  • Mk1 SEAT Leon Cupra R vs Mk2 SEAT Leon Cupra - Which Is Best? [Car Obsession]
Hello guys, welcome back to Car Obsession, and welcome to another video that I've been waiting to show you for quite some time! It's my anticipated head-to-head video with what was my Mk1 SEAT Leon Cupra R and Mk2 SEAT Leon Cupra.
Both cars feature turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engines albeit with slightly different approaches. The Mk1 SEAT Leon Cupra R is powered by a 1.8 turbocharged petrol offering 210hp and 270Nm whilst the Mk2 SEAT Leon Cupra is powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol offering 240hp and 300Nm of torque.
Both cars send their power to the front wheels via a 6-speed manual - without a limited-slip differential. The Cupra R will hit 62mph in 7.2 seconds, whilst the Cupra betters that with 6.4 seconds. The top speed of the Cupra R is 147mph, whilst the Cupra will max out at 154mph.
Those are just numbers, though, and they only paint so much of the story - what are both cars like to drive in the real world? I hit the beautiful sunny roads of Goodwood, with the help of good friend and fellow RUclipsr ‪@PocketRockets‬.

Good afternoon guys! Yes, this video is FINALLY here - I bet some of you thought it would never come, didn't you? Without further ado, here is my long awaited twin test video with what was my Mk1 SEAT Leon Cupra R, otherwise known as 'Leona' and my Mk2 SEAT Leon Cupra, otherwise known as 'Leo'. I'm not doing it alone, though, I'm joined by Pocket Rockets who gave his opinion on which is the better car. Which do you prefer? Have you been lucky enough to own both like me? I'd love to hear your thoughts.

This was a great video dude! You know my love for the mk1s but the mk2 is an awesome car, and you're bang on about them both being underappreciated cars. Both brilliant in their own ways, that's for sure

I am going to give my verdict as the owner of a seat león cupra r mk1 225cv and I have to say that for me the mk1 without difference I like it better in its pure and hard driving, not like the modern versions. I'm not saying they are bad, but I have had races with mk2 mk3 and mine, which now has 300 hp, I ate them with potatoes. By the way, my engine is a reinforced BAM engine. The mk1 is aesthetically more aggressive, at the same time elegant.

Yeah I definitely think the Mk1 looks better and has better road presence. Thanks for watching.

I had both cars and my actual car is MK2 leon cupra. Mark1 leon means the quality and mark2 leon means the design. Both cars are designed by italian designers and it defines everything.

I think the MK1 is better looking but the MK2 is the "better" car. Was tempted by the MK1 before I got my MK2.

My heart says mk1 but head days mk2 being a better car

I think if my Mk1 had been in as good condition as my Mk2 it may have changed my views. Thanks for watching 👍🏽.

That's not strictly true what you said about the Leon's gave more performance than the Golf unless you were referring to the gti? Don't forget the r32s and golf r

Something sounds wrong if you're only getting 200 on a rolling road. These engines don't really lose much power with age at all.
If your clutch is heavy it's probably at the end of life. The pedal will be featherlight with a new clutch.

What do you mean by "only getting 200 on a rolling road"? The car had 210hp to begin with and is 20 years, so it's bound to have lost some power and it's only 10hp. Thanks for watching.

The AMK came with 210ps, which is 208 horsepower. New coils, sparks, oil and filters and you should still be getting 207 or 208 no problem, even after 20 years.
I've seen plenty of W and X reg stock Audi TT BAM engines still getting 221 horsepower, which is what they came out of the factory with.

@@2728Alexis I only had the car a short time and within that, the spark plugs weren't replaced, but even so, a loss of 7 or so hp isn't the end of the world.
Also, it could be the dyno, another dyno may get different numbers. For what it's worth, the rolling road (Surrey Rolling Road) did not detect any serious running issues, so I'm not concerned.
