I am currently studying aerospace engineering in college and want to eventually become a crew chief. What path did you take to get there or what path would you recommend? Thanks for any tips
Good question! You actually don’t need a degree to enlist and become a crew chief! I was actually in college studying mechanical engineering before I enlisted! If you really want to be a crew chief all you really have to do is score enough on the mechanical on the asvab! But for you I recommend finishing out your degree and maybe looking into the officer career fields so you can come in with more seniority and rank. Officers make more money and do bigger picture operations and help lead the Air Force! Lemme know if you have any other questions! Thanks for watching!
Aerospace engineer to a crew chief!?! Really dude, take that shit and get you a Boeing job or something else. Crew chiefs are really low on the tier based on how they're treated in the military. At least try commissioning, my god I hope you didn't enlist for that. .
@@Technie87 i agree and disagree, depending on your desire to see the world or staying put. Your right, a crew chief is (no disrespect) but a tire kicker. My suggestion would be shoot for a backshop career field like NDI or machinist, etc..something you can use after leaving the AF.

Please Help!! My son wants to join the Air Force and I’m having an anxiety attack especially now with Covid-19. Could you please let me know how they are handling people with the illness.
I can assure you they’re taking great precautions, I know they’re quarantining people who even have symptoms, or anyone who’s come in contact with the sick ones. Everyone is required to wear their masks and keep clean. Everything is constantly cleaned and constantly being monitored. I’m pretty sure they’re even implementing less people per flight at basic training to minimize exposure. If I were you personally I wouldn’t be worried! It’s still a great route to go and your son would be in good hands. But all in all it’s up to y’all! Goodluck!
In BMT (basic military training) for the Air Force if I remember right they are like Alec said taking HUGE precautions on everyone with or without syptoms, flights are actually smaller right now ( i believe ) and they are putting in rules like sleeping in every other bed instead of every bed, making all recruits social distance and they even have videos on the Air Force instagram of recruits doing their physically training 6 feet apart, with a mask on.
It's honestly being handled very well! I'm a guardsman, and in fact, I felt safer from the virus on Active orders than I do back in the civilian world. The AF is closely monitoring anyone with symptoms, mandating mask wear, and requiring a 14-day quarantine for almost any movement of station. All training - including Basic Training has been revamped to include proper distancing and procedures to handle the virus. Even with the virus, joining the AF was 100% the best decision of my life, and who knows, it may be the best decision of your son's life as well!
The Covid-19 virus will not affect him if he’s a healthy young male, it has a 99.9% survival rate and has killed less than 100 people under the age of 20 so he will be very safe
I joined a gang, gotten into fights, started drinking and smoking weed/Nic. All I know is Trades and I like mechanics. I feel like this is a good option for me becuase i don’t have anything for me at home 🤷🏽♂️

Hey man I’m actually leaving for basic in a week and just had a quick question to ask. So my girlfriend is actually joining the army national guard and we would like to move in together. How long does it take to get a apartment off base to be able to move in together
Congrats man, it usually honestly depends on your base and the way they do it. My base had so many people coming in that I got to move off base within 2 months of being there. And mostly everyone got to move as well, so since the dorms are full they let us move. Other bases make you wait till you make later ranks such as senior airman. Or marriage is a sure way off base, but I suggest making sure you’re ready for that one😂 Goodluck man!
It honestly depends on your base, I had an apartment style dorm with my own private room, bathroom and closet, but I shared a common area with 3 other guys.
Hey Alec, I'm currently 2 years into college and I want to join the airforce in Hope's of being a pilot or into an engineering field. Should I get my 4 year degree before I enter or just enlist?
If I were you I’d do my best to finish college up and from there earn your commission, and also look into rotc programs in your university! Might be a good idea so you can earn your commission while going to school. But it all depends on what works best for your situation! Goodluck!
Well if I were you I’d go on airforce.com and check out all the career areas, there’s tons so I’d just look into those specific jobs in areas that you like. For example if you like medical, then choose that category and see all the jobs
do you get to choose where you get stationed?...........or is it by force like if they say hey you going to be stationed in china...do you have a choice?
There’s a huge variety to choose from, I recommend going on Airforce.come and looking at the career list and going from there. Find some that may interest you and do research on those jobs In Particular. Also be sure to check out the rest of my vids for more info!
You don’t have to be the smartest wrench in the toolbox to get a job, but through hard work and dedication you can achieve any job listed. If I were you I’d look on the Air Force website and see what interests you and see what the asvab requirements are for them, and from there form a plan, and execute.
Im 32 and had two businesses fail. I don't care too much about family or friends. I've been married before it ain't what y'all think its a waste. I worked jobs kind like fedex Delivery Driver, server, Hvac, housekeeping etc. And any job I've had over almost never cared about vacation or traveling. Idk about the rest of you but I'm a workaholic. If I get in I'm definitely cutting everyone off. What you think is a con is a blessing to me. Food, shelter, money. That's all I need and want.
i want to join and have back problems nothing like medical but it hurts all the time, and got surgery on my collarbone, could stuff like this stop me from joining?
I’d say maybe , but it all depends on what their evaluations on you conclude! I know there are medical waivers that could help you get in even if you have issues BUT I can’t guarantee it because I’m not by any means a recruiter or anything, so my advice would be to ask your local recruiter and see if something like that would stop you. But I sure hope it doesn’t! Best of luck!
You will give them a list of jobs and area of interest that you want. Based on what she qualifies for after taking the asvab they’ll tell her what she can be! Going Air Force you don’t have to worry too much about staying away from combat. Security forces is one of the more common / close to combat jobs you’ll get. But she should be able to pick her area of interest. What’s she thinking?
I’m not entirely sure if they have special programs but I know there are practice tests you can take online or there are books you can buy to help you study for the test! I’d ask a recruiter about programs though!
I have a question im a boxer and i really wanna keep boxing withing the USAF Falcons and keep competing while im gonna be there and turn pro after i get out and i know there is a boxing team whats the process of trying out and stuff
I'm not 100% sure but that would be something to 1.) Ask your recruiter about, and 2.) Ask your squadron leadership about once you arrive at your first duty station
My parents tried to home school me (failed) so I’m trying to get my GED. I get the reason but it suck’s i probably won’t get in at first due to GED applicant slots being full. Rip
You request time off to your leadership and they say yes or no for the dates and location (usually yes) and then you go and spend it however you choose. For example if I want to go home for a week and visit my parents, I just say what days I want to use, if they say yes, then I put in my request electronically and once that’s approved I just go on vacation for those days
id like to add, my dad was medically discharged and now has free visits to the va for anything. also my uncle who retired with 30 years has medical for life. he probably saves $1000 a month being retired
Deployments depend on mission and career field. We are trained for any situation, but it is unlikely for me as an aircraft maintainer to be any where near combat. Yes, travel is likely when joining the Air Force, as training locations depend on job, and opportunities arise for TDY’s and other assignments.
That’s a great question to ask a recruiter, I’m not sure what their requirements are on that aspect but I know for a fact that I’ve seen males with beards due to religion and things like that so maybe you’d be able to. I’d definitely ask! Best of luck!
@@harrylozano4778 I feel that way because I feel I didn’t do enough. Security forces think they are tough shit. In reality they are not. At least I felt that way.

As someone who’s a little older than a lot of other enlistees (people straight out of high school and lower 20s) I’d say just be patient and help them out when you get to basic training since you’ve had a bit more life experience and time to grow. Hope this helps! Goodluck and let me know if you have any more questions!
@@dickrizzzo The guys in aerospace engineering - defense contractors like Lockheed Martin, Boeing, & Northrup Grumman will take him up for 100k+ a year, & benefits as opposed to having to bust your ass for 7/8 years working 12’s till you make time and grade (staff/tech) to reach 70k take home money. Its no disrespect, its what it is. You’re in the military and they treat you like shit (in maintenance/secfo).
USAF should be used to get a bachelor’s degree and get out, Come in with a useless bachelors degree like (english, arts) and then commission if you cant find a job, commission after your degree, and or ride 20 years behind a desk job (cross train if you start in maintenance) and use Tuition assistance to get a side degree if you please. Work smarter not harder - And see what the military can do for you, not the other way around.Because THEY WILL use and abuse you
@@Technie87 I was maintenance on fighter jets and i can assure you i got much worse treatment in civilian jobs. Many roads lead to Rome. Speaking of Italy, I doubt Lockheed will send you to Aviano AB to live in one of the most beautiful areas on earth.
Thank you so much for this video, I’m a freshman and wanting to go to the Air Force. and I found this very helpful
Happy to hear it was helpful! Best of luck
Currently stationed in Japan now I agree with the traveling aspect it's the best part aside from helping your family when you need help!

Great video, it’s nice to hear a different description of the USAF other than ‘chair force’ lol. All my friends are rangers so that’s probably why.. Anyways great video and I’m fairly certain you’ve just made and airman lmao. Keep up the hard work brother 🤘🏻🇺🇸
Spent 4 years in Germany at spangdahlem AB after basic as a weapons guy didn't care for the work but traveled all over Europe good times!
Great video Alec! Thank you for sharing 😊

Ha
I joined a gang, gotten into fights, started drinking and smoking weed/Nic. All I know is Trades and I like mechanics. I feel like this is a good option for me becuase i don’t have anything for me at home 🤷🏽♂️
Definitely not a bad idea man, I’d talk to a recruiter and see what they could offer you, sometimes it’s best to get away from home to have a fresh start and this is a great way to do it
try not to mention the gang and marijuana

Super helpful. And down the to point. Thanks Alec!! Just subscribed. Can you have a pet in your dorms?
Thank you !! I’m pretty sure it depends on your base, but we were not allowed to have pets such as dogs and cats and all that. But I’m pretty sure they said something like a fish in a small tank wouldn’t be a problem, but again it’s up to your leadership at that base! Lemme know if you have any other questions!
very helpful for my future decision. (:
Great video brother. I’m really thinking of joining air national guard. So let’s say if theirs a war are we going?
Most likely...all out war all guardsmen, reservists will get mobilized. Combat units will probably go first.
I heard in the AF you have your own room in base, not like the other branches where they are 2/3/4 per room. Is it true ? Or just to get people in ?
It honestly depends on your base, I had an apartment style dorm with my own private room, bathroom and closet, but I shared a common area with 3 other guys.
Hey Alec, I'm currently 2 years into college and I want to join the airforce in Hope's of being a pilot or into an engineering field. Should I get my 4 year degree before I enter or just enlist?
If I were you I’d do my best to finish college up and from there earn your commission, and also look into rotc programs in your university! Might be a good idea so you can earn your commission while going to school. But it all depends on what works best for your situation! Goodluck!
Thank you so much this really helped me out❤
Good video.
*is there some dumb initiation bs? Or like friendly hazing? Im not into any of that honestly.*
Not from any of my experience, if I’m not mistaken hazing is not allowed at all.
Hey Alec, I scored a 91 on the azvab and I know I have variety of job options, but I don’t know where to go regarding my job, any recommendations
Well if I were you I’d go on airforce.com and check out all the career areas, there’s tons so I’d just look into those specific jobs in areas that you like. For example if you like medical, then choose that category and see all the jobs
I heard its hard to get promoted due to a large quantity of people joining
Do a video on how to prepare for basic
do you get to choose where you get stationed?...........or is it by force like if they say hey you going to be stationed in china...do you have a choice?
If you know nothing about the Air Force or don’t know how to do anything in Air Force are they able to teach us how to do things
Of course! That’s what they do during basic training and tech school! Teach you fundamentals and your job
@@AfterBurner55 What are the different type of jobs for the Air Force I wouldn’t wanna do nun that I wouldn’t like
There’s a huge variety to choose from, I recommend going on Airforce.come and looking at the career list and going from there. Find some that may interest you and do research on those jobs In Particular. Also be sure to check out the rest of my vids for more info!
Currently 17. the moment i Graduate i plan on going to the air force.
I don’t think I’m smart enough to go in the air force but I want to join. I was thinking navy also but I don’t know.
That stash is intense
you like crew chief ? this man is built different
Any video of what workouts we need to do before joining
Do you give them a list of desirable jobs? My wife’s thinking of going in and def want to stay away from combat.
What’s she thinking?
check out the DEP as far as I understand it ensures you get at least 1/10 jobs you put but you may have to wait a while
Idk why Im watching this Im already in lol. Out here at sheppard just like you were I can’t wait to leave next month, im 361 props c130s btw
You should be graduated and at your first base by now if not very close! C-130 guys and gals all always say how much they love it, Goodluck!
Do they have special programs in the AF, for people that don’t do to well on the Asvab.
I’m not entirely sure if they have special programs but I know there are practice tests you can take online or there are books you can buy to help you study for the test! I’d ask a recruiter about programs though!
What are you considering not doing well? I got a 55 on it and I actually qualified for a LOT more jobs that I thought.
Being stationed at cannon afb, a big ASS CON. PRO...join the guard and get E7 or 05 in 9 years.
I’m 23, n lost in life. So I’m this would be a great first step. I wanted to join after hs but just was bullshitting too much
It’s definitely a great way to kickstart your career and start a new. What kind of career field are you interested in working in?
I have a question im a boxer and i really wanna keep boxing withing the USAF Falcons and keep competing while im gonna be there and turn pro after i get out and i know there is a boxing team whats the process of trying out and stuff
I'm not 100% sure but that would be something to 1.) Ask your recruiter about, and 2.) Ask your squadron leadership about once you arrive at your first duty station
My parents tried to home school me (failed) so I’m trying to get my GED. I get the reason but it suck’s i probably won’t get in at first due to GED applicant slots being full. Rip
Did you end up getting a spot to join? Hope it all works out!
how do the days off work in the air force? how many do you get a week and what do you get to do with them?
You request time off to your leadership and they say yes or no for the dates and location (usually yes) and then you go and spend it however you choose. For example if I want to go home for a week and visit my parents, I just say what days I want to use, if they say yes, then I put in my request electronically and once that’s approved I just go on vacation for those days
@@AfterBurner55 thanks man, your videos are really informative
id like to add, my dad was medically discharged and now has free visits to the va for anything. also my uncle who retired with 30 years has medical for life. he probably saves $1000 a month being retired
I’ve been trucking for 5 years thinking of joining but im 27 idk
Lifetime V.A. benefits alone are worth it.
How long do deployments last? Are you ever on front lines? Do you have to travel?
Deployments depend on mission and career field. We are trained for any situation, but it is unlikely for me as an aircraft maintainer to be any where near combat. Yes, travel is likely when joining the Air Force, as training locations depend on job, and opportunities arise for TDY’s and other assignments.
lol that job is literally for infantry of the marines and army, don’t worry
Exactly same like Indian Air force ❤️
Wow, I never new there was an Indian air force.

Thank you for this😎👍🏾
Glad it helps! Thanks for watching!
You did a Dorm tour.. i commented, but haven't heard back.. what base are you at? Dorm looks nice..
Sorry about that! Lot goin on right now! That’s at Shaw AFB.
I am in 10th grade I’m in that stage when ppl ask what I want to be in 2 years I’m so confused on what I’m going to do
if you’re in the Air national guard are you still able to get these same benefits?
Most yes, I’m not 100% sure on guard but I know it’s very similar, especially if you’re on active orders
What if your religous and your not allowed to cut your own hair is there a way I don't have to cut my hair?
That’s a great question to ask a recruiter, I’m not sure what their requirements are on that aspect but I know for a fact that I’ve seen males with beards due to religion and things like that so maybe you’d be able to. I’d definitely ask! Best of luck!
Alec Mendez Thanks for the feedback I will ask my recruiter for more information
Con: after you get out, you will wish you had gone into the marines. As former USAF security forces, this is only how I feel probably.
Why
@@harrylozano4778 I feel that way because I feel I didn’t do enough. Security forces think they are tough shit. In reality they are not. At least I felt that way.

When I was in it was called BAQ and BAS.
I have a question, after the basic and bootcamp, are you allowed to have a cell phone on you at all times or at certain hours or just not allowed to have your phone?
Depends on your tech school but once you’re done with training you’re free to have your phone in most occasions, only things such as secret/ top secret workplaces have restrictions

Do you still get the benefits when your contract is over ? And off the normal civilian life ?
You still get VA benefits and GI bill benefits. Some medical benefits with the VA as well
The only thing that concerns me about joining the Air Force is school. From other videos I’ve seen they say it’s very difficult; also that you’ll have no social life if you do. I’d prefer to not drag out my school as I want to be done and over with it ASAP. What’s your opinion?
Are you taking about college or USAF technical training?
How’s the reserves looking like?
Quick question: how do you go about switching bases across the world?
If you move from one place to another, it is because of the Air Force needs not yours.
