and the orcs are the best parts of the movie, but the live action human stuff felt kind of phoned in. It was a decent epic fantasy action movie, not great but not bad. Maybe aimed too much at fans, probably a bit confusing if you don't know the games. Personally I'd give it a solid B.
I am primarily alliance, ever since the original game, but I revere and respect saurfang, he is the most honorable and finest of the orc warriors that the horde has to offer, may he live forever in the hearts and souls of azeroth, their attention to detail has always been fantastic, kudos to blizzard on a job well done.
Blizzard did the warcraft movie in combination with Lionsgate I believe it was. And that was quite a few years ago. So they've upped their game even since that.
The scene in the snowy land: Saurfang's son lead a joint attack on the Lich King, but was slain in battle, and soul absorbed. He was reanimated by the Lich King to serve as a death knight, and was in fact the 4th boss of the Icecrown Citadel raid. After defeating him, Saurfang shows up to recover the body of his son.
This is great! People can't expect you to know whats going on story wide because you don't play but the fact you appreciate the work and art that goes into it is awesome! If you liked this you should watch ALL the World of Warcraft expansion opening cinematics!! They are all amazingly high quality and its awesome seeing the quality improve over the years and you can just see how Blizzard was ahead of the entire industry from the start. Much love.
No Blizz did not make the Warcraft movie in house , but they should have. Warcraft was directed by Duncan Jones - David Bowie's son - while I love the movie and the job he did, I still wish Blizz would make their our fully in house CGI Warcraft movie as epic as these cinematics.
PandoraNYC1 Their cinematics department is too small. It's a fairly small team of extremely talented veteran animators, which means they can do extremely high quality stuff but it takes a very long time. To do a film they'd need to hire tons of outside animators and the budget would skyrocket.
Yeah, I do agree with Red Sparrow. But these cinematics alone cost them too much money, i think millions by just these kind of duration. It's really expensive but worth it for the part of the Blizzard team. But then again, it costs too much money
Tyrone just go to youtube and look up Blizzard cinematics and youll get results for all of their cinematics. Do like a video upload spree of you reacting to all of them!
Should definitely watch their "Lords of War" series they did a few years back. The animation style is different (painted stills with a little motion here and there) but still just as incredible in its own right. Also pretty easy for someone who doesn't play the game to follow along since it was introducing the next expansion at the time.
@ Tyrone Magnus in regards to the Warcraft movie. Its entertaining, but unless your a serious fan of the franchise, it probably wouldn't make a lot of sense. I remember watching it thinking..."well this is probably not going to do well". Not because I didn't like it...I did, but I'm a warcraft gamer, and have read a lot of their novels. So they talked about stuff in the movie, only the fans would pick up on. Blizzard was involved with the story line and had creative control, on the production end of the movie. I think the reason why it didn't do well in the mainstream cinema, is there is to much information to put into a movie for it to make sense. The events of the movie are heavy lore for the Warcraft franchise, but that film would have had to be 6 hours long for it to make sense, if not longer. Warcraft movie is legendary pictures studio... but i think cgi in the movie is done in lucasarts studio .. not sure, but blizzard for 100 mil dollars should done it by self they are very good
No, the Warcraft movie was handed off to someone else who did it in live action and isn't well regarded (understatement) among the WoW fans. It's decent, but they took a lot of liberties with the story and lore of Warcraft.
They did the Warcraft movie, but they used actors. They should have done the movie like they do the cinematics. Would have been so much better. So much better.

Mucrush draenei and Draenor, but props to you for knowing the lore 😊
Darude Sandstorm it's the home to the Night Elves, think like the movie Avatar.
Darude Sandstorm yes
She burned millions alive in that tree. In game- on the alliance side-, you have to rescue as many as you can before you pass out from the smoke and are evacuated yourself.
Honestly you should check out all of the WoW cinematics!
FusionMaster he should also watch all the Starcraft 2 Cinematics
And Diablo cinematics :O
Not only WoW. But the original Warcraft and all the other Blizzard Games. I think Diablo Act 4 Intro has one of the best cinematics.
He won't know which ones unless you link them since there are technically hundreds and hundreds of cinematics.
You should watch the Lich King cinematic
omg yeees that would be awesome Wotlk is my favourite.
Yeah. This. Still the best one, imo.
It's the best one !
Yes! I think still the best one ever made
and Cataclysm!
You should react to Warbringer Jaina and Warbringer Sylvanas as well.
Yes you should! Sylvanas one is really important to understand well this one about Saurfang!
i agree, gotta watch those to be caught up to what is going on.
The Warbringer series has really freaked out the players
Yeah, come on Tyrone, react to Warbringer Jaina and Warbringer Sylvanas as well :D
Yes!
Saurfang is my absolute favorite character, he should be the warchief imo
There is a Warcraft movie and it's pretty good as far as game movies go... But I so wish Blizzard would make their animated movie like this :-D Imagine this cinematic just as a 2 hour movie :-D
the movie is not from blizzard itself they just cooperated but blizzard has no visual things done in the movie. explains why the nightelf and garona were humans in costumes
There are no night elves in the movie I think
I don't think it would be THAT long... Maybe like 2-3 years if we cut the corporate stuff, just the development itself
Pavel H They said in an interview that 1 minute takes them month to animate
As others have said, it would take a long time and cost a heck of a lot to make. Likely $175-200m+.

You can't forget Azshara's Warbringer video. That one was so beautiful, badass and creepy/sinister.

I wish the Warcraft movie had a sequel. Fans liked it but the critique don't, because they expected Lord of the Rings... lol
Edmo I personally loved the movie because it was spot on for the lore and lore is the biggest reason I love WoW
I think the Warcraft movie is one of the best game adaptions, even though it is technically more of a book adaption. Lionsgate was the one who did the Warcraft movie. They had consultation from Blizzard Entertainment.
Zack Davis it was Legendary Pictures and Universal.

Almost certain Blizzard didn't have any animation work on the actual Warcraft movie. I believe that was Legendary Pictures themselves.
A father without a son and a son without a father T___T
You should also check out Warbringers Sylvanas for context on this trailer. Also this is a prelude to the opening cinematic of Battle for Azeroth.
World of Warcraft is still the best game ever, and Blizzard is amazing as always
To bad there writing team shat the bed with the whole Sylvanas thing, other then that Yeah.
lol get butt hurt tard
Nah man you didn't play StarCraft
I played all the Blizzard games, everything is amazing but WoW is still the best.
IceChillxen like she wasn't already a genocidal freak, what did she do to gilneas?
this is the prequel cinematic to the "World of Warcraft: Battle for Azeroth Cinematic Trailer" that you reacted 8 months ago.

@ Tyrone Magnus in regards to the Warcraft movie.

Also Blizzard doesn't have a filming studio, at least I do not believe they do. They have motion capture and pretty much the best top of the line facilities for game creation and cinematic creation. I think they had to turn to some production studios to get the movie made though. So in that process, story is always trimmed down, and scenes get cut in order to fit the film into the standard 2 hour time slot. Best CGI I've ever seen honestly. Blizzard are king on these.
The Warcraft movie was really meant for fans of the game. Sadly because of its pacing (moves to fast) its very hard for none fans to get into. it should have been two movies.
Blizzard Entertainment and Legendary Pictures did the Warcraft movie. The movie was soooo good!!

Full length CGI movie like this = not possible, cause it would NEVER make the money back and would take also incredibly long time to make.
Also, I'm astounded Blozzard has not moved on to creating Animated Films. I would pay to see movies like this.
watch the cinematic trailers one called burning crusade one called wrath of the lich king next is cataclysm then mists of pandaria then warlords of draenor then legion and finally the one you already saw battle for azeroth
Hearthstone Animated Short "Hearth and Home" absolutly amazing!
Warbringers Jaina is another recent thing Blizzard did, really really good, you should check it out.
Should definetely check out the new Sylavanas Warbringer and The Wrath Of the Lich King Cinematic
Probably put out the best cinematics? They've been putting out the best cinematics in gaming since Diablo, no one else is even close.
Saurfang a solider with severe PTSD and survivors guilt. 3 tours of combat in Iraq I know.
Check them all out !
this is right before the actual BFA cinematic trailer.
Tyrone, have you played any Warcraft game before? I'm curious to know if you're a fan or if you just watch the cinematics
What is that monitor?
React to WOW Jaina Warbringer!
see the warcraft movie, blizzard didnt "do it" but they had participating rights, but tbh the movie is good, as a guy that knows the lore the problem was putting like 3 books into a movie :P never works i always said warcraft had to be a series but oh well i dont judge :P
Warbringers: Sylvanis is great and explains the events leading up to this! 😁
2:15 Tyrofang 😂🤣
Terrian Gregory and his team at blizzard are responsible for this and all the other cinematics
Tyrone, pls react to all wow cinematics
ya dude you do so well voicing WoW characters. not just the orcs but a lot of those demon voices were super growly and deep.
Yes, The Warcraft Movie is a thing. You should watch it.
All Trolls are Jamaican, for some reason lol. Just like Gilneans are British...
The BfA cinematic comes right after this video btw
You really should watch the Warcraft movie, it’s my favorite movie of all time. And please do a review when you’ve seen it
Warcraft movie is legendary pictures studio... but i think cgi in the movie is done in lucasarts studio .. not sure, but blizzard for 100 mil dollars should done it by self they are very good
No blizz didnt do the movie the company that works with the Mcu did it
yes blizzard was involved in the warcraft movie
between blizzard and bioware they make the best cinematics bar none
I think Star Wars The Old Republic has the best cinematics. These are great too though
Warcraft the movie 2016 get it on 4K Tyrone the orcs in the movie are CRAZY well done i think you'd like the movie !!!
that cinematic is the previous to the battle for azeroth trailer
No, the Warcraft movie was handed off to someone else who did it in live action and isn't well regarded (understatement) among the WoW fans. It's decent, but they took a lot of liberties with the story and lore of Warcraft.
pretty sure they didnt do the warcraft movie it would of looked more then what it was i think blizzard just claimed it
TYRONE WATCH WARCRAFT LICH KING CINEMATIC! I know you wouldn't but i had to try, cause it's best of them!
Yes the Troll has a Jamaican accent
Hm I remember back in the day when I subbed you only had 200k, feels so good to see you growing, keep it up man.
They did the Warcraft movie, but they used actors. They should have done the movie like they do the cinematics. Would have been so much better. So much better.
Watch cinematic shorts and may be ingame cinematics
Troll accent, personality and environment were inspired by Jamaican and Caribbean influences.
