Just saw these small lockboxes on sale at Home Depot for $15. I purchased mine a month ago at Cabellas for $30. So, since you need to get the bolts anyhow, this is a one-stop shop for half price. Enjoy.
I added a lift point to the side of the lid. The box is so smooth it can be difficult to get the lid up in an emergency situation within such a small space as it is buried down in the console. I chose to use a drum head tension rod to make my lift point because is the right size and shape for the job plus they are already chrome plated, so it looks good.
you said 10mm screws in the video but list them as 6mm in the notes. Were you referring to the bolt head in the video and/or can you confirm the screw size I'll need?
@@Roadstercycle true I’m not so sure that the top couldn’t be pried off with out to much trouble. I’m in need of this to. As I carry most of the time. Thanks
Anything can be destroyed and stolen, even the $300 alternative. What I would do is keep my mouth shut and not tell anyone you are carrying and it's in the console.
@@Roadstercycle that’s true I don’t let anyone know. But my area has lots of car break ins around here. Also getting a lot of car jacking. But I will just keep it quiet. As far as with travel. I will have to keep in concealed and out of view.
Brotha If i could buy u a beer I would u have saved me so much money going this route thank you 🙏🏽
That's great. I was looking at the $300+ solutions you see online, but I like your solution a lot better.
Exactly what I was looking for. Thanks for sharing!
Man this is great. I'm going to do it but for documents/passports when I travel to MExico. Brilliant!
Thank you, I figured $350 for a console safe was a bit much so this was the answer.
You just saved me $300.

Do you know what model/brand it was?
@@patrickcline5944 I don't recall, but it looked comparable to what Cabellas offered at half the price.
Bro slick af

Do you have the measurements for the location of the holes that need to be drilled into the safe?
The center to center distance is 4.350". the distance from the rear of the box, (flat area) is 2.1 inches.
Will it fit a 2023?

Hi, I don't have the truck here. Just pull one out and measure the thread size and buy one about 1/4" longer. Sorry about the mistake in the video.
Hey bud. Is that a p938? I got the same one. Great choice if it is!
It is. It is a great little tool. Very accurate.
@@Roadstercycle agreed. sig is 👍
Just curious, why did you need to change the screws out? Could you not use the original ones, or are they too short once the lockbox goes in?
That's the reason.
Why do I need new bolts?
The stock bolts where a bit short for my liking. If I remember correctly they only caught a couple threads thus I suggest longer bolts.
@@Roadstercycle Good to know, Thanks, and have this project on my list tomorrow.
Isn't the glove compartment already lockable?
Doesn't matter if it does. It's illegal. Glove compartment and console do not count as a secure approved enclosure. Thus, my easy solution.
@@Roadstercycle Ca motor vehicle regulations are absurd... it's a wonder anybody even registers at all.
What would stop someone from unscrewing and removing the whole box.
You can't take it out without opening it up first. The bolts are locked inside.

Doesn't sound like you need a gun safe. Sounds like you need a U-Haul to get the heck out of there.
Cool
