    That Avis commercial...Rent cars with us, and we'll send strange men sneaking into your room in the middle of the night to tell you about your car while you're groggy and sleep-deprived, and you'll likely forget what we told you the night before anyway! Great sales pitch.

    Firestone Town And Country Snow Biters Tires- For a simple commercial, it sure has some impressive animation, especially with the tires appearing out of the man's bed. The animation reminds me of some animated specials such as "B.C. The First Thanksgiving".

    Firestone - "Pleasant Dreams" yeah thanks after seeing those scary tires!
    There's Michael Vale in the Avis ad! So Avis was telling him it's time to check the rental car as he makes the donuts!
    Plus the neat Coleco Combat Telstar as the Atari VCS was making it's holiday debut that year!
    I also want to see the refridgerator race!

    Wow; looks like we're watching the 1977 edition of the "Snow Bowl"!
    0:09 and 4:47--"Everything you've always wanted in a beer--and less." That was an iconic slogan back in the day. I remember it very well despite being 15 years too young to legally drink the stuff in 1977.
    1:18, 11:07, and 17:33--Our family car back then was a Ford Fairmont, purchased new in the fall of 1977. I believe this was the first year for that model. Ours wasn't a Futura.
    3:26--I had a couple friends my age (I was 6 years old when these spots aired) who liked The Incredible Hulk, but my parents wouldn't let me watch it because it was "too scary."
    4:07 and 13:09--That technology looks so primitive by today's standards! Kind of sad to see Radio Shack going the way of the passenger pigeon. The Telstar Combat game is not unlike the Atari 2600 version of "Combat." Before getting our Atari 2600, we had one of those early Pong games--and I think ours was the Radio Shack brand.
    5:47--When I purchased my first (used) car in 1990 (I couldn't--and still can't--afford a new one), my parents warned me to avoid the Pinto.
    10:12--"All In The Family" was, and is, a great show! As of 2021 it is rerunning on Get TV, which is available over the air in many parts of the country.

    The Return Of The Incredible Hulk-that promo made it look as if it were a horror movie
    Freeman Free-Flex Shoe-spoiler: that was a hard-boiled egg
    Radio Shack -"Breaker breaker,anyone got their ears on..? Im having car trouble.."
    Three Days Of The Condor-"..and i'm NOT the killer!"
    Lowenbrau-that must be their usual order
    All In The Family-a very good episode,loved the ending
    CBS Sports Spectacular-the refrigerator race..get a chiropractor on standby
    Eveready Batteries-no one was brave enough to knock the battery off his shoulder..
    NFL on CBS -that final score..ouch

    They'd have been royally screwed if there was an early thaw while they were filming that Sears DieHard commercial...
    "What the hell happened to the car?"
    "I dunno, it was here in January...Oh shit, the lake thawed!"
    "I sure as hell hope they bought the insurance package when they rented it."

    • @80sCommercialVault
      @80sCommercialVault  2 года назад

      It's a classical piece dating to 1896: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Also_sprach_Zarathustra
      Besides being used in "2001: A Space Odyssey" it was famously used as intro music for Elvis Presley at his concerts for years: ruclips.net/video/TM5lPTLwTpI/видео.html predating any use in professional wrestling.

      I linked the wikipedia article for Also Sprach Zarathustra. I'm aware of its original title.
      Most people associate it with 2001, where it is used as a central theme and often riffed on in pop culture.

    Futura. Typical name that came in boardroom meeting at Ford in 1076. “ we’re building low tech boring cars this decade, let’s give them something to make them think they have futuristic space age technology”

    • @80sCommercialVault
      @80sCommercialVault  3 года назад +8

      Um, the Futura name came from the Lincoln Futura concept car: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lincoln_Futura
      This was famously the basis for the 1960s Batmobile.

    Bell system should have stayed Bell system.
    Judge was an idiot in that case.
    Now we have AT&T for home phone service and they are a monopoly.
    Their customer service is horrible.
    Bell system was great.
    I had South Central Bell and I miss it.

    • @80sCommercialVault
      @80sCommercialVault  3 года назад +3

      The Bell System *was* a monopoly. That’s why it was broken up.
      en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Breakup_of_the_Bell_System
      And AT&T was the one who proposed the breakup as an alternative to giving up their subsidiary company Western Electric, who produced their telephone equipment.

    • @ellemjay
      @ellemjay 3 года назад +2

      Hey, now you can *own* your phone outright instead of Bell giving it to you for safekeeping! 😉
