Just replayed the trilogy a few months back. My opinion of the first Splinter Cell actually went up all these years later. It was a really fun adventure. I always held it and Pandora in the same regard, but now I enjoy it way more. It has a touch of quality that wouldn't return to the series until Chaos Theory, and some of the levels are my favorites in the series (most notably Defense Ministry, Presidential Palace, and especially CIA HQ). It absolutely has some stupid parts (the large room with the flags in Chinese Embacy 2 can go to hell) and the lack of quick saves is almost torture at times, but for a first entry in a series, its a damn fine game imo. When it first came out I thought it was the coolest, most advanced game in the world, lol. Really captured the interest of a young me. I'm glad to say it still holds up all these years later. I'm excited to see what your thoughts on the rest of the series are. Its a bumpy ride, but its worth it. Cheers!
Splinter Cell is one of my all time favourite video game franchises. I'd love to hear your thoughts on the whole series if you're up to it but I highly recommend at least playing Chaos Theory. I'm not alone in saying that it's the best stealth game ever made, and it holds up so well to this day.

The first three are some of my favourite games of all time, especially Chaos Theory. Keep doing what your doing!!
9:25 Well, on PC you can save your game at any moment you like, so that makes things more convenient. Plus, it's easier to aim with a mouse. Speeding up or slowing down Sam's movements with the mouse scroll is a pain in the @$$ though...
Pandora Tomorrow is a masterpiece. Only problem is PT still relied on auto checkpoints which were introduced in Chaos Theory. Double Agent on 360 was also a great game
Chaos theory is , in my opinion, the best stealth game ever made. I have played it recently and it definitely hold up... outside of a couple minor things.
Even though I don't really feel that feeling anymore, Splinter cell was one of the first games that gave me a heart pounding gut wrenching feeling feeling I was a kid. Only game that gives me that feeling anymore is when I'm on a several hour long life in Dayz when I see another player.
I have fond memories of the first Splinter Cell - even though it was kind of frustrating at points, the interesting traversal of maps was cool, and the lighting system seemed totally cutting edge at the time. Having said that, Chaos Theory blew it out of the water. It refined everything set out by the first game and Pandora Tomorrow, and changed the way you approach levels. It was a bit more forgiving, as you weren't quite so fragile, but it felt like you failed a mission even if you managed to complete it in a sloppy way. Pandora Tomorrow was cool, and some set pieces were great, but I think that the main selling point of that game was multiplayer, which I think may be dead in the water now.

The PC version allow you to adjust your speed subtly with the mouse wheel making it imo easier to gauge how fast your able to get away with moving on certain surfaces.
When crouched, the lowest setting is safe. The second lowest is mostly safe. The third lowest can be mostly safe as long as you don’t use “move left” or “move right” and “move forward” at the same time. By “mostly,” I mean you should be stealthy as long as you’re not very close or on a loud surface.
Absolutely check out Pandora Tomorrow and Chaos Theory. PT is more of the same thing you got with SC1, akin to a full length expansion pack. CT, however, is a massive step up and alleviates a lot of the frustrations that the first two games are loaded with. Either way I'm glad you were able to get through the trial and error nature of the first game to enjoy it, I think that's the biggest hurdle to overcome when playing it in the modern day.
In my opinion the Cube version is the second best console version under the Xbox. The PS2 struggled a lot with this game and the GameCube version felt so much smoother in comparison.
Deeefinitely get Chaos Theory. It's like the first game but turned up to 11 in terms of all improvements made. Would recommend it on PC though obviously the XBOX version works just as well :)
You gotta play Chaos Theory, that's definitely the gem 💎 of the series besides the first one being very good. Hell, the second one is great in it's own merit, too.
One of firsts games on PS2, this totally blow my mind with the lightning effects, also the overall textures are pretty good also, and by that time, dude it was incredible! Took me months to finish it
This game was the future back then! Thanks for the review hope you do the second and third. If for some reason you burn out on the second..don't skip on the third!
I wouldn’t call myself a spy game fanatic, however, the Tom Clancy series is a stand out franchise at that. Excellent gameplay and very good action packed fun. Its only issue is the person-to-person quick combat. Even though, you are more than welcome to go blazing through enemies, they did not impliment it well enough to be worth it. For me, the stealth way is the only way. Feels tense but never unfair.
I'm not a huge fan of the first 2 games for being so linear and trial and error heavy, but I love Chaos Theory. Double Agent and Conviction are also decent and Blacklist is probably the 2nd best after CT. It'd be fun to see reviews for the whole franchise.
Blacklist takes itself very seriously, it's visually unappealing, and the night vision is kinda useless as well as being clunky to activate, but other than those issues it was fairly fun.
The stickycameras are an interesting one, they may seem useless but if you get into the rhythm of using them for headshots they knock people out and they bounce off of their heads so they can be picked up, they're great for no-kill runs and that's what I did:D
I loved this game as a kid, but I also never beat it because the last mission is insanely hard from what I remember. You’re getting shot at by like every guard from every direction and they have NVGs on too, so hiding in the dark doesn’t even work. That said, I miss true stealth games like these.
I really hope you try chaos theory. Pandora tomorrow is worth it, but it's not the best by any stretch. Chaos theory on the other hand, it's still a bit dated but its probably the best the series ever got
Hey. Thanks for this review. Splinter cell and his sequel Pandora Tomorrow are in my Top 10 Games of all time. Splinter cell was my reason buying a Xbox console in 2002, what was even my first 6th Gen console before I get my ps2 and gamecube. (I still prefer nintendo and Sony to this day)
Great review Spencer. You really went into a lot of detail and highlighted the good and the bad. To answer your question about movement speed on PC, it is controlled by the mouse wheel. It makes the movement feel a bit less authentic compared to the stick method. If you liked playing this game then you are in for one hell of a time playing the rest of the series, as it only gets better. Play the first 4 main games and you will have fun. Also, try and play Double Agent on non HD console as the HD version sucks ass.
I remember playing the first level of Splinter Cell on a demo disc for PS2. Was instantly hooked and felt so bad ass at the age of 8 (I played the whole game because my brother bought it and yes I sucked at it). Such a great series! I’m scared a sequel today would get messed up however…
Yah man i seen trailer long time ago on tv, then my dad bought the game, when playing i felt so bad ass, all in black waking in shadows with silenced gun, also back in the day there was lots of movies about spies and bank robberies so it give me more hype, last good SP for me was Chaos Theory.
Very first game I ever played on this series was conviction and it was cool as shit, especially on the hardest difficulty. Michael ironside is such a great voice actor man.

Well the PS2 version was a serious downgrade tho, even if it kinda made up for it with bonus stages.
The game was way more impressive on Xbox.
This game was the future back then! Thanks for the review hope you do the second and third. If for some reason you burn out on the second..don't skip on the third!
When you play Chaos Theory Will be more easy because that game you can save when you want
This was my childhood. Well, a part of it. I mean, I was 4 or 5 and the satisfaction of being able to complete a mission was the best thing ever.
On pc version you performed stealth my changing your movement speed with the scrolling wheel. It was intuitive an I really liked it.
Yes!!! Please do the whole series !!
Hey man, do you plan on reviewing Crash'N'Burn for PS2 / Xbox ?
Thanks for the video...my all-time favorite game series!
I hope you review the sequels!
The stickycameras are an interesting one, they may seem useless but if you get into the rhythm of using them for headshots they knock people out and they bounce off of their heads so they can be picked up, they're great for no-kill runs and that's what I did:D
Been playing them since the beginning. Splinter cell is my favorite.
9:31 you have to use the mouse wheel to adjust the analog speed Sam can move. It's lame but it works.
Well well here is a game I haven't played on in years hope you do review all of them at some point
This is an interesting choice well done colourshed
You're in for a treat if you've not played Pandora Tomorrow and Chaos Theory my friend. They're fucking brilliant.
Good review as per.
I have finished every Splinter Cell game *EXCEPT* this one. I want to see the end for myself haha!
Really? Its great and not all that long. Find a way
damn 1 and 3 are the only good ones : P
Ahh, this was the first game I ever played with my dad haha. Great work as usual Mr Shed
Been waiting for you to make a splinter cell video
A coulourshed review of one of my most beloved series. Dude.
I loved this game as a kid, but I also never beat it because the last mission is insanely hard from what I remember. You’re getting shot at by like every guard from every direction and they have NVGs on too, so hiding in the dark doesn’t even work. That said, I miss true stealth games like these.
Lots of Splinter Cell reviews recently, absolutely no complaints at all
Lots of reviews but no new games. Ah well, I'd rather the series be lain to rest than have modern day Ubisoft at the helm.
What a coincidence just started playing the series on ps3.
Also Micheal Ironside's voice is awesome
I really hope you try chaos theory. Pandora tomorrow is worth it, but it's not the best by any stretch. Chaos theory on the other hand, it's still a bit dated but its probably the best the series ever got
Pandora Tomorrow was amaziiiiiiiiiiiiiing
play it back compat if you have the disc on XB1 or Series X for a free performance and resolution upgrade.
Good review as always! But
The getaway black monday?
Black Monday was a great game that improved on most of the issues that the predecessor had.
Hey. Thanks for this review. Splinter cell and his sequel Pandora Tomorrow are in my Top 10 Games of all time.
Splinter cell was my reason buying a Xbox console in 2002, what was even my first 6th Gen console before I get my ps2 and gamecube. (I still prefer nintendo and Sony to this day)
Can’t wait for the Pandora Tomorrow review
I’m scared a sequel today would get messed up however…
Yah man i seen trailer long time ago on tv, then my dad bought the game, when playing i felt so bad ass, all in black waking in shadows with silenced gun, also back in the day there was lots of movies about spies and bank robberies so it give me more hype, last good SP for me was Chaos Theory.
the sticky camera is literally for distracting enemies and previewing areas, its very useful in no ko runs
Very first game I ever played on this series was conviction and it was cool as shit, especially on the hardest difficulty. Michael ironside is such a great voice actor man.
Very cool review :)
About the pc version, you can adjust the movement speed by scrolling up or down the mouse wheel
PS: I recommend that you try Chaos Theory, it's my favorite "classic" splinter cell :)
Chaos Theory is a stellar title that is the first game amplified and polished x3 in its quality, you wont be disappointed
the millisecond that piano stab comes i hit quick load, which fortunately exists on pc
That tom clancy game that ended up being xdefiant left me thirsty, so im gonna go re-buy all the old splinter cell games lol
the ps3 hd version lags a lot
sometimes when i save it turn back to the main ps3 menu
I’ll make a statement right here and right now. Chaos Theory is the greatest stealth game of all time.
💥💥 Ah the good ol days of gaming the 90s and 2000s
Bruh...if you liked this one, Chaos Theory is just *Muah!*
