Forget the new avionics, I really like your habit of speaking your checklists and procedures as if a DPE was sitting next to you. Very professional and very good habit. Love your videos!
I'm very excited to announce that I completed my first solo flight today! A very exciting day for me and another dream come true!
Awesome!
josh, really enjoy watching your videos...thanks always for taking me along...
Fantastic addition! Good job Josh
Sweet, the G5’s are pure awesomeness. Enjoy! Panel looking good.
Congrats on the upgrades! I cant wait to see what else you have planned for 80991!
Me to. I wonder if auto pilot will finally be installed .
I would like to say thank you for the great videos! I can't stop watching them. 👍
Man, it’s always great when you post new videos. Keep them coming. Awesome job. Congratulations on the new equipment.
Nice clean install of the G5s! We put a pair of them in the Tiger this last year and I finished my IFR rating with them. Great kit! You and your dad are going to enjoy those!
Nice! My favorite panel Steamy Glass!! I just finished an 1100 mile drive that started at 5AM so I'm a tad tired. But when I saw the notice of this video I got a little extra energy
Wow! That is an exciting set of upgrades. Things are certainly looking up for our aging fleet of GA planes.
Love your vids never flown before wish I could be just like you when I grow up
Love the G5 we have in our RV10, although we use it as a backup to the Dynon EFIS. Beautiful display
Installation of those instruments just improved your situational awareness ten fold!
Love how Josh explains things, I just get it right away.
Love the G5’s in our 172!
Thanks Josh, looking forward to the rest of the mods
You've done some very nice upgrades to your instrument panel. Good to see another of your great videos. Keep them coming.
I did my IFR with dual G5s in a 172. It really makes a difference. The ground track (gps based) on the HSI makes wind corrections super simple.
This is the best video i have seen lately. Love to see the instruments up close, Great
Ha! I also trained in 67796 with my awesome instructor John P! Thanks for posting your flight - I enjoyed seeing the Austin/San Marcos area again from the air. I haven't flown in a couple of years.
I love how thorough you are, bro! Keep it up. Great content!
Really nice keep us informed with your 172!!!
Solid upgrade; I like the back-up capability!
I added a G5 DG/HSI about 6 months ago. I absolutely LOVE IT, but it definitely was a bit of a learning curve on instrument flights. I had a nice big heading bug on the old DG, and I find the one on the G5 a bit harder to use. Great tip on the magenta arrow to magenta diamond. Thanks!!!
nice upgrade. thanks for sharing.
Great new instrument, that was a great landing!
Got G5’s in all the warriors at my flight school. Absolutely love them! Literally everything you need is on the G5. The battery pack in them is an awesome backup too! Another tip, instead of scrolling the knob to get the heading bug on your current direction, just push and hold the button for about 2 seconds. It will move it to your current heading. Saves a bunch of scrolling! Also, save yourself some time by not says not saying “with information Indiana” I know it’s picky, but you can save some time by just using “80991 with Indiana” they know what information is current. Was told this by a retired Atlanta ATC guy.
Thank you for the video those Instruments are a big help and really like 172 Cessna
That twin at 1:54 was once Canadian and was a trainer for Toronto Airways out of Buttonville. Spotted the logo on the tail.
Nice
Great landing, and appreciate the details on your slap to landing. As a student, I still struggle with crosswind landings which we have constantly here in FL.
Aviation101 I recently had dual G5s installed in my 172 . i would suggest having them flush mounted. It makes the panel look even cleaner
amazingly fast take off! great video!
Great crosswind landing!
Nice crosswind landing !
The new avionics looks good 👍🏻
Thank You for showing me how well your new G-5’s perform in your 172. Especially in bright sunlight. That’s something I really needed to see. I am having the same identical set up installed in my Cessna 150L. Along with a GNX-375 to operate them. I was really worried about Glare. From your Video it appears to be no problem. Thanks again.
Another great video
you are the best online flight instructor... so descriptive... very caring
i love very one of your videos and appreciate what you share with us here
thank you
Congrats on the upgraded panel and all that will come in the future
This is the first video of you I have watched in about 9 months. Josh! You have really upped your presentation skills and I love it! Surprised you don't have more subscribers! Cheers!
wonderful crosswind landing...congrats...new gear looks perfect...your instrument approaches will be more confident...
U inspire me so much josh
Everything looks so much nicer in 4K :)
Another awesome flight thank you
Great call on removing the vac system. That’s why I installed the G5 in the Mooney. Still debating on removing the KI55a HSI for the G5 HSI.
Very informative! Keep them coming.
I always feel good after watching your videos.
‘Howdy’ from N Dallas just east of KADS!
Enjoyed the vid! Keep ‘em coming!
I live in South Kyle and see Cessnas all the time over my backyard, I'll look out for you!
learn something new everytime I watch you!
Great videos!
I really enjoy your videos and always learn so much. Thank you!
Great job, getting into the whole aviation thing.Keep up the great videos.
Another great video Josh, looking for a “older” 172, but now I see that the upgrades are available>
so underrated! deserve more sub for that buttery landing! Keep up the fantastic content Josh!
lol it's wild coming back to this after checking out 991 at OSH'23!
Love the mix of steam gauges and glass, I'd like my planes panel to be like that. When you get your experimental you can put whatever you'd like in it without the complicated paperwork (and extra cost).
Awesome vid Josh
Dude-you are just awesome! When I grow up, I want to be just like you!!!!
But I'm used to the old avionics and I've been away for 20 years and just returning. Your video IFR to 400 ft was excellent and used the older technology . . thanks for making it. JPR
...great upgrades...and a great landing....nothing like flying sideways in the wind...
Great video!! 👍
Great video cant wait for your next one.
New avionics are too cool. Excellent cross wind landing! I have not flown since 2007 and wish you could come out to Napa, CA to help get me current .lol. Love your professionalism and demeanor.
@Aviation101 Great panel I am only 15 and I want to be an airline pilot for delta Airlines, I attend West Michigan Aviation Flight Academy and One of these days it would be very cool to bring you through a tour through the school and get to see 991 in person keep up the good Videos.
G5’s are great. I have dual installed in my plane with GTN 750 and garmin autopilot.
Very nice as always Josh! Actually my favorite part of this video was your crosswind landing...text book sir! I am getting back into flying after 30 years and I really enjoy your videos. I know they are not instructional in nature but just following the flow of your cockpit work is really helpful giving me great ideas on mental reminders (red, blue, green runway’s clean...love it). Keep up the great work!
I'm doing the same after 30 years and it does help a lot listening to his professional approach to flying. Thanks Josh
Gee you guys, I’m trying to do it after 40 years and it would be great to hear how that is going?
Another great information video.
Too cool
Bought one
Installs Thursday
excellent video and congrats on upgrade off the avionics Sr. great channel.
It's amazing you were rotating at the 500 foot marks, that's so short
Did my private on steam gauges and instrument on G1000. Hope you are enjoying those G5’s and look forward to seeing more upgrades in the future. Would love to fly with ya when I pass through Texas from Louisiana!
Cool upgrades
First comment in two years, but glad to discover this channel and to subscribe. My rental fleet just added a Garmin 3GX system and I started to look at the tutorials, but the amount of visual information is too much for me. I just was introduced to the G5 in 2 172s and really like them. The dual G5 set up seems ideal for me, not too much information but just the right amount. The 172 I will be flying has a single G5 integrated with a GTN 750 which I am learning. I echo the comments below that I really like the constant use of checklists and oral repeats of checklist items. This type of professionalism is what I aspire to and transfers from acft to acft. Look forward to more videos.
Tip: If you hold the button down on the HSI the heading bug will go to current heading.
Jon Funanich same with Alt. on the AI
Nice dude. G5’s!! I use planes in MO at St Charles Flying Service that have them. Totally nice for a great price point.
Enjoy your new panel and autopilot when it arrives!
Have the AI and HSI G5’s also. Love them. Great choice
The difference between a man and a boy, the price of his toys. Great upgrade!
Oooh!! New toys. I am jealous 😝
Love this vide, brings me back to being humble, instead of buying brand new plane, i've been looking at a 1978 c172, seeing the glass and being IFR certified puts my mind ease that i do not have to spend more than 300K Australian for a plane to get from A to b
Another great video Josh. My only complaint is that they are not long enough. Love the new kit and can't wait to see the auto pilot put to use. Get 9981 back in the air and post more of these great videos....See you in the air. :)
Nice video man.
Very nice.
I really appreciate your thorough nature, your exquisitely articulate speech and pronunciation and your confidence. Most flight instruction vids skimp on information and have blurred or bragging speech. I have only games and simmed (Xplane11 mobile); lessons, ground school or even a full desk top setup are not in my budget these days, but I watch your vid and think-this is the kind of teacher I’d like to have. I am currently living and working in Japan and not a young man (53 1/2). Where-if recommendable, would you aim to study if you were me and you thought it advisable-if you don’t mind? If you haven’t time, no loss of respect. Thank you and keep it coming, please. Aces, bro. (I’m an ESL teacher; you’re a great instructor.)
You're not kidding about the availability of new tech. I've been eyeing both a Garmin G500 and GTN 750 for the old Centurion.
Love those cooler days with a nice stiff headwind on t/o. I've had days that I've hit pattern altitude before I've gotten to the end of the runway.
Love all your videos, sir! The glass instruments make the others look so dated :D
Gonna get spoiled with that autopilot, lol... Great upgrades Josh.
Nice,I want one set of that avionics
Josh, I like those new Garmin's. Those should help make flying more fun. All the best and fly safely!!! (Old Biker Guy)
Ahhh old N566ND formerly known as Sioux 66 up at KGFK has flow away from the North Dakota winters to retire down in sunny Texas for good. She flew best at 2550 Rpm fast lean and hot was her favorite on the cold days in North Dakota
Pretty sharp.
Very nice landing. I didnt think you had that kind of winds. if you ever come up to KIBM let me know!
Sure is a lot different then how I learned to fly in the 80's. A lot more tools now to make it safer.
On your G5 AI you can use the altitude select as a visual cue for assigned altitude or minimums by pressing the knob and scrolling across. It works perfectly as a reminder and will even flash when approaching altitude from 1000’+/- and 200’. If you add a Garmin auto pilot, this is how you would feed it info. Look on pages 100-101 of your G5 manual for specifics.
Congrats on the shiny new toys! Happy thanksgiving, too! ;)
Hey, come to Little Rock, AR and take me flying! I love to fly!
We only have 1x G5 so far (with panel modifications so that the second will drop right in). Love it so much.
Time to ditch the Dynon :)
Nice one
Most impressive part of your avionics...your clock works?! Amazing :-D
Hey that 566ND I've flown in! Thats an old UND 172 that we just sold off not too long ago
Really hoping you get the GFC500; I think we'd all love a long video of you running it through its paces, including the flight envelope protection.
