I don't quite understand how a brilliant channel like this gets less traction than others. It appears everything is similar but the quality of this one is clearly higher. Shame on the RUclips gods.
Well that was a terrifying episode. I was waiting for that control knob to roll off the bench, bounce once and go splash. You hit it with the file at one point and it rolled. Then after a cut, it was gone! What a relief to see you screw it back on, I could breath again. Maybe I'm just a jeopardy geek, but DON'T DO IT AGAIN!.....
Looks like Peter geeked out over Tally-Ho
Such a tease with the video cut
Would also be fun if Peter & Andrea made a visit to Aladino & Maya at Magic Carpet and Matt & Janneke at Duracell
God I love this episode of your ongoing MV Geordi work. Your skill at so clearly articulating what you’re doing and WHY you’re doing it is just brilliant. And I love the fact that your girlfriend is a part of the show now, though I do see a hint of slight disbelief on her face sometimes, like when you were geeking out on the ferry. But she’s so cute when she does that it’s very charming.
Folks, we Patreon supporters get to see Peter’s episodes a day early, on Saturdays. You may want to become a Patreon supporter to help with Peter’s many expenses and you can see his videos a day early too!
Those swoops look dead on along with the rest of your work! Keep up the good work ! Thank you for the inspiration!
and a guest appearance at the end for all the boat geeks out there too
very subtle!
Love it! Love it! Love it! Beer of the geek!
Yes, we like Andrea. Welcome aboard.
These two Boat Geeks are happy to tip a jar with you and Andrea anytime! Honored to be here!
In the bad old days (up into the 1960's) an upper station was rare and usually minimalist in smaller (less than 50') boats. The few designs were basically what you have right now, without any instruments, especially if the boat was a Northwest US or Canadian design. The plastic boat revolution brought in the "flying bridge" with all the accoutrements, center of gravity changes, etc. Years ago, there was a Canadian gentlemen, a proponent of wood boats maintaining their original design, who would inspect prospective members of his club. Additions such as an upper steering station with engine controls not in the original plans would disqualify the boat. He went so far as to deny prospective members that had radar, loran, radar reflectors, or marine TV antennas sprouting from the cabin top or flag mast. Needles to say someone in his group finally took away his clipboard and pencil before he chased away anymore prospective members. Love your show Peter! 😆
Love the very end with the peek at Leo’s project
I have never seen you struggle with something as much as that upper helm but you did come up with an idea. You do what ever you are comfortable with. It will all work out in the end. By the way, I like the new girl friend she is very pretty and as great of a person you are I think you are out classed. Enjoy your life I’ll be watching
The Victoria Clipper is awesome! Took a trip back to Seattle from Victoria back in early March. Was a great journey and stellar accommodations! Had plenty of time to enjoy several IPAs and some food.
Peter, on the topic of the upper helm. I think you just need to get a functional helm and get Geordie back to cruising and enjoying the boat. I think the art of the upper helm will come to you later.
Seeing your joy on the ferry showing Andrea what the crew doing reminded me of the time we took our daughter on the ferry to France for the first time.
Stay safe and we'll see you next week.
I have to admit to being a real GEEK for a very (very) brief moment at the beginning of the episode where you said the instruments would be intergrated with the windshield. I had this short lived mind view of the instrument readouts projected onto the windshield as in fighter planes and automobiles way to expensive for me. Then reality kicked in.
So happy for you Peter. It’s nice to see you with someone you care about . How did you meet?
I just love how Peter geeks out with his motorboat sounds ….
Blessed are the Geeks, for the shall inherit the Mirth.
change, Change, ... CHANGE 👀🤔👍🏻🥰🥰😎😎
Watching Peter geek out on the ferry was joyful
Peter, crazy idea...what about an upper tiller station? I think that would get rid of the boxy look and the curve of a tiller would go beautifully with the lines?
It takes Peter to point out the design feature common to Monk boats and a modern vehicular ferry!
What a perfect word of the week. I was just thinking as I watched this episode that I hope Andrea is going to survive being with one of the biggest wooden boat geeks on YT and not go stark, raving mad! Hang in there Andrea!!! I also wanted to mention that the scene with Frieda in it caught me off guard because she looked like a mini Geordie.
Loved the trailer walking by Leo's Tally Ho! That's another channel I geek out on! Sorry 'bout your nose scrape, it'll be fine soon. Your shipwright is a great addition to your episodes, not that you weren't entertaining on your own. cheers.
You dinnae have to be a boat geek to ken that it’s a bonnie six cylinder Gardner diesel 6LW. Our family fishing boats were both fitted with 6LXB.
That IS a nice swoop on Coho. I get it. I understand your enthusiasm for it.
Thanks for the Tally Ho peek. (when did they un-mount the rudder?)...
Well who has a skip in his Step and gĺint in his Eyes since the new Excutive Officer Andrea took Command and looks like she runs a tight ship. 😅😂 Great job on the bridge deck Helm Station 😊 looks smart and suit it,s position. 😊 Keep at it now. 😊
Peter the swoops look so good mate. I cant wait to see her full profile on the water when you’re done.
Geeking out is, in my wife’s opinion what I do when watching boat shows, I really flew my geek flag over the Rover issues.
Happy to count myself as a wooden boat geek and TWG my weekly fix!
yeah the ferry section I love it
Peter you apologised for doing a hack. Much of what you do is hack. You make it look easy and it's fun to watch. Must have been good to see Tally Ho in the flesh. I have encouraged Leo to make Victoria his first international stop, maybe during the shake down. Geordie and TH in the same shot would be geek heaven.
That helm is shaping up very well sir!
And a nice closing scene Peter, Tally Ho I assume?
After many years of watching geordie I'd have to admit being quite the geek every week
Moving the swoop to the rear of the pedestal will enlarge instrument area and move the wheel toward the helmsman and improves aesthetics
G is for Grateful, love your channel
E is for Enriching, bettering others
E is for Enthusiastic, ever encouraging
K is for Keen, abounding with enthusiasm
So nice to see all of these geeks who love boats. What a great community of passionate people! You all made my day!!!
I might be a boat geek. Seeing the Victoria Clipper brought back a flood of memories, some good, some bad. In the late 80's and all of the 90's I was sub contractor engine mechanic that maintained the engines on the Clipper I and Clipper IV. Spent a lot of nights trying to make sure the boats were ready to go in the morning.
I'm convinced that when you speak about boats.....its all Geek to me!!!!!
Great work Team Geordie !!
A truly inspired Scottish rendition from that one Boat Geek!
I love being a boat geek. Been one for 60 plus years. Cheers!
Nice to meet the boat geeks. I consider myself a tool geek, and I think you need a disclaimer at the beginning of your episodes to warn people not to free hand cut on a tablesaw. You seem very proficient at it, but others may not be. Great work on the console . Looking good!
Peter you are a boat geek. I mean this in the most respectful way.
I about geek-ed out when I saw this video.
I geek out everytime I see Peter.post.
Brilliant video. Thanks.
To my eye a brass tube pedestal would have looked fabulous.
Hi Peter, good to see you had a haircut and a bit of a trim up. It’s wonderful to have a lady in your life and they change your life forever good, the helmet looks fantastic. Keep up the good work from Australia
I, too, would be geeking out about the ferry and the rudder angle gauges!
Thanks for introducing me to the Boat Geeks!
Travels With Geordie is for us boat Geeks!
Love ya work Pete.
I believe we are all boat geeks here, Peter!
Great video, and it’s strange to see you have help with the carpentry!
Andrea seems to be a bit of a fashionista, more closets !
Ah man Peter! I wish I knew you were coming to PT, I am back on the hard getting ready to pull my engine and do a bunch more work on the boat.
Cheers 🍻
Cheers! from one boat Port Ludlow geek to another! I'm in a trailer in PL, studying at the NWSWB, and a friend of mine is moored at the PL Marina. Suddenly the world got very small, in the best way that only boat geeks could make it!
That swap meet would be fun, next year!!
LOL, complaints about pulsing a screwdriver?!?!? I believe some folks need to partake more of the beer of the week.
Great work Andrea but maybe keep the electric cable away from the heat source 😮
I am becoming more of a boat geek, too!
Geeked out for Sunday and Travels with Geordie!!!
With all the "Safety" precautions...
Why do I keep seeing angle grinders around the world on YT without the 12:42 disc guard.. that are on UK grinders.
Which...
think about it...
... a disc spinning at high speed that is designed to cut through metal fast..
if it touches you will do very permanent injuries.
btw I would have fibreglassed the deck under the helm and the swoops before fitting, especially when it's over the bed. 🐈
I commented on the driver a couple years back. Nice to finally get my due reward of being mentioned.
Fantastic entertainment Peter. The Boat geeks are awesome too.
While you were down there, did you say hi to Leo and Tallyho. Yours and his are my two favourite RUclips shows. OutSmart - The Fishing Pensioner
getting it done, thxs for sharing...your a lucky man
It's been extremely entertaining and informative 😊
I live in PA how Cool is that
Should the throttle lever move when the gear selector is operated? ;-)
A woman, a dog, and two boats. You've got everything a man needs for success. You've come a long way. Great job.
Peter looks a lot more cleaned up since Andrea.....
Hey, when it really comes down to it are we not all Geeks?
You forgot the fuel gauge when laying out the instruments.
Geeking on boats are the best way to spend time. Well…….. not quite……
awesome
What was the make of that diesel engine that was at the boat market and up for sale please?
Looks like a Gardner engine to me, which is the gold standard to many!
JIM 🎉
i like the idea with the curve but a little more
not retangular
how long did you geek out on Tally Ho - I saw the instagram shot! Great stuff finally getting the upper helm built out.
On the ferry, is that the nautical equivalent of painting Js on the highway?
Party geeks lol.😊
looks good but where is your compass going to be fitted ?
Let me start by saying I have no problem with the fact you’re going with the box for your steering column. But I was thinking, maybe something more like a parallelogram, sloping back similar to the angle of the windshield, mounting the axle of the steering mechanism, parallel to the top and bottom, and then cutting off that point closest to you making it a flat surface behind the wheel, or with a small angle up so that you’re instrument panel could come down over the top of it at an angle. It just would’ve been a different option than the arching or swooping column you were starting to design I would’ve just made straight lines to match the center post of the windshield but still be a box just one with an angle back. It would have given you a little more clearance for your fingers between the column and the wheel and for your shifter. But as I said, it’s just a thought I know you’ve already gone with the box and have it bolted in or at least screwed in and glued so it’ll work. I’m a big fan of it’s yours, so do it the way you want to.😀
Just a sidenote, love the hat your girlfriend is wearing at the auction, quite dashing.
All god's chilluns be Geeks.
I am very confused - Suddenly Andrea has appeared - What has happened to Lady Z?
I’m the same?
Ha ha, being a boat geek yourself I see you couldn't help yourself and had a little peak at Tally Ho 😊
what if?
Geek
step back drink a beer or six and then close one eye and go for it
I'm a geek
You're a geek
He's a geek
She's a geek
It's geeky
We're all geeks
You're all geeks
They're a geek
They're all geeks
And yes, sometimes I'm also a nerd.
10 adverts is too many.
Sorry to note, but your link to The Boat Geeks does not work.
I guess that kind of makes you the opposite of a geek?
is the communication from P to girlfriend protective, almost adult-to-child? Sure am hearing and seeing it.
Peter your girlfriend is adorable.
