    3:00 That is a perfect example of good radio communication! I love it when everyone in the pattern is courteous of others and coordinates their intentions properly. Happy landings and VFR weather!

    Very Nice. I have the dual G5 setup in a Debonair and removed the entire vacuum system. Love not having to worry about a vacuum failure in IMC.

    • @310Pilot

      I agree Tim...loving it so far and vacuum failures won't leave you partial panel during IMC! In my case I will always have to keep the pumps as they drive my de-ice boots.

    The ATC reminded me of when I was a student pilot and had to really think about exactly what they were saying... except the shoe is on the other foot here.
    She’ll get better... soon, we hope

    Have to make another comment here, it has to do with the props and “synch” issue. That is the one thing I enjoy the most on your 310 is listening to those props on climb and cruise, wether they are synched or not, it has a sound I enjoy ! Your plane has its own “twin sound” I must say ! One video you have where you can really tell the “synched” issue is when you flew to a Sunday breakfast alone

    • @310Pilot
      @310Pilot  6 лет назад

      Glad you're enjoying watching and listening to us! I generally keep the props sync'ed well but some of the minor deviations are hard for me to hear as the noise canceling on my headsets is really really good. :)

    I really enjoy watching your videos. Thanks for putting in the hard work to make them so presentable. I am in the process of putting a G5 in my Mooney but I have held off a bit as I have heard several comments about the narrower view of the Attitude due to the readings on either side. I would love your perspective. I am a former 310 driver and heading back that way in a couple years. Thanks again

    • @VaughnDavisTV
      @VaughnDavisTV 5 лет назад

      Hey mate, I have twin G5s in my Arrow and haven't had any issues at all with the PFD having a narrow attitude display, flown a year or two IFR with it. It packs a lot of info in ... heck of a gauge. My HSI one has just been installed and at first glance the compass rose seems small but time will tell!

    Hello again Kevin, thank you for responding to all my public comments. When I see one of your video’s in my “In Box” I always think okay another great flight in the 310 ! Okay, even though I like Jamie along as co-pilot(who doesn’t) I like the solo flights with you because I know things will be a little different. Boy were they, whew ! G-5 equipment was outstanding, plane sounded great at idle before takeoff and during flight( good bye rough runway) then things got rough with ATC in the air, first time I heard that with you, thank god your superb on the radio with ATC. I like how you visually are always looking for other planes and I’m sorry but that female ATC gal on the radio made me nervous, she must have had a bad nite. It was also just plain busy on the radio and you sure had to focus on that ! Still another great but different kind of flight with you, looking forward to next video, I already know why Jamie is holding her head for the caption, talk to you again after I see it

    I've been flying for over 55 years now. Good video except I never saw you use a CHECKLIST AT ALL on any segment of your flight. If you did use one, you would have seen it say PROPS FULL FORWARD AND MIXTURE RICH ON LANDING. Yep you did verify that the gear was down with the 3 green callout. My father taught me how to fly and I started learning with him at 6 years old and was fully capable of flying at 12, had to wait another 5 years for my license. I can honestly tell you that the SECOND MOST HIGHLY DECORATED MARINE FIGHTER PILOT IN HISTORY taught me and the most important thing he always drilled into my head at a young age was CHECKLISTS, CHECKLISTS, CHECKLISTS and you will never have a problem. I now have close to 34,000 hours of flight time in 55 years of flying myself and have NEVER HAD AN ACCIDENT, INCIDENT or VIOLATION with the FAA in all those hours..... PLEASE USE YOUR CHECKLISTS ALWAYS.........

    If you put a SD card in the G5 it will record a lot of data that allows you to upload to Cloud Ahoy app and replay/analyze your flight.
    Of course it has a flight log history too. (or at least it does on the experimental version)

    We also encountered that smog on our way to Oshkosh. It smelled like someone was having a barbeque. It turned out to be smoke from fires in Canada.
    Something I've noticed in all your videos is that you key the mike and start talking as soon as you switch frequency. Perhaps that is something you have to do in that busy airspace just to get a word in edgewise, but I was always taught to switch frequency and LISTEN before keying the mike. You’re less likely to step on someone that way.

      I agree about the traffic and G5's Darin....love them. Your plane is going to be sweet with the new TXi and STEC 3100! I didn't get the flight stream. In addition to the dual G5's, I waas'ed the 530, installed a GTX345 and Insight Twin G4. I just picked it back up from the shop where I had the heater re-installed after the AMOC/Overhaul and they pulled my GMX200/radar display and installed an EX500 that will do both. Looking forward to getting my STEC 3100 installed in the near future!!!

    Noticed at the 12:34 mark that the G5 altimeter reads 3030’ and the 3 pointer reads 2800’. Is it normal for this kind of discrepancy or perhaps one wasn’t set the same as other?

    • @310Pilot

      It looks like 3030' and 2980' to me. I didn't have the old one on 30.01 it was on 30.00. They are usually within 40 feet or less of each other.

    • @310Pilot

      Marina, no...the G5 flight directer is disabled by STC and only gets turned on if you get their GFC500 autopilot from my understanding. I'm going to find out if the new STEC 3100 will drive the FD or not.

    Does your autopilot coupled to the heading bug on the G5 DG? We are possibly looking doing this upgrade but was holding off as the last thing I read about the G5 DG was that the heading bug couldn't be coupled. Nice setup in your 310.

    • @310Pilot
      @310Pilot  6 лет назад +1

      They have a list of supported autopilots where (to my understanding) it will follow the heading bug. They accomplish this through the GAD29B I believe. That said, I had them pre-wire the HSI to easily accept an autopilot but not connect mine as I plan to upgrade that soon and didn't want to waste the time/money. My autopilot is a bit pitchy and I don't plan on spending a dime on it with all the new stuff hitting the market.

    • @310Pilot
      @310Pilot  6 лет назад +1

      Glad you are enjoying them Josh! I tap the brakes because it's in the POH. The reason is it stops the wheels from spinning before retracting the gear. If they are spinning fast the centrifugal force can make them expand and rub the bottom of the plane when trying to go up and in.

    In the audio it sounds like the engines oscillate a little is that the difference between the two engines rpm?

    • @tstanley01
      @tstanley01 6 лет назад

      Yes, all propeller driven twins do it. They will have a little indicator to tell you which one is running higher, and once you get a little altitude, you pull back the high revving motor to match. Some airplanes have prop sync that will keep them synced on their own.

    • @Bill_N_ATX
      @Bill_N_ATX 6 лет назад +1

      Justin Stanley , you have the same thing in multiple prop boats. If they are too far out of synch it can set up a beat frequency that sounds like someone is hitting the boat like drum.

    • @steviedandashleyc
      @steviedandashleyc 6 лет назад +1

      Justin Stanley I fly single engine and wondered about this on a twin but never looked it up. I figured there had to be some difference between the two engines. Thanks for explaining.

    • @310Pilot
      @310Pilot  6 лет назад

      CreekBoy, Justin explained it pretty well. Back when I used to instruct it will drive your ears absolutely crazy when the props are sync'ed correctly. I try to keep them sync'ed when flying in cruise and climb. During takeoff most twins will sound a little off as no two engines/props are perfectly exact. Of course with my lightspeed headsets sometimes I won't detect a very minor mismatch.

      I do. It's the original Cessna 400 IFCS. It worked great when I bought the plane but has since developed a bit of pitch oscillating.
