Does your sewing machine bobbin direction matter?

  • One of the first things people point out when sewing machine problems occur is the direction of the bobbin. But the odds are sewing/tension issues are more likely cause by missing tension disks/springs. So in this short video I try to illustrate how little your bobbin direction effects your machine's stitch. Inevitably someone will say that their machine is different because it's top loading, which is true, but they too will not experience much stitch variance when the bobbin direction is incorrect. Please leave any questions in the comment section and I'll try to respond ASAP.

Thank you so much for watching :)

I always had machines with metal casing for bobbins. However, newer models don't have the metal case, just a drop-in. In your opinion, does that make a big difference? Thanks

Does using the incorrect way affect the sewing machine

Not really. The only time it could really effect it is if your thread comes out of the tension spring on the case (which I have only seen 1 time in the last ten years while working on machines.)
