Thank you so much for this video. I just finished my orientation at my ICU and will be on my own on my next shift. I broke down crying on my last orientation shifts because I felt like I was a bad nurse and I was never going to know everything all the experienced nurses know and that I didn’t deserve getting this job fresh off school. Your video encourages me to push through it and stay more positive. Thank you so much. I just got to do my best one shift at a time :)

i’m not even in nursing school yet (just doing my prereqs) and i’m already anxious ab working as a nurse. i think about it all the time and i’m stressing myself out for no reason. i just can’t stop thinking about the overwhelming future

Not to mention when you’re in nursing school, you’re literally not permitted to do anything without your clinical instructor or professor present. So we learn to not be confident- that we’re dangerous without the supervision of others. Suddenly after graduating and starting, it’s totally different and you’re expected to do everything.
When I started in 2005, I had older, more experienced mentors who taught me so much and most importantly gave me confidence. I hope newer nurses being minted now feel they have the same.

Oh I’m a new nurse I’m having a hard time, it’s been three days I feel so hope less, sweating so much during my med pass because I have to look for the medication, know it of cos but it’s taking me a long time. Then new admits. , so much going on. I look at the other nurses and say lord I hope I get to that point when I know what I’m doing.

So well articulated. I feel all of this. I've been a new grad on a step down ICU/ med surg for four months. Everyone says I'm a great nurse and they keep putting nursing students with me. But I'm so stressed, ALL THE TIME. It sucks when I have a heavy group and then there putting new nurses with me.

I am a new grad RN and just got my first job! Orientation is all next week and after that I’ll be with my preceptor for 8 weeks on med/surg. I am so nervous and am experiencing impostor syndrome already even though I am not in any specialties yet :’( Thank you so much for your video!

Do you suggest working in the ICU straight out of nursing school? I graduate in May and I loved my ICU rotations, but my professors are pushing Med/Surg to build skills. I would greatly appreciate your input! Thank you for making this video- it is a big reassurance to know I’m not the only one feeling overwhelmed 💛

Do it! It’s super stressful and huge learning curve, but even those with med surg experience still have a rough time transitioning into icu since the critical thinking and flow is so different. You can do it! I am🙏🏼
