Ive never seen the movie but my dad rented it when it first released thinking it was a cowboy movie lmao... He wasnt too pleased.
Lmaoo
If you are into drama and sad endings watch it.
😂😂😂
Lmao
It is a cowboy movie. Like, a real cowboy movie.
Lmao
Tbh as a gay man, Brokeback Mountain is a powerful movie because most gay films are low budget and overly sexual to the extent of soft-core porn. Brokeback Mountain has a very powerful story. Also, for someone who isn’t gay to take that role, more power to them. It just proves how comfortable of a person you are with yourself. It also proves that you love acting. More props to him
Exactly. It was a story about real, complex human beings, not tired stereotypes
THISSS
I'm straight and this movie had such a powerful effect on me. I think it's one of the most romantic movies of all time and is great at just approaching it as a love story more than anything.
I think this is such an important film. Beautifully created and it's story has to be told.
"Proves how comfortable younare" lol u freaks are something else. I don't want to be comfortable with that perversion.
It takes a real man whose comfortable with his sexuality to play that role.
Exactly
Or just someone who doesn’t have many boundaries when it comes to acting.
Or just money
@Joe Farrier huh
@Joe Farrier Satan took the role? Oh my. I hope he wins an Oscar.
Pretty sure Heath Ledger wouldn't have been the Joker if it wasn't for him being in Brokeback Mountain. Nolan said the reason that he cast Ledger was because he was "fearless". I assume that is based, for the most part, on his courage to do Brokeback and the depth he put into that role.
It seems like Jake is saying that he essentially didn't think too much about taking the role, which I kinda admire, in a way. He was just thinking "Hey, this could be a really good movie.", and not making any political decisions and whatnot. "Fuck em"... lol.
Both of them did an amazing job. Glad we at least still have Jake around...
AWS Vids this may have been something to do with it but it was also and mainly that all the actors auditioning for the role of the joker were scared to take it because of how good Jack Nicholson was. Heath Ledger in his interview and audition said he was intimidated at all about playing the character.
imo Candy was a little more fearless
No heath was fearless even without this movie. I think everybody who ever met him knew this. And ive only seen the biography.
AWS Vids "taking the role" 😂
AWS Vids Well said
Funny story: I once believed my dad watched gay porn because I turned on the TV in his room as a kid and the Brokeback Mountain sex scene was playing. I thought he was a closeted gay man for about a year before I learned of the movie lol
You must still be a kid. That movie is only 15 years ago.
@@ngc-fo5te they totally could be in their twenties now

Yoooo💀💀💀
@@ngc-fo5te I’m 26 bro lmao what
If i had Jake's hair my life would be a lot cooler.....
+Cole Younger I was thinking the same thing man

+Cole Younger Weird, I was focusing on his hair the entire video then scrolled down to see this comment xD
Oh my god 😂😂 I'm sure your hair is just fine, friend
Yep, Life is a hell of a lot easier when one is photogenic. I used to think that a person's character was what truly mattered, but as I've gotten older I've come to realize that what really matters is a person's physical attractiveness and being really rich.
It's really a no-brainer. Having a world cinema master like Ang Lee on your resume lends credibility and legitimacy that most actors can only wish for. All four of them went on to have great careers following the film. Even Anne Hathaway was able to transition from a Disney princess to a serious actor overnight.
+HabituallyObsessed Yeah, while watching the movie I realised the actors have had fantastic careers after doing Brokeback Mountain. You kinda forget none of them were really taken that seriously when they did the movie, but they ended up proving themselves.
True
HabituallyObsessed nah. It’s still a joke today. It Luckily didn’t hurt his career but it didn’t help either.
SonnyGTA Get your head out of your ass. It’s obvious the film was a huge success.
It wasn't overnight. She worked for a long time before
playing "Jack fuckin' Twist" may have been the best ever decision that Jake have ever made.Brokeback mountain is a masterpiece.Wacthed it for like more that 100 times yet can't stop but feel the same way about it.
Nt Haque I watched it so many times and I will never stop watching it about 20 times a year
more than 100 times? damn you have a lot of free time, I´ve watched for like 4 times only.
nt snazzy where can I watch it online? 😢
i saw you under a dunkirk interview vid like a few minutes ago wtf gurl
nt snazzy i see you pham
Brokeback mountain is one of those movies i can only watch once although its brilliant, simply because its just so so sad. Damn, that ending still hurts thinking about it. Who cares if its two guys, its about love. Gay folks surely also watch a whole lot of straight love in movies.
I watch lots of straight love movies xx
whenever i need to cry i watch brokeback
ditto! Also - pisses me off that so many gay themed movies are tragedies, but I don't like fake happy endings either... A Single Man was a great film too - and I thought it was going to be different until the last few minutes - UGH!
"Brokeback" taking place in the 60's and 70's out west? There was not going to be a happy ending. That's the truth for that time and place.
Hell, in a lot of places in the (mid)west it still rings true. @@edalder2000
HE IS SO FINE.
Me too
I bet you loved the movie Jake.
Literally? No one reply. Wow
Call him the prince of Persia
I agree...Howard is F I N E !!!.......
That movie was the bomb! He and Heath killed it!
RealTakerslady absolutely
I appreciated the ENTIRE cast in this one. It's like Heath, Michelle, Jake, and Ann are in the same movie but they all have a different plot skew! It was most amazing to me how Ang Lee wove the four lives into 3 intersecting stories with SO much sub-story as well!
RealTakerslady I agree!
@@katnielson867 oh I thought they did get oscars
I like Jake but I don't get why it's such a "big decision" for an actor to act. If a male actor plays a gay character everyone immediately asks, "Is he gay?" Yet when the same actor plays a drug addict or a killer do we then wonder whether or not they're drug addicts or killers? Of course not. It's called ACTING for a reason.
+suvariboy Yeah, this is a very American mentality unfortunately. It's like when a gay actor plays a straight character and then it's all like, omg I can't believe he's gay in real life ... etc. etc. But really why should we care? It perpetuates stereotypes and a stupid mentality. It's not like that in, say, western Europe. We're still backwards in that respect for a first world country. Some day it really won't matter, but it will take quite some time to get there probably.
+suvariboy I think there's a difference. What it boils down to is some men, actor or not, just can't bring themselves to open mouth kiss another man, or other things. That doesn't make them insensitive or bigoted or anything, it's just a hard thing to do. You don't really get that when the character is a drug addict or a killer or something, because the actor isn't actually doing drugs or killing people, yet if the script calls for gay romance, they really would be physical with another man in front of the camera. For a lot of people I imagine, that could be considered a big decision.
i think it had more to do with the time and the fact that palying such a controversial character is a hard decision. a drug addict is common in movies but before 2004 a movie portraying homosexuality was not common. it may stick with him forever and people might not see beyond this role in his future acting. it a big career risk, lucky it paid off
Come on dude there's a HUGE difference. The actor doesn't really shoot heroin when acting high. He also doesn't really stab any one when acting like a psycho. But he really did french that guy and humped the shit out of him...Maybe your gay but for some guy's even the thought of tonguing some other guy makes them physically ill. Don't get me wrong, im not a homophob or nothing but a dude has to be pretty damn girly for me to fuck him, I mean hot like one of those sexy Asian lady boys.....Wait ahahaha got you
+suvariboy Completely agree! To be fair, Jake played down the question when Howard asked it, so I really admire his for that. It's more Howard's view that is reinforcing these stereotypes than anyone else's!
Love is love. It was a beautiful love story, a beautiful film, with incredible acting.
PLEASE let's not forget to mention (in the least) the soundtrack to the film composed by Gustavo Santaolalla, which absolutely made the movie that much more incredible!
Joe Schmoe damnn same with the last of us
Wow I didn't know that, he did the soundtrack for TLOU.
Joe Schmoe so true
Yes!! Thanks for this! He is an excellent musician from my country Argentina and Im glad he has the positive feedback he deserves! That soundtrack is gorgeous.
Last of us to
Every time I hear the score from Brokeback mountain there’s this emotion and connectedness there. One of the most beautiful films of all time
And the guitarist nailed it
And that’s why “Average Joe” is Average Joe and Jake Gyllenhaal is where he is in life.
?
It was a really well done serious movie about a couple men falling in love.First movie about gays that I have seen that does not portray them as perverts hanging out in seedy bars and parading down main street with pink bikinis on.
The Godfather weren’t they cheating on their wives???
They were not gay they were bisexual 🙄
@@FeuerblutRM That's the same as gay.
Hunty!
@@FeuerblutRM many gay men are in hetero marriages
Seriously amazing film. Gave me chills. Very haunting with stellar performances.
“I’m thinking about doing a romantic movie….with Heath Ledger.” 🤣
OMG, Robin’s awesome. Got a laugh out of me.
SUCH a beautiful film. Brilliant performances. Bravo to the lad. Bravo to Heath.
Dont make me Ang Lee, you wouldn't like me when I'm Ang Lee
Shaun Ward Did he ever forgive Stewart Lee
You had to say it don't you.
Shaun Ward never thought id see a Stewart Lee reference on here. Nice
Perfect lol
I'm uncomfortable with how much I needed that
Brokeback Mountain is actually a very moving film , Ang Lee made it well. Nice scenery, good acting, writing, and music and in the end just kind of tragic and sad that people even now are still not allowed to live they want to
It's still one of my favorite movies. As a love triangle-live story. As a Western-set piece. Brilliant movie. I cried in the theater and I still cry watching it.
He is a very versatile and brave actor! His acting is so dynamic and he can do almost everything even a psycho or evil character. He is so good in his craft.
He’s versatile? I thought he was a bottom.

"Brokeback Mountain" was a masterpiece that explored numerous points of view on closeted gay identities in conservative society with nuance and empathy and could have been used as a great tool to foster discussion on sensitive topics but has been relentlessly mocked and parodied.
And that's too bad, because it is groundbreaking, heartbreaking and one of the best movies ever made. Too many people who haven't seen it make fun, but I think every one would come away moved if they just watched it.
You can thank Seth MacFarlane for that.
Partly true. But lots of people appreciate that movie for what it was and how it was intended. Parody is a form of flattery.
I like grown up Howard Stern, he's fun, asks the right questions, nice to his guests, says exactly what the audience is thinking without being offensive to the guest... Etc he's probably my favorite host now.
One of my favourite films ever I love this film it's one of the most tender and sincere romantic films ever made, beautiful and simple and Heath and Jake are amazing in it.
Tender and romantic were not the feelings I got from the movie at all... it is the epitome of "love pain" - love being self-love, love for another, love for family, lust... I didn't think there was anything romantic about the relationship because it came with so much self-hate...
caerulea0 you got problems.
Movie truly was a masterpiece, from the acting, music, the scenery. Great film
Don’t lie Jake, you only did it just to kiss heath ledger
I love it how Howard ends it with the famous Scott the Engineer quote
He was so good in Nightcrawler
One of the most beautifully heartbreaking films ever. Absolutely stunning. So sad.
Jake gyllenhaal seems like a really cool and chill guy to talk to.
I love how Jake explains taking the role. He didn't think of it being such a huge political decision. He just liked the script and thought it would be a good movie.
He was so fantastic in that role! Glad he got an Oscar
Will the world ever grow up and stop worrying about labels, so many insecure men hello Howard.
That was a big part of the movie's premise - the stigma and labels that were applied to gay men decades ago in rural small town settings - were enormous and life altering-and ending.
Preach!!?
He is such a fucking boss
+Locustmaster15
Who is his boss? How do you know that? Or just a rumor?
This movie was such a hug impact in my life I am so thankful for that movie
Why can't they just make the full videos of interviews available for like online? I would buy them for like .99 if they are worried about money and I'm sure others would too. They make the interviews even better. Free would be better though. Lol.
Get SirusXM you'll hear all of these without breaks. I love it!
the way his face softens when Brokeback is brought up
time to cry
I remember I weeped at the end.
He's so handsome, almost shocking.
Adriana B Vitucci none of those genes went to his sister.
Should have won an Oscar for this movie!
I never looked at Brokeback Mtn as a film about two gay men...lit was so much more than that...it was beautiful, and tragic, and insightful. One of my favorite movies.
This movie was very Pure..
Very touching very innocent and very loving. Back there in the sixties that's the way people thought it's very sad to think how many millions of people have missed out on being with the person that they loved. Heath and Jake did an unbelievable job in acting it was just great it was one of the purest things I've ever seen on film good job .. Bravo 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏😘.
It's a wonderfully powerful film so well done. Michelle Williams and Keith Ledger met on the set of this film and eventually had a child together. So sad his passing. Many thought this film would win Best Pic that year but the Paul Haggis film won instead which was also superb. All acting in the film, very powerful!
I absolutely loved Brokeback Mountain. It’s not an easy movie to watch because it gets very real in many parts of the narrative. It was a sensitively portrayed film about love. Two men in love. Even to this day I remember some scenes vividly. Especially that last scene of Heath Ledger’s when he looks at Jack’s shirt & says “Jack...I swear!”💔Now that’s art! Jake you 100% made the right decision! F*ck anyone who says otherswise!
He just wanted to kiss Heath Ledger. That's all
This movie always makes me cry at the end 😢
i just watched it for the first time and am in tears.
My mom was a huge fan of Al Pachino & was unaware what 'Crusing' (the movie) was about when she took me at 17y.o. Brokeback is like The Sound of Music compared to that!
To me jakes true talent exploded with this character and a good actor takes on anything.Pacino done it,Streep done it. bang
What makes a good actor unique is not to get scared at the moment to play a role in particular, and Jake is one of those actors. So when he accepted that role in Brokeback Mountain, he knows what he had to do, in simply words he was as brave as Heath when he had to play the Joker's role.
One of the best movies I have ever seen. Amazing work.
Brokeback mountain is my favourite movie ever
"Hot Office Lesbian Lickers" is a personal favourite of mine...
A true classic of the genre...
It's great. Made me cry my heart out
Are you related to the director?? 😂

Ugh I stan Jake so hard. Much love and respect for him for years
I saw this when I was a kid but i only saw it at the beginning of the film and left because my parents told me. But I just saw the movie today and I have to say I love it and wish it was more longer film.
the film is so good it makes me miss someone, greetings of success from Indonesian
RIP Heath Ledger! 🙏🙏🙏
Jake is one of those guys that can truly do everything, I don’t want to say he’s underrated because I don’t think he is, I would say under the radar... or maybe it’s because he found a way to lead a private life in Hollywood, whatever the case I really really enjoy his movies
Jake, Jake, Jake. He's got something.
To sum up this interview he basically answered "I liked the director" and "whatever"
I was at a party when I was like 17, passed out drunk in a friends living room. Woke up from a drunken stupor and there there were 2 cowboys banging on tv.
Sounds like a great party
Such an amazing actor.
and it ended up being his best role to date.
Please, please bring back some form of Howard TV?!? I think I can speak for most of the listeners when I say we miss it terribly, and we'd pay to have it back.
"Brokeback Mountain" is definitely the best movie of Jake Gyllenhaal. Definitely.
Nightcrawler is also so so so good, right up there with Brokeback. He's done some stellar work.

That, prisoners and zodiac i agree
It was a beautiful and heartbreaking story.
That movie had gorgeous cinematography. Wyoming?
Robin had him cracking up 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Those eyes... good looking man.
1:25 this is the camera angle Howard has always looked for
amazing actor and a career defining film which has touched a lot of people.
HE TOOK THE ROLE BECAUSE IT WAS A GOOD ROLE
JUST CUS ITS GAY DONT MEAN ITS BAD
PLEASE INSPECT THE HOMOPHOBIA OF YR CURIOSITIES
Simmer down you old coot. Just cause your hard of hearing don't mean you got to be yelling at everyone.
the question isnt about whether the actor is homophobic, its about whether the audience is. jake had to consider that the role could have seriously hurt his career. and if it wasn't as good as it was, its very possible that it could have. this was 2005.
One of the best movies ever made
Chillest jake interview I’ve ever seen
WATCHED IT YESTERDAY AND IT WAS AWESOME
i like that "fuck it" attitude
good movie, great work from Jake. R.I.P. Heath
He is a great actor and fantastic person.
It is a great movie. Great acting/directing/photography/emotions
The movie has amazing cinematography, very well done, easily one of my faves.
When I started hearing the hype of the film back in 2005, I decided to read the short story it was based on. It’s 18 pages . It was the first and only time I wept just from reading a fictional story.
Must have been awesome working with Heath Ledger his Joker performance was some of the best acting I've ever seen him and Daniel Day-Lewis are goats
this movie hurts my soul. why is it so sad
Maybe one day people’s sexuality won’t be an issue. But for now the human race has so much growing to do.
I like this movie. I look at it as a love story pure and simple.
