There's a little misconception with people thinking that only Asians can have monolids. I'm from Ghana (Western Africa) and I have monolids too, so I can understand why some people with Asian ethnicities would want double eyelids. I think that monolids are beautiful, but it's hard to do certain makeup styles that people with double eyelids do. Being a cosplayer, it's so hard following certain makeup tutorials or trying to do a certain makeup style when your eye shape doesn't want to work with you ahaha.
Most Asians have monolids, but people who originate from Africa and even Europe can have monolids.
I'm watching this, because I'm cosplaying as Uta (my profile picture) and he was a REALLY sharp point on the inner and outer edges of his eye. With my monolid, BOOM! The point disappears. Ughhhh

So true! One of my friends who's full black has full on monolids and she used to hate it when people thought she was part asian. I'm ACTUALLY part Korean and my eyes are just hooded and skinny, but I don't have a monolid. Still, I'd love to have bigger eyes for the same reasons you stated.

Same here, but for me I have some days where the double eyelid on my right eye will appear (I have no idea why, it's only my right eye). Winged eyeliner is a pain if my eyes are uneven because my eyeliner will always appear very unbalanced when my eyes are open.

As a person with double eyelids I find monolids extremely beautiful and I think that anybody with monolids should appreciate their eyes because they aren't as common and they are very beautiful :)
But ofc if having double eyelids would make you happier the go ahead but don't feel the need to change yourself in order no fit societies standards. You are beautiful just the way you are so don't change yourself for others but instead love yourself for who you are.

For everyone who says Asian eyes are beautiful and don't understand why they want to change them: They do it for the same reason that Americans love cat eyeliner, smokey eyeshadow, and generally makeup that lifts the outer corner of the eye. People tend to see things that are exotic as more attractive. Asians are exotic to caucasians, and vice versa, so they end up copying each other. This doesn't apply to every single person, obviously, but it has been the trend ever since the two cultures became exposed to one another.
I don't agree that Caucasians are exotic to specifically Asian-Americans. Our constructed standard of beauty in the US is based off of the (white) European model. Therefore, those who are outside of that beauty standard (Asians, Blacks, Latinos, and Arabs) are at a disadvantage. There are certainly cases where white people will go to far lengths to have Asian eyes - like that Brazilian guy who got surgery to look "Korean," but that is certainly not the norm.
Syd Lee I did not mean to imply that caucasians actually try to make their eyes look Asian. What I meant is that the most fashionable, basic eye makeup application in America is eyeliner that has an upward wing and shadow that accentuates the outer, upper lid, giving the eye an elongated and lifted appearance. By contrast, Asians tend to apply eyeliner that wings downward and shadow that accentuates the middle of the upper lid, giving the eye a rounded, down-turned appearance. Each, whether consciously or not, is mimicking the eye shape of the other. I didn't mention Asian Americans at all because that is a more complicated situation.

I think this simple trick to get double eyelid is just the same : KIND OF MAKEUP but not surgery , meaning that it's temporary by nature and you can remove the double eyelid tape whenever you want,SO WHY NOT ??

ilike pi Not in SK, where parents and friends talk about it openly. I think in western society, PS is looked down on, because people want to gloat about their bodies and say they were born with it. However, many teachers and people who work in SK and in many parts of Asia will openly tell their co workers and bosses that they will be gone for a couple days because they're doing PS on their face or body.
I really hope Western society could treat PS like Asian society, because it shouldn't be a problem if people want it. If they have the money for it and would be happier with it, then why not?

when i was a child i have double eyelids, at years 13 dunno how, but my eyes started to be monolids, and sometimes when i oversleep it becomes double eyelids for a few days, and then disapper becoming monolids again. isnt it strange? T_T

My mom is mono eyelids. But she changed it by continuesly using eyelid tapes and eyelid glues and after 1 year her eyes had double eyelids. I have mono eyelids too and I'm starting to notice differences after weeks of applying it.

I hate my monolids not just because of the makeup issue. Monolids also make me look more angry/tired even when I'm not :/ It's only those Asian fashion models in the West that have monolids because they think it's exotic. But you rarely see Asian celebrities with monolids...

I have hooded double eyelids too. The one sided eyelid stickers work really well to make them look bigger and more awake. i dont think the one sided give u wrinkles. overtime, they can be permanent.
thank you so much, i think this is something most asian girls should hear. where i'm from, in Korea, girls are really pressured into getting double eyelid surgery in order to achieve the more western style eye. they don't realize that those are their eyes and they should just be happy with that uniqueness.

i never thought about eyelids before i looked a video where ji Chang wook said about eyelids. Double eyelids are common in Asia ( Aryansof India, Nepal, Pakistan etc) . All Asian are not Mongolians at least in my country Nepal. Thank you for the video .

i completely agree with you. some girls just want their eyes to look a little bigger when wearing makeup and they just achieve that with the techniques shown in the video. that's like telling the good majority of people to stop wearing push-up bras...those obviously make people's chest sizes WAY bigger than they would look with a non-pushup bra....

i understand when people say "everyone should love themselves the way they are", and i believe that too. but, when we try to get the surgery to have double lids or do stuff like in this video, it is not to be another ethnicity. for me, it is to put on makeup properly. also, my mother has double lids. i am chinese, and chinese mothers can be strict. mine tends to say things like "i wish your eyes are mine" or "wouldn't you be prettier with eyelids like these?" she has even tried to make me get the surgery. that's why i use videos like this.

I'm partly Asian and have a hooded eyelid, it makes my eye look like it's a 40 year old's. I hate it. It's very hard to put on make up and it just makes your eye smaller and not cute at all xd

Actually you don't really need tapes or anything to have double eye lids. I'm a guy, I know it sounds silly but it's true. So I used to have really obvious double eyelids when I was a kid, then it started to go away since I don't remember when I got a habit of rubbing my eyes a lot. One day I looked into the mirror and saw my eyelids were pretty messed up ( one single one tribble). So, I tried to use a needle (not the pointy side) to fix the position of the crease by pushing it up higher, the result was pretty good and it could stay for the whole day. I've been doing it for about a year now and it's been working everyday like a charm, very even and natural way to improve the creases unlike what I've seen in this video... Here are some tricks I've discovered to achieve better result. Draw a clear line one the eyelid everyday in the same position with the back of a needle starting from the hollow part( far left of the right eye or far right of your left eye), repeat the line a few times to make it firm. Do not draw the line way too high or it's not gonna hold as good. Blink a few times after you are done. That's it! It takes time and patient if you want it to be permanent, so keep doing it until your eyelid adapts to a new crease.
PS: As a said I used to have double eyelids, so this method might not work for everybody, but would hurt if you try.
PSS: I'm not really a guy that super obsessed with prettiness. I never worn makeup and stuff. It just bugged me when I look into the mirror and see my eyelid so messed up. Hope this comment can help whoever want their eyes to look better.

and i think most cosplayers who doesn't have double eyelid would want to know how to do this, its hard to put eye makeup when you have hooded double eyelid because the eye makeup are going to be covered up (at least that was for me before I knew about how to make the double eyelid obvious), so I think this is pretty useful
n i think this doesnt only limit to Asian girls, anyone who has mono eyelid or hooded double eyelid is suitable for this. of course, doing it or not is your own choice

I'm asian myself. It's frustrating how our eyelids have so little space, that if we apply eyeliner, you guys wouldn't even be able to see it. Also, i have uneven eyelids. I know it's not the most serious issue in the world but you have no idea how annoying it is to stare in the mirror seeing one eye looking smaller than the other. Well, at least this is my case. So we're just trying to make it neutral. Not just asians, but girls everywhere who have uneven eyelids like me.

I'm not asian and I have one super hooded monolid which is better now since using this tape. It is still more hooded than my left eyelid but it's gotten better. I wear eyelid tape everyday on the duff eyelid. I have always hated having wonky lids. It gets me quite annoyed XD. This tape has been a Godsend. I have tried the glue but it's really messy and I can't get it to stick together and make a crease. All that happens is that it sticks to the spatula and comes apart again.

Exactly! And if you're like me where you have half monolids (double eyelid near the outer eye , and mono lids on the inner eye) I have to wear eyeliner incredibly thick so it's visible and doesn't smear onto my lid -.-

im sure you have hooded eyelids. the one sided stickers work really well and dont give you wrinkles. you can get 120 pairs on ebay for 99 cents plus free shipping! I use them and I love it. makes me look wide awake. i too have hooded eyelids.

My double eyelid slowly developed in the span of maybe 9 years??.. first was the right eye and after a while the left eye started to develop.. its really weird. Now i have them permanently but i could still turn them into a single eyelid for a couple of seconds..
I'm Asian and I have uneven double lids. My left eye's crease is larger compared to my right eye. I sometime just glue my right lid so it would match my left, or I glue both my lids to have mono lids. I think mono lids are very pretty. :3

i understand but i'm kind of speaking from personal experience. i'm korean and have lived in Incheon (the city districts) for most of my life and a lot of other koreans i know are told by many family members to get eyelid surgery and after graduation the family offers to pay for it as a graduation gift. and i think this is most common in the city while when i moved to Jeju, nobody cared and as for myself i'm constantly told by my mother to get eyelid surgery. but i'm happy the way i am c:

For those of the Asians who have monolids or little to no eyelid space, it's harder for us to apply makeup and/or make it look nice. Example, when I apply a thick line of eyeliner, when I open my eyes you can rarely see the line -o- With double eyelids, it's much easier for some of us to apply makeup ^^ hope it helped :>

Because people generally like double eyelids because it will make the eyes look bigger. Only a small percentage like monolids , like you. This is common sense. Just like most pinch their nose when they smell stinky tofu, but a tiny proportion like it.

Which method is your favorite? I've tried all of them and none is perfect. The double eye-lid tape is too obvious, even with makeup on. The double-sided tape makes it hard to put your makeup on. The fiber is too weak to stay on all day and you definitely can't do makeup on your eyes with the fiber. So far, I've been sticking with the one sided tape b/c it lasts all day. It's still not perfect b/c of how obvious it is. People can see them.

@ChanniFeathers because monolids make the eyes look sleepy and look so not energetic at all. Double eyelids can make the face look much more fresher and energetic and of course your eyes look much bigger. i know the feeling of having monolids because im one mono and the other eyes are double eyelid
Double eyelids makes the eyes look bigger there fore creating a dolly look which is why many asians like to have them. It is good for cosplay because it enlarges your eye so you look like an anime character with big cute eyes. :)

I'm Mexican and people always say I look Asian even if I have double eyelids naturally. my skin is pale and my hair is really really naturally straight. I have had people on MULTIPLE occasions ask me if I'm Japanese. I guess it doesn't depend on wether you have double eyelids or not but maybe also on other physical characteristics. I think monolids are super cute.
I'm mixed race but no Asian blood (that I know of). I don't have much eyelid space when I open my eyes and get an extra crease when I'm really tired. This looks like a good idea because I'm worried how surgery might turn out and its expensive.
usually, i have mono eyelids but sometimes my right eye alternates to a double eyelid, a lot. 1 con to be asian ._. but i'll try out these techniques. thank you for the upload.
I think its beautiful both mono & double. I think it sounds prejudice saying to embrace their heritage by staying the way it is naturally because as an American myself & im Puerto Rican & I have more mono then double lids & I myself use shawods & liners to enhance what I dont have to simply improve my eyes to appear larger. ANY person that uses make up, uses it to enhance their natural beauty but with more drama so no one can really say what one woman does is wrong or any less of whatever heritage they are, just be your most beautiful you & if you feel good how you look then more power to you. Lifes too short & in my opinion this world is "ugly" enough with people's bad attitudes & behaviors so if your making yourself happy then go for it. Bte, your beautiful in every look you did. honestly, i think its prettier to not have double eyelids. if u think abt it, most ppl do have double eyelid so it makes u special and one of a kind. plus if ur eyes r considerably big even with a monolid, u can think abt how small ppl with double eyelids eye's wud b if they didnt have it. plus, double eyelids make u look more feminine with bigger eyes but monolids has dis type of attraction dat makes u look sexy in a way and makes u look strong but also very beautiful. i personally find ppl with double eyelid look more weak and not so "sexy" as the monolid does. monolid is more cool, womenly, beautiful and sexy, double eyelid is more girly, cute, pretty but also beautiful. i find double eyelid and monolid botg equally as attractive.
I think double-sided eyelid tape is probably the easiest for me x'DD It's one of the least noticable and I don't always have a small pair of scissors handing
I have double eyelids but I don't understand why all you people want to change. I think everyone is beautiful how they are. But if you really want to change and I guess its just who you are. :3

@siimplyannabelle You're going need to use eyelid glue, normal glue isn't tacky/sticky enough. Eyelash glue can work too^^

I have double eyelids but it’s kinda hard to recognise when ur like a meter away from me but when u come closer you can clearly see it
