  • In this clip from our podcast, Frank and I discuss the overly hyped reaction to the Wampler Germanium Tumnus overdrive. It sold out in less than 24 hours, and those being resold on Reverb are listed at some very ludicrous prices.

My version of events: I had wanted a Tumnus for some time. A few weeks ago I was watching some videos and accidentally came across a video by Wampler saying that they had released a new version with Ge diodes. It sounded good so I ordered one at its launch price not thinking too much about it. A bit pricier than the regular one but it looked cool for not much more money. Then, I received an email saying the delivery would be delayed slightly. I'm expecting the pedal in the next few weeks. I am planning on keeping it and playing it because it sounds very good.

Apologies is this from an eps or are these videos normally shorter? Just found this channel, enjoying the discussions.

I did an A/B and I liked the original. The Ge felt more vintage and didn't have the extra punch the other has.

Yeah, more and earlier clipping will take away some of that punch, depending on your setup.

I prefer the more vintage vibe. Only tried one at a friend's studio, I'll never be able to afford one now. Kinda wish I'd bought one when they were released, as I totally had the chance too

Kindly remember the ridiculous hype is due to the germanium diodes!

Guitar players buy colored boxes. They like to own all these beautiful colors and shapes. It’s not about music anymore.
We are all victims of advertising. I stopped buying pedals.

A lot of us fall prey to marketing hypes, but for some it's not detrimental. For those on a tight budget, it most definitely can be.
