Gorgeous portraits! Wonder who painted them, they really seem so incredibly life-like. Also goooooorgeous pic of Colin Firth, I have never seen that particular one before.

There was an interesting fashion contradiction in this period. Long hair (on men) came to be associated with aristocracy, and short hair with revolution. French revolutionaries cut their hair short. The Irish revolutionaries of 1798 were known as “croppies” for this reason. American men, mostly sympathetic with France, copied the style.
At the same time, American men adopted the high riding boot, an aristocratic style. (If they could afford it) It was an expression of the sentiment “every man a king.” Personal sovereignty and prosperity symbolized in footwear. Boots were impractical for most purposes, but never mind.
    Great video as usual!

Regrettably, the Colin Firth photo you showed has him not only standing with his coat unbuttoned and open in an unacceptably slovenly manner, but of an unusually poor quality tailoring in the first place. Perhaps seek advice from Zack Pinsent or Priorattire regarding just how close coats were cut at the time when Mr Darcy's character was written.
