- The tone bird is back.
We released Condor in 2018. It was a weird little EQ that had some gnarly, gnarly distortion and a few interesting tricks. You might say it was a little misunderstood, or hard to explain, so we decided to discontinue it a few years later. But it's developed a bit of a following in its absence so we're bringing it back for everyone that missed out - with a couple useful upgrades:
1.) It now uses the same power supply as Preamp MKII, internally boosting the voltage up to 30V. This gives you a lot of headroom to freely boost the EQ and use it with a variety of instruments.
2.) It now uses the OPA1662 op amps for a higher fidelity sound, lower noise, and a different clipping character.
It's the perfect pedal for finding your core sound, setting up different presets for different moments, and matching guitar and overdrive profiles.

Fun fact about the extra gnarly distortion: what you're seeing is called "phase reversal" and it's an artifact in a lot of op amps (including the very popular TL072). Basically when a signal hits the negative limit, the output will shoot to the positive rail. If you do this to a typical waveform it will add basically an extra wiggle to the wave, which sounds like a harsh overtone. It's a big part of the sound of certain pedals and people don't even realize it!

1. You're the best for updating Condor gen 1. That is such a cool thing to offer.
2. Using an oscilloscope in a pedal video is a 10/10 idea. I would love to see a video done where you use the Pre amp MKii and try to recreate other pedal tones.

I love the white background as a callback to the power rail distortion video Joel did on the original Condor. My Condor is amazing at the end of my gain-staging, and the increased headroom will help me out a ton. Ordered my upgrade - such a cool option to give to customers. Have been a longstanding fan of the company and your practices, and it's very rewarding to see that you value us customers like that.
Congrats as well on the success of the D2C model. It's great that puts your team in a better position to do things like this.

The Condor has been the heart of my sound for over four years now. Absolutely astonishing. Thick, juicy, rich. Works on both guitar and bass and acoustic. I cannot live without it. I pair it with GFI Cabzeus and the tone gets INSANE. Will send it in for the upgrade soon.

Love this video, Chase Bliss and my Condor. Jumping at the chance to upgrade the board. The only thing missing from this video is the sound of the new Condor with high gain on its own 😅

I can't even afford this, but this video was SO satisfying and Joel seems such an awesome person to have as a friend and as a coworker, and Chase Bliss pedals opened the world of tones and effects to me, to be really open to all kinds of expressions. I really hope one day I'll be able to buy one of their pedals, maybe a year from now, I'll reply to this when I get the chance 🌹

Condor HiFi update arrived today. It's really great on the Fender humbucker / Jerry G style of clean sound pushing into overdrive. Lots of headroom as advertised. Morningstar midi controller to set the EQ. I love the old Condor too, but this Hifi hits the sweet spot.
Very nice to see you doing the video pedal comparison yourself.
For my ambient sounds I am very happy to be able to get an upgrade for my Condor with more headroom.

I think this is brilliant. Part of me wants to send in mine for the upgrade (generous offer). But another part of me says that I already *have* one, and any new board I use is one less that's available to another person to discover the Condor. So I'm going to defer to that person. Note that it can do a passable Uni-Vibe imitation when the mids are set for a shallow dip (leftmost toggle position) and the LFO sweeps the location of the mid-cut back and forth. If you've ever used a Phase 45 as a cheap vibe substitute, the Condor can do that...and now even cleaner! Kudos, Joel.

I always boosted into my Condor, after the two gain stages in RC Booster 2 was such a cool clipping characteristic - fuzztortion style :) :)
Joel, you convinced me to keep my Condor as-is. My favorite thing to do with it is drive it hard with old Casio keyboards and preset drum machines. It does everything from tone shaping to getting super fucked up as you demoed. I love how completely trashed it can sound in this application.

I read the extra on the Condor HiFi and I def have a recommendation on a “revamp” of a pedal…The Wombtone…I’ve honestly nvr been a fan of bi-phase, so maybe go to the odd order and do like 3-5-6 stage? Or could you add more phase stages to it and do like 4-5-7? It was a really cool pedal, I just like 5-7 stage for some reason…More like the original mutron…
And just got a Condor HiFi, got here yesterday and got to play with it tonight! I’m interested in diving in deeper…I’m thinking going with a mid scoop on one preset, a boost of some kind for the other preset and then have a mod/bounce on the middle “preset” and just be able to switch between them! Or something like that! Love it!
I've been feeling a little burned out on gear, maybe a bit of NAMM/January hangover. But I think it's physically impossible for me to not get hyped about a new chase bliss pedal.
Will the new ones have the original version option available via a dipswitch, like the mood mk2?

I really love the filter from the OG Condor. I use it as a synth style filter with an expression pedal. Did you change something about the filter response? Because in the video it seems as if the filter reacts way more „snappy“ than the old one, where the sweep spot was a little wider.

Sorry, but no. We do not offer an upgrade path for MOOD mk1 to mk2. The difference is Condor HiFi is a mod on the existing hardware from Condor with no software/firmware updates. MOOD mk2 is totally new hardware and software/firmware compared to the mk1.

I actually really dig that power rail distortion sound. Does the Hifi have any distortion or overdrive characteristic on its own? Or is it more of a "standard" sound?
It has its own character for sure, just not the gnarly power rail distortion of the OG

2000 units is not *that* limited, when you compare it with the 1500 units that were sold without being marketed as a limited device.
With that said, people will still buy it and try to sell it for more than the new price, which is crazy.
I tried to convince a private seller of a Preamp MKII that he should set his price lower that the official B-Stock price, because he doesn't offer any warranties. He answered "Buy the B-Stock instead". He asked like almost new price.
I'd love to pair an Ayahuasca with my Bliss Factory in a dual mono context, but try to find that pedal under 1000€.

You were gain stacking them, so it sounded like toilet and lo-fi, not hi-fi, so i didn't really get an indicator of the headroom
It's pretty much indistinguishable from the old Condor (of which there are many videos) unless you are hitting the power rails, which is pretty difficult to do on the HiFi since the headroom is so huge.
