Lol I liked the little rant about the glass breaker that was funny…….. I have to be honest tho- the last video on my list- the Kershaw end game review… I have to say it was very hard hearing my favourite knife connoisseur basically trash talk my second favourite Kershaw knife 😅🥹
He rants about a knife not having a tiny extra glass breaker "Thank you! For the love of God!" than he finds himself wanting to break glass to save himself or someone and doesn't have a glass breaker. Why on earth would someone have a problem with a tiny glass breaker on a blade... Good Lord...
@@metal_complex When you think you speak for the masses, you are greatly mistaken. I have had to use glass breakers in two different careers for emergency purposes. Rarely, but I have used them. The 1st time, I didn't have a breaker and it's not a simple task at all. The difference of a few seconds can make the difference between living or dying. Do you know how hard it is to break through glass without one? I can tell you right now breaking glass especially from the inside of a vic, is extremely hard and most people are not even capable of doing so when a car door will not open after a collision and the only egress option is out through the window. I mean; why not have it? Because people do not like how it looks? How ridiculous. People (Most civilian pukes) are generally tool-bags. They will buy something because it looks 'tacticool' vs buying something that is practical.
No glassbreaker, no stupid proprietary screws that require special tools, no inflated price because of a name, no unnecessary and gaudy designs... just pure function and quality for a good price. Kershaw nailed it, imo.
Kershaw is my favorite knife company. They make high quality knives for the working man. My favorite Kershaw is the Kershaw link 20cv. $85 for 20cv and made in USA. Also has better steel then a house Ritter rsk in the same steel
I just ordered the last one Blade ops had, and I do t have any microtech or other fancy knives like that, but I was really looking forward to getting a knife that Doesn’t look like the same Chinese crap!
Got mine in the mail today and I can not agree more. This blade feels good, looks good and I'm totally satisfied. Kershaw did there home work and hit a home run here.
Just now, I found out about this Kershaw U.S.A. OTF and began watching multiple reviewers of this knife. So far, you are the only reviewer I have seen so far, that addresses blade play. Thanks for letting us know it's equal to Microtech's Ultratech.
Bro black tanto blur partially serrated was my first good pocket knife too! Thought its was cheap chinese 8cr like their other knives. 20+ years later I start watching Knife videos like ur channel. Pull knife back out loose n both directions, dull. Took apart bent lock bar, cleaned n oiled, sharpened . Notice that it is usa made n goid steel. Now solid and hair shaving again, what a journey. Even hid this one in a bush at Statue of Liberty 🗽 while taking tour. It started it all.
I deaf kid sold me a beat up black blur tanto when I was in the weld shop about 12 years later I still have it. Only thing I’ve had to do is replace the torsion spring assist and that was free from Kershaw. Honestly I can’t even figure out why the kid sold it to me. It must have been he hated trying to sharpen it. We were all 16 year old kids haha. Still have it and still keep it in the car. Old reliable. Now I have the stone wash drop point S30V blur and it’s my daily carry at work. And soon the livewire will be!
I own both an Ultratech and the Livewire. The build quality is equal to the Mircotech. But, I like the action on the Livewire better. The blade on the Livewire has a better primary grind and edge geometry for cutting, than the Ultratech. I believe the Livewire to be a superior cutting tool. I love this knife. The only negative I can think of is the texture of the anodization makes it a bit difficult to remove from the pocket. And I mean a bit. However, it provides a some welcome traction in the hand when using the knife.
Big microtech fan here. I love the microtech otf models and have had very good experiences with all the microtechs I’ve owned, however after picking this bad boy up I am proud to say that it’s ended up surprising me with how well Kershaw has made their otf. Hopefully it stands up to the test of time as good as my microtechs have.
I just got a utx-85 dual edge and am really disappointed with it. The action is so stiff its almost unusuable. Also, one side of the blade is so dull i can saw my palm with it. For the money I paid I expected a lot more.
Have owned 3 microtechs, one broke the first week, another won't open, lol, you can keep your microtech. I have 2 piranha Excaliburs, never had to use oil or take apart and they fire flawlessly even after 10 years.
I paid $210 for mine, preordered from a Kershaw guy I've ordered from many times before. Ended up with a sub 0100 serial number. Currently my favorite carry knife. Wish I'd bought two. My wife wants one now.
Absolutely gorgeous. Love the review, and I am sick of the glass breakers too. And good point about the price, at first I thought wow that's the most expensive kersh I've ever seen. But it is a style that is in a higher starting price bracket than other types of knives. Keep up the good work MC!
Bought the new tanto black blade (magnacut), grey handle Livewire. It has not left my pocket since that day. The ease of throw, the blade geometry, the comfort of the handle simply makes this knife amazing. Kershaw hit a homerun with this American made gem.
Finally an OTF that I wanted to purchase. Kershaw is knocking it out of the park and the magna cut steel is just icing on the cake. And yes, the pocket clip can be reversed and it is perfect. My only suggestion and this is purely cosmetic, would be if the blade was high polish it would be absolutely stunning. For what it's worth, I bought mine for less than 230. Standing ovation for Kershaw. They did it!
I’ve got six blurs. No regrets. Ordered this knife in the flat dark earth tonight. Great video. Also…addicted to my other new knife… spyderco military 2.
I'm similar to you - my first "serious" EDC was a Kershaw - the Leek (Ken Onion design) in fact. I've tried other EDCs, and I still carry a Leek to this day. However I've been wanting an OTF, and now that this is out I've already ordered one. I'm really looking forward to it.
Same here, ordered this one today! I’m very curious if I will make this my edc or more of a special occasion kind of knife. But if I’m dropping $239, I’m planning on having it on me everyday, hopefully it can handle to abuse 😅
Hi knife guy. Great overview. You are on top of your game today. Informative. I’m not an OTF guy but I watched the whole overview I root for USA knives. And you are hilarious with the other persons voice. Have a great day.
I got the Livewire and am really impressed with how solid it is when extended and how well the movement works. It’s my first otf and probably my only. I get more use from my Boker Kalashnikov’s automatics. They look more like regular knives and tend to not freak people out. lol.
I’ve had mine for several weeks and I’m still very impressed with it. Way better than the Ultratech i had. I also had a GT 035 and it was great. It is very close between the GT and Livewire. But I’d pick the Livewire if i was buying a new otf. Mainly because of price i paid $210.
I really think Kershaw knocked it out of the park with their first otf . I feel that looking at sum of all parts . Materials, quality, fit and finish put it solidly in second behind the GT 035 .and ahead of the ultratech in 3rd now and the axial shift in 4th . For my money.
I’m not really a fan of OTF’s in general (other than the microtech cypher 🥵) but this is actually really impressive. Bravo Kershaw. This is a pretty good year in knives already. This, the MSI, and Protech brings back the full size Rockeye and a bigger SNG. Hell yeah man. And to think it’s only February, what’s gonna come out at Blade? I’m stoked.
Flipping that pocket clip to the other side would lend the same pocket advantage to lefties as the current placement does for righties. It's an excellent design.
Kershaw blackout was the first knife I bought circa 98/99. I've owned at least a dozen since. They lost me in the past decade or so with speed safe, Chinese made and meh designs. Hopefully they continue on this new path.
Would like very much to see an updated review with the Kershaw switch to Magnacut from 20CV, with some discussion on why they made that change. Just saying...because I trust your opinion.
I know everyone doesn’t like the glass breaker and I respect that. I wish that it was a add on option so that everyone could have it both ways. There was just a dash cam video of a officer crashed into a pursuit vehicle. He had a microtech I believe that he used to cut the airbag out of the way and used the glass breaker to bust the window so they could exit the vehicle.
Ultratech fan here. Looks like a great knife and can't wait to handle one! Probably gonna wait it out til they might start making different blade types. That's one reason I'd rather an ultratech. I have specific taste for what blade I'm carrying. I don't mind the glass break or pocket clip lol. Clip actually helps the knife have a better fit in my hand when using it which I like about it.
My first OTF was the Benchmade Infidel that I got on sale for $450. It stopped working after 6 months but they have great customer service. They fixed it and I was excited to get it back. I sold it right away and bought my Microtech Ultratech tactical double edge blade with the “glass breaker” that I like! I’ve carried it as my EDC for a year now and Love it! I have Kershaw knives too; Leek, small Ken Onion, & a “Lucha” Balisong I carry daily too in my back pocket and you can’t beat their quality/price. I will buy a Livewire next just to add to my knives!#Microtech#Kershaw#Knife❤
I’ve always hated how cheesy the blades looked on OTF knifes and with the glass breaker they all look like gas station knives. The kershaw actually looks sleek and has an aesthetically appealing design.
Yeah absolutely with the first knife thing, my first one I bought was a mini grip all blacked out combo sheep’s foot blade in 154cm because I thought it was cool. Turned out to still be able to pull weight in my collection. My first knife I actually carried was some no name el cheapo tactical thing with orange real tree camo.
I really like the blade shape. Only thing that would have made this cooler was if they were able to get the hardware on the clip side instead of the show side. Ordering one right now, I even remembered to use your link.
My first knife was a Gerber FAST Draw. I lucked out as well as mine broke in SO well and still has a kick. It was serrated too, which I now hate but w/e lol.
Metal complex please make a mock-up pocket apparatus to where you can show the knife going into a pocket and how it looks and functions while being in the pocket
Never understood why people hate on Kershaw.. they make really nice USA made knives that are at the right price point. Their Launch series are excellent automatics so I’d assume the OTF they’ve made is just as good. In reality if kershaw had a worse business plan and only made high end knives for an ultra premium price, people would talk like they are Microtech or Reeves….. oh wait, ZT Knives
I like this! I have a few Kerhaws that are totally worth having around. I'm not interested in more aluminum scaled knives 🤷 this model looks slick still
Never was really interested in an OTF, but I kinda want one of these. Only other one I have interest in is an Axial because I saw a video showing how theyre made.
I've been loving mine, in the current market brand new the only competitive choice would be the axial. Price wise at least, ultratech is about 100 dollars more... so yea.
I returned their push button auto Launch 7. Horrible button. I took a chance on their Livewire in Magnacut. HUGE difference. Night and day. I will be keeping the Livewire and it is a steal at their price.
If I lived in a free state I would have this in my pocket right now. I have had many Kershaw knives over the years and have had less problems than other brands. They are an incredible value. We must also take into consideration that other countries do not recognize intellectual property rights and have almost no labor standards and think to ourselves, are we really getting a value or are they taking advantage of the situation to make more profit. Consider the market right now being flooded by sub $30 folders with g10 handles and D2 blades. Those same quality knives used to hover around the $50-60 range. It’s hard for an American company to compete in a market like that and make enough profit to maintain quality and pay for overhead while still trying to innovate and bring to market new product.
I don't own an OTF yet. This will be my first one. When I can afford it 😆 I, too, own a tanto serrated Blur. Because I am a ninja. And it's just a great knife. No shame.
Just ordered this as my first OTF, I feel you on putting that much towards a knife. I’ve been dreaming about owning an OTF for over a year. It will only make it that much better you you’re in a spot to buy one. Proud of you @selander3D 🙌🏼
@@nufmedia9035Congrats on the order, that's awesome man!👍Appreciate the props big time! I'll get mine soon enough, just gota be patient to save and stop buying all the nice budget knives out there first 😆
Jump to 2024 and Kershaws Livewire is without question the best value for money in the OTF industry🏆BladeOps is selling a blacked out variant with magnacut DLC coated blade for $220. Livewire utilizes a dual spring mechanism or what the hardons at Microtech would refer to as “drivetrain”😂
I hope we can see you review the CRKT Hogue made knives that came out recently, I find the price on them to be way too high, compared to the other Hogue made knives like the Deka, Doug Ritter, and K320.
I don't know why everybody is complaining about the price I got mine for under 190 and that was at release just do a little price shopping folks and you'll be fine
I got 5 of these in a overstock box i bought from a dealer. Ill be selling them at the next gunshow unless someone buys them 1st. I got such a good deal that id be happy to be get $100 ea out of them. Thanks for the review. Looks great
I would love to buy one of these, but the sellers won't send me one unless I falsely certify that I'm military or LEO, or have only one arm. Am I missing something?
I bought this knife as soon as it was available. For the money it is awesome! I have no reason to buy a Microtech anything. Except maybe a SOCOM. Do they even still make those?
I LOVE LOVE LOVE, as much as you maybe even that it doesn't have a glass breaker...a useless glass breaker. The blade shape is AWESOME and this is so much going to eat MT's lunch. Now just make a smaller UTX-85 sized one please. Also no proprietary screws.
I'm very impressed with mine (although it had a terrible sharpening job from the factory).. Between this knife and Guardian Tactical I'll never buy another Microtech OTF
Good looking knife. Happy they didn't slap the ZT logo on it, probably would have jumped the price 150 or so. Might buy this one. Great deal for the materials IMO.
What if we just didn’t put a cliche of a glass breaker ? Love a more low key profile. All you were missing was the “Mmmk.” From South Park principal haha. Great video. Thanks

the livewire is the best value otf on the market right now in my opinion, especially in magnacut.
Mine had trouble deploying but warranty fixed it fast. No hassles
I bought a Launch from bhq, before jan1, I live in pa…..just saying
Ps love the launch, but am getting this .
Just got the blade hq Exclusive, geez I'm in love!
Great Comparison! I have One coming and USA Kershaw's are Awesome 👍
I don't own an OTF yet. This will be my first one. When I can afford it 😆
I, too, own a tanto serrated Blur.
I'll get mine soon enough, just gota be patient to save and stop buying all the nice budget knives out there first 😆
This looks like a great build from Kershaw! I'm surprised they didn't brand it as a ZT. Did you ever get the S110V ZT 0562?
Do they own ZT?
@@tyarnold4088 yes. Kershaw and ZT are both brands under the KAI umbrella. They also have a line of kitchen knives branded as KAI.
Kershaw is killing it right now
I got 5 of these in a overstock box i bought from a dealer. Ill be selling them at the next gunshow unless someone buys them 1st. I got such a good deal that id be happy to be get $100 ea out of them. Thanks for the review. Looks great
Love to see a comparison between this and the axial shift. I have a 1st gen axial shift wharncliff and I love it.
I would love to buy one of these, but the sellers won't send me one unless I falsely certify that I'm military or LEO, or have only one arm. Am I missing something?
now available in MagnaCut & Ultem top
I bought this knife as soon as it was available. For the money it is awesome! I have no reason to buy a Microtech anything. Except maybe a SOCOM. Do they even still make those?
I LOVE LOVE LOVE, as much as you maybe even that it doesn't have a glass breaker...a useless glass breaker. The blade shape is AWESOME and this is so much going to eat MT's lunch. Now just make a smaller UTX-85 sized one please. Also no proprietary screws.
I’m still in love with my Hogue Counterstrike
Your Mr. Mackie voice is on point MC 😂
Kershaw brought the price under the Ultratech and that’s pretty cool.
You’re fuckin hilarious man you got yourself a new subscriber😂your review helped a lot! just bought one of these today with the tanto blade🙌
$200-$240 all day depending on which version you fancy. That’s a steal.
The Dr.Phil clip description had me rolling
My first EDC knife was the Kershaw GRID. Now I own a shit ton of kershaws. Mostly USA made knives.
I'm very impressed with mine (although it had a terrible sharpening job from the factory).. Between this knife and Guardian Tactical I'll never buy another Microtech OTF
Cant wait for mine to show up!
Just ordered mine in olive green heck yeah!!!
Thanx for videos. We all know by now u don't like lanyard holes and glass breakers. Imagine some viewers do like them.
Just bought the Magnacut version from SMKW. Waiting on it now.
This thing looks awesome. And kershaw makes great knives
Good looking knife. Happy they didn't slap the ZT logo on it, probably would have jumped the price 150 or so. Might buy this one. Great deal for the materials IMO.
Yesssss...I already own a glass breaker and it's in the holster.
Good review. I'm a USA Kershaw fan.
What if we just didn’t put a cliche of a glass breaker ? Love a more low key profile.
All you were missing was the “Mmmk.” From South Park principal haha. Great video. Thanks
