💙 Who are we?
We are Ben and MP!
Recently we decided to purchase a two-masted wooden schooner in Brazil. The fun detail about our story is that the boat we bought was sinking and relying on many bilge pumps to survive so we had to lift it onto the dry to start a full refit. Once the boat was lifted (for the first time in her life) we realized that the work needed was much more than expected. Between bailing or accepting the challenge, we decided to go for the second option. Watch us as we bring Yabá back to life with the help of an amazing team of traditional shipwrights, sharing every phase of the process, overcoming the highs and lows and having fun along the way.

All those in favour of Yaba getting a new tender give thumbs up
Can’t believe a company hasn’t reached out!!
@@chadmutchler5062 Do you know the cost of one?
they dont grow on trees. 👍👍
Thats a good few grand
@@karibakid The cost varies greatly, depending on the options, center console, hard bottom, etc., but they can get into the tens of thousands.
I don't know how it would all work but this sounds like a "Go Fund Me" situation. I know there are enough of us out here that would be willing to raise money for Ben and MP!!!
Put a safety chain on the outboard motor that is bolted to the boat. In this manner, even if the motor slips off its mounting, it will not be lost. Good luck!
3:40 Used the next hammer in the same way you broke the first one. Belly laugh! 😂
Yes, I noticed the yard workers hammering with the side of the hammer, which is something I was always taught not to do.
I am sooooo impressed with you 2. Not trowing anything in the water while reparing the dingy. I wish more people had that attitude. But please buy a new dingy it has died a long time ago and needs rest. Lots of love from Belgium
Whoops forgot the safety chain on the outboard a vital addition, Mp you look absolutely stunning in your dive suit
This is when the ol' handy Magnet on a stick helps. Useful for finding dropped Ferrous tools in muddy shallows.
It's a bit of random kit that you'll never remember to take, but never regret not taking.
What? Erm, they weren’t in shallow water.
In sailing terms, If you can dive to the bottom you're in the shallows lol
Well you tried to find it….. I like the way you two got on the boat by doing that reverse back flip Pretty neat ! MP…. You are looking beautiful. It does me good to see that pretty face. Good luck guys getting a replacement for the outboard and thanks for everything you do and sharing your world with us ❤
when you replace the D ring on the dinghy put a large plate on the inside to spread the load.
Considering that the dingy is a meant to keep you safe if you need to vacate the boat, perhaps you should consider getting a new dingy. Also, make sure you have a space on the boat for the dingy. They're not meant to be drag behind the boat. 😊
That boat is huge
Caiou is such an amazing dog. I love to see how much she enjoys boat life.
G'day Crew,
Don't give up on the outboard yet ,it's just there not far away .You just need a day of clear visibility, and you will find it .
Still , as a consolation prize
now you have a cool unique BBQ stand for YABA.
Respect....!
As they say. "To the winner goes the spoils." Always remember the dream, and you two a now without doubt living the dream. Thanks for the new adventure that awaits us all. Congratulations are in order. The chair was a fair trade.
SORRY ABOUT YOUR LOSS...WELCOME TO SAILING!
WITHOUT THE MISTAKES WE MAKE WE WOULD NEVER LEARN TO...
LOVE THE JOURNEY!
Just thinking about doing what you two do I get anxiety.
One of the hardest things about achieving a dream is doing it…Now what? Live it!!!
when life gives you lemons, make lemonade. 😊✊🏻🏴
Maybe add a safety cable on your next motor. That would keep the motor close to the dinghy no matter what or why something happens ! The quicker you can retrieve a sunken motor the better to get running again or less damage it will have .
Loosing equipment when already living on strings is hard especially as important as what you lost at sea, you showed us your best side despite the gravity of you loss, love you two, you are an inspiration ❤ 💖
Thank you so much 💖
Fun episode despite losing the engine
Glad you think so!! This was the typical "making a lemonade out of lemons" situation because losing the engine felt like a hard punch on our stomachs but we ended up enjoying the search and having fun when diving!
Spectacular episode diving in the murky waters of Brazil!
Love watching you guys!!!

You got this, : )
Motors symbolize movement, chairs symbolize being stationary or sitting still if you will... I think the sea is sending you a message to "slow your roll," I recommend not going to sea until you've permanently repurposed that chair, I think making it to a captains chair is the perfect expression of respect to the sea, that although you steer the ship, the Sea is the foundation with which your home is founded and this chair is a constant reminder to the Captains, of that fact, to never forget to error on the side of safety! Love your show and mad respect to the life you choose to live, all my blessings and best wishes go with you and your crew!✌️🫶☯️😁⚕️💲🌠
So nice to see you finally make it to water ❤❤❤
Greetings MP & Ben from Ireland, at first I thought it was Ireland with that rain, but ye had heat so knew it wasn't. Every day is a challenge and keeps ye young. Stay safe
We had so much rain lately! Ben kept asking me where the tropical country he signed for is! 😅
I always use a lightweight chain, like a dog tether chain to attach the outboard motor to the boat.
You're so right! We had it locked with a padlock, but not with a chain or rope ☹️ Lesson learned now!
My grandfather, who was a very experienced fisherman, had the same mishap in the 80's. Plopp, and gone on 40m depth. Since that, the next motor was always secured to the boat by a proper rope.
What a beautiful boat Yaba is. And, I like your beat up dinghy. Sort of a before and after. A reminder of early Yaba.
As for all the advice, Like they never made a mistake. Keep looking.
The two of you are very entertaining.
I agree about the dinghy. It looks like it’s taken a beating and can take a lot more.
I really thought you were gonna find it. Still I think the sea traded you one thing for another. Another Great video.
New oars, ohhh... the irony, bless you guys, if you can build that boat by tearing it down and putting it back again you can do anything 💪
Wow beautiful little adventure unfortunately you win and lose some, still never a boring moment and a beautiful story told best wishes Yaba-Daba-Do. 😊❤🎉
I’m just happy to see you guys dive! 😂🥰😎
(LOVE your chair!) ❤️❤️❤️
Hi again,I am sorry that you did not find your engine(a big task)but I am happy that you kept your sense of humour while still filming.
If you weren’t super fit now after all the diving and breathing control you should be now.I hope that you are soon able to make good your loss👏👏👍.All the best Roly🇬🇧.
Thanks Roland! We were upset about the engine but we did have fun looking for it!
Yaba is a beautiful boat. It's time to look at a new baby Yaba.
As in a new dinghy?
@SailingYaba yes!! I'll bet your followers would happily contribute to a fund to get you a new one. It's a sorry old dingy to have with a beautiful restored boat.
Sorry for your loss but i always appreciate your positive attitude and drive to keep moving forward even if it's just one step at a time. Cheers!
You should have asked that TURTLE , looks like he came to tell you guys something .
😄 😂 🤣 😁
Right?? As Caillou is now "chasing them" we think the turtles might have kept our engine, just in case they need to run away 😂
😂🤣😂@@SailingYaba
You have probably gotten lots of suggestions about losing your motor. But I’ll relay my experience. I was in a small hydroplane with an 18 hp motor on it and I hit an old submerged piling and it knocked the motor off the transom. Luckily I had a motor chain attached to it and although it got wet, it stayed with the boat. I paddled in, took the motor home and drained the water out of the carburetor and took the plugs out and gave it a bath in pre-mixed gas and oil on the inside. I drained it all out, put the plugs in and it started right up!
A super magnet on a rope might have come in handy. Love your show guys. Thank you!
Aluminum magnet?
Great episode. It's going to be fun to watch you guys "learn your lessons" at sea. Top rate reality. ⛵
Glad you enjoyed it! Living and learning... and sharing it all!
Very cool to see your boat being a boat!
Thanks for the update. I look forward to them. You're living my dream.
It's like every dive in lake Ontario I've done 🤿
Nice to see that you enjoy your "new" life! Great to see, thx
Brilliant episode!! Well done❤. Love your sense of humour❤❤❤ and those marvelous pups......😂
So wonderful, enjoy all the blessings life has to offer ❤
I hope the gods bring many opportunities for you guys to get a new dinghy with a really cool engine.
great video, thank you for sharing.
Love it! Very entertaining ❤
I love your new BBQ stand!
Golden rule:Always attach your boat dinghy engine to the transom with a chain. We learned this when i was doing my Rhodesian Boat Sqn training. We nearly lost our engine on our Zodiac on Lake Kariba.Sorry you guys lost your engine, pity you couldn't find it.
LOL! You guys have such great attitudes.
This time we had to shake off some upsetting vibes, but we managed to have fun after all!
When I was a kid we were carving it up with a jon boat and a 9.5 HP Evinrude and the motor came loose and lifted off the transom as we took a turn. Luckily my brother was able to hold on to the tiller and we got it back aboard. We kept a safety line on it after that!
Y'all should think about sand blasting the chair. It would be cool and a great talking point. When you have guests over. Just a thought.
Very enjoyable.
You two are awesome
Lindo esse capitulo parabens
Sorry to hear about your motor. Thanks for taking us along.
New dingy built to be towed and hoisted would be great when you can do it. And a setup to hoist and mount the outboard!
You guys are great. Just like learning to scuba dive you need extensive courses, same for sailing and living aboard. I’d there a sailing school like the British Yachtmaster course available near you? And sailing and racing on other peoples boats is also helpful. All the best. Big fan! Tom
Oh well. Engines are easily replaced. It's all part of the adventures!!!
If you used bondo on the dingy, I hope you sealed it, because bondo will absorb water and eventually fall off.
Thank you for my Sunday morning coffee with Yaba!!! ❤❤
Easily replaced, if you have money.
Love the adventures
Always look on the brite side of life (+whistling). You guys stay so positieve.💪
Just love your story telling. And your positive attitude of course.🤣
Thank you! 🤩
Hi Ben and MP, loving the episode so far, from South Africa.
Hi Gary! This makes us so happy! Thank you!
This was a really fun video. My Rescue class was in zero vis and trying to find an "incapacitated" diver was no fun at all so I feel your frustration searching for your motor. Wish you'd found it but the resulting video left me with a smile on my face.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you!
That's why I ALWAYS had a rope tieing the Outboard engine to the dinghy. This way, even if the OB Engine gets lose from the support, it can still be easily retrived, even if flooded.
I learned three days into my first cruise, never leave the dinghy in the water at night.
My new dinghy and new motor were stolen and never recovered.
Other friends had their dinghy break loose at night and never recovered.
Salt and Tar had their dinghy and motor stolen too.
The simple answer is to make a rope bridal to be able to hook the dinghy in three places and lift out of the water with a halyard. Leave it over the side at deck level, ready to lower at a moment notice but safe and secure.
Look at you two living on and in the sea. Great video 2x👍
Time for a new Dingy and to paint the Mast!
Very cool!
Thanks Don!
Despite of losing the engine... verry nice episode... ...STAY AWESOME !!!!
greeetsz from friesland ...max...😊💛💙
What an episode,,, sorry about the outboard for sure,,, you are becoming great story tellers .. ❤ much love to you as always,, can’t wait for next week,,
Glad you enjoyed it, thank you so much!
Keep being awesome.
Thanks, you too!
It is so exciting each week to see the profile of the boat. It is so gorgeous! I've been with you since you first bought Yaba, and i never miss a week. The amazing dedication you have to reach your dream is inspiring. I've dreamed about sailing most of my life, but living in Colorado, USA, is a long way from the ocean. You two are amazing. 😊😊😊
Thank you so much!
LOVE YOUR VIDEOS !! ALSO YOUR FUR BABIES ARE SO CUTE !!
THAT WAS A BLESSING! i mentioned u guys needed a 4 stroke motor for the dingy, in a previous episode! that 2 stroke motor was trash, it's scrap metal! 4 stroke is the only way to go
You guys Kick ass!!!
That bcd MP has is exact same I had 20 years ago when I started diving! Good quality if it lasts this long :)
Great episode!
Glad you think so, thank you! 💘
Thanks for another great vlog as it’s 11.30pm here in Victoria Australia 🇦🇺 as I look forward to your vlogs every Sunday night and I have never tried capsicum with a cooked egg I will have to try it stay safe and happy boating cheers Barry 🇦🇺
Thank you so much for watching Barry! We highly recommend the capsicum with the egg made on the BBQ! You can add salt, pepper, or even cheese as a topping and it's very tasty! Just the capsicum alone on the BBQ is already worth it, or with some pesto on top... yum!
My motor almost twisted off the boat when I applied power. Didn't lose the motor, but it taught me an important lesson. Always cable the motor to the boat. 🙂
Great episode and that fish looked absolutely wonderful. A couple of beers next to it and you’ll have food sponsors willing to pay for your new tender motor, or more than enough cash to mount a full scale retrieval. Don’t fish radar or depth sounders give you a vague profile of the bottom? Nice to see you two settling into life at sea.
The surprise transition to go under the flipped dingy was cool. Didn’t see that coming.
This is an old guy talking so feel free to disregard but ... in the old days, (in Sea Scouts here in the US) we used to attach a cable, chain, or rope lanyard from the motor to the transom. We always had an eye bolt through the transom and the lanyard had a snap. Some people would use a padlock. It was specifically if the motor came off the transom (either lowering it onto the transom or losing the whole motor while it was operating.
I also noticed that Mads of Sail Life doesn't have anything to keep the motor from coming loose or being stolen off the small boat. Just a thought.
Here's an idea: Don't Put Holes in your Dingy!!!
However you do need a towing bridle for it, Suggestion: create one above the waterline, perhaps from the bow locker.
I was positively giddy watching MP preparing for the dive. Then I saw the head-cap: dear me! It's really fun seeing you 2 so happy and diving.
Especially seeing MP as the diving instructor. The chair? - Maybe they have an artifacts museum?
Cheers from Vancouver, Canada
Hai sodaraku saya sangat senang menonton video yang Anda bagikan,, ada suasana suka cita berlayar❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉
Another great video!!!😊🎉❤
Thank you Chandra! You're the best!
Em fim vi vocês mergulhar! Daí sim heinnnn! GO YABÁ!!⛵️🐕🐕🥰💙
uhuuuu
Bom dia MP @Ben tenham um ótimo dia e excelente semana vídeo da hora gostei momentos agradáveis
If you notice, there are holes in the bottom of an outboard motor clamp so the clamp can be through bolted to the transom, also the motor should have a safety chain, or cable. You ignored doing either of these things, and lost an expensive piece of equipment. I suggest you wise up before going offshore before someone has to risk their life getting your bacon out of the fire.
Thanks
Perderam o motor de popa.Mas agora moram no mar e acontece.Gostei da alegria de vocês no botinho.Bom fim de semana⚓⛵⚓⛵🐶🐶
Bedankt
You can use your boom to haul up your dinghy on top of the deck. Make a dinghy davit for on deck so you can tie it down.
Losing an engine is pretty bad, but at least you gave it a good try to recover it. I lost one from a boat I made when I was 12. I had taken a cruise around Coronado Island from Imperial Beach in Southern California. As I was returning a large swell caught me and it took my engine with it, transom and all. Of course when I returned home and told my dad about it he gave me a hard time about losing it. He went out into our workshop and returned with a well made braided leash that to attach to the engine to prevent it from happening again. It was nice, but I didn’t have another engine nor did have a boat to hook it up to. That’s life.
I love seeing the diving added. As a Divemaster myself, I can't wait to dive my own 30-foot Luger Voyager Adventurer!
Diving wrecks; your compass will always point towards metal! Perhaps you can locate the motor this way. Otherwise, search patterns.
Great safety warning. I see too many sailors using gear they aren't certified on.
All the best!

Good dive practice
Indeed!
Always tie the engine to the transom. Always.
I learned it hard way losing an outboard last day of sailing season...
12:00 not random. You are loved
Why not secure both ends of the dinghy to the back of the boat and keep your tools on the back boat ramp where they will be more stable and so will the dinghy !
Mp you better watch finding treasure especially if Ben is standing close hahaha very funny, Ben you better get a cup, if you know what I mean. That Mp is an animal 😳. Be safe you two. All in all it was a fun episode. Stay healthy enjoy your week 😊
Saw on another channel using an allen key to dig out the holes. Just put in in the chuck of the drill and off you go!
😢whats wy you tethering the engine to the tender. Lesson learned. Thanks for sharing, and have a fantastic week ahead
The engine was locked with a padlock and we thought that was enough 😢 Now we will always have a chain or a rope at least. Lesson learned indeed!
