    This was amazing. Definitely one of if not the best Let's Plays I've ever seen. I'm gonna be 100% honest, I hate Twitch. In the earlier years I had worse hardware and worse internet, so it never worked right. In later years, I came to hate the design decisions and some of the "injustices" on it. And no matter what year it never seems to work on my phone, app or not. But I've always loved your content ever since I decided to check it out after TRG. Some of the most well paced, cleanly edited, and funny playthroughs out there. Really a peak of the entire genre for me. But the fact you kind of, disappeared, especially after that wonderful wonderful Wario Land playthrough, really had me sad. I knew you were active on Twitch sure but it just, wasn't my thing. Seeing you come back with such huge promises, and then exceeding them, has absolutely made this already good year for me even better. Thank you for everything, Jon.

      I’m just glad I’m not the only one. I don’t really have the time for the long fortune cookie streams, as cool as they are, and always missed Jon’s LP’s . Like, I’m super glad he did well for himself, that’s way more important, but I always missed them. I was always excited for when I remembered him talking about a DKC project he had planned, and this exceeded my wildest dreams.

    Here's a thing I learned about Tanked-Up Trouble. I once let the rail barge lose all fuel and fall off of the map while I was on a platform with no way forward, just to see if anything would happen. To my surprise, there IS an event for this so you don't have to self-destruct: if trapped without the barge, Donkey/Diddy will automatically perform the "you failed a bonus game" animation complete with the music, and then you lose a life.

    This is potentially the greatest LP you've ever done, and it has some serious competition for me to say that. A truly comprehensive LP of Donkey Kong Country, not just a game, but as a whole, with plenty of silly jokes and dumb quirks along the way. This is peak Proton Jon, pure and distilled, and it's why I've been subscribed for years upon years. Spectacular work, Jon.

  • @ShinyGaara65
    @ShinyGaara65 3 года назад +100

    This LP was made for me, it feels like.
    I'm a big fan of meta-humor, playing with the metatextual stuff in story. Sometimes it can be done really well, sometimes...not so much. Stuff like Deadpool, Serious Sam, stuff that can make fun of itself while still being a good series with things to grab you, that stuff just entices me.
    And doing this like a Let's Play where the game literally goes through every single version of Donkey Kong Country, even the bootlegs, and notifying every change possible...that's a treat. You are dedicated to sparkle motion, Jon. I've heard rumors about the Sonic 2 special edition, sometimes glanced the TVtropes page, but I never tried to experience it myself. Now...this is my generation's SomethingAwful Special Edition game: a fun run through Donkey Kong Country complete with wacky hijinks, in-jokes, the casual warping of time and space (well, could be bigger :P ), and an intent to teach something about a very important game originally released in the SNES library. So thank you, Jon. Thank you for being the creative bag of fun on streams and LPs that inspired a friend, fueled a lifestyle, and got me into collecting games from my own childhood, like-
    OH GODDAMNIT JON THAT FUNKY BIT AT THE END KILLED ME! XD

    This LP felt like the perfect blend between your more structured RUclips LPs and the chaos that happens weekly over on Twitch. Knowing DKC, I knew what to expect out of the game itself, but in terms of how it was delivered, I was always kept guessing, never knowing what form the Kongs would take from moment to moment, video to video. You, Time Thief, and everyone else who contributed to the project should be proud. This will probably go down as one of my favorite LPs ever. Bravo!

    • @Armaldo468
      @Armaldo468 2 года назад

      Hell, a lot of Cranky Kong’s remarks not only hold up, but continue to get more and more relevant the more obsessed with high-end graphics and flashy fluff people become. It is ridiculous how easily the masses are wowed by shiny things. Fucking birdbrains. (Wait, that’s not fair-not fair to the birds, that is. Birds can sometimes be kind of dumb, but not to the extent that people tend to be. Some birds attack their own reflections because they don’t understand the concept of reflections and think they’re being directly challenged by rival birds, not because their brains are unstable and they care far too much what others think.) All it takes is the latest graphics, superfluous bells and whistles, and/or “socially conscious” content (which is entirely subjective and essentially just based on whatever’s trendy in society at a given time), and scores of ravenous mutants will flock to game stores and eat these products up no matter how soulless, sloppy, or shitty they are. It’s embarrassing and endlessly frustrating-especially for those of us who care more for substance and stability than superficial nonsense. I don’t care how pretty something is if it either has no heart or is warped at the core. (Incidentally, these last two sentences generally apply to my views on pretty much everything-anything from video games to people to clothing, and everywhere in between.) Little wonder I don’t give a rat’s ass about 99% of new releases.

    • @Armaldo468
      @Armaldo468 2 года назад

      Excuse the rant; I tend to ramble a lot-partly because I have a lot to say, and partly because I’m just wordy by nature. Also I relate to Cranky alarmingly well, considering I’m only about a year older Donkey Kong Country.

    Donkey Kong Country 1 for me is up there because it's the only game you can play through in a single sitting. I made a habit of replaying the entire game, start to finish, every Christmas, because the game takes me back to the Christmas I got it in 1995. DKC2 is a great game, but it's 2-3 times longer than DKC1, so it turns in to a game I start a lot but never finish as often. And DKC3... that game feels like a combination of "these are the table scraps left over after 1 and 2" and "all our friends are off having fun working on N64 games and we're stuck on the SNES"

    This LP has to be the best way to experience DKC for the first time. Loving the lore implications, too.

    And so, as the Jons lay their controllers and handhelds down, their minds merged once again into the prime being. Jon took a breath. He sat back in his chair and for the first time in his lives, he was grateful for the fact that he had experience in time travel and spatial manipulation back from his adventures in the vast variations of Dinosaur Land.

    Jon out here with the only 711% run of Donkey Kong Country, complete with all the nightmare fuel of DK climbing out of a Game Boy Color.

    It's funny how Candy's Dance Studio was initially something I'd share to people purely for the "Oh god" reactions, and now people will remember you being obsessed with the minigame :P
    This LP was a lot of fun! The ideas for the meta LP really worked out really well thanks to there being multiple version of DKC (plus bootlegs). I always love it when there's some kooky narrative behind the Let's Play of a game beyond the game itself.
    "For all KONGs?" "Always."

    This was one crazy trip. Who knew Jon had powers to travel through the multiverse? I had a lot of fun watching this LP and this is one of my all time favorite LP's on RUclips ever. Excellent work to the entire Jon team from all multiverses!

    Loved this playthrough, especially the meta humor. Even as someone who hasn't played through the original games, this was a great watch, and I'm honestly re-encouraged to try this game again, considering the last time I played this I was a kid who thought this game was incredibly difficult on the GBA. I'm not even usually the type to enjoy platformers, funnily enough.

    Great LP! I love it when people twist the medium like this. It shows how creative someone can really be with something that’s otherwise just playing a video game while talking.
    Also, I honestly didn’t believe Donkey Kong 5: The Journey of Over Time and Space was real. Like, I looked it up after watching a second time and was shocked that the ending wasn’t some animation you had commissioned or something.

    I’m so glad I watch Jon’s streams from time to time and know about the multiversal John thing, so the ending of this probably threw me off somewhat less then others. Plus I’m a sucker for Multiverse concepts and the entire idea that this was somehow a John playing a weird Donkey Kong reskin of Super Mario Bros that also took him through multiple timelines, and then all of this was also caused by a version of RosaJon was really...interesting.
    John. If you ever see this comment, thank you for this weird, WTF, yet fun series of game I’ve played none of, in which after some episodes I felt like I was being slapped by what was happening. I wouldn’t be surprised if it had actually been a John who was somehow also reality itself that slapped me.
    Thank you again ProtonJohn!
