This video is now 8 years old and I just used it to make my first cage liner!! I’m new to sewing, and Guinea pigs, so your videos have been fantastic. Thank you❤
I've never used a sewing machine but after watching this video I was inspired to make cage liners and pads for the cage and I just made a pad and a cage liner my first time sewing and it didn't turn out that bad thx so much for the inspiration
you are so insperational u made me relize that my guinea pigs need a little bit more space and im gonna try to make a cage that looks alot like yours this summer im really exited
Just wanted to say thank you for showing how you sewed the two bits of fleece together! I'm going to be making my first ever fleece liner soon, but the fleece I've ordered doesn't come in pieces big enough so I'll have to stitch two pieces together. I was worried about how I was going to do that, but this video will definitely come in handy! I don't have a sewing machine sadly, so I'll be doing it all by hand - wish me luck 😅
I still use these fleece liners in 2021! More (and better!) tutorials: How to Make Waterproof Fleece Pads for the Cage: ruclips.net/video/nZTFkkdtavc/видео.html How to Make Your Own Guinea Pig Cuddle Cup Beds: ruclips.net/video/IJRU4c4rpUA/видео.html
Do your piggies burrow underneath these? I have fleece liners I made that goes up the sides and clipped down over the edge. I tried towels underneath, but I went back to using paper bedding and kitchen roll, which seems to be more absorbent. But messy! I think the pads might be easier, but my husband thinks they would burrow around the edges... As I am the cleaner of the cage, I'm thinking your pads might be easier!
I made this liner for my guinea pig’s cage today and it turned out soooooo good!!! It took me a while to get everything lined up but the finished product looks really good, I’m so excited to put it in their cage tomorrow!! I’m definitely making some of the pads tomorrow
After making snuggle sacks from the pattern I brought from you, I noticed you have a tutorial on how to make pee pads as well as cage liners. Yay!! My next project I will be making cage liners for my 2 x 6 c & c cage. Thank you for your tutorials you have inspired me to make them!
loved this video and fleece liner instructions were very easy to follow. Thanks for your helpful tips I've made lots of liners now for my 14 rescued piggies Thank you x
Made 2 cage liners and 4 smaller pads. I used anti-pill fleece that was on sale; with a coupon it cost $3.00 a yard (usually sells for $10.99). For the absorbent middle I used adult bed pads (already had them). I found your video as a result of an internet search for cage liners. A link popped up for ready made and nearly died to see the cheapest was $35. Even if I didn't have a sewing machine, I'd use a running stitch to sandwich and hold it together in order to save that kind of money. I can see that this will be healthier and more comfortable for my girls and thank you very much for the video and saving me a boat load of money.
Do you sell these? I know it's none of my business but I really think that you could make a lot of money off of making these and selling these. They look really easy to do but for people like me with next to no spare time, or skill with a sewing machine, you should definitely consider selling these:) P.S. Is Lyra starting to come out of her shell a little bit?
Thanks, I've made my 1st liner for my Daughters Guinea Pig today, purchased everything from B&M worked out around £30 for at least 2 sets, can't wait until my daughter gets home from work and tries it for size xxx
You made a great tutorial. I never thought of using fitted bed liners. The waterproof lining would help eliminate the cost of the disposable bed pads. Thank you for sharing!
Looks great! This is the Same method I use except I use fleece on both sides and I don't have a sewing machine so I have to do it all y hand even though it takes about 3 or 4 hours it's totally worth it because liners look great and are easy to use
I've just made my liners and pads for my daughters piggy cage. I would never have thought to do it without your brilliant videos! Thank you so much! Xx
Sarah I love your videos! It's been a long couple months but j finally convinced my parents to let me get some. I was just going to get a pet store cage but I now have a c&c cage. Watching your videos I know how to care for the piggies now so thank you! You pigs are adorable!!! :)
I love when I hear someone say bits and bobs! thank you for your tutorial. I have to get a sewing machine but plan on making liners as soon as I do. I'm tired of using just towels.
Great video Sarah! I use Uhaul in mine and have noticed such a difference even from using fleece and towels! It is super absorbent and also great at keeping odours at a minimum!
Sheywh12 I have heard that 2 is a lot better for cushioning bunnies feet and helps bunnies with sore hocks but you can use 1 if you wish, it'll just be a bit less absorbant
Thank you, this was a very helpful tutorial. I now feel more confident in making these for my fur babies. I am going to start with their loft first and then hopefully progress onto the main stage :)
Since I'm one of the worlds' worst at sewing, I'll have to ask my girlfriend to watch this video and hope I can convince her to make one for my piggies.
So he did go wife making anything for the piggies yet LOL...I got a sewing ma June health and all gonna give it a try got my continence pads all cut to the size of the kitchenette!!
I have never used a sewing machine but I have bought some cloth and I am going to try to make my own cage liners, sleep sacks and maybe tunnels and pads for my hedgehogs c&c cage!
I tried doing this last night! Just twoclayers though. Wasn't the best... But a good try for my first time! Hopefully the second time will end up better :) thanks for the video!
Thank you for your video. I'm seriously considering making some of these to stop bits of sawdust getting in my piggy's bits! I love that all these materials are ones I might already have in.
Wonderful video, ive wanted to give it a go at making my own liners. But finding a video that shows you how isnt so easy, so im thrilled you made this video. Thank you!
Definitely going to try this out! We are really enjoying your videos and are getting our piggies in April! So your channel is so helpful for getting us prepared :-)
Very helpful, thank you! We just added a bunny to our family and I'm pretty crafty, so I was looking for a way to save money on washable cage pads! Your idea for mattress liners was fabulous and just what I needed. I can't wait to make some this weekend!
Fantastic, thanks for the detailed video and instructions. As I had them only for a few weeks, I haven't made anything special, just use pieces of painters fleece, the waterproof one. The only problem is that my piggies are getting under them, using them as covers :)) They are still messing up the plastic cage underneath. Also painters fleece can be washed only a couple of times before it gets unglued from is backing.
Great video anywhere that sells secondhand clothing and baby stuff often also sell baby cot quilts that hang around the cot often with pictures on ,make good paded hide away tubes and beds .also you find fleece fabric in these places to give them a good wash on a 40 .car boots and buying a cheep thin single quilt is handy for inside padding .I'm Lucky I make clothing for a living my piggies love new things.🙋 great show.
Thanks so much for this! I live in Ireland which means I could get pretty much the same material for cheap as well. Not much of I seamstress, don't have a sewing machine either so had to sew by hand, but I managed to put something together for our piggies that'll hopefully do the job.
Found your videos over the weekend as we adopted two females. My dusted sewing machine is out and few pee pads already done. The fabric for the cage liner is ready and I just need pins to assembly (started without them but impossible with such a big fabric (140x200)... maybe I should have done two liners ? Cage is huge

If anyone is watching this in 2017, B&M have the fleeces and matress protectors used in this video still. I managed to get 4 fleeces, a double bed matress protector and a bale of 4 towels for £30!
Thanks for a very well explained video and definitely not too much detail!! Im awaiting my fleece video and its always useful to see what layers are used. The layers you use look quite thin so Im going to try your way as my machine isnt that good!!!!
Awh thank you I'm glad it helped! Yes I went for quite thin layers, partly to save my machine too, it's surprising how heavy/absorbent liners can be! Good luck for your liners! :D
Could you use an old duvet for the middle layer. I’m just in the process of making liners and beds, my cage is on its way but have no piggies to go in it yet! Thank you for the videos, they are extremely helpful x

After I saw this video I have bought my sewing machine :)
Congrats! Sewing machines are great! 😃
Do you need a heavy duty one? I was going to buy a budget brother machine but worried it won’t handle the thickness - any advice? ❤
I now understand why people charge the prices they do for these lol!
I use washable pee pads 50x60 for my cage, anti pill fleece from Walmart. Use kids old fleece blankets for places they pee and poop at.
I just got two piggies and was looking everywhere for how to make your own liners, thanks so much for this video! It's so helpful x

Omg the tiny guinea wowwwww so precious
i use a plastic shower liner on the bottom of cage then a towel to absorb, then a decorative soft fleece on top
sky montey ooo a plastic shower liner! How smart and cheap! How's it been working out for you? Did you see it or just lay it
How fast does it get stinky?
Will the shower liner melt in the washing machine
little Magnificent you don’t wash it. Just rinse it with a hose or water it’s like plastic don’t wash it it will shrink and get deformed
Are Sol will that be enough to clean it tho
My machine wont go through three layers ... Great vid. Very clear explanation.
