This is the modelo i remember from bluebird, in My country there were plenty of these buses in 95, but they came only like the one in this video with mechanic transmisión, well our buses sounded different cuz they used a Pipe behind the bus like the ones used in semi truck, so it sounded different it was something about the law that every bus must have a Pipe

Best school buses ever built! Those things are absolute tanks! I rode in those buses growing up in the 80s as a kid in Southern California. Those were real bus drivers who still wore uniforms and put on gloves! All were stick, stiff ride, rolling coal, and loud! Real professional men and women. You are fortunate to have owned one of those.

Back when I was in school, I use to ride on a shorty school bus. The story school bus had a wheelchair lift on it the shorty school bus is my favorite!!

Lucia mar unified school district had a school bus id ride daily to my house and it was the biggest and oldest bus. I loved it so much in secret as it wasn't a popular thing yet to like school buses outwardly, so nostalgic i already knew previous to being, to like at all. My favorite number is and always was 52 for this reason. This bus in particular sounded like my #45 and i loved it too. I knew it was to be the last of soon.

Ward/AmTran buses were always my favorites as a kid. Love the body lines, door design, and I always loved that 'click' sound when the door handle latches. Don't know why, but I've always loved that sound. A question, though. I've noticed that all your buses I've seen thus far all have hydraulic brakes instead of air brakes. Any reason for not acquiring any buses with air brakes?

I absolutely loved those GMs with the Detroit. They were the best to drive only issues i ever had was little hard to get good heat in bitter cold and somw of those GMs liked to wander a bit on the road. My first bus was a 88 with a Ward body.

I believe that after the chemical stockpile at the Bluegrass Army Depot has been destroyed that Madison County is disposing of a lot of the older buses that were there in case of an emergency. There were several Waynes and Blue Birds from the 1980s and early 90s parked at Clark Moores Middle School in Richmond for many years. There were also some Ward Senators there too if I recall correctly. Several Waynes have ended up at the scrap yard a few miles from my house in the last few months and I believe they came from the Madison County emergency fleet.

Love the doors and the functional door mechanism. By 1970 the one inside-one outside door action and the angled corner is super old fashioned.

Neat! I rode to school every day in the mid 80s on the GMC version of this. I remember ours was brand new and had the single red warning lights, no amber. I don't see the single versions very often in pics or videos.. im guessing most were retrofitted with the amber/red combos later. Thanks for taking us along for the ride! Many memories!

I'm from Montgomery County and remember riding these busses in the early 90's. They were substitute busses and used on field trips.

Tommy I am looking at a 1971 International Harvest in Indiana. Save it!!! Carpenter with air brakes. It came from out west. No rust at all! Seats are out but everything else is there.
