  • In this video, we're going to be taking a look at the Seiko 5 Sports resin case range of watches. These models are, quite possibly, the most interesting watches from Seiko that I have handled in recent times...But, speaking frankly ...I am not too sure what to make of them.
Rather than a typical 316L stainless steel case, the sensibly sized 39mm case is made in a hard resin material. As a result, the watch is super light. Unfortunately, I don't have a miniature scale to weigh them & google was of no use as I couldn't even find the models online! - If anyone knows how much they weigh, please put it in the comments section!
Whilst we are on the topic of models, the three models shown in the video are:
    The SRPG71 - Black Bezel/Cream Dial
    The SRPG77 - Brown Bezel/Brown Dial
    The SRPG79 - Black Bezel/Black Dial
In terms of specs, the watch is 100m water-resistant, has a Hardlex crystal & is powered by the Seiko 4R36 automatic movement.
The watches have an RRP of $399 but are typically found @ Starbuy.com.au for sub $300 AUD.
If you are interested in taking a look then please visit them here:
    starbuy.com.au...
    starbuy.com.au...
    starbuy.com.au...
As always, if you have any questions, please leave them in the comments section & I will respond to you as soon as I can.
Thanks again for taking the time to watch the video & supporting the channel!
    See you soon!

I'm an industrial electrician and metal is not an option. I wear a blue srpg, I love it. Resin case and silicone band makes it electra-safe enough that I haven't been pinged for wearing it even with the obviously metal crown and buckle. I have a "nicer" self winder for other occasions but find myself wearing the srpg all the time except when in a suit.

I like them to be honest. People moaning about the price but Seiko’s usually start selling between £50 - £80 less than RRP after a while on the net.

These resin Seiko 5s were only released for the Oceania market as a limited run model for some ocean awareness. The resin cases were made from recycled ocean plastics or something. It was not produced to take on the Moonswatch, Seiko already made one of these resin models a year or so ago just for the Chinese market even before Moonswatch was a thing.

I really wish I ordered one of these. They were super cheap when they came out. I had an Aussie friend that could have shipped one out. Would have loved the Green. Super unique and cool.

I'm not against making lower-end versions of watches with lesser materials, but those lesser materials should result in a lesser price as well. These just don't make sense to me.

Yes. I think at the price point they are at it's a difficult proposition...in saying that. They are around $250 AUD @Starbuy

Spot on. They needed a moonswatch like watch. This is good enough. It's not amazing. But it's good enough for a good sportswatch until someone makes something as light for the price. Are there others in this resin or plastic category of automatic sports/beach/exercise watches you like that are similar? The Moonswatch is too much of a toy. This feels better quality.

It's a bummer because the dials and case size could work really well for a 5kx

What has Seiko done here! Cannot find the watch on their website. That says something I guess. And 18 mm strap and screwed caseback... For the money, I buy several Casio's with same specs. Cannot remember that Seiko made a mistake like this ....

I like the idea, but the ivory colour of the case is a bit vanilla! Also they're quite expensive. I'd like to see blue, red, grey, etc, cases. Thanks for the review.

Utter rubbish at the price they are asking. Timex as an example ofter way more for the money. You could even get a Citizen Eco drive for this price point, or a Casio G-shock

Are you posting from Australia? Fortunately this plastic watch seems not be available elsewhere.. 😆 (can't find it in Italy/Europe). Is that a special edition for your country?

Awfully finished lint magnet at an insulting price. If it was 50 quid I'd still hesitate. A few months of grim and I bet these will look terrible. Got excited by the thumbnail but on closer inspection it's a 'hell no' from me. I'm really glad I wasn't able to get my hands on a 'moonswatch' either. I was all onboard the hype train until I got a closer look. Their lack of availability saved me some money.
