It's good to see some progress on the 401. With regards to the 235 here's a couple of suggestions that would have made that repair less costly in terms of time and cash. Before any repair is undertaken one must conduct a survey of the area to be repaired. This survey will help you determine the best course of action, either one of the three actions will result: 1) replace the skin to factory original condition (This would be most likely be considered a major repair and would require FAA/DER approval). 2) remove the damaged section of skin and replace it with a flush patch (This would be considered a minor alteration). 3) remove the damaged section of skin and replace it with a flush access panel similar to other access panels on the aircraft (This would be considered a minor alteration). Some aircraft manufacturers provide a structural repair manual (SRM), This is more commonly found on larger aircraft certified under FAA/FAR part 25. Detailed design recommendations for the alterations as noted in items 2 and 3 could be found in FAA document AC43.13, and if that is the situation then you don't have to obtained FAA/DER approval for your alteration and thus either of those two options would be the cheaper way in order to maintain airworthiness for the aircraft.
I'm a musician and know that sometimes, you have to put in the work behind the scenes for the good stuff to happen. I can see this is where you are and you are doing an amazing job. Your focus and determination to do the right thing will reap amazing rewards. All the best from the UK GUYS.
Great video. You got a lot done and sending the other Aircraft to people with more time for the repair was a good call. Looking forward to your next video. ✈️
I have to stop reading the comments, I can't believe the amount of complaining about the content on this channel that is being provided to us FOR FREE. There are times when there is no or little content to post about the 401 because parts sometimes take a long time to get there. It's not like you can just go to the store and buy a left sprocket for the elevator trim control... Please, just keep doing what you are doing, I have been enjoying the content on this channel since you were trying to start dump trucks lol.
I don’t mind him taking his time uploading about the 401, I just think that once this build is over all the filler from other builds material in all the episodes will take away from the complete masterpiece this build is turning into
There speaks someone who clearly doesnt understand how youtube works. You get paid per views and subscribers. If you stretch a project, more views, more money. End of the day, the original concept was the cheaply restore a plane. Reality, you see a plane that will cost 4 times the original i.e. no economically viable.
This suggestion may be a little late but, take an 8 or ten inch section of nylon tubing the size of the rod and stick it on the rod then use a round head machine screw in the other end of the tubing. Works great for aiding in the routing through bulkheads.
You need to buy or fab a modular spreader bar so you can adjust your spread on straps and don’t put tension on anything due to the fleet angle of straps. Just a piece of pipe with flat bar that has multiple holes in it to attach a shackle at different width. You made one out of a 2x4 and a couple pad eyes but you would save yourself a lot of stress I think.
Good morning beautiful people. Another great video guys. I want to take a moment to salute all those who have given the ultimate sacrifice preserving freedom not only for us but around the world. Let us not forget what Memorial Day is really about. Thank you to all the service members out there placing your lives on the line for us each and every day. Have a safe weekend everyone.
Great video Jason, Joe and Greg! Wow, that was a lot of work with those cables, but boy do they look good. Good idea letting the pro's do the fuselage panels on the other plane. Definitely free's up some of your time for 401 work. Stay safe!
Wow, I am getting a real appreciation of how complicated this project is. Talk about fiddly and time consuming. I cant wait to see the finished panel. Keep up the fantastic work.
Maybe its just me, but those blue cables look so good aligned next to each other at the control levers! Good job on another fantastic video. Hope your Dr. visit went ok.
The only thing harder than taking an airplane apart is putting it back together. Then you have to figure out where that one bolt that is left over went. I love the channel; I watched several videos ago, and you sent the turbos, props, and interior out. Do you know when they're due back? I'm really looking forward to seeing you put more sheet metal back on the 401.
Thanks for another great video. I had some fun this morning revisiting the early videos. We have come so far. The future holds a fleet of Rebuild Rescue planes back in the air across the country.
I always love to watch your videos and especially about the 401 I believe it’s going to be actually better than what it when it was new , Great job and great videos oh and God bless Sam and family Amen ! 🙏👍💝
0:54 They make pliers that makes taking off and on those spring clamp much easier. I bought a pair off Harbor Freight and came in handy doing some water line clamps in hard to reach spot.
Jason don't let the naysayers get you down. Anytime anyone tries to do anything , and especially something good, there will always be people on the sidelines criticizing. But you're true followers believe in you and know that you guys are doing a good thing and your heart is in the right place . Love you guysat RR.
Thank you Mike ! ❤️❤️ I know some folks won’t understand and no matter what won’t have anything nice to say. That’s ok…. It’s just more fuel to get this old bird done and back in the air where she belongs.
Looks like you had that bicep surgery! Hope you have good speedy recovery. I tore mine in December with a 7 cm retraction. Had surgery and just got back to work in May!!
Not jealous of you guys doing this work. Been there done that... when I was much younger (like you are!). It's nice sitting here on my butt watching someone else work. Except I can't supervise directly lol... Sometimes I miss the work, though, not gonna lie. I still get out to maintenance hangars a fair amount but stopped turning wrenches a while ago. Maintenance hangars have a smell to them. Not a bad smell, just - airplane smell :)
A great part of you is being added to that plane, and if you haven't already discovered, you will be having feelings for it. As a viewer of your work, I can see and feel that happening. You started with the skeleton of an airplane and are hanging new flesh to it. I know it will be a great aircraft when you are finished.
It's not hard to tell who will never accomplish anything in their lives, they all have zero confidence in finishing a project and do their best to bring everyone else down with them. Negative Nellies....
Using differential thrust on the ground to steer the airplane as a main function of directional control is incorrect. It is through the nose wheel steering and differential breaking. Differential thrust/ power would be used to assist in a tight turn so to speak.
Jason I was wondering if you could do a little segment on how much you spent already on the 401 to get it this stage I know it must not cheap replacing cables etc but it be good to know what has it cost R-R so far to get to this stage of the rebuild I think the community would like to know also

I love tuning into all these mad restos
I am still tidying my workshop before instart my car

You know until I started watching this series I had no idea how complex an airplane was. Thank you for the education.
To think, these are VERY simple and basic aircraft, not like an airliner or B1B for instance.
3 milestones I’m looking forward to, new paint reveal, new avionics reveal, and of course her maiden voyage
Sometimes working smart is not being too spread out on projects. Smart move sending the Piper out so you can focus on the 401. Keep up the good work.
