We have some old abandoned buses up in my area. The main 2 I remember are a 56 Ford Superior and a 70ish Ford Wayne. The 56 us 100% abandoned, property and all, and the 70 is just neglected. Both were in service locally to me from what I can see. I hope to eventually buy and restore them. When and if it ever happens I'd be delighted to have them be shown off at your guy's museum.

I'm from Montgomery County and remember riding these busses in the early 90's. They were substitute busses and used on field trips.

Hello tommy, I love this bus. I think what I would change to the school bus is at heated and ventilated seats AC USB ports in every row and a panoramic sunroof as much as other tech enhancements.

I noticed the '74 Minnesota bus has a one-piece windshield. I worked for a school bus contractor in the 1970s, and we opted for the two-piece windshields for lower replacement costs when damaged.

I believe that after the chemical stockpile at the Bluegrass Army Depot has been destroyed that Madison County is disposing of a lot of the older buses that were there in case of an emergency. There were several Waynes and Blue Birds from the 1980s and early 90s parked at Clark Moores Middle School in Richmond for many years. There were also some Ward Senators there too if I recall correctly.
Several Waynes have ended up at the scrap yard a few miles from my house in the last few months and I believe they came from the Madison County emergency fleet.

We know a thing or two about the Minnesota spec'd windows here in Alton, IL down state from you. Our school bus contractor Illinois Central School Bus has some Minnesota Central Locations, and we get MN buses every now and then and same for Wisconsin have the first window double-paned.

Have you thought about looking for a piece of property and a nice small-medium town to drive the buses around like Belvidere IL for example?

Would like to find a 56 or 57 International but I don't think any exist these days. I codu have bought a 56 back in the 70s but passed on it.

its always nice to save the old school buses from the 1970's 1980's 1990's but some times bids never work out but its nice to convert School buses back to actual School buses for preserve uses only.

@TommyRetro Sweet! I work at Madison County Transit/Agency For Community Transit(Southern Illinois) and I am responsible for our fuel inventory (Diesel and 87 Gasoline), and (DEF). As well as billing out our accident estimates. IDOT Safety Lane inspections. And other fleet related duties. I like School Buses too and that's what originally got me into buses. I see you have a beautiful Fish bowl too! We had some of those around here before MCT existed in 1980, and started purchasing heavy duty buses in 1991 with our Orion II's. Bi-State now know as St. Louis Metro and Bi-State operated Fishbowls, and Flixables around here before MCT got heavy duty buses in the 90s! We now have a fleet of 16 2010 Gillig BRT 40's (Equipped with the Cummins ISL9/Voith transmission) , 12 2012 Gillig BRT 40's (Equipped with the Cummins ISL9/Allison B400R), 42 2020 Gillig BRT 29's (Equipped with the Cummins L9/Allison B3400 xFE ), as well as well as 13 2017 Ford E-450 25' Turtletop Oddessy's with the 6.8 V10. And 26 Para transit, 2019 Ford E-450 Turtletop Oddessy's also with the 6.8L V10. Up till mid to late 2012 we had 1997 New Flyer D40LF's with the DD50/Allison B400R, and 1998 New Flyer D30LF's with the C8.3/B300R! A few are still around last I checked Lorenz Bus Service in MN still operates one or two of our D40LF's. Those were tanks! The current 2010s are doing well with despite being emissions motors. A few have upwards of 625k on them!

Hey there. I know that you get thousands of emails from your bus fans. I am also one of them. I love Carpenter buses. Special School District was a repeat customer of Carpenter school buses. They bought their first set in I think the early 1960s. I think some of the jobs that bus 540 may have could be a way to get donations. You guys are some of the very few non profit organizations that also helps out another non profit organization. If we had more of these, this country would be in much better shape.
