I had just turned 1 when these commercials aired, so I obviously don't remember these, but they create a very certain time and era. The commercials of the 70s and 80s were just more soothing than the commercials you saw in the 90s, or certainly today. It really is amazing how advertising reflects the mood of the time. Even the cartoon commercials peddling sugar cereal to kids don't seem that aggressive.
Man. Say what you will about McDonalds food, but their 70-80s commercials are so endearing. Its shows how McDonalds was part of our lives as a teenager and sometimes that's the place that everything came together.
Wow 😳 I was 8 yrs old then!!! I can't believe it was a commercial for 8 track tape players 😂🤣🤣 and we had some too, just never saw a commercial for the them
It is the late Dana Plato of ("Diff'rent Strokes") along with the late Philip McKeon (Nancy McKeon's brother) of ("Alice") in the Nestle $100,000 Bar ad.
I was 7 years old when these spots aired, so this is the period (as opposed to late 80's/90's) when I can really identify with the "kiddie" commercials. There are some real classics (including some "grown-up" ads) here! 0:00--I love all the Nestle Quik commercials with the bunny and his eternal (and unsuccessful) quest to drink Quik slowly. 0:30--"Follow your nose! It always knows!" I never cared for Froot Loops, but I loved the commercials. 1:00, 5:03, and 12:21--McDonald's has had a lot of great commercials over the years, and here are 3 of them. 2:00--I love the jingle for the $100,000 Bar. It was later rebranded as "100 Grand," so they unfortunately wouldn't be able to revive this jingle in a new commercial. 3:00--Back when the first Star Wars movie was just "Star Wars," and not "Episode IV: A New Hope." 3:30--I love the Cheerios commercials with the animated chalk drawings. 5:33--Yes, Lawrence Welk was on network TV back then. PBS is still airing reruns. 5:46--"Dig 'em!" "Knee-deep!" I love the frog mascot for Sugar Smacks. 6:15--Great jingle for 3 Musketeers--and I agree about the classic logo. 8:40--This classic Fritos jingle is based on an old pop song called "The Aba Daba Honeymoon." 9:50--"They're GRRREAT!" --thanks to Tony the Tiger's "secret formula." 15:39--"Everything you always wanted in a beer--and less." Kind of funny how I seem to remember all the beer commercials from this period, as young as I was.
As for the Bugs Bunny & Friends title card as far as I know NBC never carried a Looney Tunes series on Saturday morning, only CBS & ABC did. That was more than likely a syndicated offering, according to a 1977-1978 Saturday morning schedule I found Thunder was the final show NBC would have every week, then they switched to CBS which had SatAM programming until 1:30-2pm then they switched back to NBC's baseball coverage (what a find that was!)
Actually they did. The following summer NBC premiered The Daffy Duck Show (later The Daffy/Seedy Show) which ran thru '79-'82. Although some classic were shown much of stuff consisted of crummy DFE Daffy/Speedy shorts from the '60s. NBC also showed two Daffy specials during 1980's Easter and Halloween era.
I have an audio cassette recording of this Star Wars tv spot. I assumed the fluctuating quality was because of my tape, but this is the 3rd time (at least) that I've seen this particular spot with the same bad quality audio from 7/22/78. Interesting.
It seems like the EQ was fluctuating, causing a loss of volume and information in the highs, making it sound muffled at times. I assumed it was a problem with the tape, but if your personal audio cassette recording has the same issue then I guess it was a technical glitch going on at the network that day.
I noticed also that the quality of the audio was inconsistent. I wasn't sure if it was a flaw in the tape, or if I was having speaker issues. It doesn't really bother me, though; I'm just tickled to see these classic commercials again!
Froot Loops- "You're a funny looking chicken!" Well, your artist must've fell asleep at the drawing board when they created your design, Mole. Frosted Flakes- With the chemicals and additives they add in cereal over the years, I would think Frosted Flakes would definitely qualify for having a secret formula. Monster Cereals- The free door knocker has got to the cheapest looking one I've ever seen. I would imagine it would make very little knocking noises at all on the door.
This was just before WRTV became an ABC affiliate because that was ABC's peak time. That Fritos bag is so different from nowadays. Crazy Cow seems a bit silly if only because most chocolate cereals will eventually turn the milk chocolate.
If this is from the first day of the ad campaign for the 1978 release, it seemed that at least twice an hour on NBC that day had a character specific Star Wars ad. After the first few, I set up an audio cassette recorder next to the little portable black and white in my bedroom and spent the rest of the day and evening sitting with my finger hovering over the record button.
Nestle Quik-remember when they had the banana fkavor McDonald's-"Umm,listen,the school prom is coming up..." Star Wars-Disney+ series featuring the very character profiled here is coming soon Crazy Cow-one time i mixed both flavors..interesting taste Trix-"It's the RAAA-bbit." Thunder End Credits -the Man From Atlantis must battle those creatures in-the dreaded Sea of The Black Screen @13:06 mark-Gumbel shouldve incorporated a dance break into that report("Now lets take a look at the rest of these scores while i GET DOWN!!!!")
Tried to do some research on what happened to Mark, if I got the right name, Mark Shagena - President - Heritage Commercial Group He was Harvard All-American in swimming
I happen to have just watched "The Toys That Made Us" for the second time (on Blu-ray, in case you wanna know). That _8-part documentary series about the toys that we all know_ included the one with the Transformers, which mentioned "Me-cro-a Man" (as it was sung in Japanese). I remembered seeing the Micronauts back in the day (as well as the Mego brand), but didn't know they were originally from Japan.
It was only produced from 1974-82. It’s perhaps best known in pop culture for appearing in the movie Pulp Fiction, where Eric Stoltz’ character can be seen eating it.
The McDonald’s commercial with the teen crush was AMAZING! What a window into the past that one was!
George Clooney
I was 12 in 1978 and remember these ads. Time flies by.
I was 13 and yes TIME FLIES. I remember these ads.
What a flood of memories, I need a time machine.

Definitely a lot less “X-Treme” or “In Your Face!” Attitudes than the commercials I grew up with as a kid in the 90s / beginning of the 2000s
Love these classic commercials. They're better than the ones today
I remember like yesterday. I was a kid in the 70s. I feel so old at 51 buts bitter sweet
The Three Musketeers commercial with the hot air balloon and the sailboat was spot on!
Man. Say what you will about McDonalds food, but their 70-80s commercials are so endearing. Its shows how McDonalds was part of our lives as a teenager and sometimes that's the place that everything came together.
Nice to see commercials from the 1970s once more. Thank you for sharing this footage!
The McDonald's commercial was surreal. Like it was directed by Brian De Palma. Heck, the second one was even weirder.
Ah, Star Wars...as my dad used to say, "May the farts be with you..."
Wow, I was 5 years old and I am sure watched these on Saturday morning. Thanks so much.😀
That is indeed Dana Plato in the 100,000 dollar bar commercial.
Wow 😳 I was 8 yrs old then!!! I can't believe it was a commercial for 8 track tape players 😂🤣🤣 and we had some too, just never saw a commercial for the them
0:27 , I miss those random little sound effects before the commercials ended, ah miss those days .. 😔
Yes! More 70s goodness! Thanks!
It is the late Dana Plato of ("Diff'rent Strokes") along with the late Philip McKeon (Nancy McKeon's brother) of ("Alice") in the Nestle $100,000 Bar ad.
I thought the boy in that commercial looked like "Tommy"! Kind of sad that Philip is no longer with us; he couldn't have been very old.
Yes, I recognized Dana right away.
I love the 70s
It's been said that Fruit Brute has been replaced by the Fruity Yummy Mummy.
"You're a funny looking chicken." That was amusing :].

The little girl in the Frosted Flakes spot looks like Kim Fields.
Yes it is Kim Fields
Good eye!
Jarrell, yep, little Ms. fields.
It is her
Lot of breakfast cereals on display here, boy that’s a lot of sugar to start the day.

Interesting to see what commercials were on TV when I was just 5 weeks old.

@@80sCommercialVault Totally...and I've found this same airing several times...same audio issue. 😀

03:01 - Ah a rather modest Star Wars trailer!

Who actually had a glass of juice and toast with thier cereal as part of a "nutritious breakfast"?
Nestle Quik-remember when they had the banana fkavor
McDonald's-"Umm,listen,the school prom is coming up..."
Star Wars-Disney+ series featuring the very character profiled here is coming soon
Crazy Cow-one time i mixed both flavors..interesting taste

Sooo... that's where Hillenburg got the idea for a secret formula...
I remember that miller lite commercial from the 1970s.
It sounds like Crazy Cow was really a Crazy Bull.
Maybe it was a good thing that Ronald McDonald appeared at the Marion Summerfest instead of the Burger King eh?
Tried to do some research on what happened to Mark, if I got the right name,
Mark Shagena - President - Heritage Commercial Group

Girls Clubs of America PSA, brought to you by the already-outdated caricature of David Cassidy. lol

It took me most of the entire McDonalds commercial at 1:30ish to realize that was a female.
Never heard of Fruit Brute cereal.
It was only produced from 1974-82. It’s perhaps best known in pop culture for appearing in the movie Pulp Fiction, where Eric Stoltz’ character can be seen eating it.
80sCommercialVault Wow you are good! That's amazing. We were more of a Quake, Quisp & Capt. Crunch house 😆
I don't know what's the problem...but STEVE GARVEY should be in the Baseball HOF. what a Career he had. and I am a LONG time Cubs fan.
Check out Bryant Gumbel’s Afro!
Ha Ha! St. Louis is in last place!
I'm not sure which NBC TV local station this is from!
5:35 12:54
Mc Donald's chick looked like James Hetfeid, Singer / guitar player from Metallica .
Some of these are much later. The creepy-looking Burger King came after the cartoon Burger King from the 70s.
These aired exactly when I said they did in the description.
I thought Ronald McDonald was the devil. I would scream sometimes if I saw him as a kid. Who knows why?
Possibly cause he is, major reason for obesity and leading heart attacks in America
