Aliens land in the first visitation, they are dubbed 'them', them are different from the black goo monsters as highlighted by one of the passengers when talking about their survival chance. Evidently from the claw marks on the guardian - they are massive creatures, when hurt their black blood overflows in rivers and their gigantic footsteps you see at the end of the game have goo in the bottom. These massive aliens also bring massive tech with them, as you can see throughout the world but something forces them to return to their own dimension (not planet). This creates the first visitation 'zone' this zone is filled with alien technology but it is also home to monsters and enlightened humans, this is a product of the gassing that was attempted on the humans. It is said the gas is some sort of human enhancer, whether this was a gift or the human enhancing effects were accidental, I do not know though it is probably made clear somewhere I just didn't see. After the first visitation hordes of settlers families arrive over the border, at first they are treated as immigrants in a very xenophobic society. Now sidenote, it is hinted at many times that the final stations world is an approximation of if not earth excluding the americas, the largest piece of evidence of this is porth wen which is a real town in the isles. Anyway Vermond white comes to power and unites (somehow) the remaining countries left alive with their governments becoming part of the council. He also rebuilds the first visitation zone and starts to recruit people to use the technology there. Now vermond white seems like a pretty neat guy, he isn't involved with any of the sketchy stuff and genuinely improves life quality. The problems come when his son Armand white comes to power and the enlightened people get involved. Now these enlightened people have congregated in the first visitation zone, they begin meeting eachother and discussing their situations and realise they've all been having the same dreams and visions which tell them things. Eventually a cult around the aliens begins as the enlightened see themselves as the chosen people, they are the ones enhanced by the gas. These people start to infiltrate government jobs around the border and eventually are able to construct portals to the aliens dimension using some variation of string theory as explained by the scientists apartment notes. The aliens seize the moment and give the enlightened places to work and give them a mission, to strike a deal with the humans, terrified of a second visitation. Obviously the humans have something that makes the aliens petrified of going back but with their double agents sabotaging the humans they can gain a proper foothold. The enlightened humans set up a plan, they choose out people to manipulate, to use and to slaughter. Meanwhile Armand white takes control after his father, Armand white though is not such a good leader he is more of a corrupt politician with the fear of the second visitation put in him by his father and willing to do anything to stop humanities collapse. He gives powerful jobs to oligarchic families, stations military all around the country, he sets sleeper agent all around the globe and starts construction on weapons intended to kill 'them' including the guardian many research projects and the belus trains. Armand is not so friendly to settlers though often excluding them from government jobs maybe in fear of infiltration but it is too late for that. With everything in place Armand is approached by the cultists with the deal, some humans will survive as enlightened ones whilst the aliens take the planet for resources or other purposes and Armand has to help them do this, near the end of the game this percentage of enlightened is revealed to be 20% of humanity but it is too late then to decline, the papers are just a formality. Armand and his corporate associates are ordered to build facilities studying the aliens in their dimension via alien technology using portals along the boundary for the first visitation zone, to sabotage vital parts of the guardian like the core and the brain which are both unstable and the brain diagram in the L-ABS vault has got warnings all over it. The general military and scientific fields underneath the government control are mislead and restricted with various laws meant to protect the aliens by eradicating human capabilities. They also further the research of new variants of goo monster to use as a weapon. Now it is time for the second visitation, the capsules start to land and the military is deployed inefficiently by the bungling council who are ordered to stay quiet amongst the chaos. You have been chosen to cart around different cargo in your belus train to blow up key locations and sabotage the guardian. You are doing the work of the cultists for most of the game. The initial attempts to que the invasion are faulty as 'them' become unstoppable, desimating cities in their path. Goo is also being released into the water supply. It is too late to stop the visitation. Armand realises he was tricked but also that he has to go along with it anyway. The cowboy hat man tries to gage whether you are immune or not so he destroys your train which has alien parts that protect you via radiation after the trains usefulness has passed. You eventually turn as the world around you starts to wake again. The aliens won. And humanity is lost forever. The only remains being robotic, dead feeling white eyed enlightened people constantly enslaved by the intentions of the aliens.
Gridlines is very atmospheric and depressive music, just imagine: the world has already died, there is no way to save it, just try to survive, the atmosphere is incredible

Паша Куприянов В таком случае 10 из 10. Без никаких даже сравнений лучший саундтрек, что только слышал в 2D игре. Да и вообще в Инди играх в целом. Охренительно. Only Traitor OST > Final Station OST
Funfact! They actually announced a sequal for this game way back then, but they never gave us any new updates on it ever since, it is presumable either being stuck in development hell or got scrapped for some reason. I personally would love to see a second game becasue it really does deserve a continuation, the story was amazing, the gameplay was fluid and in overall was great both musical and in visual story telling. I was so invested in the lore of this game and the way this "virus" spread and affected people. The first time I've seen the bunker with 1280 "UNKOWN SUBSTANCES" I was literally mortified.
Glare On Glass (49:40) sounds so relaxing and peaceful. It fits the levels it plays in. Old Bus (59:40) is also pretty calming - perfect for the pit stop levels.
Gridlines will always hit deep within me, this song marked me in a way that i cant ever get back from, the atmosphere of doomsday within this one OST is simply amazing
even this game being short and simple is still magnificent
well said
I wish The Final Station 2 is coming but Oleg doesn't said
It’s a masterpiece, ik I’m probably exaggerating but one of my favorite games.
@@ShonenDude03 it is definitely a Swiss cheese lore wise and is a one off game but, still great
@@ShonenDude03 he said he doesn’t have plans yet or at least until his next game is being completed
No other game DLC hit me like The Only Traitor did. That ending was so... wow. Still think about it from time to time. Send Me To The Void haunts me.
i'm glad i took the time to understand the story
Same feeling towards Send Me To The Voix lol it's such a weird feeling
Years later I still absolutely adore this game and sadly still haven't figured out the lore
