Poor Magical Doremi never stood a chance in the US. It's a slice of life kids show, and US audiences likely gravitate more towards towards action anime.
great video!! I was introduced to Ojamajo Doremi through the 4kids dub, and as a kid, I didn't really understand the differences between originals and localizations, so I loved it! I was so crushed when they stopped airing it right before Onpu's debut episode 😂 I'm always sad that Doremi didn't get as popular in the US as Toei's other works because the dub was not handled well 🥲 maybe sometime in the future it could get re-dubbed, but like you said, I doubt it. maybe Doremi will have a revival series for its upcoming 25th or 30th anniversaries but that's just a wish of mine
While I vastly prefer the Original, The dub is honestly really fun, the whole tone feels so different with its localization, cartoon sound effects, and songs (which makes me kinda think, isn't it odd the original series doesn't even have too strong of a musical theme despite the name?) I just love them little wiggly witchlings. Maybe someday we'll get another try at a dub... It would definitely spark a new wave of fans too
@@Violentinthedaylight Oh, I'm aware, I just find it a bit odd they all have their musical instruments and all, and obviously Doremi's name is a reference to music, it feels like the show would have more musical themes than it does.
Considering that Toei will NEVER make any more PRECURE English dubs I don't that Doremi will EVER get the other 3 seasons that Japan got as a English dub ever either as for other Doremi's like Doremi Sharp etc those NEVER left Japan and likely NEVER will get a English dub.
I had an unhealthy obsession with this show as a kid. I would go onto the 4kids website and watch the first season several times. I would even sneak in the middle of the night to watch episodes during school nights. So, when I discovered that there was more than just the first season my 10 year old brain went feral. Thanks for reminding of me of such fond childhood memories it's a shame the show didn't become popular.
I remember staying up all night waiting for 5am just so I could watch my favorite shows on 4kids like Sonic X, Kirby right back at ya, Mew Mew Power, and of course Magical Doremi. I remember enjoying Magical Doremi when I was a kid and I was disappointed when it was canceled. Tho maybe it would've gotten more traction in the US if it didn't air so early. Because I hated staying up all night to watch these shows.
While we never got this dub on UK TV officially (Which may be for the best), From what I watch the first episode of the show (Both 4kids Dub and Original Japanese Dub). It was alright for the dub and I kind of wish it got a more faithful redub with the original soundtrack (with the intro, songs and credits lyrics translated into English), tone down the americanization and the redub aiming at a around 7+ demographic with no E/I involvement (Rating U - PG). Also at 11:45. I curious if the original plot of that episode was banned or undubbed/skipped in other dubs of this show seen that episode could be problematic for other countries as well. Heck, if this show got a native english redub, This episode would most very likely get banned or skipped which is I personally think is fine unless that episode has a ongoing story arc which could cause a problem if it got banned but then again, I only watch the first episode as I writing this comment.
I know there's a few visual errors in here. That's because I failed to catch them in post, and I sincerely apologize for it. However, seeing as you all are enjoying the video so far, I'm going to leave it up as it is. Unless, of course, you want me to put up a more polished version. Just let me know down below.
I always did enjoy catching this on the weekend. I was older than the intended audience, but I felt it had its charm to where you could enjoy it for what it was. Great Video!
I think all the 4Kids censorship just ruined the potential of all the shows they aired. Doremi was big in Europe (France, Spain, Portugal) and Latin America (Except Brazil where the show was not broadcast or dubbed) and it didn't have to make any changes to the shows for that. Honestly, it's really bizarre the inability of Americans to deal with different cultures (in the past).
I am German and sadly they only dubbed the first 2 seasons which were pretty decent and not heavily consored. Too bad the TV-channel airing anime shows collapsed. Otherwise I could have seen the later seasons as well. However I am currently learning spanish and once my skills are decent there are a couple of shows I want to watch.

I totally remember this dub. I even had the toys. Almost everything but the dress up dolls, lol. My mom and I used to watch this show together before she died, so as a little hard to go back to as the dub is, it's very nostalgic for me. Just sucks it wasn't given a chance to thrive.
Oh boy this is a topic and a half. Your video was very enjoyable and I think gets across a lot of the good and bad with the show and overall in the time it had here in the west. Regardless of that I enjoyed this video a lot, namely at the mention of many changes the dub had which I and a few of my friends discussed as well as your positive ending with it which I think is a good way to go out on a dub that is not that great but still meaningful. Like with many of 4kids catalog I would never have discovered or cared about it if it was not for watching it as a kid. And as a kid I was a massive fan. I loved the music, the episodes which I watched countless times on my computer on the website. And even just the overall look of it. It was something different from 4kids other shows for being a more slice of life type of series. It’s arguably it’s greatest strength to me as a kid and yet it’s greatest issue. While the issue you address of magical girl anime not being as necessarily wanted dubbed as others is true. I think another issue is that Doremi is a very different magical girl show than Sailor Moon was. It has almost no action besides a few magical battles that are more comedic in tone than anything. It’s a slice of life show and while that helped it to stick out to me and make me a fan, I feel it helped to be a death note for this show in terms of gaining fans. Especially compared to the other anime 4kids had at the time it’s easy to see how it would not catch on to everyone like something like Winx Club or even…Mew Mew did if briefly (Although at least Doremi had all 50 episodes they wanted to dub dubbed so that is still a win over that dub). Still honestly this anime is very dear to me not only for nostalgia but for 2018 where I decide to finally watch the show as a whole again even watching the seasons I knew existed as a kid that were never dubbed. And while it was nostalgic it was also truly an experience I am glad to have as it put me on the track of going to other shows I loved as a kid and seeing more of their OG versions and especially becoming the reason I fell in love with what I like to think is Doremi’s successor in Pretty Cure. dude Americans don't like censored stuff either also your the one being offensive by lumping all Americans in as one it was a company that censored and edited Japanese culture from a lot of iconic shows from Japan none of the audiences wanted it but a lot of the viewers were literally around 8 when this stuff aired.
