    I sang this song at a concert in the day my grandmother, the person who inspired to be a musician, died. I cried while singing it and never heard the song since then. Today, years later, I decided to listen to it again, and I cried just like when I performed it.
    What a magnificent, simple and deep song.

      a true song... may you be comforted and encouraged in the joy of knowing you may live forever, reconciled to God by faith in Jesus Christ who laid down His life and rose from the dead from the dead to redeem us from our bondage to the fear of death and wash away our sin in His own blood shed upon that cross.
      Merry Christmas... I miss my Nonna too

    In the Bleak Midwinter" is a poem by the English poet Christina Rossetti, commonly performed as a Christmas carol. The poem was published, in January 1872. In 1906, the composer Gustav Holst composed a setting of Rossetti's words (titled "Cranham") in The English Hymnal which is sung throughout the world.

    In the bleak midwinter
    Frosty wind made moan
    Earth stood hard as iron
    Water like a stone
    Snow had fallen
    Snow on snow on snow
    In the bleak midwinter
    Long, long ago
    Angels and Arc Angels
    May have traveled there
    Cherubim and Seraphim
    Thronged the air
    But only his Mother
    In her maiden bliss
    Worshiped the beloved
    With a kiss
    What can I give him?
    Poor as I am
    If I were a shepherd
    I would give a lamb
    If I were a wise man
    I would do my part
    But what I can I give him
    Give him my heart

    Gustav Holst is just a genius, I know it's an adaptation of the poem but 'The Planets' are a statement to how exceptional his music is. 🌹 'In the bleak midwinter....' means that through all this, everything in the lyrics.... it was 'enough' for Jesus Christ.... That's the message here. He doesn't need anything more than what he had at his birth. Beautiful. Simple, yet heartbreaking. God bless us all. 🙏🌹

    Lyrics
    In the bleak midwinter
    Frosty wind made moan,
    Earth stood hard as iron,
    Water like a stone;
    Snow had fallen,
    Snow on snow,
    In the bleak midwinter,
    Long ago.
    Our God, heaven cannot hold him,
    Nor earth sustain;
    Heaven and earth shall flee away
    When he comes to reign;
    In the bleak midwinter
    A stable place sufficed
    The Lord God incarnate,
    Jesus Christ.
    Enough for him, whom Cherubim
    Worship night and day
    A breast full of milk
    And a manger full of hay.
    Enough for him, whom angels
    Fall down before,
    The ox and ass and camel
    Which adore.
    Angels and archangels
    May have gathered there,
    Cherubim and seraphim
    Thronged the air;
    But his mother only,
    In her maiden bliss,
    Worshipped the Beloved
    With a kiss.
    What can I give him,
    Poor as I am?
    If I were a shepherd
    I would bring a lamb,
    If I were a wise man
    I would do my part,
    Yet what I can I give Him -
    Give my heart.

      Just to clear things up a bit Harold Darke is the author of the alternative piece of music to which the words are often set to - this recording is of the more familiar "Cranham" by Gustav Holst. Cristina Rossetti wrote the words, originally published as a poem.

About 10 minutes ago, I heard it again as an instrumental, and when I looked at the list of songs, this one stood out as one I "didn't know". I immediately looked for other performances and came upon this one! Just beautiful. I don't know I got to be this old without knowing much about this song.

    It is Summer (mid-August). But I have been meditating and singing this since March..... something about it.... the paradox of God’s glory and God’s humiliation, for love of man- His Creation, His children. I just want to hum it all year long...

    I first heard this carol on a Charlie Byrd Christmas cd. It sounds amazing done with just classical guitar. To hear this done by a choir completely blew me away. Such a beautiful piece. If you like guitar done right, listen to the Charlie Byrd version.
