    soy milk when made fresh from soy beans and water is one of my favorite drinks and cooking ingredients. slightly sweet, full of umami and rich without being overdone. it's healthy and filling. and can be used in SO MANY WAYS! 😛
    here's a few of my tips to make soy milk simple, easier, faster and better!
    ☝ use high powered blender like a vitamix for the best extraction, i used to have a kitchen aid and frankly the vitamix is just more powerful and fast. theres a reason its standard in commercial kitchens. as much as i love my immersion blender...
    ☝ use a soymilk maker like the soyajoy i reviewed here. saves a few steps and minimizes transfers, risk of scorching or overflow. limited by capactiy but... you could get two. just saying... dont you hate when people say that? and i just said it. yabe
    ☝ soak a big batch (2, 3, 4 or 5x) of soy beans and freeze until ready to use.... it saves time why? its called context switching
    ☝ still using a nutmilk bag? use a fruit press. a fruit press? 🤨 ya - just like what's used for making apple juice. curious? video coming soon.🙂 broll
    ☝ practice. i remember the first time i made soy milk and even almond milk and oat milk. looking back, it was a learning process and the more i made the better i got. if i can do it so can you.
    🤔question of the day - which one of these have you tried already? which will you try first? got any i missed? share them in a comment! 😘

    Thanks for the video. So in summary... batch prepare large quantity of soy beans (soak, remove skins, parboil and freeze). When making soy milk, defrost 250g of soy beans. Blend with high speed blender, then use a soy milk maker to cook the beans. Use a fruit press to separate the milk from the okara. Job done 👍

    Thanks for the tips! Prepering and freezing the soy beans is so smart and simple! I make soy milk to make tofu. But for milk I recently discovered that making nut milk from nut butter leaves you pretty much with no pulp at all! So far I've tried it with homemade peanut butter and almond butter and it is delicious (about 1 tablespoon of nut butter for 3/4 cup of water). The piles of okara in my freezer are enough to handle anyway and that helps to save on food waste.

    What would have been nice is actually showing how to make soy milk in the Vitamix. Do you cook the beans first, cook the milk after it's been blended in the Vitamix, cook the milk in the Vitamix since it can cook things like soup, do you strain it after the Vitamix, etc etc?

    I use the Almond Cow machine to make soy milk. It is so much easier than using the bags. Basic recipe: soybeans (soaked and pealed), filtered water, pinch of sea salt, and if you want it sweetened use 2-3 dates and 1 tsp. vanilla extract.

    Do you need to dehull the beans (a royal pain) or just throw 'em in?

    • @alldayieatlikeashark
      @alldayieatlikeashark  3 года назад

      I do remove them. After soaking the soybeans for few minutes, I gently rub them together while they are still in a water bath and drain the skin with the water as the skin would usually float.
      How do you dehull your soy beans?
