heat shields are busted in KSP, I think I've done actual minmus-kerbin reentries without circularizing in LKO after removing like 80% of the ablator on the heat shield, you rarely have to worry about kerbin reentry unless you're at interplanetary speeds also I'm pretty sure the speedrunners play on easy idr
@@Phoenix2.5D I use zero ablator in my heat shields coming from other planets. It still has really high heat tolerance, like 4,000 m/s coming straight in or 8,000 m/s coming in shallow. The little bit of mass savings helps, I think.
This run is awesome. You're really fast. Some tips for potential time saves: 1) You can press Enter (or maybe backspace?) during the loading screens to the space center to skip clicking those windows. 2) If your parachute fully opens at 100+ meters, that means you could have set it 100 meters lower. 3) Ambient Light Boost around +40 will make landings in the dark a bit easier.
is time calculated with load times? if it is you could probably shave like half a minute or more off but putting KSP onto a ram disk so the load times are almost instantaneous
Reentering from mun without periapsis is wild. Doing it with barely any ablator is just outstanding.

@@Phoenix2.5D It is required to play on normal mode but your absolutly right about heat shields

Impressive
Now let's see Paul Allen's card
ay thats really sick

Yeah it is calculated with load times. Thank you for the suggestion I will definitely try it!
