How To Make A Drone Construction Time Lapse Video - A Quick Guide

- This week we'll be talking about how to make a drone construction time lapse video. This isn't a complete guide, but it will get you pointed in the right direction. If you're interested in using your drone to make time lapse videos of construction sites you'll most likely need an autonomous flight app (like Litchi) and a video editing platform. Davinci, Premier Pro, and Final Cut will all work. Below you'll find chapter markers as well.

Excelente trabajo y explicación! Gracias
a plethora of knowledge. ty sir
Thanks!
I absolutely LOVE this, your an inspiration. Thank you. 👍🏾😊
You are so welcome
@@AZ-Drone Subtle. Nice.
Great job.
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed the video.
Super recap. Nice watching how everything comes together.
I wish I could do those low flights for 3D models. My site has so many trees I can't get lower than 150ft and the trees are 10-20ft away from the build. But getting some great orthomosaics and my interior 360s are going well.
Get urlself a Medium format lol
Nice video!!
Thanks!
Man if you think you need clearance in an open space like that, try flying in Burbank, CA. It's a freaking nightmare. I flew in Cottonwood once and it was cakewalk compared to where I am now.
I can only imagine. Glad were' not in a location with a lot of restrictions.
Can I upload a Flight plan from LI to my RC pro controller for my Mavic three enterprise? Or does it only work with mobile devices?
The funny thing is started doing this 1 month ago about time lapse progression( with my neighbor new house build) before knowing about Rich YT channel and services, i had this kind of service in my head. BUT I'm stuck with not having a laptop at this moment yet and im actually looking for similar softwares that i need to make the same kind of service as Rich. It's awesome that i came across with Rich channel video and services that i had in mind😁😁, i have a Mini 4 Pro so I'm getting close to getting a laptop and the then the software, if i miss any important tools that i need reply on my comment please, thank you Rich for your gr8 videos and time 👍🏻
Glad to be of help! I’m using a Mac Studio. No laptops for us at the moment. All depends on what software you want to run.
Hi Rich. Thanks for your channel - its helped me a lot. ive stumbled into drone construction progress as part of my civil engineering consultancy business (large volume residential development in the UK) - i used a mini 2 to document progress for the last couple of years. you channel has given me great ideas and i now map with a mavic 3e for speed and accuracy. One thing i would like to offer is time lapse video - my issue is the quality of the video when flown by dronelink (very similar to litchi) in virtual stick mode on the mini 2. am i right in thinking your Mavic 2 Pro is a lot smoother because litchi uses the built in DJI waypoints to give smooth flight, as opposed to having to use a virtual stick mode? thinking i might have to invest in a Pro 2 as well if thats the case.
Glad the channel has been helpful to you. I like knowing that what I'm doing assists other drone operators.
To your question. I've found the Waypoint mode smoother than the virtual stick model. I've tested a few virtual stick setups on different apps, and the difference is noticeable especially on curves / turns. If you have no other option than the virtual stick mode, you should still be able to align things closely for a few flight tests. Where things don't seam up right? That's where a nice transition can come in handy. It might mean a little more manual cleanup in the video editor you're using, but you can still make something decent.
@@AZ-Drone I set up a test video flight around my house using dronelink in virtual stick mode and just wasnt happy with the result. Ive been flying a few years now and my manual flying skills are presentable enough, but i really like the idea of repeatable missions to splice in the video editor. Maybe i could smooth it out in post, but im basing my drone activities on being fast and effecient and using batch processing where possible etc. thats why i was so impressed with your Litchi based video and figured it must be the fact that its a waypoint based pre-programmed flight. i went hunting on youtube and found a video a guy had done with dronelink and a mavic pro 2 and as expected it was nice and smooth in the turns. on the basis that i can pick up a second hand pro 2 for not a lot of money now, i think thats going to be the answer.
good chat Rich thanks. Ive just ordered a second hand mavic 2 Pro.
Hi there, I have a DJI Mini 3 with the RC controller containing the built-in screen and app and I have a potential client who wants me to do a progression video for them. However, I can't use Licthi due to my controller having everything built-in and I also can't use any other 3rd party apps. Is this something that can be done with a Mini 3? I know it will probably require more work and dedication to try and be as precise as possible when flying, but for the most part it should be possible, right? If so, do you have any resources I can look at where people explain how to do it the way I'll have to? So I have the Mini 3, not the Pro version.
Check out this video on Waypoints with the DJI Mini 3 and dronelink. ruclips.net/video/WWuG4t2DrBQ/видео.htmlsi=DFJElFQwU_fwUpmr
Just of interest, did you proceed that work on Mac Mini you were talking in some of your previous videos?
Actually this job location has been done with the Mavic 2 Pro. I setup the initial flight in Litchi with the Mavic 2, and then we've executed the same waypoint mission for each visit.
Do you just make a note of camera tilt and adjust each time to match or does the software your using do that? Awesome video!
Have you seen the longterm dronelapse being done at the FAIR construction site in Germany? How difficult do you think it would be to do something like that/
I haven't seen that dronelapse yet, but I'll go looking for it. If you have a link please pass it along. I know there are crane cams and other time lapse cameras out there for outside use now. I've seen some crane camera time lapses that feel like drone video.
@@AZ-Drone RUclips doesn't allow links to be posted, but this is the title of the video. "FAIR Construction Site Time Lapse - Longterm Dronelapse."
how much do you charge per residential site visit?
What we charge on a residential site depends on the services the client is looking for. We start at $175 per hour. If the client wants still images, video time lapse, Ortho maps, etc. the price will be based on our time in the field and post processing time.
Thanks for the video ! I am experiencing an issue that you or someone may help me with. Everytime I return to the contruction site I realize that the drone GPS position is inacurate and/or different that the last time I visited. I realized when the drones starting position is shifting not allowing the timelapse videos to be synchronized. I am using a DJI mini 2. Is that drone inadequate for this sort of project? Basicly the drone thinks its at the waypoint but the drone actuall position is off by 0.5 to 1 meters.
I can't remember. Does the DJI Mini 2 operate in "stick mode" or is it "waypoint mode." I've noticed that drones using "stick mode" aren't always spot on.
