Just got the 2020 Indian Scout 100th Anniversary Limited Edition last week. Only rode it a few miles around town and I already love it. So comfortable and easy to handle. Even after 23 years of not riding. It was easy to ride.
@@leesuschrist I believe it's actually to cool the engine while sitting in traffic. I know that's why the Harley does it it basically turns the one cylinder into an air pump that just helps cool the engine since the Harleys are air cooled. That's off as soon as you begin to go.

Same. I was so pumped while leaks were coming out last summer, but was disappointed when I saw the finished product. But it has been growing on me. I think the thing I like the least is the side profile, in particular the tank shape. It just looks... too muscular. Like it is overcompensating. I'm assuming that is because it's their "muscle" bike.
I'm thinking that was the cylinder deactivation mode. But the bike is killer. Definitely on my short list. Thanks for a informative review without going over the top & repeating yourself over & over. Enjoyed it.
Not sure if someone said it but the noise might have been in the heads. I’ve noticed it on the scout and my challenger. Barely hear it with exhaust. The bike seeming like it was gonna die was most likely the rear cylinder deactivation. Helps with heat. My throttle felt better after break in. Good review man. Like always good video.
I really like the windshield on my '18 Chieftain. I usually raise it while on the highway and lower it while riding around town. But being able to move it up and down is a big advantage as you learn to use it for each situation you may find yourself in.
u were wondering the engine when u stop?? The rear engine will shut down and u can only hear the sound of the front engine running. There is a sign at the top left corner to indicate the rear engine being turn off when u are idling..
Definitely one of my favorite Indians . In my opinion it rides alot better then a road glide special. I got to ride both at bike week this year. The fact it comes with so much more then the road glide makes it even more desirable.
iv never been much of a indian guy but when they first started to come out again me and my father test rode some and they are by far the most comfortable and smoothest bikes iv ever ridden, i might get one of these for my second bike.
Rode one at a demo day not too long after I had bought my street glide and all I can say is the whole time I was riding it all I was thinking was how much they’d give me on trade. I loved it. Like you said it’s smooth, comfortable, already has LED lighting, and that electric windshield is great. Sound system puts my Harley’s to shame. Don’t get me wrong I love my Harley but if I were to buy again this would be what I’d get. If your in the market for a touring bike check this out.
I think the idle sound you heard was the rear cylinder de-activating to dissipate heat. It's designed that way. You can supposedly shut it off in the infotainment system.
I love my 2018 - 116 Chieftain limited but when I test rode the challenger I was blown away. The shifter is so smooth the gear change and the ride is amazing they’ve done a really good job with this bike. Way better than the other bikes the industry would say are in the same class.
I’ve always really appreciated the fit and finish on what Indian has been putting out. Now this is my opinion coming from a Triumph Scrambler owner so smaller motorcycle, but something about Indian baggers seems to be more approachable to me than the road or street glides. And I think it’s from a combination of ergonomics and price points.
The Indian just feels more compact and easier to handle. It feels like a bike half it's weight when taking it off the stand. The front rake makes these Indian baggers just seem like they handle cornering like a dream.
You may have the cylinder deactivation mode which will make it sound like it’s going to turn off when your idol but as soon as you hit the throttle the cylinder activate and you’re able to drive off before power. The goal intent is to lower the heat of the cylinder hitch for a more comfortable ride.

I am a Harley-Davidson rider. I have owned 3 Harley-Davidson bikes in my lifetime, an 88,96, and the new 107 cubic inch Milwaukee 8 street glide. Indian Motorcycles have caught my eye big time with their maintenance free design and ease of doing oil changes, gear drive primarily, single oil fill, and fully counter balanced engine. The push button start of both the oil/air & now the liquid cooled challenger is miles ahead of Harley-Davidson in smoothness as well as full LED lighting. By the time I ride out my 2017 Harley-Davidson I am sure Harley-Davidson will come out with a motorcycle similar in function, technology, and cooling as Indian.
You asked at 9:11 what we think about the layout me personally I’m not a big fan of it it’s very square and box like. and it just doesn’t appeal to my eye

Love the big screen in forefront of gauges. Nice plenty of power from the factory the way it should be. Why do you have to buy different stages from a competitor that should be offered from the factory.

I just demo ride this bike yesturday and coming from a Kawasaki concours rider i can tell you that i was blown away by the torque of the bike power and comfort if i had the money (because yes the price on this bike is steep for me 35,000 can) but if i ever buy another bagger this bike beat the Harley road glide for me great video bro. ride safe
Nice looking bike! I am a Harley guy and can’t see myself changing over. But Indian did well with this bike. My only complaint is all of features I am more of a plain Jane bike owner.
It's worth mentioning, some people think the fairing looks big in pictures. In person, it doesn't look so big. Also, those look like the pull-back bars as well. it's a 200 W stereo system. The lean control system is a 6-axis Bosch system and the base Challenger doesn't have the lean technology. Also, you can't compare water-cooled cubic inches with air-cooled cubic inches, it's night and day, making this bike completely different from the Road Glide. Lastly, the pulsing you heard when you stopped...it was likely the rear cylinder deactivation. When the ambient temperature is above 59F and the engine is up to temp, the rear cylinder will deactivate when you get under 1000 RPM and you release the throttle. The idea is to reduce heat in traffic congestion. It can be deactivated. My Springfield will drop down to 750 RPM when the rear cylinder turns off. It's normal.
I came away from my test ride really impressed with the bike. So much so, I might make it my next ride after I pay off my Bobber. As for the noise, I dont recall anything from the demo bike I rode but on the forums some owners are talking about it. It seems that its coming from the primary, also that test bike may not have had the throttle bodies re-sinked. Dont quote me on the exact verbiage thought. For me, the bars felt good but I could see how bigger guys would hate them. Im 5'8 30in inseam and felt very comfortable on the bike. Excellet review sir, now get on that FTR lol. I was hoping to get to a Harley dealer event in my area this weekend to I can test ride some bikes for my channel, unfortunately it going to have to wait. I like seeing channels explore other brands of bikes. Ride safe bro.
I have been on demo day and rode the challenger. Super nice bike. Super comfortable and love that windshield. The only thing is it sounds metric. But not smooth like a Honda. Kinda clanky rattling sound from the engine. I own a Harley and the motor on my bike sounds so much more solid. There is no noise from my engine, just the rumble from the exhaust. But I would by a challenger as a second bike. It was super smooth on the interstate.
I have a 2020 Street Glide Special and I love it, but Indian does some things that I really like. Indian from the factory, I think, comes ready to ride without much customization needed. It has premium breaks, better suspension, especially in the front end. I also like the setup of the infotainment system better, it is much more intuitive and user friendly. I do think that if you are buying a bike and you want to customize it and make it yours the Harley is the better option there is more aftermarket applications for the Harley.
You're bang on with that one. Definitely more aftermarket support but Indian under Polaris is still young so I'm sure that will grow too. But for the equal amount of money Indian does really give way more from the factory. Suspension alone compared to Harley
The infotainment system is called Ride Command. The hesitation that you hear at stop sign is most likely the rear cylinder deactivation. We had a local biker here in Seattle that went by Santa. He was murdered by the Hells Angels. .
Not an Indian fan but it looks like a pretty solid offering. I have a few friends who ride Indian and who love their bikes. The inner fairing looks like a boom box, hahah. Still super happy with H-D and my '09 FXDL. The hordes of anti H-D trolls convince me that I'm in the right place, ya know? Can't see myself riding anything else. Keep up the good work brother!
I think it reminds me more of a Victory Vision than a road glide. I can see owning one of these down the road. I'm digging that cockpit view. One thing Harley does better is the finish of say items like the inner fairing and controls, that gloss black on their inner fairing of the Roadglide special looks really high end. If Indian upped their game in that dept it would be a perfect bike. Perhaps its the colors they chose but it gives it more of a cheaper, plastic look. A minor gripe though for sure.
To be honest I believe the sound your hearing is the shocks hitting the top of there hight,or possibly...sounds like pree detonation in the pistons but I doubt that, can't really tell
Anyone know what the song was that was playing when he switched to 101 around 10:43? Good song lol, but didn’t get any of the lyrics Edit: SoundHound picked it up, it’s Monsters by Shinedown
So wish u realised like I did that it looked like u were riding a star wars speeder bike with how smooth it sped up and changed lanes and stuff almost looks like u weren't in touch with the ground
It's funny he mentioned the engine heat. Some people complain, I've had mine for 1300 miles now, the engine stays WAYYY cooler than the thunderstrokes.
Not something you can learn from a test ride but your Bluetooth headset, such as Sena will connect to the bike as well. I love that I don’t have to pay extra for that, but I feel like the speakers on the Indian is better than the sound produced on my previous Road Glide. When at highway speeds I had to have RG radio maxed out, on my 19 Chieftain I have only gone up to volume level 6.
Seriously looking at this bike! I have a 1993 Harley FLSTN and I just wrapped up a ride from SoCal to Spokane, WA and boy did it wear me out! That rigid mount engine made everything hurt. And the air-cooled engine had a hell of a time keeping speed going through the Mohave desert, up through Nevada, and into eastern OR and WA. I have ALWAYS been a HD guy, but they need to step up their game and put that new water-cooled engine they have in the PanAmerican into the rest of their line-up. If not... my next bike will be Indian.
Most likely that noise is the twin throttle body setup is not vacuum synced. That is one of the issues that Indian was having during assembling the motors. Not all the dealers go the memo on how to synchronize the dual throttle body setup. Maybe the bags on the challenger are big enough for your work commute........😄
Gotta chieftain darkhorse and coming from streetglide is like night and day difference. Adjustable windshield, power locking bags, an awesome suspension. I put some kst bars and some tab slip ons with the zombie baffles and it sounds better than a harley
Those speakers look ginormous lol I'd say. That's one smooth looking bike for sure. Harley better keep stepping up. Nice thought about the storage compartment, opening top down might help keep stuff from falling out too. Radio sounded nice, for sure. Looks like it would be a tough call between this and a Road Glide or SG.
Nice review Blockhead. I guess the throttle issue is to be expected, I mean it is a bagger. I'm guessing it would be an awesome bike to talk on long road trips! 1:20 "when you compare with the other bike" hmmm, what bike could he be talking bout? :)
Indian and Harley making solid American scoots. Buy whichever floats your boat, guys. I’m fortunate enough to have a Fatboy 30th and a Indian Scout. Wouldn’t give up either...
The windshield makes everything look clearer. Is it polarized? If I could afford the payments would trade my 2011 Road Glide Ultra for one in a heartbeat. It’s well designed and modern.
I'm a Road Glide owner and I'm not "stuck" to Harley. The challenger seems awesome and definitely my favorite non-Harley bike out there but I would not consider buying on until there's an Indian dealership closer than 2 hours away. I live .7 miles from Roanoke Harley. The people are great, service is great, i like the harley apparel and style, all Harleys I've owned have been amazing. No reason for me to switch up yet... hmmm maybe I should do a video on that lol
The noise you herd was the rear cylinder reengaging it shuts down when you stop or if your in stop and go traffic you can disengage it in the touch screen Block do such great reviews I would like to see a good one on the 2020 Springfield dark horse compared to Harley road king special .
Yes the bugbears are the same: get rid of lacklustre throttle response in standard mode. But that would be something to be fixed by aftermarket. And yes its too quiet but its a standard bike. That would be next mod. You didnt answer the question. Would YOU buy one?

@@millinutz I know a few Harley to Indian riders who are super happy, and I have two HD buds who are about to make the switch, and a few others thinking about it. It seems to me like Indian is converting Harley riders left and right lately.
I just demo ride this bike yesturday and coming from a Kawasaki concours rider i can tell you that i was blown away by the torque of the bike power and comfort if i had the money (because yes the price on this bike is steep for me 35,000 can) but if i ever buy another bagger this bike beat the Harley road glide for me great video bro. ride safe
Another great American built motorcycle to choose from, great ride, and review. Be safe, have fun!
I'm in no way into baggers but I can absolutely appreciate this, if I had to choose one this would be it!
When I was a little kid I rode a “Big Wheel” the handlebars reminded me of that at full lock ! I was having a Dejavoo moment ! 🤣
The Indian Scout Bobber has grown on me, I think I'm going to get the Bobber instead of iron 883.
If I'm not mistaken, that metal clack sounds like it's the butterfly opening and closing on the throttle body.
Nice looking bike! I am a Harley guy and can’t see myself changing over. But Indian did well with this bike. My only complaint is all of features I am more of a plain Jane bike owner.
Great vid Blockhead. Every vid that you do, I gain so much more knowledge on bikes. Keep up the great work!!!
Side by side, and class by class, I don’t think there’s any modern Harley model that I would spend my money on over any of the modern Indian models.
12:34. That sound is the intake sucking in air through it’s cleaner....when u get on it u hear that sound
He was murdered by the Hells Angels. .
Thanks for this review. I've been considering this ride to replace my Harley.
Do it l traded my 2017 RG in for one l don't regret it one bit
The handle bars are like that because that’s how the victory vision tour’s was. It’s the same bike. Only differences Indian body and bigger engine.
Thank you for the vid, this bike will definitely be in the running to replace my 2014 HD Road King.
I would have to leave it in sport mode all the time, having that much idle throttle would drive me insane!
yeah, I could NOT deal with that. it'd drive me nuts.
Love those Indian motorcycles!
They just keep getting better and better!👍
Indian!!! 😍... I've always liked Indians. Never really did care much for H-D. Victorys are nice too. The Dark Horse version of Indian are my favorite.
Most likely that noise is the twin throttle body setup is not vacuum synced. That is one of the issues that Indian was having during assembling the motors. Not all the dealers go the memo on how to synchronize the dual throttle body setup. Maybe the bags on the challenger are big enough for your work commute........😄
I love all bikes but you finally rode and found out one of the best bikes out there😉
Gotta chieftain darkhorse and coming from streetglide is like night and day difference.
The bars some guys like them even more back some say it’s to far away lol 😊 I guess everyone has what they like in bar feel . Super nice vid man
Brother, this is one nice bike. Now i am in limbo between this one and the HD Street Glide.
Beautiful bike. I'm glad Polaris went with Indian they are putting a lot of work into their bikes
I like the sound of that motor!
That 'dying' feeling at the stop was probably the front cylinder deactivating for heat management. Takes some time to get used to
I'm a Road Glide owner and I'm not "stuck" to Harley.
Absolutely love this bike. It will be my next bike for sure. But I still love my chieftain!
The noise you herd was the rear cylinder reengaging it shuts down when you stop or if your in stop and go traffic you can disengage it in the touch screen
Block do such great reviews I would like to see a good one on the 2020 Springfield dark horse compared to Harley road king special .
The dash layout reminds me of more of the goldwing. But it is a cool bike. If I was looking for a full dresser I would look at one.
Hate to say it but when it's time I'm getting rid of my road glide for one of these
Can you even see where you going with all that accessories in front?
Love the blacked out look
Yes the bugbears are the same: get rid of lacklustre throttle response in standard mode. But that would be something to be fixed by aftermarket. And yes its too quiet but its a standard bike. That would be next mod. You didnt answer the question. Would YOU buy one?
Man come on! I want that so bad now! What a ride!
It’s a cool looking bike with some nice features. I’m just more of a fan of the Harley Davidson styling. Now the FTR I could get down on though.
I gotta have one of Those! Love the windscreen!
