It's the titanium dioxide in the white paint that becomes black and when heated at the right temperatures and speeds, bonds to the tile. This will work better with non glazed tiles (available on Amazon) than it does on glazed tiles. This method seems to work best with diode lasers due to their lower power. I'm guessing because the K40 is the lowest powered CO2 laser is why it worked so good for you. I've been struggling to get good results with my higher powered CO2 laser as it seems to either burn off the paint or to only produce light grays.

It is very difficult to get a good black result. A lot of it has do with the paint. On a side note, make sure that the grey your getting is a result of the laser interacting with the paint and not engraving into the actual ceramic. You'll know you have it right when the dots placed by the laser firing is raised above the surface.
@@charlesrosenbloom4140 It's a tough balance. You have to experiment with speed and power to get the right combo. In addition, I have had the best luck if I keep the DPI around 150
The best thing would be to get a test tile and slowly ramp the power up from zero until you start getting an image visible. The CO2 lasers are so powerful that they will often blast through the paint and engrave straight into the tile. As far as automotive paint, I'm not sure. I do know that the active ingredient that reacts with the laser is Titanium dioxide, so if you find that present in the paint then there is a good chance that it will work.

I'm using a 40w Co2 laser. Your laser might work, but the only way to find out is to try. Using the right paint, other than your power setting is probably the most important part of the process since it is the laser reacting with some specific elements in the spray paint that allow this effect to take place.
I can't provide any feedback on the Ortur since that type of laser is so different from the Co2 laser that I use. If you search "Norton white tile method" on Facebook, you will find a few communities of people who might be able to help you with your specific laser. As far as the black acrylic paint goes, most people use a lacquer based spray paints for better results. And a quick FYI, using black spray paint will not give you the result demonstrated in the video.

Some can. You will have to test different speeds and powers to find out.
what did you do that it automatically knows that corner is the origin.

How long did it take to engrave that tile?
It took about 25-30 min to engrave the Scarlett Witch tile if I remember correclty

A diode laser is superior to a CO2 laser in regards to the tile ingraving. Also spray paint with high levels or titanium dioxide work best.

You might be able to. You would need to test to see if the laser is strong enough to react with the white paint
