Vintage Interview with Johnny and Kenny of Type O Negative (1995)

  • Against my better judgement, I have decided to upload this, rather cringe inducing, interview with Johnny Kelly (drums) and Kenny Hickey (guitars) of the incredibly awesome, Type O Negative. This interview originally was supposed to be done with Peter Steele (bass, vocals and main songwriter) but a last minute change brought Johnny and Kenny to the interview, thus some generic questions.
Please check out Kenny and Johnny's newest project (at the time this was uploaded) Silvertomb which released their debut album in 2019.

LOVE the hair! I have only seen a pic or two and another video of your hair, so this is awesome! That's cool that you got to interview them! Cable access shows were pretty popular in the 90's. Love it!

We had some big plans for the show but the "producer" at the station was a real creep, so we decided not to move forward with it. If only RUclips existed back then. :)

Great interview given that you were put on the spot. Only THIS week did I finally discover what was being sung at the end of ‘Can’t Lose You’. There is ALMOST nothing online about it.

I had asked Peter the same question once and he told me what he was saying during the entire ending sequence. Unique stuff.

Sean Flaharty Crazy, huh? So cool you got to ask him! I thought it was going to be super lovey poetry and uhhh, then I worked it out. 😂

@@SlimeCrimes He was a very down to earth guy. I met him five or six times over the years. I remember seeing them opening for Motley Crue. A about an hour after Type O got off stage, he walked down a ramp that led into the crowd, to watch King's X, who was next on the bill. He was standing there enjoying the show like every else. I had just purchased a Type O shirt and went over to shake his hand. No one was even paying attention to him being there. I shook his hand and he saw I had purchased the shirt. He took it from me and said, "You know what we use these shirts for?" When I told him "no", he acted like he wiped his ass with it, then handed it back. I laughed and he told me he was joking. He then said he would get another shirt for me if I was bothered by his gesture. I told him it was all good and I would keep the shirt. We ended up watching a few more songs by King's X (which I am a big fan of as well) before I walked away and went back to my seat area.

I love Crowbar. I saw them a couple of times on their last headlining tour. Great band and Kirk is one of the nicest dudes you will ever meet in metal. We actually had a conversation about Type-O. He has a Type-O tattoo on his hand. I asked him if Type O had any influence on Crowbar turning down to B-standard. He confirmed to me that hearing Type-O's first album inspired him to downtune to B. Pretty cool. Thanks for watching!

I remember you telling me that you dug Type O Neg. But I never thought you would have interview footage with Kenny and Johnny. Even though you had to come up with the question quick you still did a top notch job. I always considered you to be one of the coolest guys that I subscribe to. But after seeing this your coolness has now reached new heights. Way to go Sean. Wasn't Johnny and Kenny in a band called Seventh Void? The "cow town underground" 00:33 sound effect was spot on. ~
