People are always asking me what are my favorite original cocktails I've invented for the show, and I'm terrible at answering questions like that. Hopefully this can be my answer for now, at least until I come up with better drinks!

ITS THE BAR MAND DUDE!
I always imagined johnny ordered an old fashioned and somebody spilled his beer or something, got a little in his drink, stared a bar fight, and after it was all said and done, Johnny tasted it and decided he liked it more that way.
Let me gently submit: the Ambrosia cocktail you made from the Hades episode, but using the brown butter infused rum from the Hot Buttered Rum episode.
I always kinda wondered ; What did you do before HTD and what came about to set you down the path to making the show?
Hey Greg! I was actually hoping for a list of your favorites, so I appreciate an episode like this. One thing that I think would add to this format would be some commentary from you while you're reviewing/editing them. Update us on how they fair against each-other, and whether or not you've learned anything new about these drinks!
I feel like I've been misled into watching an hour and 22 minutes of high-quality entertainment
That sounds like a win win situation to me
I don't drink and likely never will, outside of maybe a faint chance of drinking at an event or something where I feel it's polite to do so, so this is just infotainment to me
Right like I’ve was expecting a fun little 10 min video but instead got a full length feature film of nonstop entertainment
Yet it felt like ten minutes.
Paul Harrell is the same way. The video flies by.
This format might be a nice end-of-year kind of thing during list season.
The best cocktails of the year is definitely a cool idea
Yeah a clip show with him and Meredith in smoking jackets remenising
Agreed. It would be a good year-in-review kind of deal
do the worst of the year, then the best of the year!
When Greg smashed his toe making the flaming mo is when we agreed this man was a hot mess staring into the existential void through a cloud of post boomer pop culture and pre-social media social standards, trying to make sense of it all with brute force and sheer talent, and we’ve been here for it ever since
same
So kind of Meredith to undo the ankle shackles and let Greg out from behind the bar
They needed to do that when he dropped the glass block onto his unshod foot.
Hey Greg! My dad and I built a bar at our house partially because of your entertainment on this and other platforms! I just never get here this early to feel like I can possibly get you to see the comment! I hope you have been well lately! Thanks for the videos! Stay healthy!
Greg is out of his natural habitat! It’s weird and different and now I’m scared
In all seriousness I love the retrospective format you’ve been doing recently
This episode felt like having the director's commentary on to one of my favorite shows, that is to say it was great.
If you made a recipe book with all the cocktails you've come up with I'd buy it
I'd drop 25-30 on it happily. I screen shot his descriptions every episode. Book would be better and easier.
I made my own cocktail book in the form of a word document using Greg’s and Anders Ericsson’s recipes
Take my money
100% - this video was an instant save to my "recipes" playlist
I don't drink, but I do collect fandom cookbooks (Star Wars, Fallout, Binging With Babish, etc.). I'd happily add it to my collection.
You and Brennan in that episode makes me smile nonstop ❤ makes me wanna get in the kitchen with friends and make silly drinks and talk nerd shit
They occupy very different parts of my brain but seeing them together it’s so obvious that they should know each other
MAJOR props to whoever mixed the audio in this video. I don’t have the vocabulary to give any legitimate feedback, but the sound mixing on Greg’s desk dialogue is noticeably impressive - very warm, no unnecessary noise, and perfectly balanced!
Y'know, I do love the funny "BLEGH" reactions you give when you do all the gross cocktail stuff, but honestly, it's awesome to see a recap that encompasses the best of what you've been forced through.
It's like a mini cocktail book. I like that you even kept the original context of the recipes, and didn't just hastily voice over shortened versions.
I'd love to see this become a yearly (or monthly) thing, maybe doing a compilation of the "worst" if you did a lot of gross cocktails, heheh.
Awesome stuff, Greg. Thank you for showing the world that there's more to alcohol than meets the eye. ❤
This was an absolute trip. As an audience member it's so crazy to watch all these and go "oh yeah, I remember seeing that when it released!". I can only imagine how nostalgic this must have been for you. Honestly I think everyone would love a behind the scenes retrospective of the series, from inception (several bars ago!) to now. Would love to hear how it all went down from your side of the ol' parasocial portal that is YT. Cheers Greg and the HTD team, past and present!
I'm only at number 1 but I'd be interested to see if the italian rum punch from the olive garden episode was on here, I think that's the most excited I've EVER seen Greg get about a drink on HTD.
So glad that your Rusty Anchor made your own personal lists - It's one of my very favorite "non traditional" gin drinks that I've ever come across and I make it regularly!
As someone who just turned 21 and wanted to look at your "best" to get some ideas to try I feel like this video was literally made for me.
The Stimpak Shot you made is still perhaps one of my all-time favorites after all these years, from that point I started liking gentian in a lot of drinks.
If only he had a stimpack from Fallout after dropping that mug on his toe xD
That Brennan guest appearance was great! It would be rad if some of the various drinks from Dimension20 appeared on here as well
I think Greg on d20 would be so good!
Johnny Silverhand was the first cocktail I've seen on your channel and after watching it, I joined the hobby. So happy I've found your channel.
Seeing Brenan do the awkward 🤘 gesture is hilarious. I feel like that was like... A shy first date. You guys should definitely make another video.
good god the cinematography and audio mixing is next level. this is also an awesome format, would love to see more like this. you never let us down greggy!!
I loved this! I'd happily watch more like this - perhaps "top ten fav drink inventions you can easily try at home" or "top ten tiki drink inventions" or similar. I love to try your stuff out but in Sweden, some ingredients are hard to come by so this would be both inspiring and helpful.
What, specifically, is hard to come by? There are most likely easier to find substitutes. The only ones that don't are probably Drambuie and Creme de Violette.
@@dwaterson21 I didn't mean specifically this episode but HTD in genereal. Sure I can sometimes find substitutes, but for example rye and corn whiskies are pretty unheard of here, and even the bourbon selection is limited.
I didn't mean that I can't find stuff like chamborde or creme de violette, but if Greg does more of these videos, that would highlight which recipes are most worth trying at home - so that I don't buy a speciality thing for a drink that in all honesty wasn't very good.
You said the Golden Girls episode is criminally under watched, but the Rusty Anchor is my one of my most made drinks at home. An absolute favorite of mine.
As someone who isn't a content creator, I can't fathom how your ideas for new episodes do not dwindle closer to zero each one that comes out. I think everyone really appreciates each episode you come out with and I'm sure new fans are trying to catch up with all the past episodes that have come out.
definitely a fan of this format, would love to see some more retrospective stuff or just long format stuff. I'm really just here for Greg
The peacekeeper drink reminds me of a gin and tonic based cocktail with salt and pepper on top that was amazing. I can't remember much beyond it had a great salty, savory, and bitter mix
The agave maria is actually agave based, so it won't be a perfect substitute, but if the main flavor it's bringing is chocolate any abbey dubbel, imperial stout, or possibly a wee heavy might work. The imperial stouts are often actually chocolate flavored. If you find a Mexican Stout, it would be double the heat.
Loved this, absolutely need more recaps like this! It's easy to get lost in hours of htd and highlights/reminders are so useful, not to mention getting you're comparative opinion on drinks side-by-side
Fallout 1 & 2 really are some of the best things in this world. Lots of memories. I still chase that feeling from games.
Excited for this video and concept! Would love to see this as an annual year-in-review kind of thing - maybe just a top 5 instead of a top 10 because of how time-limited a year is compared to “of all time” discussions, but hey, don’t let me tell you how to live.
Greg, I just want to share, like so many others have, that you’re an inspiration to me, among a select few others. I actually just made 5 Original cocktails a few nights ago for Valentine’s Day, which I was heavily inspired by your videos to do, especially the chain restaurant videos and the A.I. cocktails videos.
Anyways, thanks for all the wonderful content, as always, and I’m excited for whatever the future might bring
This was absolutely fantastic. Thanks for more HTD. I wish all the very best!
I am a huge fan of this style of video. Getting into cocktails and these seem like a blast. Also helps to see what cool videos ive missed as well!
Time to go watch the Golden girls video now 😊
I absolutely love and appreciate this kind of "summary" episode. They keep things short and concise, and I don't have to dig through hundreds of hours of content. AND it gives me a "short list" of cocktails that I can recreate for my bar guests that have no idea what they want or like, while being 100% sure that if I pull a drink from this list, it'll be a good one 👏
EDIT: spelling and grammar
Absolutely love this! It's great to be able to get you to pick your favorites or most fun cocktails you've made!
You always give an indication of how good a drink was, but it's nice to clarify that these were your favorites. Cool stuff. Keep em coming.
Love your channel 👍 the rusty anchor looks amazing! And you’re 100% right, there is no substitute for Drambuie !
I just remembered you had Brennan on the show and now I need him back. He's a great person and I need more of him and you goofing around.
This was a fantastic episode~! Defiantly loved the feel and I'd love to see some much older recipes/episodes in an episode like this in the future.
I have wanted this video for ages! Amazing.
Outstanding video. I absolutely love these retrospective montage thingies. Well done.
Whooo more HTD! Just used your specs for a whiskey sour subbing cinnamon syrup. Was phenomenal
Always love your experiments with new content, and as a fan of clip-shows and commentary tracks, I like this.
you know I always find myself going back and watching some oldies for some background noise and this compilation format takes away the work of finding a video and clicking it
i guess you just have a good voice, id listen to you talk about most thing
Big fan of all the different thing you've been trying (and the bread and butter episodes). Keep pushing to innovate and I'll keep watching. Good work Greg
I really loved this lil trip down memory lane, it was nice to see all these again, it's been a while since I've had the time to rewatch some of the older stuff :D
This is great, it's like a cheat sheet for all the cocktails on my bucket list
This is a video I had been waiting for
wasn't expecting the hour and change but i dont hate it, bring on more of this! i pretty much just have a youtube created playlist of yours on constantly while im at work as background noise.
Great episode compilation!
At first I was unsure how How To Drink ended up in my suggestions (although I think my partner has told me they watch a lot of your videos in the past?)--- then you bring on friggin' Brenna Lee Mulligan and it all became so very clear lmao. I am absolutely loving your channel even though I'm obviously late to the party, and that surprise was just the cherry on top for me.
I really like this format, and it's really fun seeing your drink something you really enjoy. It's wholesome entertainment.
This is great! I'd love to see more "favorites" videos, especially of stuff that isn't inspired by media. My favorite HTD is always the more informative stuff, and I'm always psyched to discover an unexpected tasty concoction coming out of you testing a chain restaurant drink, sampling a range of spirits etc.
I am 100% on board with more content like this every now and again. It’s really nice
This is great Greg! You’ve been killing on content.
I feel this needed more new segments with your memories and thoughts now than there is.
Sleepy time episode! Long form Greg is awesome to fall asleep too. Greg, your voice is so relaxing and wonderful. I've fallen asleep to your videos many nights, then rewatched at work. In my top 5 list of RUclips channels. Episode idea, farmers market cocktails. Alcohols made from fruit and veg with mixers/modifiers being only farmers market ingredients
Fun episode! I’ve been watching long enough to feel nostalgic about some of those older ones. I was just getting home bartending
Great job, keep ‘em coming
As someone who is newer to the channel and haven't seen a lot of the older videos this was awesome!
I'm loving all the new formats personally
Really love your stuff, keep up the good work
It amazes me that a channel with your sub count and production value is all done by you and your wife. You do such a great job!
This was a really fun episode and a nice change of pace feel 👌
Definitely loved the trip through some good episodes. Suprised by some.
Just last night I was wondering about a How to Drink Hall of Fame, and here we are, with several fantastic drinks I hadn't seen! Thank you for this.
Greg - all I have to say is... loved this visit and the revisit to some of your original cocktails.
I love this. Definitely should do an end of year review of worsts and bests every January!
Love that we're getting this extra long episode!
Perfect - gonna try any of these I haven’t. Thanks for the vid!
Thanks for making thiss Greg!
Great work Greg, this honestly is the perfect opportunity for you or the rest of the HTD team to recommend any substitutes or additional notes on the drink, or even any Behind the scenes shtuff.
Great vid :) not sure how often youll be able to use these/this format tho :/
Maybe keeping one like this in reserve should life throw a nasty curveball your way
I tried the Rusty Anchor soon after you posted that episode. Great Drink!
I like these compilation episodes. With so much content, itt highlights gems I may have missed.
A good topic may be a list of the bartending techniques that you've previously covered people keep asking about.
FO 1 and 2? I just want to give you a massive hug now. Ty sir and ty some more.
This was a very cool look pack on the history of your content. :) Desk Greg has a place in my heart, just as Bar Greg does.
I enjoyed this immensely!
Its a very nice format. No hate to sling, or shade to throw. Just keep the interesting and informative commentary coming.
nice, saw some stuff from some episodes I hadn't seen before. Thanks!
Loved the video and would definitely watch more like this one. Also was weird seeing u not behind the bar.
Surprised that Cagney's Breakfast didn't make the cut. Of all your recipes, this was by far my favorite, and I've even used the general idea of the Cagney's Breakfast as a base to develop my own variations.
That Rusty Anchor has been an all-summer staple since it debuted. Fantastic! And the more Angostura, THE better!
im a huge fan of the retrospective format and seeing that from Greg is incredible.
I love this format because it means I get more HTD which is all I want
I've made the rusty anchor about a dozen times since watching this video and its become one of my favourite drinks!
Came in thinking I was just going to skip to the recipes alone and ended up really enjoying watching through the entire thing. This was amazing and I'd love to see more of these sorts of videos maybe 2-3 times a year perhaps? Yeah that seems about right.
Love these new formats, especially the monday news livestreams
awesome episode!
Greg, how could you do this and leave out the Swanky Panky? So amazing. I’ve called that drink at bars all over the world always to great applause.
Love the original theme music!
I love all these different kinds of episodes you're doing. I just hope you aren't working too hard or too many extra hours for extra content. ❤
love the format! I also sense a theme with Angostura bitters xD
Your intro is honest. This is a good repository for those that ask that question
I had been pondering on a twist to the "bee's knees" cocktail and was thinking about a cremè de violette foam/whip top. You answered everything I needed to have it come to be. I'll take a stab at it soon and update this if it ends up being good.
I know this isn't a Greg original, but I discovered the Gordon's Breakfast because of you, which has become one of my favourite summer daytime drinks.
Honestly don't know how I missed the Rusty Anchor episode. The Golden Girls is legit one of my favorite sitcoms. Still incredibly funny.
These were definitely my favorite type of episodes. I enjoy the creativity of it. The surprises the may happen. Only unfortunate bit is that some of these drinks can be quite complicated. I would love to try a johnny silverhand.
You should totally do these once a quarter to review your best drinks with maybe some fan feedback on which ones folks have tried and liked. I personally enjoyed a few of those when the videos first came out but its great to see them again and in one video.
While I think this episode could have been better at half the length, I loved this compilation and the cross section of one of the great things about this channel - Greg invents things and talks about the process. I enjoyed it and I hope to see more in the future - but 5 might be a better length.
Thanks to the instructions for one of your videos, rattleskull is one of my go to winter drinks
Great idea for a video! Thanks!
