I’ve been a nurse for 8 years and still learn new stuff everyday. First few years I felt like an idiot. Even to this day I still feel like my a&p fundamentals are slipping, especially since I specialize in chemo. My day to day routine is so specific and routine. I do my best to take continuing Ed classes to stay in sync and keep my mind sharp.
“God will not bring you here if you are not prepared for this” 🧡
I dont mean to be off topic but does someone know a way to log back into an Instagram account??
I somehow lost the login password. I would appreciate any assistance you can give me
So so true about textbook nursing vs real life nursing! I also found that its just super exhausting to be constantly learning, which you are doing as a new nurse. But as autopilot develops your brain can catch a break and things get so much better!
Girl this video came right on time. I’m 2 months in as a new ER nurse and I was just talking to my friends about this. At this point, I don’t think I went to nursing school either 🤦🏾♀️
I just accepted a job offer in a nurse residency program, I’ve been googling for the past few days “how to not be an idiot as a new nurse.” I finish school in just under a month and I am TERRIFIED 😂❤️
Cassie Culbreth U GOT THIS!
This is how I feel, I just started(new grad)! I ask soooooo many questions because I really don’t remember anything. But I just pray and going to continue to move forward
Ke Ke u will be fine its new u will get used to it , you got this I have faith in you
“Born out of my mother’s cooter”. 😂😂
Any pre-nursing students out here who feel dumb? Cuz meeee 🙋🏻♀️
lizziebeth I’m feeling dumb reading these comments
🙋🏽♀️🙋🏽♀️🙋🏽♀️🙋🏽♀️🙋🏽♀️🙋🏽♀️🙋🏽♀️🙋🏽♀️
The learning curve is STEEP, but it gets better! I’m considering switching specialties but idk if I want to go through that again 😂
I feel dumb as a third year med student 😂
I could cry right now because I know I’m not alone. I did very well in school and always felt like information came easy to me but lately as a new nurse I feel like my mind has failed me and I feel incompetent because I can’t remember everything that I learned 😢thank you so much for this video.
I’m only 14 but I’m trying to learn as much as I can before college and I know that I’m going to be a nurse and you inspire me and have taught me so much!!
Sammi Watson u got this :)
You're going to do great! Best of luck to you on your journey! 💘
Just stay focused all through high school, especially in your sciences & you’ll do great 💖
Nursing Gee can u give me advice for 1 year nursing school?
Samee
Those IV lines and pumps will forever be my personal nightmare
I agree I don’t think clinicals are all that helpful in terms of how to be a nurse. You get comfortable around patients and the gross stuff but mostly it’s stuff that you will be delegating as a nurse and feels like free labor for the facility. You get to pass meds and every once in a while you have a cool procedure come through that you get to watch but otherwise I feel like my time working as a PCT in the hospital was enough to prepare me for what I was getting myself into.
Thank you :) I’m in a licensed nurse resident, jumping from one unit/dept to another every 6 weeks. I feel like an idiot most days. Not only are we learning how each unit/dept operates, we are learning the mundane operations of the floor. I’m 3 months in, the excitement is over and I’m questioning my life decisions haha thank you for the support.
Procrastinating nursing school study with watching the nurse nook fam 🙋😂
Bella Finney me
THIS VIDEO RESONATED WITH ME SOOOO MUCH! Connecting what you’ve learned in the textbook and applying it to real life is HUGE and I am definitely learning that a year into nursing school
Thank you so so so much for making this video! I’m a rising senior in nursing school who has a new(ish) tech job at a hospital, and I’ve been feeling like this EXACTLY and questioning if I made the wrong decision with deciding to be a nurse. It makes me feel so much better knowing that these are normal feelings
Thanks for the encouragement. I just started on my unit and man I tell you, when you said "did i even go to nursing school?", I felt that. I'm still trying to remember everything from patient histories to facility protocols and what's challenging is learning something one way during practicum and then being on your unit and having to relearn it based on their protocol. I'm trying to learn how to efficiently remember the histories, and do my task lists and think critically, and well it's hard and intimidating and sometimes I get discouraged. Again, I appreciate your understanding words. I'm trying to find my "flow", different ways to write pertinent information on my "brain" and to be present, but I guess it just takes practice.
hi,im a male nurse,i felt really good reading your comment. :)
@@Everythinz I’m glad it could help! Good luck!
Can you do a video on the difficulty of nursing school versus pre- nursing. I've been passing all my prerequisites with at least a B but it feels like if this is a struggle for me maybe nursing school will be way too much.
K'shawnn Walker u can do it!
K'shawnn Walker i have faith in u
You will get through it!! I promise! I just graduated nursing school in May and passed my NCLEX in July. I went through nursing school with all B's and like 2 A's thrown in. You are doing great!! You will get there! Best of luck to you on your journey! 💘
Great video idea!
Taely Lee 💜💜💜 u motivated me
Literally spoke to my coworker who has been a nurse for 5 years about this today!!!! Omg God bless you!
this video came at the perfect time. i’m in my first semester of nursing school but i’m already being so hard on myself because i’ve been making small mistakes and i need to be more assertive. i’m not confident in myself and it shows 😭
I’m so happy you spoke on this topic . As a new nurse I feel like this. Especially it doesn’t make it any better with experienced nurses stepping on your toes as if they haven’t been in my shoes before. Ridiculous right? My first day I was so stressed lol
Paige Hall yes! Mine too, that old nurse shade is real! But I am committed to my nurse career and my knowledge.
Thank you for this
My boyfriend and I are starting nursing school in a few months and we watch your videos every single day. We love you Alexis!!
Thank you for being SO real with it all!!! You hit it right on with Everything👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍😊😊😊😊
This is so true for me. This can apply to anything really. For me it’s driving. Going to college this year for nursing so I’m getting all the knowledge I can
Love your videos and to see how far you’ve come as a nurse!! Could you maybe do one about your experiences with really scary tx like TPA, or really critical patients?
You are AMAZING! I wish I had someone like you when I started as a nurse.
Havent watched the video yet because im at work 😈 but girl i just wanted to get on here and tell you how much of an inspiration and motivation you've been to me in my nurse journey. Im currently taking my prereqs and every time i feel a little burnt out I watch your videos to remind myself to keep pushing and one day i will become a nurse just like you! 😀 thank you nurse nook!
Me too! I am also taking my prereqs and will be applying to the nursing program after two more semesters. I wish you the best of luck!!! Love the Nurse Nook!!❤❤
@@kristinewalley7828 best of luck to you too! 🤗
This video was so on time! I just finished my second week as a new grad on a telemetry/intermediate care unit , I feel dumb as ever lol but this video reminded I wouldn't be here if God didn't want me to, I'm here for a reason and I'm just getting my bearings!!!! Thank you for this video!!!!
I like this video. I am in my senior year of nursing school again because I couldn't get it right the first time. I was very down and hard on myself about failing my course. I agree with clinical being more about doing what the nurses don't want to do, which was fine except when I have these exams I don't know anything because I cannot connect anything to the hospital. However, I just got a job as a PCT in the NICU and I am so excited because the NICU is where I would like to be after school. Hoping this experience will help me a little more. Thank you for your very informative videos!!!
I remember when u had around 10K now look at u you go girl so proud of u ❤️🙌🏾
Omg i needed this video. In week one of orientation as a new grad and BOY did i feel stupid this week! Its like I know the knowledge is there, but Im just so nervous because I have a license now and things are MY responsibility that everything literally just flies out the window and im asking my preceptor questions all day long...even remedial questions. Yeesh. I feel like a new nursing student all over again. Ive decided to write down things I need to improve on and things i did well after each shift. And ive also tried to start looking up things I dont know/remember from school. For example, one of my patients had a left bundle branch block and i for the life of me could not recall what that even looked like on tele strips (ive never seen that rhythm in real life). Even doing my assessments and passing meds im frazzled because I dont want to make any serious errors. The other new grads seem to know what they are doing...and then theres me...just trying to make it through 😂😂
I am in my second week and i feel the same way.I want you to know that those new grads are struggling just like you.
Just started a new job as a new grad and I NEEEEDED this video
I’m a newbie nurse and i’m undergoing the same thing! Pls do more vlogs like this please 😊 Thankyou for being such an inspiration to all the nurses! Godbless you more. ❤️
I’m one of those people in your dm’s!!!! And you replied!!! Thank you ♥️♥️♥️
It will be my fourth night as a new grad in the ER and I needed to see this. Thanks so much for this!
How’s it going!?
That’s a good analogy that if you can teach it to a 5 year old that’s how you know you know it. Starting my pre-nursing classes this fall. I’m excited and nervous
Great vid! I definitely needed to hear this!
"out of my mother's cooter" 😂 omg, that is exactly how I feel right now in the ER.
I love this so much! Thank you 🙏🏼
4:21 thank you so much I am taking an accuplacer test for college classes I'm still in 10th grade tomorrow and I've been praying for this test and this is just what I needed to hear thank you😭💛
Ashleyy good luck! I took it in the 8th or 9th can’t remember but it’s easier than it seems. You’ll do great👍🏼
Thank you for making this video. I had my first orientation shift today, the nurse I was buddied with made me feel like a complete idiot. Literally I was giving report and she would cut in and give information from 4 days ago just to cut me down. I hope I’m never like that.
I’m already a nurse LPN but I’m about to start an RN bridge program, eve though I have 7 years of nursing experience I’m still worried that I’m going to have that “I feel dumb” feeling!!!
P.S I started a RUclips channel Chronicling my journey 💉💜👩🏻⚕️
So I really want to become a nurse but my family always makes me feel dumb and I know that I can do it I believe in myself, sometimes they make me think twice but I feel that you have helped me to become a nurse 🙏🏼🧡
Thanks for the encouragement.. Im a pediatric nurse for 9 months but still I feel dumb!! I feel you girl💉💉😥😥
As a new nurse, there was never a time I didn't feel dumb and it took a while to gain confidence.
Omgggg I am not alone in this🙏🏻😭💙💙💙 I also feel like I don’t know anything but this video made me feel a lot better and also the comments ♥️thank you all
I just started as a new grad nurse and I feel like everything is sooo foreign and I feel dumb asf 😭
I just passed my NCLEX in July and just got hired on at my hospital as an RN. I recently went to my first RN educational meeting and felt so dumb! I am so nervous and scared to be actually taking care of patients on my own now. I totally need this video! Thank you girl 💘💘
Wow! Congrats in all the success you're receiving. You're not dumb. You've worked so hard to get where you are so you def deserve it! 😌
Taely Lee can u give me advise for first year nursing school
@@curlyceibena6514 Thank you so much!! 💘💘
@@abinayaravinderan9338 Yes of course!!! First year of nursing school I say: develop a good study routine meaning how frequently you study, how you want to take notes, tutoring (if that's what you like), etc. Develop a good relationship with everyone in your cohort! This will help tremendously! Ask questions, participate in your labs (if your school does labs/simulation labs), don't be afraid if you make mistakes take them as learning opportunities and don't forget to take time and make time for yourself. You'll do great! 💘
Taely Lee 😊💜 thank you💕
Confidence is KEY
Thank u I needed to hear this
And here I just thought I was dumb as a new nurse
Week 5 of 1st level RN school and I feel this already! Trying to stay positive though
New in ICU and I feel so inadequate. I’m so scared to be on my own. I feel like I’m incapable of caring for patients. I seriously hate it everyday and nursing is the only thing I’ve ever wanted to do... I hope it gets better because this sucks.
I’m on the same boat now. Are you better now?
@@hnduil still hard but it gets better !! Helps to have a supportive team!💜
I would love a video on time management. So many people say that time management is such a big struggle.
Thank you, im feeling the same as a new RN 😩❤️❤️❤️❤️🥹🙏🏼
Im starting nursing school here in Sweden this september and Im so excited! I am already a registered dietitian and have worked a couple of years in a hospital, but feel that nursing would be much more fun. But I am really nervous being new, this made me feel better
Sander Cohen lmao do not go into nursing because you think it seems fun. You will be disillusioned very quickly.
Kayla Cat I mean as in interesting, rewarding and so on.. not as in ”haha fun”.. maybe chose the wrong word since I am not english...
@@Jess-pe6vh ohh I see! Well I hope it offers you that, good luck ! :)
My first day on the floor ALONE is tomorrow! I was saving this video until tonight. I’m a hot mess but this made me feel better! 💖
Yay!! I'm so happy for you!! How did it go?
Jeanelle S hope it went well! I’m starting a nursing RUclips channel as well. If there’s anything I can answer that this amazing nurse hasn’t already, please let me know ☺️ No more of this nurses eat their young stuff ♥️
Justin Abbott better than expected! Thank you for asking!! I think my anxiety just made me think it was going to be so much worse but it wasn’t!
@@Jean-rx7dq I'm glad that it went well. I guess it's better now?!
Thank Goodness for this video!
Great video!! I’m a pre-nursing student
Great video! You look so good girl glowy and that hair 😍
I love your curls!
Last semester I started my clinicals, and I totally felt like an idiot first day on the floor- it slowly got better but I can’t imagine what it’ll be like when you’re solo dolo.
Great video as always. Make want to buy and try home chef one day.
Your skin is glowing 😻 I’m seriously debating curology at this point 🤔
Giuliana Herrera girl get the after dark face melt by steli cosmetics and you’ll be good to go with your skin
Can you do a video on paying for nursing school?
II just became a nursing assistant (or a Tech) so I could have more experience before becoming a nurse and I still felt so dumb. It made me even more nervous to be a nurse. Lol
You make me want to become a nurse but I keep doubting myself and I think that I will not be good enough. This video has really helped me believe in myself a little more I still don’t know if I am ready to commit to being a nurse but hopefully I will soon
Me too
Love your videos! ❤️
I know you always hear this but your hair is DA BOMB lol I already know when I graduate I'm going to have this issue of feeling incompetent. How long did this feeling last for you?
Oh lord. I am going to start preceptorship next month and this is how I feel. I am absolutely terrified. Plus not having that safety net you get in nursing school adds to the fear :((((((
When I was going to cna school I was so smart but when I got my certification and started working I felt so dum it’s like I didn’t know anything
Hey sweety love your videos !
How do you style your hair for work? I was wondering f you were having any ideas. I have hair thick and curly like yours and i always fond myself stretching it and straighning it because i feel like i dont like it up because it looks very frizzy. Although I really like my curls :( hope it makes sense
Love your videos ❤️❤️❤️
I’ve been working for a month.. and leave feeling so defeated everyday. My moms been a nurse forever and I really feel like a failure.. my depression is kicking OD but I just need more experience to go to a better facility
Exactly what I need hear.
Omg as someone who has anxiety and a learning disability I am so worried I will not be able to make it through nursing school or as a nurse. I am doing super well in my pre-reqs but I know that is nothing compared to the difficulties of actual nursing school. And to think that nursing school doesn't really prepare you for the job...
Hello I’m korean boy! 🇰🇷🇰🇷🇰🇷
I like your video 🙆🏻♂️🙏🏻✨
I’m your big fan ❤️💚💜🧡💙
I think I saw you comment on an ASMR video? Right?o:
Omg Love your hair color 😍😍
How long did it take you to feel comfortable in the ED? I started two months ago and I get sooo stressed in a code blue situation. Soo many people are in room and I’m scared about meds mostly because I was never prepared on how much or in what way do I push some meds. :/
I am confused. So I am going into a community college and taking my pre requisites and I am going to transfer to a nursing school. Do I have to take a test to get to that nursing school? I am not trying to get my associate degree from community college. I am just trying to take my requisites so that I can transfer. Why do I got to take a test to transfer? Love your videos btw❤️
OMGGGGG that’s me right now I’m school. I read my book and I’m like ok I get it. I see it in real life with the pt. Omg what is this?! What am I doing??!!! Wow I’m so glad I’m not the only one 😂
I felt exactly the same!
I’m a NICU nurse in New Zealand 👋
Do any student nurses (or future student nurses) have any particular questions I can answer as an RN? I’m sure this lovely nurse has probably answered most of them for ya ☺️
But anyway I’ve started a RUclips channel too and want to make my videos as helpful and pertinent as possible because I remember how hard it was being a student (or just a wannabe nurse lol). Will answer any and all when I start posting over the next few weeks! ☺️ Thanks xx
I am just waiting to be accepted into nursing school .feeling so nervous .bachelor programme starts in January .sigh .the wait is killing me
Girdishia Donatien Best of luck! ✨
@@lizzzie9747 thanks really appreciate it
I am so terrified watching this video at 2am since I can't go to sleep knowing that i have two days left before I start my shift as a new RN
Cried at work twice and told myself it isn’t my first nursing shift if I didn’t cry lol
I feel like that in nursing school... I hope I get a residence because God knows I need one ☹️ I feel like I need to be reprogrammed.
In swedish nursing school we go as trainees next to a nurse for multiple weeks in each semester, do you do that in the us? I’m starting the third semester out of six, we are gonna go 5 weeks next to a nurse in a hospital/nursing home.
matilda we do that here too :)) it’s called clinicals for us
