This was a really cool perspective to listen to. I’m 19 almost 20 and I’m interested in 4 years active duty. I liked how you talked about how you already experienced a bunch of “life” before the military because it makes me think about why I’m joining. I’m joining because I just want to experience another side of life and so many people I know have done the traditional “school to work” route. I’d be the first person in my family to join the military so that’s what makes me excited to join... to build a stable future for myself “differently” compared to those around me. Thanks for sharing!
I know its a year later, but I hope you didn't join. I advise to NOT join. From my personal experience as well as hundreds of thousands of other veterans, it is extremely hard to find a civilian job after you get out of the military. With the current political climate and employers being weary of veterans (they assume almost all vets have ptsd), it is difficult to even get a call back for a job, even more difficult to get a job offer. I'm 35 y/o Army Veteran, got out in 2010 and since then I have applied to over 2,000 jobs, mainly at places like Coffee Bean, Starbucks, Target, a lot of the big corporations, fast food places. There were times where I actually left off that I ever served in the military and I actually started getting calls back after applying. I used my GI BIll, Went to University and majored in Bachelor's Degree from a legit university, and I STILL couldn't get a job, and I think it is because I have no real experience other than my military experience, and the appearance of having a 30 year old man (at the time) that just graduated college and no civilian job experience (when compared to my competition who are in their early 20s), I was just totally over looked and its extremely hurtful. Again, I'm 35, no purpose, no job, no career no matter how hard I tried. I only turned to alcohol and drugs in the last few months because what is even the point of life anymore
Congrats!! Can you give me details about your process. I’m trying to enlist in the space force after I finish my bachelors in may. Would love to have some perspective!
@@mp43sabres yea I hope so lol! I’ve heard one of the hardest parts is staying awake lol 😂. I’ve been watching a lot of videos and reading about it just to try and prepare myself. We’ll see how it goes!
Sometimes it's not saltiness, its reality sinking in lol I try to stay positive, but leadership makes it super difficult to be efficient sometimes. I love the military, not so much my squadron leadership. After 6 years, I realize that I need to work on my goals and put the military 2nd. I'm thankful but its time to work on my goals and use the military however I can for that.
Congratulations!!🎉 Brittany on your 2 year anniversary in the air force thank you for your service and tips on the military I appreciate it very much💪💯
The main reason why I want to enlist into the Air Force on a 6 year contract is mainly due to my age (17) and lack of knowledge to compare a military lifestyle to a civilian lifestyle. I’ve grown up around both lifestyles and personally I see the military a good lifestyle for me being single and not having a real goal to achieve just yet. I guess my main fear of enlisting is not being able to have time with my family or social life, but I’m ready to start a new beginning!
One Senior Airman to another, that is best attitude keep going! My advice to all git yor edumaction while you are in and sign up for Thrift Savings Plan or other retirement plans even if you don't go to a military retirement.
I’ve been watching your videos since the summer when I started my journey of joining the air national guard. I’m swearing in this week! Your videos have helped me so much thank you ❤️
I love your story by the way, you’re very inspiring as an older airmen !!! If you love the Air Force and want to stay in but want to be able to have time to raise a family, consider the Air National Guard after you’re done with your active duty contract! You’ll work one weekend a month and go on annual training two weeks of the year!!! A lot of Active Duty personnel go that route to spend more time with family while still serving their country and community.
Congrats on the marriage, I am in the process of talking with a recruiter and plan on joining as soon as I can, when a job opens that I am hopeful for. Yourself and Airman Vision are the two channels I watch for Airforce/BMT advice, I am also on the “older side” of joining at 28, but it’s something that I have always wanted to do since HS, glad you are still going strong in 2021, CONGRATS on the house BTW, and the pregnancy!! 😊👍
From one Military Vet to another, if the world is still going through weird times such as covid etc. I would just stay in where things are safer. Just something to think about.
@@Javiertorres-k10 yeah if you can finish school and join as officer. You’d be set. I got out the military and have reconsidered joining after finishing my bachelor’s degree. There’s a lot of benefits and with unemployment at an all time high and the craziness of Covid, you’d better suited with a tight knit family and a guaranteed paycheck every 2 weeks.

Thank you for sharing your experiences and knowledge! I went through the ASVAB and preparation for the AF with your guidance and look forward to more videos!
Here you go. Two active duty careers as a married couple is going to be rough. A lot of moves and there is always war. What you get is two active duty pensions. Look at the table and multiply the high year three and then x .40 Then add in your TSP for both. Then look at the VA which is a quick win if all injuries and illnesses have been documented in medical records. I just gave you a plan for over $100,000 in yearly income. I hit 35 years in the reserve in one week. One other thing max out both TSP plans when you can afford it. You could both end up with a pot of $300,000 to $500,000. One point if active duty does not work try guard or reserve. Your two final years are IRR. That gives you 24 months to decide. After that is over you may have a harder time getting back in. Guard is better for school benefits and reserve is better for promotion. Check out the guard/reserve retirement also. Also if you are intel look into the government agencies. A lot of acronym agencies look for intel analysts with military training.
