Why the 2021 Toyota Highlander LIMITED model OVER the PLATINUM?

- Опубликовано: 3 апр 2021
- The 2021 Toyota Highlander Limited all-wheel-drive gas model comes with a number of features that you can consider to be classified under bells and whistle ‘s. Some might say that there is no need to go up to the platinum 2021 Highlander.
From the 2021 Toyota Highlander XLE model there are many features that you gain when going to the limited model. However going from the Limited to the platinum package may not be easy to justify for some. It can be hard to decide. But in this video I give you a side by side look and discussion on the two models, while mainly reviewing the limited package.

Very nicely explained 👍
You sure know what you sell, which is very nice to see, a lot of sales guys don’t have all that knowledge on what they sell,
I really like the new 2021 Highlander Platinum, but the price is almost as much as the new 2022 Acura MDX Tech trim which is more luxurious and roomy,
Having said that,
I would buy the highlander any day from you if that’s what I decide to get.
Thanks.
Thx for the kind words! We went through, Audi Q5, Acura MDX, Hyundai Tuscon, VW Tiguan and VW atlas and a 2017 highlander. That highlander was my wife’s most favourite SUV! No issues and very comfortable and reliable.
This is one of the best reviews of the 2021Highlander on RUclips. Basically tells the difference between a Limited a Platinum and XSE. The Limited is the one I would want. I prefer the bench seat since I carry cargo often and prefer the flat load floor with no place for things to fall through. Plus you can put carry another person in the rear seat. The Limited checks all the boxes for extra features I want. real leather seats, ventilated and heated seats, memory seats, JBL stereo, wireless phone charger, power rear liftgate, sunroof, nice alloy rims, LED headlights, torque vector AWD.
Thank you
Great video, keep it up 👍🏼
I did choose the Platinum mainly for the middle row seats and heads up display and especially for the glazed caramel interior....sharpest interior ever Great job!!!
Me too! Blizzard Pearl with Caramel interior.
Love it,thanks you for sharing video . Good day .
We just bought the Platinum on thursday, Great SUV
Yes!
I just bought the xle yesterday. Love it
Platinum:
- Steering adaptive headlight
- panoramic moon roof
- illuminated door sill
- rear heated seat
- rain sensing wiper
-360 view standard
- 12” media screen standard
- glazed caramel option
- digital mirror
- HUD
- front and rear bumper silver accent paint
for a little over 2k that's a steal!
My advice go Toyota. :)
That's why I went with the Platinum. He didn't cover everything.
Had my 2021 Highlander Limited hybrid for 8 months. Spectacular vehicle in every way. Just a standard sunroof...not panoramic in US. Driven it 15,000 incredible miles already
Hi, i can't decide between the limited and the platinum (+2300$) what is your opinion on it? Thanks!
Platinum
@@JoeGX460 …. The extra features are very nice but don’t know if they warrant the big extra charge or will materially alter your love of the car. I opted for the limited. It’s everything I need
The make plenty of Limited models with the captains chairs in the middle as well. I have been test driving them for weeks and have not found a Limited with the bench seat yet as a matter of fact. The Limited models I have driven also have had the 360 degree birds eye view as well. I guess if you are talking straight up standard equipment but these features are not uncommon to cross over.
Just got a 2021 Limited, same color too, but sooo envious that you guys up there get a panoramic roof on Limited trim.
My 2021 toyota highlander limited hybrid only has a regular sunroof. But it has the 360 birds view and also heated windshield feature.. Also mines has the same size screen as the platinum. I'm in PA. Great video.
The limited doesn’t come with a 360 camera system. I’m about to pull the trigger on one of these In that color but wanting the grey interior
I powder coated my ‘21 Platinum wheels gloss black. They look awesome!
Good overview, I went with the Platinum for the other amenities (HUD) etc. as you noted above. I also went with the gray leather, caramel is popular but wasn't a deal breaker. I looked at the Palisade as well, but the divorced head lights are not for me - seems to be a fad and may not look well over the years. You can't argue the value proposition on the Hyundai, but they don't have a hybrid option which only Toyota has in this segment right now. The Kia Sorenta has a hybrid for 2021, but is smaller and no AWD - due out later in the year I was told.
Nice Edward. Wicked truck
Awesome video Mark. What year is the Celica?? Im thinking 86 or 87 .
Hey!! 1983! 88,439km driven...
One more big difference between limited and Platinum that you didn’t mention is the screen size which make a big gap when you are driving and want to see the map, audio and other controls like air temperature system.
Although the limited is nice...the platinum is just another beast with that 12 inch infotainment center as well. Beautiful vehicle
You can get the limited with that included.
I have the 2020 Highlander Limited in FWD. I was able to get the captain chairs in the rear on mine, so it’s a 7 seater. I also have the optional navigation display that’s standard on the Platinum. The only real difference I see are the sunroof, rear ventilated seats, and slightly better headlights, and the rim design. I like the rims on the Limited better than those on the Platinum. So basically, I have a Limited with Platinum options, and I still came out cheaper than a Platinum. The only upgrade I would want and I’m going to my local dealer about this is now they can add a trailer hitch on the Limited and Platinum models. Previously, they were unavailable on them because of the hands free tailgate. Now they are available and they can be retrofitted to a 2020 model.
Got a limited over platinum love it no regrets
Yea
Can I get a platinum with bench seats .. thanks for the video . Well explained
Wait a second about 52 000, it will be more than that, you will see that it will go up to 60 000 and more because you will also want to take the Toyota protection programs after the standard warranty period of only 36 months or 36.000 miles. Because for a Limited or Platinum you have a lot of "bells and whistles" and all those need to be protected. You will have to pay all the taxes, vehicle registration tax, delivery fee, and all kind of added things. Plus interest to the bank if it's going to be financed, even if you put a down-payment of half of the price.
As functionally feature-rich as the Highlander is, Toyota oddly omitted a very useful feature that is common on other vehicles: the ability of the vehicle to auto-lock the doors after the driver has exited and walked away. Not a deal-breaker …. Our 2021 Highlander (loaded) Limited is a fantastic piece of engineering, but my other vehicle, a 2017 Honda CR-V, sticks its tongue out every time I exit it and walk away !
Lol. Sticks it tongue out.
Just put money on a platinum hybrid...SO many upgrades for a few grand...MORE than worth it! Cant wait...Aug 11th
And the issue with all Highlanders I test drives is between 40 mph and 75 mph there is wind noise that I think it’s from side mirrors.
Hello, I have a question about the back up camera quality on these..
Seems that no one talks about this and wanted your opinion and take on it.
Seems subpar for a vehicle of this trim.
Does it seem fuzzy and grainy to you and not as good as other lower trim vehicles?
Can you do one on the camera quality?
Thanks
For the price you pay. Toyota’s back up cameras are 100 percent
Definitely Canada only… the U.S Limited only comes with a regular moonroof, not panoramic. I want bench seats, a panoramic roof and birds eye view, so I settled for the limited🤦🏾♀️
Can we just drive to Canada and buy a limited :)
HUD is the option
Wish they would fix the whistling problem from the driver door rear view mirror assembly and the interior rattling noise.
I have neither in my ‘21 Platinum
Returned My 2 day old last Friday 2021 Highlander LE due to wind noise/ whistling coming from dashboard.
I just bought the limited tnx
Hi, how would you compare the Highlander with a Lexus UX ?
Can’t promise. But if u can get my hands on one i def will
Why does the xse only have 7 seats available?
I’m confused 😕 I got 2021 Highlander limited awd but mine come with that front camera, bird view, and my dash screen look like the platinum 😳🤔
Weird how your limited has the pano roof but I can’t configure one that way on Toyota’s website???
Toyota.ca?
@@ToyotaWorld ah gotcha. I’m in the US
I was wondering the same thing... Thought he made a mix up..lol
Super frustrating that Toyota Canada doesn't give you all the options that you get in the USA. I had to purchase a limited because I NEED the 3 across the middle, but I wanted all the bells and whistles of the Platinum. I just don't get why they spec their vehicles differently in Canada.
Daniel. California as a state sells nearly as much. Perhaps even more than Canada as a country. We are a small market.
@@ToyotaWorld We hear that excuse a lot in Canada across lots of different industries, but at the same time other manufacturers make it work.
Do you do a review limited VS XLE?
Hmmmm. No but I’ll do one :)
looking at the platinum in blueprint. figure when I sell it in a couple of years I will get better resale. also I like having the extra bells and whistles. and the heads up display is cool.
Anddd the 360 camera !
im lookong glaze caramel interior and ruby flare exterior an hybrid highlander platinum but its not available in Canada they said at dealership its available ONLY at USA
pictures of the caramel looked too orange to me. We passed on a platinum ruby flare/caramel fwd. We have to wait until late july for a limited ruby flare awd with graphite interior.. hybrids may be more likely to have parts shortages according to our sales associate.
What’s horsepower and cylinders
I was shocked at the price of limited that lacked basic features as led lights. I've been a Toyota person for many years, owned a 2012 great car, now an avalon. But pricing high and lacking some standard safety equipment is not cool.
I
It’s 2021 now
The limited has LED lights..
@@JLGibbs50 he meant led interior lights.
@@jermainedouglas7301 how do you know that?
Too bad the window on the tailgate doesn't open up anymore, what a bummer!
Wired feature in Canada because we have 360 degrees camera in limited in USA
Almost 50k and no ventilated seats in XSE... not good
navigation screen on limited 8+ inches and on platinum 12+ inches ....now why?
I don’t think you mentioned the Platinum screen which is wider than the Limited. That’s one of the biggest differences.
Just get the Platinum. Re-sale value will be better than an almost-Platinum Limited model.
I don’t know. Tricky one on the resale evaluation side
Can I add 12 inch screen to Limited?
Not in Canada sorry
Hey Toyota world . Is it true the sequoia will come out in hybrid? Thanks
I think it will.
Most of Toyota’s supply will end up hyrbid.
Love your videos . Thanks
The price difference for the Limited over the XLE is mostly for a bunch of really unnecessary stuff, especially if only one person is normally driving the car. Memory seats? Who cares? Panoramic sunroof? Can’t see it from the driver’s seat. Heated steering wheel? Useless. Closing the hatch with your foot? Well, that’s OK until you get a hitch and the foot thing doesn’t work anymore. Premium headlights? As long as the XLE headlights light up the road, who cares? 11 speakers? That one might be kind of nice until you get pulled over for having your music up too loud. Leather seats? If you look at the SoftTex, it’s hard to tell the difference. Don’t forget that for each of these supposed upgrades, Toyota is charging you a premium price. Go for the XLE hybrid and you’ll live happily ever after.
Thx for comments
"XLE Hybrid and you'll live happily after 10 years or 150K miles" and required to change your hybrid battery! Hybrid battery warranty by Toyota , 10 years or 150K miles then if hybrid battery is not operational , the car WILL NOT start or be drivable and required to change hybrid battery - by dealer cost at least $5000 parts & labor (I said at least because it might be higher but maybe cheaper if you go outside non-dealer auto repair to replace hybrid battery and of course if they corrupt your Highlander computer control, it is another $5000 cost ...good luck)
@@jpthsd
Don't forget that is just the warranty period. There is no requirement to get a new battery at 10 years or 150,000 miles. There are many stories about 1997 Prius' batteries still going strong to this day.
@@Dr.TJ1 like you said, there are stories :) ....Batteries die sometimes right? :)
Try to see yourself, resale value of non-hybrid vehicle vs hybrid vehicle :) , and which will be sold faster than other
I drive 2015 Prius Plug-in, I live in Los Angeles County, I got it just because of the HOV green access sticker! However, if I have a choice for a SUV, It will never be a Hybrid, dependency is the hybrid battery if keeping the car up to pass 10 years! Of course I and every average joe like us will tend to keep the cars 10+ years!
That's the hidden cost not to mention for buying Hybrid vehicle!
yes , by saying nice, "there are stories" , the truth is most of hybrid batteries are not lasting like 24 years :) !! the most would pay quiet cost to replace a new hybrid battery either by dealer or non-dealer auto repair shop!
@@jpthsd
Think about it this way though. If I drive 100,000 miles in 8 years, I would save $6400 in gas over the non-hybrid. That's enough to pay for the battery replacement or, combined with what I could get if I sold it, quite a nice down payment on a new one. 20 years ago the hybrids cost $7000 more than the non-hybrids, but these days that's no longer true. Dealers are pretty much selling like equipped hybrids and non-hybrids for the same price.
I bought limited with big screen 12.3 360 view for only 46K I don't like captain seat at any SUV , 8 passenger my need
In October of 2018 I leased a 2018 Highlander Platinum edition that now only has 18,880 miles on it. I only have 2 payments left and my buyout is 27k. It is extremely clean inside and out.. I am torn between buying this vehicle or using any equity I have and putting that down to get the 2021 Highlander Platinum Hybrid or go and get the SX Kia Telluride with Prestige Package. I tried checking the value of my lease and the numbers come back with a value range of 35000 to 38500.
Not sure what to do other than go test drive both vehicles. Keeping what I have seems to be the better value...27k vs over 50k. But the newer Highlander and Telluride SUV'S have those really nice new look entertainment systems. Mine is a touch screen too, but not like those.
John are you in Ontario?

P.S. Your video was very informative.
Thanks!!
In the last 2 weeks I have probably watched over 100 different review videos of the Highlander, Telluride, Palisade and Seinna. Lol 🤣
If possible try and drive them all back to back and you will know which one is right for you. All nice trucks. My pick is highlander of course …. Lol

Probably going to ask Toyota for my buyout paper and keep what I have, but it is a very hard thing for me because since 1986 I have gotten a new vehicle every 3 years.... Maybe it's time to stick with what I loved in 2018. Thank you for replying.
👍😊👍
Cool. Take care
Does the phone dock accommodate an iPhone 12 Pro Max?
Yes! Just bought the Platinum AWD in Blueprint..( 2 weeks old) comfortable, sporty and elegant at the same time. This is coming from a 36 year old male with no kids. Best 46k I've ever spent.
@@bbyers8741 I’m 31 and I’m definitely considering it, though my interest is piqued by the Lexus NX redesign for 2022😬. Congratulations on your new vehicle btw!
Are you in Canada? If so, is the limited model a panoramic sunroof?
Yup. Ontario canada! And yes limited does have pano roof
@@ToyotaWorld thank you very much!
Nice white Supra
I know !!!
Platinum wins hands down. $2300 price difference makes this a no brainer.
Do the side mirrors automatically fold in on the Platinum model??? If not, that's a deal buster....
They don’t my friend. You would need to fold manually
$55000 and no folding mirrors...HELLO LEXUS RX!!!

one reason I want to wait for the 2022 year. my 2015 has powerfolding mirros and cost a hell of a lot less.

I'm not sure why anyone wants a 20 inch wheel in a family cruiser. I want more rubber, less rim.
You sound old and dated... They have plenty of rubber around the rims. Why don't you just get a monster truck to play it safe.
@@bbyers8741 I am old and dated. That's why I want a smoother ride and to spend less on replacement tires.
Besides who needs a sporty ride in this kind of vehicle.
مرحبا هل هاي سياره تصدر إلى العراق
I will just get limited or Xle lol
Platinum should have a bench seat optional. It's a deal breaker for me.
The height of the trunk sucks. It is 2 inches lower than in the Rav4.
The floor of the trunk slopes up. This sucks too.
Finally - this SUV is not for anyone who is 5-4 (164 cm) or shorter. The seat will not adjust to make you sit high enough. Period.
Panoramic moonroof; a great reason to avoid the limited. Scratch it from my list.
They need to make this SUV more masculine.
Platinum
the real difference don't start till 4mins...
No power folding mirror, no auto dimming outside mirrors, come on. Toyota.
For saying ya know the cars like the back of your hand you sure got a lot wrong dude! 😅
These cars are gas pigs and something going on with the fuel tanks on these Highlanders mine gets horrible has milage and doesn't even get three hundred miles to a tank buyers beware if you want want to save fuel stay far away from these cars
Dude i juste try to get the difference between those 2 model and i cant get it. You just talk to much. Go straight to the point dam it. It just to mush frustrating for me i cant watch it to the end
